To figure out how many points you are allowed each day answer these questions and add your score:
1. Gender:
Female- score 2
Male- score 8
A nursing mom- score 12
2. How old are you?
17-26- score 4
27-37- score 3
38-47- score 2
48-58- score 1
over 58- score 0
3. What do you weigh?
Enter the first two digits of your weight in pounds.
(for example, if you weight 199, you will add 19 to your score)
4. How tall are you?
Under 5’1- score 0
5’1-5’10- score 1
Over 5’10- score 2
5. How do you spend most of your day?
Sitting down? score 0
Occasionally sitting? score 2
Walking most of the time? score 4
Doing physically hard work most of the time? score 6
Now add them all together and that’s your daily total.
You are allowed an additional 35 points per week, if you wish to use them. You must use all your points each day in order to lose weight.

I did WW a few years ago and lost 50 lbs. I ran low on time and money and started to slack on my eating habits and lifestyle and gained it all back and then some. I've been wanting to get back on WW and couldn't afford it and I found your website that can help get me started back up on my own. Thank you for publishing this for those of us who want help but can't afford it. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteI lost 30 lbs on WW last year, now I'm trying to keep it off. No need to enrol in the program anymore but love this site to help me keep away the lbs!
ReplyDeleteHi Gina,
ReplyDeleteI too just stumbled on to your site, so far LOVING IT!!!
Thanks, BW
how do you maintain the weight once it is lost with Weight Watchers
ReplyDeleteI stumbled on to your site by trying to find how to count ww points for crab legs. I just love it. Thanks so much for the valuable information that you are sharing with us. I have saved this site under 'my favorite' on my computer. I am planning to visit you often.

Wow, great site. I love all the recipes and the fact that you have pictures for each of the foods. Very visually appealing as well. Great job.

ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm a SAHM and can't afford to go back on ww right now.
I just found this site three days ago, and I've already tried four recipes - they were DELICIOUS, fast and easy.
Thanks so much for sharing and keep up the great work!
Thank you for this. I have a number of WW recipes from a friend (old recipes when she was doing WW) as well as a number of "newer" ones from cookbooks and magazines, but never knew how to calculate how many points I could have a day. Now I know so I can try this and see if it ends up being easier for me. I have been doing NS which is great and helped me lose 35 lbs, but I'm so bored with the food - I'm going to try this and see if it gets me back in the losing mode.

ReplyDeleteGina,
ReplyDeleteI stumbled on your site while looking for a WW bran muffin receipe that uses bran cereal. Didn't find the receipe but did find your site. Thanks for doind this it helps those of us that can't afford to join WW. Your baby is beautiful!
Just wanted to let you know that I love your blog! I just found it a few weeks ago and am loving having some new recipes to cook! My biggest complaint about weight watchers has always been that I hate eating different things at mealtime than what I cook my family! It is great to have some meals that are low in points that we can all enjoy together! Congratulations on your baby! I just had a little boy Nov. 20th. One question, do you really use all 10 extra points for nursing? And if so, do you feel like you still lose weight? It feels like so many extra points, I am always nervous to use all of them!
ReplyDeletehi, i am from the netherlands and we use the new pro-points since november 2009. Do yu use the new pro-points also and how are you doing ? Will this site will be avaiable with this new pro-points or not ? It is very nice and always can find a nice meal with minimal points Regards, Barry (lost 44,5 kg in 9 months with weight watchers.)
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm not familiar with pro-points. How does it work?
ReplyDeleteGina, I just started WW with a group from work. I LOVE your site!!! Please keep your great recipes coming! I feel inspired everytime I log on. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteHi Gina - LOVE your website - I have printed off a number of the recipes however was curious as to whether there is a "Recipe Box" on the site that one could save recipes in for anyone including myself who is trying to use less paper - thanks Karen
ReplyDeleteNo but you can always bookmark them which uses no paper. Would love to have a feature like that though!
ReplyDelete@Gina
ReplyDeleteI'm from the Netherlands also and just started with the new Pro Points. It's just a new way to calculate points. After Flexi points, Comfort points we now have... Pro Points! I do not know the formula, but you take protein, carbs, fat and fiber to calculate the amount of points. Where I used to have 20 points a day (in your current system) now I have 29 points a day plus a 39 points a week as a piggy bank. Left over points cannot be taken to the next day.
Thanks for sharing, I'm not familiar with that.
ReplyDeleteI love your site, I am such a foodie
ReplyDeletethought I'd share a recipe for Quick Chicken Gumbo
1 spray cooking spray
1 package frozen gumbo style vegetables (16 oz)
29 oz canned diced tomatoes, with mild chiles
@ 3 cups cubed chicken breast
1 tbsp flour
1 tsp Creole seasoning
Coat large skillet with spray. Add vegetables and saute over high heat, stirring frequently for 2 min. stir in flour and cook for another 1 min.
Stir in tomatoes, chicken and Creole seasoning. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until hot, @6 min. Yields about 1 1/2 cups per serving WW points 4
Thanks for sharing fellow foodie!! SOunds good!!
ReplyDeleteThank you soo much for this site.xx
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your site. I had a baby 2 months ago and have been struggling with my weight gain. I've never had this much to lose before and was considering ww. Now that I see that there as so many yummy options I'm definiely giving it a try. Im also curious about the nursing mother points. 10 extra seems like a lot. Do you really use all of them? Thanks so much!!
ReplyDeleteIf you are nursing, you really should so your milk supply doesn't diminish. If you are eating healthy food, you need not worry, they weight will still come off! You burn a LOT of calories breastfeeding!
ReplyDeleteAs an RN, I would not advise any nursing mother to be on a "diet"............
ReplyDeleteshe needs an extra 500 cal/day (2500 cal total) and needs to drink 3 qts of water/day.
The nursing mother needs to drink fluid to make enough fluid for the baby.
Nurse Grace
@Nurse Grace, I agree, I don't advice anyone who is nursing or pregnant to diet. However WW does have a formula for nursing mothers. I personally didn't start dieting until after I stopped nursing.
ReplyDeleteHi Gina!
ReplyDeleteThe nursing mom who is supplementing with formula or solids (according to the 2010 formula) should get 5 points. Otherwise, she gains weight! :) hehe! I learned this the hard way and the asked my consultant and she found it in the books for me! Whew, I kept wondering why the scale was creeping up!
Nursing Mommy to a beautiful bouncy baby girl
Thanks for sharing!! Enjoy that baby!!
ReplyDeleteGina, Have you got a good bran muffin recipe?
ReplyDelete@Pat- No, but I'll work on that soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Gina, this is a great site. I love yummy food, but don't enjoy cooking. I find that most recipe sites are filled with recipes containing ingredients that I don't have and often that I don't even have access to. Your recipes are so simple! So far this week I have made the corn salsa with lime, the avocado mango salsa, and the zucchini turkey burgers (which my 7-year-old vegetable-phobic son gobbled down without a clue). I have a thick folder of recipes that I've printed out and look forward to cooking more! Great job on this site and with your food creations. Really!!! I'm just lovin' it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna! I'm glad you are enjoying them, come back and comment on the ones you try!
ReplyDeleteWhen are you going to come out with a cookbook? It would be awesome to have all of these great recipes you've shared together in one place!
ReplyDeletepro point system is coming to the United States I think and how will we cope with this wonderful site in the other system. Will you be converting??? I hope so since I love your site so much
ReplyDeleteNo, I dont have a cookbook. Perhaps someday!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I'm not really sure. What happens to all those cookbooks out there that people have purchased through WW, will they too be obsolete? I guess when I know more about it, I can decide. Do you know what is different about it?
If anyone has or can get more info. on the Pro Point system I would so appreciate it. Or it you can point me in the right direction to get addtional info. I would appreciate that also. I try to eat protein with each meal - but I don't eat meat so it can be a little challenging at times. Therefore, any additional info. would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have more info on the ProPoint system soon, anonymous. It's the new plan they are unveiling here in the US in December.
ReplyDeleteThis By Far is the BEST W.W. Point Recipe Site I have ever been on. Used to do weight watchers years ago and lost 60lbs. Now that I've had a back injury and knee problems working out is very hard so I have to rely on following Points to Loose weight and you have made it So Easy with all the Great Recipes and showing Photos of what the food will (hopefully) Look like!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! - HOLLY :)
ReplyDeleteDo you know why i LOVE your site so much? You are usually REAL food and REAL ingredients. There's not much artificial junk. When I did WW years ago, it was focused on all the fat free stuff and I refused to eat that! Thank you so much for all your thought and preparation that goes into this site and your recipes!
ReplyDeleteoops...meant to say "using" instead of usually!!!;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for appreciating all the work that goes into it and I'm so happy you all like it here!
ReplyDeleteDo you like Pro points way better? do you find yourself losing more weight than before?
ReplyDeletePro Points rolls out the Sunday after Thanksgiving. No one knows anything other than that right now. WW employees were told if they leaked the info, they'd be fired.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've gathered on the internet, the new points formula takes carbs into account. As a result, some foods may now be higher in point values. To accommodate this, everyone has a minimum of 29 points and overall allowances have increased.
ReplyDeleteMore info on Pro Points:

Quick question on the points, if I weigh 200lbs and want to weigh 170 should I give myself 17pts for my weight or 20?
ReplyDeleteHi just today started WW. I have the calculator. Your site is amazing. Thanks for helping keep us focused. Is there a place on here that has sample daily menus? I would like to see Breakfast, lunch and dinner with 29 pt. system. I may have overlooked it. Thanks for all you do. Your recipes look delicious.
ReplyDeleteSusan
No but you can look at my recipes by points to give you an idea. It is something I can work on in the future.
ReplyDeleteThis is for the old points, not points plus.
ReplyDeleteWhy not update it in line with PointsPlus?
ReplyDeleteThat info isn't public.
