Crock Pot "Baked" Potatoes – This perfect way to make baked potatoes on a hot summer day without heating up the house.Crock Pot “Baked” Potatoes

Loaded baked potatoes are so quick and easy to make. A few of my other favorites are Loaded Turkey Chili Baked PotatoBroccoli and Cheese Twice Baked Potato, and Loaded Philly Cheesesteak Baked Potatoes.

I’m always looking for new crock pot recipes and have been meaning to make these for quite some time. I loved the fact that the potatoes were ready when I got home from work. All I had to do was throw some steaks on the grill, make a quick salad and dinner was done in less than 20 minutes. The potatoes come out with a deeper yellow color when cooked in the crock pot but they taste just like they do in the oven and the clean-up is quick and easy. Top with your favorite fixins!

And since so many are asking, although I have and love my Instant Pot, I still love my slow cooker! I have the 6 Quart Hamilton Beach Set ‘n Forget Programmable Slow Cooker (affil link). I love it because you can adjust the time you want it to cook, and it automatically turns to warm when it’s done. It also has a probe for meat that automatically shuts off when done. I hated my old crock pot, it burnt everything and my food had a weird taste. This slow cooker is so great, I actually own several!

  1. Add a tbsp of veg. oil and coat potatoes with kosher salt. I find the longer you slow cook them, the better the flavor..

  2. Hi Gina,
I think you said you can do them on high OR low. But which way do you prefer? I would love to try this but I too, am ‘worrying’ about no water in the crockpot.
    Thank you.

  3. Can you do this method with only 2 potatoes? There would be a lot of wasted space, but we only need 2. Thanks

  4. Reading the manufactures instructions they say that liquid has to be put in the crockpot to stop it cracking, and l have a friend who has cracked 3 pots because of not putting liquid in it, so why doesn’t it crack when doing baked pots?

  5. Simple, easy and tasty. I love baked potatoes, i will try this in your way. Thank you for this yummy recipe.

  6. I don't use the foil and I fill the crock pot with potatoes stacked on top of each other all the time and they come out perfect. 🙂

  7. I made this last year for a very large party. I wound up baking my potatoes in the oven and then putting them in the crockpot at the party to keep them warm. (I transported the hot potatoes in the crockpot and then plugged it in when I got there.)

  8. URGENT-Answer needed for tomorrow. I am going to furnish the potatoes for an after church dinner party for eight. I couldn't find and answer to an often asked question about the crock pot baked potatoes. How do you use this recipe for 8 or more potatoes. Can you stack them?

  9. This is a great idea!
There have been many times when I wanted to serve potatoes with dinner but chose (rice-cooker) rice, instead — because I wasn't going to be home in the last two hours before serving dinner (which is typically when the potatoes should be in the oven)…

    Thanks!!

  10. hi gina -question:
i don't like foil touching my food, i hear its unhealthy. can i wrap them in parchment paper and then in foil? is there a risk the paper can burn?
also-can i throw them in with no foil at all?

  11. I've got mine in the crock pot right now! I am eating these with a smaller portion of the coconut chicken salad. I absolutely despise how long it takes to make baked potatoes in the oven.. and how hot it makes the house. This seems like a really good alternative.

Thank you for all of the wonderful, healthy recipes. My weight watcher journey would be practically impossible without them. I would say we use at least 5-6 of them every week. I love that they don't taste like 'diet' food and I don't think I have ever tried one that I didn't like. I cannot wait for your cookbook!

  12. I'm trying this tomorrow! For those who ask about stacking, I've heard a good idea which is to place them in the stoneware vertically, as in "standing up". That way more will fit in!

  13. @BSewingLady, the amount of effort is the same, but making potatoes in the slow cooker allows people to not use microwaves (lots of us aren't convinced of their safety, or just don't have one, or don't like the flavor of a potato cooked in one). Just another alternative!

  14. Great idea. I really like the one about the crock pot bag separating 2 different items. Going to try these ASAP.

  15. I'm 50/50 on this one. How is running the crock-pot all day for some potatoes "better" than just microwaving them just before serving? Right now, I microwave my baked potatoes. I'm willing to do them in the crockpot but it seems like a lot of effort for the same result.

  16. I am going camping this weekend and I think i am going to try this. I Love Baked potatoes…can you do this with Sweet Potatoes too?

  17. I do this a lot but I use crock pot bags.. putting the potatoes under the crock pot bag (with no wrapping).. then the main course over/inside the bag (just to keep the food separated) Its worked well! but FYI- I have a large crockpot and I only cook for 2..

  18. I am trying this tomorrow with sweet potatoes! I love this site thank you so much hope to see a cookbook soon!

Not sure if you can stack them, but you can put as many as would fit one a single layer of your crock pot.

    1. I realize this is old but in case anyone currently wants to know. YES! You can definitely stack them. I’ve done 10 potatoes in my 5qt crock pot and it’s no problem. No need to rotate them or anything.

  20. I need to bring a dish for a LARGE family party, many of whom are Vegetarians, and several of us are WW….so, my question is, I have the large All Clad crock-pot..Can I just keep wrapping up potatoes until it is full and let it run? I would think maybe I would need to cook longer, and or rotate the batch 1/2 way thru the cooking process. What do you think? And a few sweet potatoes in the pot sound like a good idea too!

  21. Made these last night…the potatoes were wonderful. Having them already done when I got home made for a quick dinner. I will definitely be making these again! Thanks, Gina!

  22. Good idea for baking taters. Can you stack them up in the crock if necessary for a larger group???

    1. Yes! You can stack them, no problem, they do fine. I’ve done like 10 at a time in my 5qt crock pot.

  23. I am so excited to find not only your page, but this idea! My husband loves potatoes baked in the oven vs the microwave! Will be doing this one for sure!

  24. I never thought to "bake" potatoes in the crock pot. I gave it a go and they are wonderful!! I like to make a meal out of baked potatoes, so I topped mine with frozen broccoli w/ cheese sauce that is WW friendly and I believe only 2 PP. I had leftovers the next day for lunch at work. What a great idea!

  25. I was just given your sight by a fellow weight watchers member, and i am so incredibly grateful. Your ideas are inspiring me to try new recipes and I love that you show the point value. Thank you so much for making this weight loss journey more interesting and fun.

  26. I absolute LOVE cooking potatoes this way now!!! It's the only way I'll cook them now! I also love, love, love sweet potatoes done this way. For the sweet potatoes, I don't put any toppings on…they are that good!

I made these this weekend for my family (9 people) and used Idaho potatoes. I did not prick them and let me tell you, they were the best I've EVER had. My family LOVED them!

  28. Great idea! I am making these today b/c on Wednesdays we have dog training class and usually either we have to pick up fast food and scarf it on the way, or we don't eat until 9 or 10pm when we get home after class. Now we'll have something yummy waiting for us right when we get home, and we'll be able to eat before class!

  29. So I tried the baked potatoes in the crockpot today – wonderful!! Nice and moist – we had chili over them – very yummy!!

  30. Just found your website – someone on the ww message boards mentioned it. I have to tell you I will be on here all the time!! thank you for all your hard work – it's wonderful to find a site that gives serving sizes and points!! Very happy 🙂

  31. OK ~ so WOW ~ I am loving these recipes! I stumbled across your website at work yesterday by chance, and I am so excited to make so many of them! My printer cant keep up with all of the recipes I am printing to try!!

  32. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Gina! I started cooking all my tubers this way. Even the beets for your red beet salad recipe (which is awesome).

I have to give you credit for inspiring my boyfriend and I to start our WW way of eating. We are finding the recipes from your site not only healthy and within the WW guidelines, but the best part is that they are truly far superior to those suggested by WW themselves. I am now a true follower of Gina's. We keep a folder of the "Keeper" recipes and so far we haven't thrown any away !!
    Thank you !!!!!

I am going to try these tomorrow. We are having a little bbq tomorrow and don't want to turn the oven on. I'm pretty excited about it.

These were wonderful! Made these this weekend for family and they were the perfect "baked" potato. I felt they were better than potatoes baked in the oven. They were so moist in the inside. This is the way I'm doing my baked potatoes from now on. Thanks Gina!

  36. What a great idea! I thought of a great topping for these.. Green Giant makes those "Just for One" vegetable trays & there's a broccoli with cheese sauce that is 0 Points! I would think that would be a great topping! Will have to try it out this weekend. Thanks for all the great recipes, I am really loving your site!

  37. I heard of potatos in plastic wrap on a plate with water and in the microwave but never a crock pot that is a good idea.

  38. Well, this solves a problem for tomorrow! I can't believe I hadn't seen this recipe on your site before.

I'm BBQ-ing tomorrow night with friends, and I wanted to "bake" potatoes, but I'll be gone until they arrive. This is SUCH a perfect solution. I'm definitely going to try it.

    Thanks Gina! You're the best!

    1. I wash potatoes real well, sprinkle w/Montreal Steak Seasoning & roll in foil then put on grill turning occassionally…probably about 20-30 minutes depending on size of potatoes; grill meat & all done!!! Easy clean up!

  39. @ Lee, I'm sure these would be awesome with sweet potatoes!

@Jo. really? No need to prick… Good to know.

Yes, you put the foil covered potatoes in the crock pot and that's it. No water. Someone recently told me they make it in the crock pot without the foil and it works great too.

  40. I swear…crock pots are the BEST things ever. This recipe proves you can make anything in a crock pot! Thanks for sharing this and so many other great recipes.

  41. I've been doing this for years! I have never pricked them with a fork, though. It is so easy and they taste exactly like oven-baked. Much better than microwaving!

  42. That's clever. Every time I think I've seen everything you can do with a crockpot, there's something new!

  43. wow I never thought to do them in the crock pot before! Great way to keep the house cool in the summer! THANKS again for another recipe! 🙂
