Baked Bananas are the perfect, healthy dessert. They taste decadent, like bananas foster without all the butter and extra calories.

Baked Bananas

I love the simplicity of this Baked Bananas recipe, which is a great way to use up ripe bananas. Topped with honey and cinnamon, the bananas smell amazing as they bake. They’re perfect for dessert, snack, or even breakfast. Delicious served with whipped cream, fro-yo, chopped nuts, or oatmeal. For more ways to use up ripe bananas, try Banana Foster Crepes, Banana Zucchini Cake, and Banana Nut Bread.

Baked Bananas with ice cream.

These bananas are so creamy and decadent – you’ll swear there’s butter in them! Besides the bananas, there are only two other ingredients: honey and cinnamon. The riper the better for this recipe! Top the bananas with cinnamon and honey, cover with foil, and bake for 10-15 minutes. It’s that easy! I like to serve them with a little Halo Top or whipped cream, but totally optional.

Since bananas are naturally sweet, they are an excellent choice for a healthy dessert. They are rich in potassium, which plays an important role in decreasing the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. Bananas are also high in vitamin B6 and C.

How to Serve Baked Bananas

There are so many different ways that you can eat these sweet baked bananas. Below are some of my favorites, but feel free to get creative! I’d love to know what you come up with – comment below!

  • Eat with a light vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt.
  • Top with whipped cream, raisins, or chocolate chips.
  • Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on them for some crunch.
  • Top Greek yogurt and granola and eat for breakfast.

Variations:

  • Sub the honey for maple syrup.
  • Add a dash of nutmeg or cardamom to the bananas.

  1. Love these so much. I even knew I was haphazardly executing the recipe but it still made me very happy to eat.

  2. Quick easy inexpensive family friendly dessert or snack. I used agave instead of honey and sprinkled Saigon cinnamon. My daughter had a few dark chocolate chips and mine a touch of light whip cream. Thanks so much. Definitely a keeper.

  3. This is delicious! We’ve been buying more fresh produce lately and I’ve been looking for ways to use bananas to replace desserts or too-sweet breakfast foods. The kids loved this! I serve it with whipped cream and a yogurt on the side.

  4. Made this tonight and it was so delicious! I added Monkfruit blend sweetener instead of honey since that is what I had on hand. Also sprinkled some cinnamon on a few slices and nutmeg on others. I ended up liking the ones with cinnamon more. Used chopped pecans as the topping. Perfect dessert!

  5. This really reminds me of Girl Scouts.
For your recipe, I added a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips and skipped the whipped cream.
    Yum.

  6. How perfectly rediculous to suggest this is healthy. Bananas+Cinamon fine, but then add Honey, Ice Cream, Cream???? Get real.

Healthier than a sugar laden cake with frosting wouldn’t you say? Looks like a nice TREAT, under 200 calories even with the honey and a 1/4 cup scoop of vanilla ice cream. We don’t have to be martyrs to eat healthier.

    2. I used sugar-free pancake syrup instead of honey. You can also use Halo Top ice cream or low-calorie whipped cream.

  7. My husband and I loved this. Topped it with a little whipped cream. I am always looking for ways to make a healthy dessert with fruit.

  8. I have tried the same recipe with Sweet potatoes. Instead of baking, I microwave the SP. Yummy! Nice midafternoon snack!

  9. This might be a dumb question but should I take the peel off or scrape it from the peel after it’s cooked?

5 stars because I already know it’s going to be delicious!

  10. I can’t thank you enough for this one! I made it and our family loved it. Unfortunately we are a sweets family, but this dessert will be great in rotation without the guilt. Thank you again!

  11. Made this tonight as my dessert, it was delicious!  Did add the whipped cream. It couldn’t be easier to make and I like a nice warm snack when it’s cold outside!

I tried this recipe last night and it was so delicious! Once the bananas were baked, I drizzled some peanut butter on top and oh my was it a tasty treat. Simple and healthy!

  13. I’m eating this for breakfast right now, with a side of some plain greek yogurt that I sweetened up with just a smidge of stevia and vanilla. It is so yummy. Thank you! 🙂

  14. What a delicious, rich-tasting dessert.  My thin husband said it tasted “so rich”.  I put 1/2 cup of Halo Top vanilla on top and used maple syrup.  Will definitely be making this again very soon.

I love everything about your receipts. I love that you use all real ingredients. I have always struggled with healthy receipts because it seems that most people associate healthy with dietetic. While they are not mutually exclusive, many dietetic receipts include chemicals I try to avoid. I always attempt to cook low calorie with healthy ingredients and you have made that easy and fun. I also love all the variation both with ingredients and means of cooking choice. Thank you.

  16. This was so easy and absolutely delicious! I’m normally a chocolate lover, but this was a nice change.

  17. Gina, every one of your recipes that I have tried have been fabulous. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Thank you so much for all that you do. I especially like the weekly menu planner. I helps me get different ideas. I can’t wait to try this one. I’m sure it won’t disappoint.

  18. I absolutely loved this! Oh my gosh so good. I mushed mine up and mixed it with a half cup of Greek yogurt. Best breakfast I’ve had in a long long time! Cant wait to make it for the hubby!

    1. I like it this recipe, Also in same temperature banana with dry cherry cinnamon little bit extra virgin olive oil..later with Greek yogurt..

  19. I’m not doing Weight Watchers. I’m trying to follow an anti-inflammatory diet, and was looking for a way to use up ripe bananas without using sugar. I feel pretty confident about using honey as a substitute, especially if it is raw. I decided to look up a recipe that uses honey instead of sugar, and stumbled across this.

My husband had a vague idea that I was doing it. I kept lamenting that I couldn’t have ice cream with it. When it came out of the oven, I dipped right in, but I left two halves for him. He meandered over, saw what I was eating, and went straight to the pan. He didn’t even use a dish. He ate them straight off the pan. He agreed about the ice cream. I definitely plan to make this again! Maybe before then I can find some dairy free ice cream. Thanks for sharing.

  21. I love your recipes!! Can you please explain why this recipe is 4 points+ ? Bananas are free and 1 Tbsp is 2 points+. Thanks!!

  22. Since bananas are 0 points on the Points Plus system, shouldn't this only be 1 point for the honey?

  23. This was delicious! I couldn't wait for it to be done, it just smelled so good! I just found your website a few days ago, and I can't wait to try out your recipes!

    1. As a side note, I tried this uncovered – I thought it was even better! The honey and cinnamon caramelized – delish!

  24. Hi Gina,
I've been perusing your vegan recipes, and while they all look fabulous, I've noticed that you garnish a lot of the savoury ones with cheese and/or other dairy products (in this case ice cream). While I may seem a bit nitpick-y, it does defeat the purpose of making a dish vegan or labelling it as such. I realize that people are free to do what they like with their food, but it might be something to consider in the future, or maybe explore some vegan garnish options?

  25. Looks good but the points are off as Charlotte says, according to the new Pointsplus system. It should be 1 point, no points for bananas.

I have been a WW member for years. I went back when points plus was still pretty new. I lost 20 lbs. and have never counted fruit when I made something with it. This seems more like it should be 1 point just for the honey. I have never heard you had to count it if put in a recipe. Wow, I am surprised. I have not been in a good wile and I do not know what their newest thing is. I just stay with what I know.

Thanks for all the recipes and the nutritional values listed.

  27. Ok what if I want some sort of crunch on top, as if In the banana gets crispy , should I leave it longer?
    Thanks many blessings!:)

  28. Just made these on a rainy night, and oh my goodness, they were amazing! You never disappoint, Gina! Thank you!

  29. What a great little treat… I love bananas and sometimes it is nice to make them for dessert. This would also be great wrapped into a crepe.

  30. Gina,
Come to the podium for another Gold medal! Wow, this was a perfect 10! Thank you for all you do to make us happy & healthy!
    You rock!

  31. I agree with Teresa, the bananas don't need to be counted, as this is not a really a "recipe", like banana bread or pancakes or something, but is really more of a preparation. From WW:

"If your “recipe" is truly just a few pieces of fruit, then you might want to record it in your Tracker as separate items or as a “meal" — the latter looks at each item separately and then adds up all the PointsPlus values. Because all the items have 0 PointsPlus values, the total will also be zero."

  32. I just tried this, and it was surprisingly great! I wasn't sure if I'd like it because of how mushy it would be, but I loved it. Then again, I'll eat almost anything with cinnamon on it.

  33. I tried this recipe tonight and it was awesome! I also made some strawberry banana ice cream with just frozen bananas and strawberries and candied pecans. It was great. Thanks.

MMMmmm….can nobody see that the fat is replaced by sugar.

same deal- it all turns to fat on the body!
Banana- one of the highest GL fruits +honey/agave!!!

    Look out insulin spike:-((

  35. I made this without the honey, because I had no more points left (lol), and it was still DELISHHHHH!!!

  36. I wouldnt count my banana either. Just like if I were to cook asparagus and toss it in rice it suddenly doesnt make the asparagus have points. Fruit is 0. Now if I were to make a banana cake or apple pie, that might be different, but not for something like this. JMO

  37. YUM! I loveee bananas! Never tried baked bananas but from the looks of it i'm in for a real treat! I love that it looks like a desert but yet is incredibly healthy for you! Bananas do soo many amazing things they even help with cramps for all you ladys out there grab a banana! :O What kind of icecream is that in the picture?! It looks great! Thanks again for another amazingg recipe! ☺

  38. DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't cooking anything other then your recipes in 2 months now! LOVE your site!

  39. I made these last weekend and my husband loved them! I added a little bit of chopped walnuts for on top! Yummy. Thanks for the recipe 🙂

  40. Made this tonight as a snack..it was so good! I had it with low fat frozen Cool Whip…which I scoop out and use as I would ice cream.

  41. Thank you so much for creating this. I use them on my sons pancakes instead of syrup. He loves bananas, its healthier and I know what is in it. We all love them.

I love bananas…actually I am the only one eating bananas at my house. So instead of using the whole oven for one banana, I “stove top” baked them. It turned out great. Thanks Gina for the idea.

  43. The WW explanation for why fruit counts in recipes:

    http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=108831&sc=3002

  44. DELISH!!! Just made one of these. I added some cocoa powder and used 1/2 the honey. I don't know why you have this as a points plus value of 4. Banana is 0 points and 2 tsp of honey is only 1point. This would be a 2 point dessert on points plus. ENJOY!!!

  45. Hi Gina, what kind of ice cream (or other) do you have paired with the bananas in your picture? Looks delicious, love your recipes!

  46. made this for dessert last night and they were awesome! my husband looked at me after he ate one (i only made two bananas since i was testing it out) and made me make MORE! LOL

  47. I guess I'm just in a cooking mood today, this is the 2nd recipe I've made! I made these for dessert! Delish! I had some extra points left and threw on a tbsp of chocolate chips. Honestly, it hit the chocolate need perfectly because the banana makes the chocolate seem much more rich. This will probably be my go to chocolate fix for a while!

  48. I love how most of your recipes are ingredients that are in the kitchen. Thanks. Clam Chowder was super.

  49. First time poster here 🙂

Thanks for sharing this simple yet delicious creation. Even my fiancé, who hates anything veggie and fruit, loved it!

I think next time I'll bake it uncovered or take the cover off half of the time for some crisp. Im also thinking about trying it with some halved apples.

Thanks again, my taste buds are happy!

  50. This was delicious. My husband and I just finished eating these. I baked on 400 for 12.5 minutes (uncovered) and added honey and cinnamon sugar. What a great treat! Thank you for all of the wonderful recipes!

  51. i was really confused about the calories for this until i realized it was TSP not TBSP honey! whew! i almost made these super sweet! im glad i caught it or else i would have sweeeeet bananas and lots of unneeded calories!

  52. This recipe *might* have revolutionized my breakfast habits. I just discovered your site a week ago and have already made 5 recipes and had these bananas for breakfast 3 times. I have smashed them and spread them on whole wheat toast and bagels…so delicious. Thanks for all the great ideas – I cannot wait to try more!!

I tried doing this last night for dinner and they loved it! I cooked mine inside an oven toaster for about 10-15 mins. It was a success. A guilt-free dessert indeed!

Fruit are only 0 points if eaten alone, as a snack. When used in a recipe the points increase because they are not truly 0 points… the nutritional info doesn't lie.

  55. Just wondering why this is 4 points…A banana is 0pts and honey is only 1pt? Worried I'm missing something! Thanks 🙂 I love love love this site…everything is very easy to make and nothing has failed me yet. So delicious!

  56. I made this tonight and served it with vanilla frozen yogurt. My fiance and I split it and it's a good thing I had already promised him half because if I had been home alone I would have eaten the whole thing! So yummy. Thank you for combining these flavors. Tastes very logical but I would never have thought of this myself.

  57. I made these last night for desert after making your baked empanadas. My husband's family is Puerto Rican and (fried) empanadas are a childhood favorite of his. I'm happy to report he LOVED the healthy version and he thought the baked bananas were a nice addition to replace (fried) sweet plantanos. I'm already kicked this recipe out to all of my friends.

Megan, fruit is only 0 if you snack on it alone. Otherwise you count the NI when used in a recipe.

  59. I am sorry. I meant points. I just started Weight Watchers so I am learning the ropes. I am used to referring to categories.

  60. Avatar photo
    Gina @ Skinnytaste

The calories remain the same, it's the ww points plus that people are referring to. If you count calories, disregard all the comments.

  61. I am confused as to why the calories increase when you put the food in a recipe. Could you explain it to me? The nutritional values change? I am not sure I understand.

  62. I am going to try this right now! just watched Buddy the Cake Boss make Banana's Foster! So glad I have banana's in the house!

  63. Gina.. i just made this. Can i just say that this is my new guilt-less treat. i absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE these. sooo delish and healthy 🙂

    you're a genius.

  64. Oops… just read your post above… sorry! I think I will call it 0 points for the banana, though 🙂

  65. Yum! I love all of your recipes!! Just curious… why is the points value 4? I thought bananas were 0 points now, and 2 tsp of honey is only 1 pt.

  66. This was absolutely fabulous and tasted great. I will definitiely make this over and over again for a delicious dessert. I love this site so keep up the great work 🙂

When you use fruit in a recipe, they are no longer free, you need to base points off the nutritional info. I know, I know! I don't like it either, I'll leave it up to you to decide if you want to count them or not.

  68. Ok, I made this for a mid-morning snack and it was yummy! I did modify it a little bit. I used brown sugar instead of honey, and I put 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract drizzled on top. I baked mine for 7 minutes (don't like mushy bananas at all) uncovered in my toaster oven. So yummy! Thank you, Gina!

  69. On points plus would this only be one point for the honey? Cause that is quite the dessert for only one point!

  70. YUM! So good – add a dollop of Cool Whip Free and it's an amazing dessert (now 1 point on the new plan!) Will definitely make again!

  71. Now with bananas ZERO I do this but use FF Cool Whip (zero) and what a warm treat! This way it is ONLY 1 PT! This is GREAT!!! THX!

  72. This was such a great midnight snack, since I always have bananas around. And I love how even if your bananas have many brown spots on the peels, this will still work wonderfully!

Marshmallows are fat free, but high in sugar. A handful doesn't have too many points, I love this idea!

  74. Avatar photo
    rachael_fulmer

Do mini marshmallows have a lot of points? We used to do this when I was a kid but we would leave the banana in the skin, make a slit and poke marshmallows in, seal them up in foil and put them in the camp fire or on the grill….this recipe takes me back!

  75. Wow! I just came across your website and I'm loving all the recipes. I started WW about a month ago and I'm really changing my diet around. This website is amazing! I'm glad you have the WW points too – it makes it so easy! I loved this recipe, it was such a treat 🙂

The recipes are delicious and easy.Great blog and this information is very useful to everyone.

  77. WOW! I never in my life thought I could enjoy doing WW. My first experience was great, however, I was not married and cooking for a husband at the time, so eating the Smart Ones was just easier for me. Now that I have a husband AND a 4 month old daughter, I have to please the husband while getting my pre-baby weight back and this site definately makes it possible for me to stay on track and also help my husband stay on track, since he IS in the Air Force and maintaining a healthy weight is important for him as well. I can now cook ONE meal for two people instead of cooking for him and then for ME. Thank you so much for expressing your talent to all of us. It means so much to me!!

  78. This recipe was good but not one of my favorites on you website. It's me…I think I discovered that I do not like warm banana's

  79. Yummy! Made it last night and some bites definitely had a Bananas Foster type taste to it. om nom nom! =) Had it with a small scoop (1/4 cup) of regular ice cream and it totally hit the spot~ will definitely make again. [I forgot to cover it, but it was fine to me… had it in for about 12 minutes)

  80. We LOVED these! I actually just sliced them and put them on my stone. I didn't cover them at all and they were super yummy!

  81. Gina,

I love your recipes and pictures and I am thrilled that you include the points values for all of them!!! I am following WW and it is great to see how you've made these delicious recipes point freindly. You should publish a book! I would definately buy it!

  82. I just started WW and I love to cook and when I found your website I was elated. I could cook and eat. The recipes are delicious and easy. My children have really enjoyed trying new recipes with me. Thanks for sharing your talent.

  83. this looks amazing. I used to do the same thing as a kid but instead of splitting it in half, I used to chop up the banana into lots of slices.

  84. Gina-made these last night and they were so delicious! My husband loved them. I was thinking about making this again and substituting sliced apples for lower points. What do you think?

  85. A friend of mine tried for these for 3 of us doing WW and they were UNBELIEVABLE! Thank you so much for creating such a fabulous treat! It's definitely a keeper.

  86. This was delicious, the only thing was, I think that covering it made them very mushy, because all the steam stays in the pan. Next time I'll leave them uncovered and see what happens. The flavor was fantastic though!
