They are naturally gluten-free, low-carb, keto, and paleo, whole30 & dairy-free without the cheese or sour cream. I find the outer leaves of Iceberg lettuce makes the best wraps, they are crisp and pliable and the leaves are large enough to make decent size wraps. More lettuce wraps I love are BLT Lettuce Wraps, Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps.

Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps Tips

  • Look for lettuce leaves that are large and sturdy such as iceberg, baby romaine or butter. You can also double up on the leaves.
  • Add your favorite taco fixings such as shredded cheddar, light sour cream, chives, black olives, jalapeno, tomatoes or whatever you like on your tacos.
  • The portions are generous, and if you’re kids want shells, you can easily bake a few for them and use the same filling.
  • Making your own taco seasoning is a healthier alternative to buying packaged taco seasoning, and uses less sodium, no sugar, no preservatives and no MSG. It also saves you money if you are on a budget. If you prefer to use the package seasoning, simply replace it with the spices listed here.

  1. It was easy to make and tasted really good. I put some diced tomatoes and black olives on top with sour cream and salsa, and even with 99% lean ground turkey it was not dry.

  2. These are amazing!! I was so surprised by how good this made the turkey taste. The only way I’m making ground turkey from now on. Thank you for this recipe!

  3. These are delicious. I also have this recipe saved so I can reference it for tacos, I use this seasoning blend instead of store bought taco seasoning and it is so much better.

  4. Love this!! I am curious how much of the filling would be a serving? Is like say 1 cup per wrap for example? Just curious as I like this for lunches but I’d be doing it as more a taco salad. Wraps wouldn’t be doable at work for me.

  5. Thank you so much for having all of these amazing ground Turkey recipes! This is yet another fabulous one. Loved the spice blend. Thanks again

  6. Both my husband & I love these!! I use 1-1/2 lbs of ground turkey & romaine lettuce instead of iceberg, but otherwise follow the recipe exactly. The flavor of the turkey taco meat is so much better than any prepackaged seasoning. Thank you for sharing a delicious, healthy recipe.

  7. I made these ground turkey tacos and they were wonderful. I have always used packaged taco seasoning and the flavor of these far surpassed any brand I have yet to use. They were not that much harder to do either for the great taste! Lots of compliments from my friend who was over for dinner that night.

    My only question is:
4 oz can tomato sauce I have never seen a 4 oz can of tomato sauce I used an 8 ox which is the smallest I had/could find this made the consistency very soupy but after the 20 minutes of cooking I took the lid off and let the mixture cook down to taco filling consistency. My favorite part of your web site is your use of spices etc for flavor my go to for recipes!! Thank you so much!

  8. I made it ahead so I wouldn’t have to cook after work. It came out great and since I live alone I have left overs in the freezer!

  9. My whole family loves this taco meat! It’s the only recipe we make anymore. I don’t think this should be 5 points on the purple plan though, I show it is zero points when I put it in the recipe builder.

  10. FYI – the points are wrong that are listed here. Not complaining because Gina is a Saint for doing this, but these are 5 points on Blue.

    1. Hi Evelyn. Did you use the recipe builder? The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website (Click on “My Foods,” select “Recipe,” and click “Create a recipe.”) which does not count fruits and vegetables in recipes in the calculations as they are now 0 points.

The SmartPoints® calculator isn’t meant for recipes and will often give you the wrong points (usually higher) because it’s counting the fruits and vegetables. So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, now you know why.

  11. The flavor was great but we could not get these to wrap.  Ended up cutting up the lettuce and eating it as a taco salad.

  12. This was pretty yummy although it seemed a little more like a lunch portion than a dinner.  We just had leftovers for lunch today.  It was easier to eat and more of a meal just tossed over a salad rather than trying to wrap it.  Mind you, I might feel different about that in the summer.  It is bitter cold as I write this and a lettuce wrap just made me feel cold.  Salad was same temp of course but felt more substantial.

    1. OH my I figured out why it seemed like a skimpy serving!  Recipe called for 1 1/3 lbs turkey.  I could only buy it by the 1 pound package.  Of course it was a little skimpy!

      1. This IS super yummy. Beans are zero points for me so when something calls for 1.3 pounds of ground turkey (one pound packages of ground turkey are also what is available at my store) I add a can of drained black beans to it to bulk it out, and if beans won’t work in a recipe, sauteed chopped mushrooms or other veggies usually will!

How much ground turkey goes on each lettuce leaf? I’m making this recipe tonight but with white corn tortillas. Also can I omit the paprika? I don’t have that in my spice cabinet :\

  14. I was wondering how I could even lessen the sodium in this recipe which still seems to have a lot!  What would be the impact of taking out the tsp if salt in the seasoning. And also is it the canned tomato sauce that causes the sodium increase??

    1. I would say yes to the canned sauce, and it would be fine to remove the salt from the seasonings.  It would be fine especially if you are used to less salt in your foods.

  15. The crispness of the lettuce is a perfect pairing for the warmth and spice of the taco meat. I added a chopped jalapeno for some extra spice.

  16. Made this today. Delicious! Will definitely be a repeat to-go lunch dish. Opted for butter lettuce, minced garlic, and shredded Parmesan since I had it on hand. 4 servings was accurate.

  17. The points on this recipe are incorrect.  If it is zero points on blue (which it is) then it would also be zero points on purple as purple has more zero point foods then blue.  (I am a WW guide)

This is definitely one of my weekly go to recipes! My husband and I absolutely love it!! I do have a question for Gina though about the WW points! I am on the purple plan and when I put all the ingredients into my WW app, it appears this should be a zero point recipe?! Can you assist me with this? Thanks so much!!

    1. It is zero points on purple (without the cheese).  If a recipe is zero points on blue then it will also be on purple.  It is incorrect on the recipe.

  19. This has to be the best taco recipe so far. Very flavourful and easy. Will definitely make it again an again.
    Thank you.

    1. Was wondering the same. When I put the recipe in without toppings into the recipe builder it comes out as 0 points per serving.

  20. Another slam dunk! It’s hit or miss with 99% fat free turkey meat but this dish makes it 100% delicious. The turkey meat itself, perfectly seasoned with extra veggies inside – WINNER! Needed a quick meal to whip up last night and this one delivered. Taco Tuesday! I used Romaine lettuce as my wrap and made little boats filled with turkey meat, tomatoes, lite shredded Mexican cheese, tomatoes, light sour cream and a little bit of guacamole. For skinny husband, I lightly sprayed olive oil on corn tortilla and warmed up. Also added fat free refried beans which he puts inside. Great for kids. ZERO points as prepared but mine came to about 5 but that was mostly from the avocado which is okay by me!

  21. Very flavorful for ground turkey! Delicious with some cheese and a small dollop of sour cream. Served with Mexican rice on the side. Yum!

  22. Wow – these were amazing! My entire family loved them! The meat was tender and so flavorful. I followed the recipe (normally I saute my onions first – but added them when suggested) – the only change I made was to add 1 chipotle pepper in adobo. That gave it a little extra kick but it wasn’t too spicy. I used 2lbs of 93% lean turkey and just doubled everything else. These are definitely in our dinner rotation!

  23. I made a batch of the taco meat tonight for lunches this week. I like it but find it salty but I don’t eat a lot of salt. I will make it again, cut back on the salt and add a bit of cayenne or chili flakes for a bit of kick.

What kind of favor should this come out? I made it and I feel like I missed something but I follow all  directions and ingredients

    1. Loved the homemade taco seasoning! SO much better than pre-packaged seasoning. Great recipe. I used ground pork because that’s what I had available! I let it simmer without the lid for the last 5 min and that reduced the liquid.

  25. Love the flavor of the turkey.  I usually have issues that meat isn’t seasoned enough, this was great. Thanks.

  26. This is so so good!! The seasoning was absolutely perfect (which is what I was looking for, I just don’t like the prepackaged stuff anymore)

Also, I added a small can of green chiles and half a can of rotel the second time I made it and it was absolutely delicious–would recommend if anyonr wants to add something to it!

  27. Made this for me as a salad and my family had shells and it’s a winner! So much flavor. Definitely will be in my menu rotation.

  28. These were hit! My 7 year old son ate 2 (with shells) and my VERY picky 6 year old nephew ate 4 with shells. I ate mine with the lettuce wrap. I even have enough for one small wrap tomorrow! Thank you for your wonderful recipes!

  29. I am a poor college student who wants to buy a cook book. Something fast and easy. I was wondering what you would suggest out of your books as well as which book this recipe is in?

this is going to be dinner tonight at my house. Mainly because everyone is gone, and I don’t have to listen to “Turkey? Ick.” Like others, I calculate the points at 2 per serving. And, a question for you – you say 4 oz of tomato sauce, but if you add that and 3/4 cup of water, won’t the filling be rather “soupy”? should it be 4 oz of tomato paste instead?

    1. How about the crock pot? I was going to double it and thought I could dump it in crock pot to simmer after I add all ingredients and meat is browned.  Just curious how long it may take to cook.  Thx!  We love this recipe and make it weekly!

Hi I’m making this tonight and like the other comments say the points make no sense. Nothing on the ingredient list has points. It clearly states the cheese is optional and not included in the points. So there is no way there can be 5 points in this with 99% ground turkey, spices and tomato sauce. ??

I am wondering the same thing about the 5 freestyle points? All the ingredients are now 0 points on freestyle. Unless you are adding in the cheese, sour cream and possible other toppings. I love your recipes Gina ! I am going to try this over the weekend! Thank you!

    1. 3oz of ground turkey is 5 points in the calculator on the app. If you want these to be zero points use ground turkey breast. Ground turkey has fat added to it just like ground beef does hence the points.

      1. The recipe calls for 99% lean ground turkey which is 0 SmartPoints on FreeStyle. There is nothing else in the recipe with a points value, so this is a 0 SP recipe. 🙂

Hello. I love this recipe. I’m curious though for serving size, if you are using a cup to measure your servings what would a serving be?

    Thank you.

    1. It’s 4 servings of 2 wraps each.   Divide your mixture into 4 parts and divide each part into 2 for the serving.

  38. Is this recipe supposed to thicken?? When I made it, it did not get thick. It was still delicious!

  40. I also got 0 points when I added this into Recipe Builder. The meat was delicious. I also used some for a Mexican Pizza topping. Love all your recipes I’ve tried so far!

  41. Hi,
I dont’t believe the freestyle points for this are correct. Since turkey is now 0 points it seemed high to me so I entered the ingredients in my ww recipe builder and sure enough, it’s 1 freestyle point for 2 tacos. I noticed a few other recipes that seemed a bit high too, so I will be surr to put them in my recipe builder first before to be sure.

    1. Potatoes and cheese have points. Please calculate the recipe in recipe builder before you assume its wrong.

      1. Hi
The taco wraps are just lettuce and taco meat. No potatoes. I think you’re referring to your meal prep taco meat and potato recipe. I was referring to the recipe above. Turkey taco lettuce wraps. And I did calculate the points as mentioned in the weight watchers recipe builder.  So it wasn’t an assumption.

      2. I’m not seeing potatoes in this recipe anywhere. And you noted that the cheese was optional and not included in the calculation. So I tend to think Valerie is right on this.

  42. This is a great recipe. However, when I plug it into the WW tracker, it calculates zero freestyle points. I’m trying to figure out where the points are coming from.

  43. Avatar photo
    Jennifer Butler VanGinhoven

Why is this recipe 5 freestyle points?? The ingredients don’t seem to add up.

  44. I have made these many times and they’re a family favorite! One question though: this is basically the same ingredient list as the turkey chili taco soup, so why is this 5 points, and the chili is 0?

      1. I was wondering the same thing… My plan is to put it in the WW Recipe Builder, but am pretty confident it’s going to end up as 0.

      2. Hi Gina, have you confirmed the points for this? It looks like a lot of other comments relate to the same question, but I don’t see a resolution or updated points. Thanks!

  50. Could you make the turkey meat in the Instant Pot? How would you adjust the recipe? I’m guessing high pressure, and cutting the cooking time in half?

  58. Hi 🙂 I love all your recipes!!! Your taco seasoning here is the best and I used it ALL THE TIME! So much that I am going to make a big batch of it and store it. My only issue is, once it’s all mixed in several servings, I won’t know how much to use for a recipe. Can you tell me how much a serving would be?

    Thanks 🙂

    1. That would depend on how much meat you are cooking with. I would estimate approximately 1 1/2T per pound, but TO TASTE.

Amazing low-point dinner that satisfies that “I want junk food” craving. And using iceburg lettuce was perfectly crunchy. Felt like a real taco! Leftovers over pasta with cheese made a great lunch for the kids. Definitely going into the regular rotation.

  63. This may be obvious, but did you use olive oil to brown the meat or just put it in a hot pan with water? Thanks!

  64. Thanks for another great recipe! I made this the other night for dinner when I had ground turkey and no idea what to do with it (I was going to make another recipe but forgot to buy an essential ingredient lol). So I googled “ground turkey Skinnytaste” and I found this recipe haha.

I didn’t have the lettuce for the lettuce wraps but I did have corn tortillas so I baked them in the oven (over two of the wire wracks to get them crispy in the right shape) and served the taco meat in them. I served the taco with tomatoes, a healthy black bean dip, pepperjack cheese and salsa for my boyfriend, and 2% plain Greek yogurt for me. So good!!

I did mess up a bit, I added the same amount of water but used only 1 lb of turkey instead of 1.3 lbs, so it turned out a little watery, but I just took the meat out with a slotted spoon and it was good. I suppose I could have cooked it longer to get the water out (I think? Not sure if that would’ve ruined it somehow) but I was way too impatient because I tried some and it was SO GOOD lol. Anyway, it’s always a plus for me when I make a mistake in a recipe and it still turns out good haha.

I can’t find a 4oz can of tomato sauce. Is that at typo? I can find 8oz cans. Is that the correct amount or should I cut it in half. Thanks!

  70. These taco lettuce wraps were a hit among the six of us!  It is definitely a new family favorite!! Thank you for a great kid-friendly recipe.

  71. Actually, I had accidentially put in cooked turkey. When I changed it to 1 1/3 pound raw turkey breast, it dropped the points to 2 per serving.

If this is accurate, these would definitely go into my regular rotation. 🙂

  72. Hi Gina,

These look great and I'm going to make them this week. I had a question though. When I entered the ingredients into the Smart Points Recipe Builder, it came up as only 3 points per serving? I used ground turkey breast. I wonder if that was the difference

    1. I had the same “issue”, although less points in never an issue. I think it just depends on your turkey. Mine was from Costco and has virtually no fat. More tacos for us then!

  73. If I hate bell pepper, is there anything to replace it? Would it taste okay to just leave out? Thanks!

  74. I made this recipe yesterday for this week's lunch. It is delicious!!! I added a diced zucchini. I didn't have the patience for doing the lettuce wrap so I served it over a bed of lettuce.

  75. TRAGEDY HAS STRUCK. I make these quite often and usually have leftovers for my lunch the next day. Tonight, WE ATE IT ALL. #happysad

  76. These were so good!!
    Even the teenagers loved them!!
    Super Easy to make!!
    And they are Low Fat!!!

    thanks

  77. We are trying to do low/no carbs at night for dinner. I made these last nights not knowing what to expect without a taco shell and these are sooo delish. My BF who was a little hesitant but always willing to try something new and healthy took a couple of bites of the lettuce wrap and said "these are very good and a definte make again". All this week we have made dinner for the low carb section and will continue they were all scrumptious!!! Thank you for all your time and effort with your recipes.

These are absolutely amazing and from now on Taco Nights are made with this recipe and put on homemade tortillas. I have a question though, I had to sub 97% lean ground turkey and I used an recipe analyzer to get the new calories and for some reason, mine says its only 195 calories per servings? I feel like I am missing something, is cheese included in the calories?

  79. I made these for dinner last night and I LOVE them!!! Will definitely be a "regular" on the meal plan in my home!!

  80. The whole family loved this one. We did put them in hard shells because that's all I had (no lettuce), but the meat was awesome!

  81. Made these tonight and they were so good! I wrapped them in Boston Bib lettuce and topped with avocado slices. I also made some Spanish rice on the side. What a yummy, healthy, and easy dinner! They will definitely be going into heavy rotation in my house!

  82. These are fantastic! We all loved them! Full flavor but not too spicy- definitely use Turkey not ground beef for a lighter flavor. Thank you!!!

  83. I made these tonight, and WOW! My husband loved it too, and he grew up eating his Abuela's authentic Mexican cuisine. We did double the amount of chili powder, since we did not have to worry about it being kid friendly. I will absolutely be making these again.

  84. This is one of my favorite recipes from your site! My husband and I love this! We use nonfat plain Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. YUM! 🙂

  85. Made this last night for the family, it was a hit!! I heard one of my kids say, "I don't feel like I am missing anything." Doubled the ingredients and had nothing left over… must have been good.

  86. Making these as I speak (er, type). I substituted the meat for lentils cooked in broth and am really looking forward to seeing how they turn out. Thanks for the recipe!

  87. I actually just found this in your old recipes last week and made it for Cinco de Mayo. They were SO good! Even my husband, who usually doesn't like ground turkey, thought they were fantastic!

  88. We have Taco Tuesday every week too! I usually buy the "mild" versions of the packaged seasoning mix b/c my kids don't like spice…in this case, does the cumin add spice along with the chili powder? What changes would you recommend to make the seasoning mild and kid-friendly?

  89. Found your recipe through google search as I had tacos on my mind after a workout. This is a fantastic variation to typical tacos, in fact I'll probably never go back to normal tacos. The seasoning was perfect, subbed in brown rice with the meat cause I'm currently training for a half marathon, but this is/will be a subbed in meal! Will definitely check your site out!

  90. By far this is one of my favorite ways to enjoy "the taco" I didn't even miss the sour cream. Such an enjoyable dish the whole family enjoys.

  92. OK, I need help- how do you manage to pull full leaves off of a head of iceberg lettuce without completely shredding them in the process? Every time I tried the leaf either tore in half, or the end product had little small tears throughout that would have made eating this as an actual wrap a complete mess.

Any tricks you can recommend? Thanks!

    This one is a keeper.

  96. Gina, thank you for another great tasting recipe made these tonight and they were great, and the taco seasoning was so tasty, from now on I will be making my own, with your recipe. thanks again

  97. Gina, I made these for dinner last night, did not have turkey since, where I live, turkey is only sold as a whole and not in small badges, so I made it with ground meat..It was incredibly delicious, healthy and light! My husband is a big fan of fried and unhealthy food and was so skeptical about the lettuce wrap, when he tried it he just loved it!!! Thank you so much for having one of the best food blogs!!

  105. Loved it! I diced avocado and sprinkled it on top. We skipped the cheese altogether. Didn't mean to just forgot to pull it out. Was fantastic even without the cheese. We will be adding this to our rotation of Gina recipes! Thank you Gian!

Great guys, lettuce makes a great low carb tortilla!

Melissa, I want to ppst one soon, I keep buying the lettuce to make them, then I wind up using it.

  110. I made these and cooked some taco shells for my husband. He was thrilled! I could make him Tacos without feeling like I had to do without. Have you ever tried making a recipe for chicken lettuce wraps? I had tried these at PF Chang's before and they were wonderful. Would love to see a lighter version.

  111. Gina,
This is the BEST website ever….I love to cook and have tried so many of your recipes…you have made me want to eat healthy…I've lost 16lbs, my husband has lost 11 and we feel great!!The pics make me want to try the recipes, everything looks so yummy!! I've told so many of my friends about your site, you are wonderful!!!

  112. I am trying to cut back on sodium and love tacos so when I stumbled across your site,I was at the grocery store that night to pick up ground turkey. I made these last night and it was super yummy and my husband was in love with it too! I think next time I will use Boston lettuce, because i kinda ripped my romaine lettuce cups-haha! the other thing I wanted to ask you was do you drain out the juices when you serve? or do you serve the meat with all the juices? is it grease?

  113. I recently joined Weight Watchers and stumbled upon your site after Googling "weight watcher recipes". These lettuce wraps are the 2nd recipe I've tried (the 1st was the skinny tuna melt) and both were delicious. I can't wait to try more. Barbacoa beef is on the menu for tomorrow's dinner. Thanks Gina!

I was definitely skeptical of these, being that we are a family that loves tacos, but was beyond surprised by how good they ended up being. My husband and all 3 of my boys loved them! Even the youngest who usually doesn't want lettuce in anything. Imgaine that! These will definitely become a popular meal around our house. Thanks so much, Gina!

  115. I love this recipe!! I took the recipe for the ground turkey taco meat and adapted it into a taco salad by topping the turkey on top of a bed of iceburg lettuce with some fat free cheese and ranch dressing on top. It's one of my (and my hubby's) favorites!!

  116. I am currently in college and im getting back on the weight watcher program ( and tricking my roommates into it too) we LOVED this recipe it was sooooo GOOOD. I have also made the crock-pot taco chilli, and the cilantro lime rice. Thank you for all of your fun recipes

  117. You're welcome Jana!

No, I don't have a cookbook. Hopefully I will someday.

3 oz venison is 3 points, 3 ounces turkey breast is 2 pts. I'm not sure how the venison would effect the points in this recipe, it will be a little higher.

  118. We live on a limited budget and eat mostly venison. I have no idea what the point system is to adjust for that. Can you help me?

    1. Venison is leaner than any meat you can buy in a store, so just look up the points for the leanest meat and use that as a guideline.
We eat a lot of Venison, too.  It is the healthiest red meat you can possibly eat; and ‘free-range’ as well.

  119. I just started WW and found your website tonight , I can't wait to make some of your receipes!!! Do you have a cookbook?!?!

  120. I just found your website and I am hysterical with happiness!!!! I am a ww lifetime member who has lost over 75lbs. I am always looking for recipes to make for not only myself, but one's that my family will enjoy as well!! Thank you! 🙂

I made this last night. I used one large clove of garlic (minced) instead of powder garlic. I didn't have any bell pepper on hand so I tossed in about a tablespoon of diced green chilies.

I had some for lunch today. Both times I had it with romaine lettuce for my 'tacos.'

    Thanks!

  122. LOVE LOVE LOVE your site! We've made this three times in the last three weeks. I subbed taco seasoning for the spices, and used about half of both a red and green pepper. I also used Boston (aka butter) lettuce.

The next night, I mixed some leftover turkey mix with some whole wheat penne and it was delicious.

    Thanks for this excellent recipe!

  123. @ Natali, glad you liked it! I love Trader Joe's and love those blue chips! Great idea : ) Good luck with the weight loss!

  124. Thank you for your recipes! I got inspired by your site and joined WW this week. I made this recipe for my family tonight- and it was a hit! I didn't have any big lettuce leaves, so I served it on a bed of salad mix and crushed a few Trader Joe's low fat blue corn tortilla chips in (2 pts) to add extra crunch. Thanks for the seasoning mix too! Awesome recipe 🙂

  125. I stumbled upon your site from a google search, and I just tried this tonight. It was delicious. Even my boyfreind, who refuses to eat decent, smelled this and wanderedover. I am looking forward to trying your other recipes. Thank you for giving me a resource that lets me not feel like I’m dieting.

  126. Yum!! And I never knew how to make my own taco seasoning! So thanks for giving me a better alternative to using those little seasoning packs!
