Banana Oat Cookies
3-Ingredient Banana Oatmeal Cookies

Let’s not mistake these healthy banana oat cookies for traditional cookies, these are best eaten right out of the oven! They are soft and chewy, and so delicious!! It’s like a banana bread recipe, only as a cookie! You can even eat them for breakfast or enjoy them as a snack or dessert. I’ve also created variations of these banana oatmeal cookies, try these Chocolate Chip Healthy Oat Cookie, and my PB & J Healthy Oat Cookie.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies

These banana oatmeal cookies are best right out of the oven, they are chewy and soft – just how I like my cookies! You can also make them as a two ingredient cookie, but walnuts and bananas are my favorite combination. Walnuts are nutrient-rich, they provide good fat, protein, fiber, and manganese, plus magnesium, iron, calcium, and B vitamins.

Variations:

I’m always anxiously awaiting my bananas to get super ripe so I can make these cookies, which I have been making for years. I’ve made them with Chocolate Chips, and PB & J. You can try them with almonds, raisins, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, craisins and more!

They are also great for egg free, dairy free, gluten free (use gf oats), vegetarian, and vegan diets.

Tips

  • Your bananas should be super ripe. The riper the sweeter since we are not adding sugar here.
  • Leftover cookies can be frozen; let them cool then wrap tight in plastic wrap and freeze. Thaw or heat in microwave a few seconds before eating.
  • Rolled oats can be used in place of quick outs.
  • Check labels for gluten-free.

  1. I made these cookies and they were delicious 😋. I added a little vanilla and cinnamon. Being a diabetic these are just right for me. Thank you.

  2. These taste great! Do they need to be stored in the refrigerator right after baking or the freezer? I left mine in an airtight container on the counter and didn’t realize till this morning they might have to be frozen?

  3. We have been cutting way back on added sugar so I love the basic idea. I have played around with the recipe: we don’t like walnuts so much so I leave them out and add raisins to give it an oatmeal/raisin taste texture w/ the chewiness of the raisins. I also add peanut butter to add nut protein back in. I use rolled oats (blended for a few seconds to get the same texture as in the recipe). I think the basic recipe has endless possibilities and look forward to experimenting with it further.

  4. Your recipes are changing my life ! Thank you thank you. These are delicious and easy and so nice to have a lower calorie option to satiate a sweet craving. i added a tiny bit of vanilla. Thank you for your wonderful site !

  5. Yep. Banana Bread cookie. Had 5 very ripe bananas. Adjusted the amount accordingly. I didn’t have walnuts. So, I used pecans.
    Thank you

Great recipe for quick cookie that was 5 minutes tops getting in oven. Great taste.
Will use recipe over and over with my Granddaughter, Meridith.

  7. Made these on my truck ! They turned out really good and tasted fabulous. Always like a healthy change from truck stop food .

  8. Delicious and quick and easy! I used super ripe plantains because that was what was in the store at the time. Baked them in an air fryer with the associated modifications .

  9. I made these and they are so delicious! My husband liked them as well, now we can enjoy a sweet treat without guilt.

  10. Loved this recipe – I added some cinnamon and about 1/3 cup almond flour and a sprinkle of peanut butter chips. Turned out fantastic!! So easy and delicious! Will definitely make this again!

  11. I made these and they were tasty. A couple things: the instructions didn’t say to flatten them when placing them on the cookie sheet. Half way through cooking they hadn’t spread. So I flattened them with the back of a spatula.
Also, are they supposed to get crispy? Or remain fairly soft (like mine did)

    1. They won’t spread since they have no leavener, so you can definitely spread out before baking to your desired thickness. Mine always remain soft.

Yum! Will definitely make these again. I don’t really miss the sugar and fat. There’s sweetness from the banana and nice texture. Thank you for sharing.

  13. These are great cookies, easy to make, and satisfying. They taste like mini banana muffins. I like that my sweet craving is satisfied with 1. I imagine eating more than two.

I’ve made these twice now. Of course it doesn’t match a cookie made with butter, flour and sugar…but….i don’t eat those anymore. I add a tablespoon unsweetened cocoa and vanilla. These satisfy my sweet tooth and gives me a treat to enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee without guilt.

  15. I’m sorry but these were not good at all. I even added extra things suggested in the commengs for flavoring but my family and I did not like them. I apologize for the negative comment but I was taken aback due to so many good reviews.

    1. These have 3 ingredients. You can’t expect it to taste like a cookie with butter and lots of sugar. If they didn’t taste “good at all”, it’s probably the quality of your ingredients.

  16. Love these cookies, I put a dent in the centre and put a bit of jam in it…today it was blueberry jam…delish

    1. Nadine, I never waste bananas anymore. If I can’t eat them or they start turning brown I put them in freezer bags to use in recipes. They are so sweet then and I use all the juice in the bag. I usually freeze bags with no more than one or 2 bananas in them.

  17. Found your recipe and got excited. Found my bananas were not ripe enough. And my walnuts are all gone. Got sad. Found organic pumpkin puree at Costco. Decided to combo all of your ideas…a few days later, now that the bananas are ripe! Using your recipe, I doubled it, adding the pumpkin and used Nutzo butter (2 TB) and Buorbon Maple syrup (2TB) along with pumpkin pie spice and a light sprinkle of salt and some vanilla. My kitchen smells wonderful! So glad I found your recipe! If the maple syrup is a no-no, at least it was balanced out with the veggies – pumpkin! Yes, they “taste healthy”, but it’s a yummy healthy and my picky family agrees!

  18. These cookies were easy to make! I did add dried cherries, ground hemp seeds, and ground coconut flax and chia seeds. After the first batch, added cinnamon, also. I am pre-diabetic so these were awesome for me. I’m not a fan of oatmeal, but I can eat these! I definitely will add vanilla next time. I did use very ripe bananas but it seemed like it needed something else. Bottom line, very healthy and satisfying.

  19. I made these for my husband. He’s a diabetic so these cookies were really good for him. I plan to make them often and I will be tripling the recipe.

  20. I’ve added vanilla extract, cinnamon and pecans. My daughter is diabetic and truly enjoys these on occasion. Next time I make them, I’m going to stir in a little peanut butter!

  21. They are good. I added vanilla, chocolate chips, cinnamon and salt as suggested in reviews. Will be making for my granddaughter who is allergic to eggs.

  22. I added vanilla, cinnamon and salt and they came out good. I should have made smaller scoops but otherwise they are yummy

I really enjoy these cookies. They are very filling. I make them with Lilly’s chocolate chips . So good!

  24. These are so good! My husband loved them too. I ran out of oatmeal so used 4 packets of better oats maple & brown sugar 100 calorie packs. Instant oatmeal with flax seeds. These will be regular for us but we will add some dark chocolate mini chips next time. Thank you for a great healthy recipe!!!

  25. I made these with the old fashion oats. Baked in my toaster oven for 25 minutes. Loved them. Will make again.

  26. I love them BEST no sugar added snack! absolutely Perfect for traveling, pack and go. since I love my coffee and cookies at 3 PM, without a whole lot of sugar! And my Golfer at home, never likes “darken” Banana’s, it works out for me! Thank you

    1. Not sure what I could have done wrong. I followed the recipe and nobody liked them. I had to throw them out.

  27. I was skeptical how these would turn out with such few ingredients. Used Bob’s Red Mill to keep gluten free and swapped the walnuts for chocolate chips. They were delicious!! Even the kids loved them.

  28. This is a keeper. I place the mixture in a loaf pan. Sometimes add chopped mixed nuts; raisins or choc chips. (Bitter sweet). Also add a tsp of vanilla or almond essence. As a loaf it’s like banana bread with a twist. Try putting the oatmeal in the blender first. Just like flour. Enjoy

  29. Diabetic and on diet, low carb, low sugar. Taste great! Just ate two instead of lunch. Filling. Added walnuts for crunch.

    1. yes it works the same way. you just need to let the finished mixture sit for a few minutes before scooping them onto the baking tray.

    2. Yes, I used old fashioned oats. Added an egg and scoop of Bluebonnet protein powder, cinnamon and nutmeg! Pretty darn good! I tried adding applesauce in the last but not sweet enough for me. Next time maybe a couple of sugar free chips too!

      1. Not sure what the point is then. Just make regular cookies. I never understand changing an entire recipe.

  30. I’ve been making this recipe for years! I’ve taken them to work and they disappear immediately. I’m making a half batch with a very ripe banana as I write. I also like them with cocao nibs instead of or with the nuts. They are so easy and satisfying. Thank you for the recipe!!!!

  31. These cookies are simple and delicious. I discovered if you put a pinch of Himalayan pink salt on them after they are baked it elevated the taste to perfection.

Yummmmmm! SO easy and tasty! Mix and bake in less than 5 minutes!
I replaced walnuts with mini chocolate chips and added 1 tablespoon of coconut nectar and 1 tablespoon of applesauce because my bananas were small. Will definitely make these and variations of them again!!

Yummmmmm! SO easy and tasty! Mix and bake in less than 5 minutes!
I replaced walnuts with mini chocolate chips and added 1 tablespoon of coconut nectar because my bananas were small. Will definitely make these and variations of them again!!

  34. This recipe is so easy and tastes great. I have done a number of variations that have worked great also. You can add some applesauce to whole oats to soften them. You can use almond butter instead of nuts. You can add anything to them and they still cook well and taste great for my picky child.

  35. Warm from the oven, this simple cookie gave the satisfaction of a treat while still being healthy. I’m already thinking of variations.

  36. I added some raisins and used almonds (since I didn’t have any walnuts) I then mixed some cinnamon and monk fruit sweetener and sprinkled the cookies before baking. Delicious!

  37. Great little recipe for using up bananas! I added just under a 1/4 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips for fun. They were super yummy with a cup of tea!

  38. Great snack and easy 2 make. When craving something sweet while watching calorie and diet it really des it for me. I have added prunes chopped up really tasty

  39. Such an easy and tasty treat! I added 1/4 cup of mini chocolate chips and 1/4 tsp vanilla. Tasted like chocolate chip banana bread with no work. My vegetarian friend and my partner (who mostly just eats meat and barely any sweets or baked goods,) both loved them. Will definitely make again (just as written and with chocolate.)

  40. Love these! I have been making them regularly for a couple of years. I add cinnamon and vanilla. I also add flax and chia seeds since they’re good for me and I won’t consume them otherwise. I freeze the whole batch and then pull out two to go into the toaster oven for 6-8 minutes for breakfast.

  41. I used cashews instead of walnuts. These are great with a cup of coffee in the afternoon. Sweet and tasty. I even like them right out of the refrigerator. Thank you!

  42. I made these but used sweet potatoes instead and mini chocolate chips. They were wonderful. My husband couldn’t stop eating them.

  43. I love these and have been making them twice a week since I found the recipe. Unfortunately I just moved to an apartment without an oven. Is it possible to achieve something even close with a microwave? I have no experience ‘baking’ with a microwave so I don’t know what’s possible.

  44. These are amazing and so simple to make. I make them frequently and share them at work. Everyone loves them

  45. Nice cookie. I used cranberries and walnut. It is a tasty way to utilize overrip bananas. I will make these again

  46. I really like these! My husband is sensitive to nuts so I swapped in 1/8 cup of mini chocolate chips for the walnuts. Added a tiny pinch of salt, too. My bananas were on the smallish side of medium and I got 15 cookies using a cookie scoop. I wanted them a little more ‘done’ so I baked for 15 minutes, checked, left them in for another 4 minutes, checked again, and let them go another 4 minutes for a total of 23 minutes. They are so tasty! I’m going to have to make another batch tonight or tomorrow!

  47. Didn’t have any walnuts on hand, but I had a bottle of almond extract. Smells and tastes very good. I know it probably makes it a little less healthy, but I threw a tablespoon of butter in the mix.
    Makes awesome cookies!

  48. Has anyone ever soaked the quick oats in almond milk before using them in these cookies? Love the flavor but the oats needed a little something to soften them up.

  49. i added spices (nutmeg and cinnamon) and a dadh id vanilla.
i agree with the other review it makes like 10 cookies. i got 9. i assume it could varry on banana size. i used a mini muffin pan to bake them. to me theirs not much to rate in regards to taste. its oats and bananas. it depends how well you mash, mix, and if you over/under bake them. i do love how its a simple base easy to change it up. i didnt add nuts by choice.

  50. Just made these and I can’t stop eating them!
They are delicious, I added mini chocolate chips to half of the batter just to try it and oh my gosh so good!
Thank you for this recipe 🙂

  51. I love this recipe for a quick mid- day snack or a healthier treat with my morning coffee. I do add a small drizzle of honey, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt and whatever chocolate I have laying around. Not as heathy as the original
Version but much better than a typical cookie! Oddly, I really like them chilled from the refrigerator.

  52. I added Splenda and about a quarter of a cup of frozen blueberries and a half tsp of cinnamon! They are delicious❤️

  53. Fantastic, I tried it in my new air fryer. This is definitely a healthy recipe, adding sugar and flour defeats the object – sure you can add what you like just remember the key words are HEALTHY 3-INGREDIENT!!!

Love this recipe.  I added Pumpkin Spice and they were wonderful.   I also crumble them up and use as on topping on my yogurt.

  55. When they say healthy…. They mean healthy lol they turned out fine but honestly pretty bland. I would maybe add sugar in mine next time I try it or at least chocolate chips.

  56. I love how easy these are to make! I like using this as a base recipe. I usually add no sugar added chocolate chips and peanut butter powder.

  57. I thought the natural sweetness of the bananas would be adequate but it’s very bland honestly. Needs a sweetener of some sort for sure. The “cookie dough” was also so runny that I didn’t think it would form cookies so I added 1/4 cup of flour. For anyone that’s planning to try this recipe out, add 1/4 cup of flour as well as sugar/stevia/monk fruit. The sweetness of the bananas cannot be tasted at all in this recipe. I don’t think it was a complete waste tho cuz it provide u a snack with energy & it is healthy. I topped mine with coconut whipped cream. Hope this helps someone.

  58. Man, what gummy “cookies.” The taste was ok and I’m going to eat them (my husband said they were “disgusting.”) These will have to be refrigerated and consumed quickly. Baking them provides a micro-thin crust but the insides are still raw banana, vanilla, cinnamon, and nuts. Nope.

  59. I love this recipe and make it regularly. For me, a pinch of sea salt brings out the flavors. Plus, I am a cinnamon addict so it’s a must. It’s fun to see everyone’s variations in the comments.

  60. Easy and tasty treat. I added vanilla and cinnamon and would consider other mix-ins when I make them in the future.

I really enjoy these cookies. I do add about 4 tiny scoops of better stevia for a little more sweetness. I also add 1 tsp of vanilla, raisins and lately sunflower seed butter along with the finely chopped walnuts. I find I like the chewyness of rolled oats the best.

  62. Really wanted a cookie… found this recipe and got my cookie!!! It is really easy, tasty, healthy and easy to store! I added 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips, cinnamon, and a tbs of brown sugar. All the indulgence without the guilt. Really yummy out of the oven. Another fantastic receipt that keeps me on track with my diet! Skinnytaste, you are the best!!!!

  63. Delicious! I think I’ll add just a sprinkle of brown sugar next time but they’re still good without it!!

    Thank you!

  64. Love these and make them regularly- such an easy and healthy make ahead breakfast. Thanks for all your great recipes!

Great way to use up leftover ripe bananas. Ingredients are readily available in most pantries. My daughter is doing a no refined sugar challenge, so they were great for her. They have a texture similar to oatmeal banana bread. I added cinnamon, but if I made this recipe again I would also add some nutmeg or other spice. I was looking for a crispy texture to satisfy my cookie craving, so these didn’t do it for me. Cooking longer may have helped. Would be easy for an on-the-go breakfast. They are very easy to make and do not spread on the cookie sheet, so a double recipe still fits nicely.

  66. Great, super-easy recipe. Thanks especially to Jo March for the great tip on”ripening” bananas in the oven. Wish I’d known that years ago!

  67. You don’t have to wait until your bananas are ripe. Ripen them yourself by putting them on a cookie sheet in a 300 degree oven for about 10 minutes or until the peels are black. Cool and use.

I couldn’t use nuts for a time so I used sunflower seed butter. They were very tasty.

      2. I added raisins, sugar free apple sauce and 1/3 cup of whole wheat flour and one egg.

  68. This recipe really scratched my cookie itch! I didn’t have over ripened bananas but I subbed the walnuts for a mix of raisins and cranberries instead so they tasted just as sweet. Also added cinnamon and they were perfect.

  69. To eliminate more processed inflammatory foods in our diet, does the oatmeal HAVE to be “quick” oats??  Thank you so much:))

  70. Ok so I’m not an oatmeal eater, I’ve been trying my hardest to add it to my eating habits.  I made these cookies tonight (dbl batch).  Oh boy, they weren’t for me BUT, I will try and make them again and add some dates, vanilla, raisins and/or unsweetened chocolate chips.  My husband said he’ll dunk them in his coffee.

These were really good! Added a little cinnamon to the recipe. Next time I will use super ripe bananas.

  72. Just made these to use up my ripe bananas and they didn’t looked cooked enough so cooked 5 minutes longer so a little darker.  It’s not crisp like a cookie, but do like them and especially that they are healthier to have with my coffee! I just added some cinnamon but will add vanilla next time as like that. Thanks Gina!

  73. These cookies were so good. I added a little honey and shredded coconut and they were so yummy. Kinda like banana bread cookies. I kept them in the fridge and they stayed till they were all done, at least a few days. Awesome recipe!

  74. This is my new favorite snack. On my personal plan, I have free oatmeal and fruit. The walnuts are 6 points. 1 point for 2 cookies on my plan.

  75. I just made these cookies exactly like the recipe said, except I added a few organic 100% cacao chips (unsweetened) from Trader Joe’s. They were delish!! The cacao tastes sweetened with the banana. I will make a double batch next time. Thanks for the recipe!

  76. Very good!!! Had 3 bananas so just increased the oats (1 1/2C) & nuts (3/4C) Great snack, cannot wait to share w/my WW friends

  77. I love the cookies! I add Lily’s S/F chocolate chips. Store leftovers in fridge or freezer. Gina or anyone, do you recommend a way to reheat them that doesn’t make them rubbery/dry? I still like them at room temp, but love them warm out of the oven. I have tried reheating, but don’t love the texture. I know leftovers can’t be the same as fresh baked, but trying to get cho a close. Any recommendations appreciated!

    1. Make “now” cookies that are thoroughly cooked. The rest should only be partially cooked, or, preferably, not cooked, at all. Add some time, and cook your cold cookie dough, instead of reheating!

  78. I have made these cookies 3 times now! I keep them in the freezer. I add protein powder, vanilla, cinnamon and monk fruit. These. Are. Delicious.

    1. How much protein powder do you add? I’m making these now for my high school boys as a breakfast add on or snack before football/band. They could use the extra protein. Thanks!

These cookies are absolutely delicious..you can even make amd bake them in a semi truck!! 🚛🚛

  80. These are great snack cookies.  First time made as written and then second batch I left out nuts and added 2 tablespoons chopped dried cranberries and 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar.  This actually reduced the overall calories.   This is a definite keeper and lends itself well to multiple variations.

  81. I made these but added: 1/4c light brown sugar, 1/4tsp vanilla extract, 1/2tsp cinnamon and 1/4c mini chocolate chips. Came out good! Soft texture but good taste.

  82. Tried these this morning and I did not add anything. I think I would add cinnamon and maybe a little peanut butter. Still a great healthy snack

I do not see points for the blue, purple, green??? I see SP points only.

  83. These are my go-to cookie when I need something that isn’t full of butter and sugar. I don’t add nuts, but put cinnamon in instead…not sure how much, but I’m very liberal with it. I store them in a ziplock, which has always kept them fresh. The part of these cookies: they are guilt-free.

  84. Perfect with or without nuts. I have also added rasins or chocolate chips. I always add cinnamon and a small amount of vanilla so it makes my kitchen smell like banana bread. But seriously these cookies are a weekly make in our home. My 2 year olds love them as do my husband and I. Best kept in the I fridge from my experience.

GREAT recipe. Simple, healthy and delectable!! Perfect as is but I’m a vanilla freak so I tried it with some and yum yum as well. Thank you – my new favorite cookie.

  86. Could you please indicate how to store these as well as the pb and jelly cookies as part of the instructions? I don’t have time to read through all of the comments and your replies hoping to find the answer.  They are delicious and my family loves them! Thank you so much!

These cookies were more like mini muffins but we thought they were delicious as well as quick to make and healthy!  I added a tablespoon of sugar free granola and that was good. Will def make them again but might add some chic chips or sprinkle of cinnamon as a variation.

  89. Best warm, but rather blah in taste. I tried adding a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice the second time, which helped a little. After a few days they have an almost rancid taste; I threw them out. Maybe they need to be refrigerated. I like the idea that there is not added sugar or fat, but I will not make again. I’d rather just eat a banana and some nuts.

  90. Sooo…last week ordered online groceries from Publix, first time. Ordered 5 bananas…got 5 bunches 😂. After making & freezing chocolate  covered banana bites, plain banana bites and quartered bananas for smoothies, had several left. Yesterday the four remaining very ripe ones were used in this recipe. Bananas, oats, peanut butter, raisins and vanilla.  Really good!

      1. Made these tonight…. well this morning… (it’s 12:15 a.m. here in Houston) and OMG they are terrible! Lol! I don’t think it’s the recipe at all, just my taste buds really. And I used pecans instead of walnuts. I am so addicted to sugar, that these are NOT a win in my book right now, except for if I could add a little stevia or swerve to the mix. (2nd try 10 minutes later)….OKAY, so I let them cool and they taste a tiny bit better. Not bad. I will make again. And I will use walnuts. Thanks for such an easy and “not so bad” oatmeal cookie recipe for those of us struggling to kick the sugar bum out!

  91. So- I had 2 ripe bananas no quick oats but had 4 packets of instant oatmeal no sugar apple cinnamon flavor.  Yes!!!!! And they came out amazing and crispier than usual ! I checked w Gina she said I could tell you all about my pantry social distancing surprise but sorry I have no points calculated! Trust me – Delish!!!!!

  92. I’m not sure who gave this recipe so many stars but it was not very good. Disappointing since most skinnytaste recipes are great.

  93. Love this healthy cookie! I don’t like anything too sweet so this recipe is perfect for me. I also add shredded coconut which is a nice addition. My daughter in-law adds chocolate chips. Either way is good and works for us on the WW plan.

Sorry, but I did not like this recipe at all nor did my husband. Won’t make this again

    1. Love this healthy cookie! I don’t like anything too sweet so this recipe is perfect for me. I also add shredded coconut which is a nice addition. My daughter in-law adds chocolate chips. Either way is good and works for us on the WW plan.

  95. Myself and my 7yr old loved these. We did however add 2 spoonfuls of peanut butter and a small handful of choc chips. I like these cookies, compared to other similar versions, is the crunch from the walnuts.

Recommendation: You could also sub. the walnuts for seeds to make a school friendly version.
We’ll definitely make these on a regular basis. It’s basically like eating a few slices of banana, some nuts and a handful of oats – simple and healthy – but not very exciting. Make them into cookies and it’s like you’re having a treat!

  96. I add peanut butter and dark chocolate chips…. delicious 😋 and some times I add apple sauce and cinnamon and walnuts that’s also delicious 🤤 thank you for this yummy recipe

Really easy and yummy! I added 1/4 teas cinnamon, and 1/2 teas vanilla and next time I’ll add some flax for more fiber and protein. Would be good with pumpkin pie spice too! Shared recipe with friends and have had two made this weekend and they both liked too!

  98. These are a Healthy Delicious cookie! So easy to make! My husband just loved them! Two thumbs up! 👍👍

I made it with 2 tbsp natural peanut butter mixed in instead of walnuts. Also I put it in a muffin tin 1 muffin = 4 FS points

  100. Amazing! I added a splash of vanilla a few mini chocolate chips and just a little chopped up unsweetened coconut. The best part is they only take a few minutes to whip up! Thanks Gina!

  101. This is an amazing recipe! Actually fun to make (after mashing bananas and adding oats and cinnamon, I love to just combine with my hands. Sticky and soothing). I add cocoa nibs, in this recipe cocoa nibs are quite good and remind you of chocolate (instead of just, you know, Bitter Hell). And healthy of course.
Just like other people I couldn’t get 16 cookies out of these (just 11, 12) but it’s fine. Love to make double batches, freeze some and have another few as a healthy snack every now and then!!!!! So happy

  102. I’m not a huge fan of banana’s so is there other ways to make these? Any suggestions would be great!!  Thanks

    1. I wonder if applesauce would be a good alternative. Or a whole apple blended right from a blender. If anything, after its cooked it would make great granola to mix in yogurt.

  106. I made these and they were super easy and delicious. I brought them to a function and they were a big hit. People couldn’t believe they were so healthy. Lol. I followed the recipe mostly. I added in 2tsp chia seeds and drizzled with melted chocolate after they came out of the oven. Definitely something you could add your own favorite mix-ins like previous commenters stated. Thank you for a delicious, simple AND healthy recipe!

      1. I can not live without these cookies! Its so perfect when you need a quick snack, as a breakfast or even as a protein “bar”.
I put inside some mini chocolat Chip, some that i Cut very small ( so people think that it is raisin lol) and some ground flax seed.
        It goes soooo fast!
        Thanks A LOT!

Didn’t have quite enough quick oats so added about a qtr cup Irish steel cut oats, some cinnamon, and an egg.  They were delicious and had a little crunchy consistency…don’t know if this is normal or due to the steel cut oats.  Will def make these again.

Can anything be substituted in many of your snack cookie recipes other than banana? These all look so good but I’m allergic to bananas :'(

  119. Love these – and I usually hate things like this! Most important thing is to go into these knowing they have the consistency of banana bread rather than true cookies, so as long as you are not expecting a cookie texture, they are delicious. Tried them with mini chocolate chips and tonight I am going to try walnuts. Thanks for a great week-day dessert recipe!

  120. okay, amazing! Been tryung to eat healthy and needed something to satisfy my sweet tooth. I used wheat oats, the bananas, walnuts, added almonds, and a couple of chocolate chips, and sprinkled the top with coconut. Super yummy, thanks!

  121. I had no almonds instead,I used grated, roasted coconuts and raisins….it turned out well.. too delicious!

Wow! Finally I got a web site from where I can actually
take useful data regarding my study and knowledge.

  124. These are the best little cookies. I make them at least 2 times per week. I have two little nephews (8 and 5) who fight over these! If one eats them all I have to make another batch. Even if they eat them ALL they are eating bananas, oats, and just a little chocolate chips.

  125. My name is Kathy and I live in SE Georgia. My diabetic clinician gave me your site "address" for good healthy and easy recipes. I have printed out several and only had my appointment this morning 12/29/2014…. I love the ones that can be made ahead of time and then used as "grab 'n go" meals on the run. I leave for work at 6:15 and sometimes have very little time for meals so your site has been a well of information for my health matters. Thank you for all you've done and sharing the fruits of your labors. Blessings

  126. Wasn't a big fan of these. I love oatmeal with bananas, so I made them with that and a couple tablespoons of mini chocolate chips. I didn't like the texture at all – too gummy/pasty tasting and I realize after reading more comments this was to be expected. I guess what my brain expected =/= what this recipe is about. Thanks anyway!

  127. Hi There, these look great.. I see your comments said "best out of the oven" are they okay for a few days or better on the first day?

  128. I just made those cookies for the third time.
1st try some weeks ago was alright, I think I just used banana, oats and some chopped hazelnuts. Also, I only made half and I ended up eating the whole batch in one afternoon. Not soo healthy, either 😀
2nd try two weeks ago: I used oats, bananas, some flaxseed, pine kernels and raisins
3rd try just half an hour ago: oats, bananas, chocolate chips (a lot in comparison to the dough, probably like 40g) and some flaxseed & sesame seed.

I personally liked my second try the best. I really love chocolate but a) you can't taste the bananas so much anymore 🙁 and b) it turns the "healthy" cookies into some kind of chocolate treat. I guess adding chocolate chips doesn't add too many calories but it's more of a psychological thing. Without chocolate it's more like a healthy cereal bar, with chocolate I treat them psychologically like cookies. Also, the raisins were really nice, they added some additional sweetness but weren't too sweet 🙂
Anyways, this is my favourite cookie recipe because it's so easy and they are basically my breakfast (banana oatmeal) in cookie shape 🙂

  129. Not a very tasty cookie and very bland. I added extra ingredients to my second batch: 4 tsp of baking Splenda, another banana and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. Much better. It's not like eating a scrumptious oatmeal cookie with all the calories, but it will satisfy my sweet tooth. 😉

  130. I made these last night along side the traditional chocolate chip cookies I made for my husband. They did the trick to solve my cravings for choc chip cookies and keep my on track for WW. Recipes like yours Gina are such a blessing for me as I come down the homestretch to lose my last 10lbs!

  131. I made a variation that is similar, but I added honey, used granola instead of oatmeal and added flax seeds and peanut butter. Loaded with protein so they fit hunger for several hours.

  132. I added dried, no sugar added dates in place of nuts or chocolate chips, any idea what the pp+ would be?

  133. I look forward to trying these! They seem fairly guilt-free, for a cookie anyway.

  134. I have never met you….but I LOVE YOU!!!! This will be an amazing breakfast food for my early bird kids. I have been buying protein bars and they gobble them up in a hurry before school! they get pretty expensive at 80 cents per bar, multiply that by 3 every day. I'm tired of cereals and all the carbs, eggs are great but they are too young to cook yet. These will be great as they need no refrigeration, I just whipped up a few batches as soon as I saw this because I had some bananas waiting to be made into bread which I dreaded because we just eat and eat and eat the bread. The first batch I made with just the three ingredients. In the second batch I added some craisins and sprinkled some ground cinnamon on top, and the third batch I sprinkled a few chocolate chips in. My very picky kids LOVE THEM!!! I could kiss you……..You are my HERO!!!

Gina, can you freeze the cookies? I live alone, and I figure if I make a bunch and freeze this way I don't have to eat them every day for a week!

  136. My two year old grandson loved them – I made the ones with oats, bananas and raisins. Then, my husband wondered why I didn't make him any so I had to make more. LOL. I still have two test them on my teenage kids.

Just made these tonight!! I added almonds and a drop of agave…..amazingggg!!!! I plan to make these weekly for a healthy, guilt free treat!!! I wish more recipes were simple and completely natural like this one. Butter is so unnecessary…..

  139. How much banana is used in the recipe(2 bananas worth)? I need to substitute pumpkin or applesauce for the bananas, but I don't know how much. I'm allergic, so I don't have any in the house to experiment on and find out

    1. 2 bananas equal 2/3 cup.. Generally it is said that there are 3 bananas per cup.. Bananas are sweeter than pumpkin and unsweetened apple sauce you may have to adjust the sweetness in your batch.. Good luck!

I've made these cookies twice so far and my son who says "I hate bananas" loves them and he knows exactly what is in them.

I did try them with rolled oats (versus quick) the second time and the kids had no problems (I rarely have quick oats on hand). I have also learned the way to get the child who hates bananas to eat them, is to add about 2 T of mini-chocolate chips. I also tried them the second time with peanuts and the kids loved them.

So easy and simple to make and to make them last, I will freeze them and pull out as needed for the 4 and 6-year-old lunches.

Am I the only one who cannot for the life of me get this recipe to make 16 cookies? Mine makes 11… 12 TOPS! Even then they are really really small. I LOVED them thought! Totally yummy!

      1. It might be because of the size of the bananas. I just made them and used a slightly rounded tablespoon and I got 19 cookies.

    1. Delicious and healthy cookie recipe!! I love the simplicity and so easy so modify with mix-ins, I like adding walnuts, dried cherries and chocolate chips.

  143. Thanks for the recipe, these came out great! I love how versatile it is, you can add different things and try different combinations. Made these for a vegan house guest and ended up eating most of them myself! Def yummy with some chocolate chips too. I ate a couple for breakfast!

I made several batches of these over the weekend (Saturday). We like banana bread, and these really reminded us of that. I made the recipe above and also some with chocolate chips instead. We liked both but by tuesday all the remaining cookies molded! I like to do serveral batches at one time and put them in my cookie jar, but unless I can freeze these cookies, that won't work. The cookies were nice and moist days later…probably why they molded so fast 🙂 I will try freezing some to see if that works at some point.

I made some GF ones that I sent home with friends, which didn't have the best consistancy…they were much more sticky after baked. The non GF ones were much better if you don't have to go that route.

I’m not much of a baker. What are crushed walnuts? Chopped? Ground?  Please help! Thanks!

      2. @ Elizabeth Koch
        – crushed walnuts are basically small pieces of the who walnut, either chopped with a knife or put in a bag and smash with a rolling pin, a steak tenderizer or if you don’t have those the bottom or a cup, a spoon or your hand. I wouldn’t ground them as you miss out on the crunchy texture.

    1. I added hemp hearts – very high in protein and adds a nutty flavor. I use the hemp hearts on ice cream too!

I just whipped up a quick 1/2 batch of these and they were so good! Love having a healthy and QUICK snack.

  146. I've made these with bananas as per the recipe with the addition of cinnamon and vanilla essence. I also made them one time substituting the bananas with grated carrots because I didn't have any bananas and added a bit of milk to get the right consistency. The banana ones win hands down out of the two but the carrot ones were a nice change. I'm quite sure I didn't add any sugar to the mix for the carrots either. Get creative guys and share your changes.

    😀

  147. Baking these right now. Shredded up a Hersey W/Almond bar and put it in part for the kids. Did mine with just bananas and oats.

  148. I may have gone past this question, but how would a chocolate flavor work here ? What would be best to use ? Regular Cocoa powder, or what ? Thx for any suggestions !

  151. i have a batch in the oven. my modifications were to add a scoop of chocolate whey protein powder (100 calories; 6 additional cal per cookie), some cinnamon and almonds instead of walnuts (what was in my pantry). I hope to have these as a quick after workout snack.

I was thinking about the calories too, there are like 95-135 calories in a single banana according to http://www.calories-in-foods.com/calories-in-banana.php, just seems like there would more than likely be more in total for the cookies?

  153. i have a batch in the oven…i added one scoop of chocolate whey protein powder, cinnamon and subbed raw almonds (not walnuts on hand). the protein adds 100 calories to the recipe, which for 16 cookies is almost nothing. I wanted these for a quick, travel-ready, post-work out snack.

  154. Great recipe, thanks! My wife is a chocolate addict so I added 2 Tbsp of cocoa powder to this recipe. The banana is sweet enough to balance the cocoa. On one occasion I did add an additional 2 Tbsp of Splenda with the cocoa, but it wasn't really necessary.

  155. Loved these!! I had to flatten them at the end because they stayed in a ball shape….perhaps I used too much oatmeal. Delicious regardless. Thank you!!

  157. Made these this morning. Not bad. It was missing something though. Next time I will add some Splenda and pinch of salt. Would the points change for that?

  158. I made these and they taste really good, but I found that the outside of the cookie got a little tough and chewy while the inside didn't seem to want to cook. Any suggestions?

  161. This is seriously one of my new favorite recipes for a little treat. I've been dieting since having my first child, and these are perfect to get me through those times when I want a cookie!

I like to add a touch of cinnamon and some raisins too. Yummy! Thanks for sharing this recipe with us!

  168. Mine weren't as pretty as yours, but they tasted yummy! I cut the recipe in half, but i dont think my single banana was enough for all the oats. Guess it was too small. Oh well, still good!

  169. O EM GEE!! I may never go back to regular cookies again!!

I JUST baked these and my gosh… I can't stop eating them!

I used 2 bananas, quick oatmeal, slivered almonds and raisins. Taste bud heaven, seriously.

*sigh* , just read through most of these comments and I guess I am alone in my opinion about these cookies..

First, let me say that I LOVE this site. I LOVE every dinner recipe I have made (and I have made a bunch.) I LOVE the photos and the organization of the site.

And when I saw this recipe, I was sure I would LOVE these cookies. I did not. My cookies turned out bland and a bit rubbery. I made them with the walnuts and for half the batch I added some Pumpkin Pie spice just to experiment. I even tried sprinkling the tops of them with cinnamon sugar (which sort of negates the healthi-ness of them – but I was desperate!!) 🙂

So I came back to this posting to see if I missed something (with only 3 ingredients I couldn't imagine what I had missed). And I read the comments. Apparently I am alone in this …

HOWEVER, in reading the comments, I did get a few ideas of how this might be improved … protein powder and pb2 sounded promising. I am game for trying it again.

Just made these and they were great! Can't wait to experiment, they are screaming for raisins. I added 1 tablespoon of agave.
Will try a little brown sugar next time. Thanks for posting!

  180. I can't wait to try this recipe. I am always looking for new recipes, and since I have a sweet tooth this fits the bill. I have given this recipe to several people and I'm waiting to hear feedback from them. I look to your website for healthy and good recipes. Thanks Gina for coming up with good recipes.

  181. hi! this is the first time I read your blog and will most def try out this recipe. have a dumb question though: when the serving size says 2 and servings 8 does it mean it's altogether 16 cookies and 93 calories in 2 cookies or 93 cal in 1 cookie?

  182. These are amazing. I added chcocoate chips and cinnamon and left out the walnuts. I will be making loads of these and gonna freeze them. So healthy and so delish! Great snack before the gym too.

  183. Just made these -so yummy! I'm not a WW follower, so the points matter not to me! I weight train 4 days a week & do cardio 5 to 6 days a week. I just put mine in a small air-tight container and the last 2 were just as good 3 days later!!

  185. Made these the other day and they're absolutely great. I never have time to eat breakfast and usually resort to buying grocery store bars of some type that have more fat and sugar than is really necessary for an on-the-go breakfast. These have just a touch of sweetness from the bananas (make sure they're really ripe). They're more of a bite size cookie, so next time I'm going to double the recipe.

  186. I just made these and the flavor reminds me of baked bananas without the brown sugar, not as sweet but still good. I think a bit of vanilla and maybe a pinch of salt will add depth of flavor. I have some no-sugar added homemade apple butter that i think may be a really tasty variation. The best part about this recipe is that I have finally found a healthy way to add oatmeal to my diet. I really detest oatmeal as a cereal any way I have ever tried it – until this recipe. Hmmm, think I will make some with applebutter now and see how I like them…

They are so good! Thank you for this recipe! Everyone except my 2 year old loved them! (I just called them "Banana cookies"). And in my house, that is saying something for my cookie-loving family! Will try them half with chocolate chips and walnuts like someone suggested earlier!!

  188. These were ok. I thought they lacked flavor (i even added brown sugar and vanilla extract). They are easy to make, but for a little extra effort you could make the banana bread recipe on this site (which is delicious).

  189. I made these last night for my family and they were definitely a hit! I subbed rolled oats for quick oats and added chocolate chips instead of walnuts. I also did what someone mentioned above and added a half teaspoon of cinnamon and vanilla. They were perfect!

  190. These are in the oven now… I love the few ingredients! I did 1/8 cup walnuts and 1/8 cup chocolate chips, hope they turn out yummy… also, I read too quickly and thought it made SIX cookies, so mine are going to be HUGE! Thanks for the easy recipe!

  191. How many calories are you counting for the bananas? Everytime I calculate this out my calories are much higher

  192. I made these but found they weren't as big as the ones shown in the picture. Any ideas why? I'm new to baking & it's so frustrating b/c I'm not getting the results I expect to get.

Use a bigger spoon or flatten them slightly with the back of the spoon. These cookies will not spread.

  193. I made these but didn't have walnuts so I made them with mini chocolate chips. They were good but almost too dry maybe my bananas weren't ripe enough or I didn't use big enough ones?? I will make these again.

  194. I gave up wheat for Lent, so I have been fiending for a cookie! I only had one ripe banana, so I subbed equal amount of pumpkin, and added pecans, chocolate chips, and a bit of pumpkin pie spice. I had to cook them an extra 5 minutes and they are still a bit mushy and round, but the kid and hubby liked them! I think I also needed to chop the pecans and chocolate, that may have helped. A bit too banana-y for me, but I still ate two and enjoyed it! Great recipe, thanks

Have my batch in the oven right now, I used 2 1/2 bananas (I already used 1/2 of one for my smoothie) about 1/8 cup mini chocolate chips, 1 1/4 cup old fashioned oats, 1/4 tsp vanilla and a few dashes of cinnamon, I hope they turn out as awesome as the smell already! It looks like it's going to yield about 25 cookies, I'm going to try to store them in a ziploc freezer bag with a slice of bread to keep them chewy and moist 🙂

  196. I just made these and substituted quick oats for steel cut oats (Bob's Red Mill) and increased the number of bananas to 4. YUMMY! I love your recipes!

  197. maybe when you sub in apple sauce maybe try some small chopped apple chunks too and a dash of cinnamon

i am looking for low cholesterol cookies!

  200. I have a question…I added these to my WW recipe builder and my points+ total came back as 3 pts. for 2 cookies (used mini choc. chips like you suggested). Any reason why that would be? Is it because of the type of qc oats I used? I was really excited about the prospect of a 1pt. cookie 🙁

  201. Yum!! I added 1/2 t cinnamon and 1/2 t vanilla extract. Very tasty, and super easy. I also didn't have mini chocolate chips, so I chopped up some regular chocolate chips. Gina, you've done it again!

  202. Well now I am really confused. My points plus calculater comes up with 3 points plus for 2 cookies. They do sound good so I will be trying them.

  203. after having read all these comments about the bananas – I almost hate to ask this question. since I mash my bananas and then freeze them, I wonder how many cups of mashed bananas this recipe takes. Sorry for such a silly question, but the comments about mushy cookies; or dry cookies certainly is as a result of the amt. of bananas. Thank you.

  205. I think maybe my bananas were too big mine are very mushy inside but the taste is great! I set my batter out for a while in hopes the oats will soak up some and mine the rest will be more chewy and cookie like!

  206. Love Them! Even my 6 year old daughter "liked" them and she doesn't like anything. I added cinnamon and used Almonds since I was out of walnuts. Yummy and simple!

  207. Great healthy alternative. I made mine with flax seeds instead of walnuts so my kids to can take them to school (nut free policy at their school).

  208. Just made these! Amazing! I wonder if you could make a similar cookie using canned pumpkin? It has a similar consistency to mashed bananas….

Made these this morning with old fashioned Q oats and they turned out AMAZING! What a great treat. My three year old son loves them, too! Thank you…AGAIN!

  210. So excited about the possibilities here! I had these in the oven about 2 minutes after reading the post. I think they were a little too banana-y, so I'll follow some other suggestions of subbing applesauce for some of the banana. So many add-in possibilities! Unfortunately, my kids hated them, but they hate everything.

  211. These would be an excellent, healthy treat to bring along when taking a meal to new mom or a friend in need. Love your recipes!

  212. These look fabulous! Plus I love that they are so healthy. I might need to add a handfull of mini chocolate chips to the batter though! 🙂

Made these last night. I added choc chips instead of walnuts and 2 tbsp of cocoa powder and 1 tsp Splenda… they are awesome! Had 2 last night and just had 2 for breakfast. My husband called them "chocolate chip banana bread bites" because that is more what they are like than cookies. A nice treat!

  214. My friend gave my a similar recipe that included cinnamon, nutmeg, and applesauce for a moist texture. One can freeze the cookies, take two out in the morning, spread peanut butter on them for extra protein, heat them, and then enjoy.

  215. I work at a Hotel, and we have to have banana's everyday for our deluxe breakfast in the morning. So the employee's can take home the over ripe and spotted banana's!! I have several zip bags of banana's in the freezer right now!! To help against your banana's getting freezer burn, I use the FOOD SAVER machine!! My banana's stay longer with this wonderful machine!!

  216. I made them with bananas (for me!) and with applesauce and chocolate chips for the kids, they turned out great! Thank you!

  217. Just made these with a few changes. Not crazy about bananas so I use 1 banana and 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce 1T of better n peanut butter chopped walnuts nice texture and yummy!

  218. thanks! these were so easy and good. i added walnuts and choco chips. i served the plate to the boyfriend and went to clean up in the kitchen. when i came out, they were already half gone! great treat to satisfy a sweet craving

  219. For those that have actually made these, what was the texture of the cookies? A friend just tried to make them and hers came out gummy. Are they good if they are cold? Thanks

    1. Not as good cold. Great straight out of the oven. I like them best with big banana hunks and cinnamon. If they fall apart, oh well!

  220. Just made these although I substituted almonds for the walnuts cause I didn't have any in the house. I also added some mini dark chocolate chips cause I was craving some chocolate. These are fantastic and will definitely be making them again!!!!

  221. Just made two batches of these cookies! One with the walnuts & one with mini choc chips! They are excellent & just right for my husband & I to have an afternoon snack with coffee. Fits right into our WW program! Thanks for the recipe!

  223. I just made these with Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Oats (rolled oats, not quick cooking) and they turned out just fine. I added a tablespoon of cocoa powder and a smidge of maple syrup to make them slightly sweeter. We were really surprised at how good they are!

  224. These are delicious! I added a tablespoon of PB2 and a handful of mini chocolate chips, and they certainly calmed my sweet craving after dinner. The best part is how filling they are…impossible to over-indulge!

I made these tonight & they are really good. We are having a playdate with my daughter's friends tomorrow. So I did bananas, oats & choc chips. A few of her friends have nut allergies. I will try these with nuts for us sometime.

  226. OMG!! these look really good!! gotta try them!!!

The simplest things are always the sweetest things. Fact. In this case I mean it in the most literal sense.

  229. I can't wait to make these! Thank you Gina for your wonderful blog! I have tried many of your recipes and they all a big hit! I love that you even include the points for those of us on Weight Watchers! Keep up the great work!

  230. Here's a quick tip. If you don't have any ripe bananas, you can bake your bananas in the oven for at 300 degrees for about an hour until the peel is very dark brown/black. The banana inside is amazing! It's very sweet and caramelized. This won't work for completely green bananas. The banana needs to be mostly yellow.
I got this tip from Cook's Illustrated. They use this technique in their banana bread recipe.

This is great! I make a "baby friendly" version of this for my daughter (10 months old) without the nuts! It's probably one of the more popular posts on my blog too ( ourgfreelife.com ). But I never thought of doing this with nuts or chocolate. Next time I'll do half a batch for her, and an even yummier batch for us. Banana is such a great natural sweetener when cooked!

  232. You say 1 point+ in the write-up and then at the top of the recipe, it says 2 points+.
Can you please clarify? They sound wonderful!

  233. I have made these with rolled oats and the oats soften up just fine. My one year old loves them, so do I! We like them with a bit of honey, cinnamon, and dried fruit mixed in.

  234. Hi, if I add slivered almonds instead of walnuts, can I or do I need to add a little almond extract?

  235. Gina –
Thanks so much for posting about our cookies! I actually love your site and already have lots of your recipes pined – just made the chicken enchilada soup for dinner three nights ago!

I'm a peanut butter freak. haha I make little heart shaped oatmeal cakes from banana, peanut butter, an egg, oatmeal, flax seed, and a little cinnamon and vanilla. These also look good. I'll have to give them a try.

  238. "The cookies are best right out of the oven, they are soft and chewy ………"
Assuming no one eats ALL of the cookies immediately after baking them,
what are they like in a day or two?

Are they palatable hot tea-coffee dunkers or inedible paper weights?

I actually cannot wait to make this! Especially, since I've been craving cookies a lot recently (and been eating a lot of the "bad" ones).

  240. Can't wait to make these. I'm not a baker because of the whole measuring thing, lol, but I think I can actually do these. I am also going to try adding PB2 to a batch.

  241. Just wondering if anyone has made these with GF oats? I tried a couple similar recipes in the last couple weeks and they were major flops with the GF oats. Something about them is just *different*. 🙁 But thanks for all the great recipes…I love this site!!!

Oh the possibility with these, healthy, versatile and satisfies my sweet tooth! Have you tried my one-ingrediant soft serve? Another great idea for bananas! http://eating-made-easy.com/2012/04/11/one-ingredient-soft-serve/

  243. I'm going to make these tomorrow, but I'll use pumpkin puree instead of banana & add in some pumpkin pie spice & chocolate chips! Pumpkin puree has less sugar, and lots of fibre! I might have to add a little agave or stevia to make up for the sweetness that the bananas would give, but I can't wait to make these! I'm reading this while in bed, about to go to sleep and I want to get up to go make them right now! 🙂

  245. Oh my goodness! We just made these and we added a small handful of semi-sweet chips and a tiny bag of pepitas I had in the pantry. YUMMY! Love the crunch pepitas gave to it, got me to thinking that these made with pumpkin butter would be scrumptious!!

Glad you liked them! I was so excited to see these up. I can't stop making these. literally… new addiction. Walmart can't carry enough bananas to feed my craving!

  247. So excited I saw this today! I was trying to figure out what to do with my banana that was easy! Gonna do chocolate chips instead of walnuts since hubby is allergic! So excited!

  248. Here comes another nitpicky can't-have-that-er…

What could I use instead of the oats? no carbohydrates for me…

    1. How about flax meal? I think that might work nicely, but it would probably up the Points Plus Value, but it would only be with healthy fats! You could also try unsweetened shredded coconut, or almond flour! 🙂

  249. Fantastic! Very yummy – I didn't have any walnuts but did have choc chips – I all mine the naughty version :-S

  250. I happened to have tons of bananas that were overripe so I made 1 batch plain banana and oatmeal and I made another batch with 2 tbsp peanut butter. For both recipes, I got 21 cookies. Great nutritional stats (25 calories w/ no PB, 36 calories w/ PB). I like the consistency of the peanut butter ones better – wetter batter and more cookie-like. These are great for breakfast or a healthy snack, but I have an insane love of oatmeal cookies and was hoping it would fit the bill as a healthier oatmeal cookie but they didn't:( Nonetheless I made a bunch and will definitely make more in the future 🙂

Pamela, I was thinking about adding some raisins, cinnamon, a dash of salt… maybe that would give you more of the oatmeal cookie flavor you were looking for… I've had more than a dozen possible add-ins come to mind… now I've got to get some bananas…

  251. Made these with pecans and almonds instead because I didn't have any walnuts and added a dash of vanilla. They are ridiculously easy to make and sooooo tasty! Another winner!

  252. I made these a couple weeks ago, adding an egg, two scoops of protein powder, and some pb2 they make an awesome pre-workout snack (with protein!)

  253. I only have rolled oats and I really want to make these tonight..should I use one cup as well and leave in the oven a little longer???

  254. Just gave it a try and they were yummy. The banana flavor is very strong. I couldn't have more than two which is good for my points! We added chocolate chips too!

  255. We ate the last ripe banana at breakfast. Can't wait to try these out in a couple of days! I have a sweet tooth and I'm always looking for healthier alternatives. Thanks!

  256. I to the basic two ingredients I added 2T of cocoa powder, dash of salt, 1 t vanilla extract and 1/4 C semi sweet choc chips and the result was 1 P+ deliciousness. Chocolate banana! Yum

  257. Just made these! Soo good. With some chocolate chips and a dash of cinnamon? Amazing. I added an extra half of banana to give it some more banana taste, but it made them a little too squishy.

  258. Just made these cookies with 1/4 mixed nuts that i crushed and a 1/4 dark chocolate chips. I wanted to like them more than I did. Kinda gummy!

You have to keep in mind there's no butter, oil, eggs, baking soda, etc. I do have other oatmeal cookies on my site that you may like if you want a crispier texture.

  259. YUM! Just took these out of the oven, and they are so tasty! I saw this recipe this morning, and happen to have ripe bananas, so I whipped them up right away. I added chocolate chips instead of nuts and 1 tbsp peanut butter. They made my house smell delicious. They made exactly 16 cookies. I'll be eating them non stop for the next couple of days.

  260. yummy. just made these — well sort of. I only had 1 ripe banana and I only wanted to make a few cookies. I don't eat grain so I used 3 tablespoons of flax meal and 1.5 tablespoons of coconut flour. Bit of water, almonds. They were very tasty and will easily satisfy a sweet tooth.

  261. Has anyone tried baking these in an 8 x 8 baking pan? I think they would be kinda like bars or something

  262. I just made your other banana cookie recipe last night they are all gone! So do these taste as good as those because there's alot of ingredients in that one and I am doubling the batch today so 3 ingredients would be alot easier!?!

There is something quite exciting that happens everytime I read the word "Healthy Cookies". Talk about Oxymoron! This recipe looks great! I think I would possibly add some dried cranberries for some extra sweetness too!

  270. You might try subbing unsweetened applesauce for the banana if you are not a huge banana lover (like I am not). But I'm sure you may have to add a bit more of the quick oats because the applesauce would probably be runnier than mashed banana. I think an apple cinnamon oatmeal cookie with walnuts sounds fabulous!

  271. Gah! Never mind. They are not 4 points for 5. I messed up! They are 1 point a piece though! Sorry for the mix up.

  272. I add egg whites (more protein) pumpkin pie spice, and dried cranberries, but I use old fashioned rolled oats. Am considering adding cooked quinoa.

  273. To the person who posted that they are 2 pts a peice…..When you type in an ingredient into the recipe builder, it will come up, for example, quick oats 1/4 cup. When you click on that, if you are not careful, it actually will come up 1 cup and you have to change the measurement. These are indeed 1 pt per cookie. Thanks Gina! They look awesome and I can't wait to make them!

    1. Sayda….Thank you for pointing that out to me. My recipe builder was indeed adding 1 whole cup of walnuts, though I chose a 1/4. They are one point each! Now I wonder how often I have had this mistake happen in the dozens of recipes I added to my builder….I might have to sit here today and go through them all…I may have been cheating myself! Thank you again for pointing this out, I had no idea!

  274. these remind me of a cookie version of the oatmeal cupcakes that chocolate covered katie has on her blog, have you checked those out Gina? So good and healthy! Can't wait to make these cookies, they are perfect for an easy on the go snack! complex carbs, protein from nuts, natural sugars and vitamins/minerals from the banana – sounds like a great after gym snack!

  275. Would they still turn out if you don't use the nuts or use another kind of nuts? I am allergic to walnuts and pecans. Thanks!

  276. I think dried cranberries added to these would be great and maybe pecans instead of walnuts or slivered almonds. I did not know that oatmeal had gluten in them. I have several family members that are gluten free.

    1. Avatar photo
      Gina @ Skinnytaste

Oatmeal is often processed in the same facilities where they process wheat, so there is cross contamination. Always read the label.

      1. FYI, contamination often happens in the field, even before harvest. When you plant a field of oats, a tiny number of the seeds you sow may be wheat! Wheat can also be brought in by animals or on equipment and grow in an oat field.

Oats are gluten free, but most oats are cross contaminated with gluten from other grains during processing, but it's easy to find GF oats like Bob's Red Mill.

I love making cookies with too-ripe bananas! I bet these would be really good with some a few dark chocolate chips mixed in!! Yum

  280. When I plugged these ingredients into my online WW's recipe builder and divided it by 16 servings, it equals 2 points plus for ONE cookie. They look amazing and I can not wait to make them!

    1. Actually Gina, I apologize! I am wrong… commenter Sayda pointed out to me that I might not have been careful with adding my ingredients to the recipe builder and when i went back and checked, she was right! My recipe builder was indeed adding 1 whole cup of walnuts, though I chose a 1/4. They are one point each! Even if you use extra large bananas… Now I wonder how often I have had this mistake happen in the dozens of recipes I added to my builder….I might have to sit here today and go through them all…I may have been cheating myself! Sorry for causing a ruckus on your post…:-(

  281. Alot of your receipes you use banannas is there something else i can use instead of them. i am allergic to banannas . thank you love your website .. have been followin over a year now ..

    1. A recipe I use a lot that calls for mashed bananas states you can subbed pumpkin puree for the bananas (1 cup to 1 cup). Maybe that?

    2. Yes pumpkin is the best sub for banana! I have subbed it many times for recipes and usually does not have a pumpkin taste after baking =)

    3. Seems that the problem with that is that pumpkin puree isn't sweet and the only thing about this recipe that's sweet is the bananas. So it would taste kinda bland!

    4. I was going to ask if I could use pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice instead of bananas. I'm not a huge fan of banana flavor.

    5. Sweet potato would suffice for something like this. I made a sweet potato cookie with raisins before.. they are VERY good, but you have to cook the potato first (I think).

      http://carrotsncake.com/2009/11/sweet-potato-oatmeal-raisin-cookies.html

  282. Oh man, those look so good. I wish I could try them right now. Too bad my kitchen is getting renovated. Torture!

    1. I might sub pumpkin in for banana, at least to test – I'm not allergic, but really don't like banana. 🙂

    2. You can substitute pumpkin but it is not sweet enough so you'll need some brown sugar to sweeten it….possibly applesauce. There is also a recipe for oatmeal and peaches. I think you just start with a couple cookies and then add spices and sugar (or sweetener) to taste. See the burlap bag website

  283. I don't think five of them will be 5 pp on WW as you have to mutiply all the ingredients by 5, however I think they sound amazing and healthy and I can't wait to try them!!!

    1. You are right…5 of these cookies would be 10 PP on WW. This recipe makes 16 cookies, so when all of the ingredients are added up you have to divide it by 16, and that equals 2 points for ONE cookie. I mean what is i point here or there but if you were to eat five, that could do some damage to you daily points allowance. They do look yummy though!

    2. My ingredients are 1 pt for each 1/8 cup oats and 6 pts for 1/4 cup nuts. that is a total of 14. I ended up with 20 cookies so actually less than a point each. I am new to WW is there something that I am not understanding?

    3. why do you have to use the banana? I really think WW just hasn't updated recipe builder since fruits became free. I don't see how a banana magically grows points if it is in a recipe – if I make a smoothie and use rb (I know it doesn't make sense but to illustrate the point) it adds points for the banana. and the message they show you when you click on the "not what you were expecting?" is so vague…these look amazing!

    4. I believe the reason the bananas have points once they are incorporated into a recipe is that your body no longer has to work as hard to break them down. I'm pretty sure weight watchers has put a lot of thought into the recipe builder and haven't just forgotten about it.

    5. So is it 2points for one cookie, or 2 points for two cookies? Gina has 2 for two, anonymous above is saying 2 for one. Can anyone pease clarify?

    6. I was thinking of adding prunes somehow in place of banana. I know they put prunes in cakes and it taste delicious. What do you think?

    7. From the way it is written, it is 2 cookies for 2 pts, or 1 pt each. I don't think we need to count bananas…I asked my WW leader and she said no.

    8. Avatar photo
      Michelle Knight

There are some people who still follow OLDER versions of WW. One piece of fruit is considered one point. The NEW WW must not count fruit anymore. This is why some people have different WW point totals for recipes.

    9. Yes, you have to count the bananas when cooked in a recipe. The idea is that if you eat the whole banana raw you are probably going to be full and/or the banana is going to keep you from eating other stuff. Here you are turning the banana into a cookie; the calorie count etc remains the same, it just that most humans who make cookies eat lots of cookies. The banana here doesn't serve the purpose of filling you up and keeping you from eating other food

    10. Weight watchers and any diet or calorie count is bad. Just eat proper portions and eat clean and you will be fine. I wish people would realize this.

    11. Weight watchers and any diet or calorie count is bad. Just eat proper portions and eat clean and you will be fine. I wish people would realize this.

    12. Counting fruit in a recipe just doesn't make sense. By that logic, I would have to also count the fruit I put on my cereal. I never do.

    13. Don't see my reply on here, so I will respond again: Doesn't make sense to count fruit if it's in a recipe. I don't count fruit I put on my cereal. Same thing. I haven't used recipe builder yet, but if I do, I just won't include fruits or veggies in the recipe to get a true pp+ value.

    14. WW recommends counting fruit if its used in a recipe.. But anyone can tweak the rules and stick to them for their weight loss plan.

  284. Wish I had ripe bananas in the house. I'd make them today. What a great cookie. Would work GREAT on Weight Watchers, too.

  286. I'm seeing this about an hour too late! I threw away some ripe bananas this morning. Now I'm looking at my green bananas over on the counter and wishing them to be ripe.

    1. You can freeze ripe bananas until you're ready to make these cookies or a smoothie or banana bread.

    2. Avatar photo

Donna, I never throw away ripe bananas. I peel them, put them into a sandwich bag and smash them flat. Then I put them in the freezer and use them for smoothies or banana bread. If you use two in your bread recipe, put two in the bags, but put just one in a bag for smoothie use.

    3. I just made them with 2 bananas that I had throw in the freezer (I just freeze them whole) I sat them out for awhile peeled them and followed the recipe. I split the recipe and made half with nuts and half with mini chocolate chips. They are good!

    4. Thanks I did not know you can freeze bananas. I freeze everything never tried bananas. It is one type of fruit my husband will eat one of the few that is. 🙂

    5. You can freeze them in the peel (although some water will come out, which is fine for a smoothie) and not have to use plastic bags.

    6. I am so excited…cookies without sugar or sugar substitute…so awesome! Processed sugar is so bad for you it leads to many health issues. Thank you!

    7. Please, please! Never throw bananas away. You can just put them in the freezer in the skin. Yes, they get very, almost black skinned, but the insides are even better & sweeter to bake or cook with. Set them on the counter to defrost or if you need them in a hurry, zap in micro. Doesn't take long. Great in smoothies or shakes. Super for banana breads. I collect those spotted, soft bananas in bags all year, so I'll have a supply in a second and a great collection for holiday baking.

    8. Freeze them and make them into "ice cream" too. Recipe is on this site! So easy to dress it up but tastes just like ice cream with only the one ingredient!

    9. I freeze bananas in their skin and just put them in a bowl of hot water for a few minutes if I need them in a hurry.

    10. Never throw away ripe bananas again! I make banana milk with mine! Bananas with lots of water in the blender with vanilla stevia or chocolate stevia! So yummy and a great replacement for milk or chocolate milk!

    11. I don't freeze my bananas in the peel like someone up above wrote, but instead i just peel them and freeze them whole in a ziploc bag. They are like a frozen banana pop if you want to later eat them like that or just use them in any way you want. You won't believe how good they are. I freeze a lot of different kinds of fruit. Taking fruit to work to eat in cereal is awesome if you're packing it frozen (no leaking, etc.). I just leave it out when i first get to work to get a little defrosted and then mix it in my cereal or whatever. But mostly, i just eat frozen fruit straight out of the freezer whenever i feel the urge. Like i said, with bananas, it is just like having a frozen banana pop!!

    12. I never through away overly ripe banana's, I freeze them, to use them for banana bread, cake, cookies or pancakes (our favorite)
