Pork roast, marinated overnight with fresh citrus juice, garlic, and jerk seasoning, then slow cooked all day while you're away. Topped with a bright, fresh Caribbean salsa of fresh mangos, avocado and cilantro. If I told you how good this dish was, would you believe me?
The kind of good that your husband tells you how much he loves you while eating it... yeah that good! This dish is officially going into my regular rotation.
One of my friends turned me on to Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning, turns out it's the #1 Best Seller in Gourmet rubs on Amazon! It's actually made in Jamaica, so it's the real deal and only cost about $4. It comes in mild and hot, so being the wimp that I am, I went with mild. I served this over brown rice with some cucumbers on the side for a complete meal.
Since a lot of you ask, I have the Hamilton Beach Set It and Forget It Slow Cooker, I've had nothing but great results since purchasing it if you're in the market for a slow cooker. I've had really bad results with other slow cookers, so they are not all created equal!
Slow Cooked Jerk Pork with Caribbean Salsa
Skinnytaste.com
Servings: 10 • Size: 3 oz pork, 1/3 cup salsa • Old Pts: 6 pts • WW Pts+: 7 pts
Calories: 265 • Fat: 15 g • Protein: 21.4 g • Carb: 11.5 g • Fiber: 2 g • Sugar: 7.5 g
Sodium: 468.4 mg (without salt)
Ingredients:
- 3 lb boneless pork shoulder blade roast, lean, all fat removed
- 6 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 - 3 tbsp Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning (I used mild)
- 1/2 tsp coarse salt
- 1 lime, squeezed
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
For the Caribbean salsa:
- 1 haas avocado, diced
- 2 large ripe mangos, peeled, seeded and coarsely chopped
- 1 1/2 tbsp chopped red onion
- 1-2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
- 2-3 tbsp fresh lime juice
- salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
Using a sharp knife, cut slits into the pork and stuff holes with half of the crushed garlic. Combine the remaining garlic, jerk seasoning, and salt, rub all over pork (you may want to wear gloves). Place in a large container, pour the lime and orange juice over the pork; cover and refrigerate 5 hours or overnight, turning pork occasionally so the marinade covers all of pork.
The next morning, put everything in the crock pot and cook on LOW for 9 hours.
After 9 hours, remove pork and shred using two forks.
Remove liquid from crock pot and reserve. Add shredded pork back to the slow cooker. Add about 1 cup of the liquid back into the crock pot and taste for salt and pepper. Let it cook an additional 15 minutes.
Meanwhile make the Caribbean salsa: combine all the ingredients in a bowl, season to taste with salt and pepper. refrigerate salsa until ready to serve.
Makes 30 oz cooked pork, 3 1/3 cups salsa.

You never seem to amaze me with these amazing recipes! I loved jerk chicken in Jamaica and always wanted to make something with the spices but I didn't know what. Now, I'm going to make this!
ReplyDeleteyou can find walkers jerk seasoning at cost plus world market, just saw it today!
DeleteThanks for the information. I have one of those nearby and will head over to get it today. Can't wait to try this recipe!
DeleteYou will love this, we truly enjoyed this... twice already!
ReplyDeleteDo you think this would work with chicken? I don't eat pork, but I'd like to try it with chicken.
ReplyDeleteIf so, any suggestions on amount/time?
Sure! I would use 4 to 5 breasts, but only cook it 4 hours.
DeleteI like this idea! Chicken sounds amazing for this recipe! Thanks!
DeleteI'm so glad you posted this today! I have a pork roast in the fridge and was thumbing through slow cooker recipes for a new way to make it! Will be making this tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteSounds great! A friend from Jamaica gave me a jar of Walkerswood to make jerk chicken. Very spicy stuff! And yes, I wore gloves! Thanks for the great ideas.
ReplyDeleteGina, would you be interested in trying my product? It is an all natural preservative free yakitori sauce. Check it out at www.obaachansauce.com drop me a line if you are interested. I love your site and your recipes!
ReplyDeleteThis looks incredible! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions on what to serve this with to make it low carb? I'm eating fruit, but not rice.
ReplyDeleteSarah, have you looked into Quinoa? It's got a lower glycemic index than rice and has more protein in it. I don't know the specifics of your low carb eating or if it works into it, but I thought I'd offer that option in case you hadn't looked into it already!
DeleteServe it over a bed of greens and you'll have the best jerk pork salad with mango avocado salsa... ever!!
DeleteI bet this would taste really good just plain with the meat and salsa... I would serve it with steamed veggies, like broccoli or cauliflower..
DeleteUse a ricer and make cauliflower rice !
Deleteomg! get in my belly!
ReplyDeleteWe are huge fans of Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning, so I'll definitely be making this soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of anything in the crock pot - this sounds wonderful! I can't wait to try the salsa!
ReplyDeleteI am going to make this over the weekend and will come back and post how GOOD (I know it's going to be good) it is. :) Thanks for this recipe.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure when I came home from Jamaica I had a jar of Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning with me in the hot, and let me tell you, that stuff is H-OT! I might try the mild instead. This sounds amazing, and I've been DYING to try a jerk recipe since all I ate down there was jerk chicken because it was so good!
ReplyDeleteI have plans for jerk chicken soon!
DeleteCan't wait!!
DeleteIf I didn't want to add the salsa,, any idea what the point value is?
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThis recipe looks delicious and I would love to make it for my boyfriend and his family, but unfortunately I have a condition called interstitial cystitis and can't use citrus fruits or anything too acidic. I know that's a huge part of the flavoring of this dish. How do you think it would be to omit it entirely? Or is there a subsitution that isn't too acidic? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think it would still be great, add another tbsp of the jerk seasoning for more flavor.
DeleteGotta have peas & rice with this!
ReplyDeletePerfect! I have a recipe for it too!
DeleteGina, I see that the seasoning is indeed rather cheap on Amazon, but that doesn't include shipping...
ReplyDeleteI usually buy from amazon, so I bulk a few things together and get free shipping.
DeleteThat isn't really Gina's problem...
DeleteOMG! This sounds incredible!! I can't wait to try this one out!!
ReplyDelete3 HRS IN THE OVEN AT 350 ?
ReplyDeleteMaybe, until it falls apart.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteLooks incredibly yummy! I have the same crock pot you do and I absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteThis looks incredibly amazing! Love the combo of sweet and spicy!
ReplyDeleteThis looks DELICIOUS! I know my husband and I would love it. But I have a "mom" question for you. Do you have a way of adapting this so your 3-year-old will eat it? Or do you cook something altogether different for her? My daughter is just about the same age as yours, and I am opposed (and don't have time) to cook two completely different meals. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter ate it. What I did was shred the meat, the inside part that wasn't exposed to the marinade, I set that aside for her before putting the rest back in the crock pot. It wasn't spicy at all and she loved it.
DeleteThanks! Sounds like a plan.
DeleteLooks incredibly, Gina! You are truly a gift :)
ReplyDeleteAny idea how this would convert to the pressure cooker? 45 minutes on low pressure?
45 minutes would probably be perfect in the pressure cooker!
DeleteJust ordered my Walkerswood from Amazon - can't wait to try this!
ReplyDeleteYUM! This looks amazing. Can't wait to add it to my weekly meal plan for next week.
ReplyDeleteHi Gina, Would you mine posting the nutrition information without the salsa? I really don't like mango unfortunately, but would like to make the pork! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat would a good substitute be for the mango? Peaches maybe? Love your site. Thanks for all the hard work.
ReplyDeletepineapple, papaya, both great options.
DeleteWould this work with Pork Stew Meat? I'm shopping on Fresh Direct, and the description says it's meat from the shoulder -- http://www.freshdirect.com/product.jsp?catId=picks_love&productId=prstw_stw&trk=ddpp
ReplyDeleteWould I need to adjust the marinade, or marinating time?
Thoughts?
I don't see why not!
DeleteI think amazon knew you were posting this and just jumped the price above $10!
ReplyDeleteOh no! You can google it and see where else you can buy it.
DeleteI tried this, and at least for me here in IN, there are no other reasonably priced options. The closet was $3.99 a bottle, totally doable! But the shipping was going to be almost $13 for one bottle. Can't bring myself to do that!
DeleteYeah, it's $11 now. I've never tried Walkerswood, but McCormick's Perfect Pinch Caribbean Jerk seasoning is a great one. I've been to Jamaica, have eaten the jerk chicken, and McCormick's comes damn close to what they used in Montego Bay! It's only like $3 in the grocery store.
Deleteine posting the nutrition information without the salsa? I really don't like mango unfortunately, but w
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious!! A great recipe to brighten up these winter days!
ReplyDeleteMmm! We went to Jamaica for our honeymoon and loved the food. I made jerk seasoning once with habeneros from our garden, it turned out pretty good (but not quite the same). I never thought of slow cooking it!
ReplyDeleteI have been to Jamaica twice! Once, on our honeymoon, and we went back on our 2 year anniversary. The jerk chicken was amazing. This recipe looks so delicious. My husband is at the store right now getting the stuff so we can make it tomorrow. I CAN'T WAIT!
ReplyDeleteNice!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMarinating now in the fridge, can't wait to try tomorrow! Thanks Gina
ReplyDeleteThis recipe sounds yummy! Do you think the leftovers would freeze well? I'm cooking for two.
ReplyDeleteyes!
DeleteOh my gosh - this looks incredible. And such perfect timing for me - I have a couple of pork roasts I've been trying to decide what to do with. Can't wait to try this one!! thanks, as always!
ReplyDeleteI just googled the ingredients in the mild jerk seasoning and scotch bonnet peppers was right up there at the top. I'm leary of trying even the mild version. Just reading the label made my mouth burn =)! Do you have a suggestion for an alternative seasoning?
ReplyDeleteThe mild was not that hot, we ate it with no problem.
DeleteJerk seasoning is really not that hot.
DeleteLooking to make this, but have a question on the liquids--it says to use 1/2 cup of orange juice, but when you take it out of the crockpot, to keep 1 cup of the liquid on reserve -- do you add more water when adding it to the crockpot? I'm just starting out on my cooking skills, and am unsure if more water needs to be added.
ReplyDeleteI made his last night and it's amazing just as written. The pork will create its own juice, so there's no need to supplement the orange and lime juice by adding water. BTW - I poured the liquid into my Oxo fat separator while I shredded the pork, so I was able to add back only the leanest part of the juice. So yummy!!!!
DeleteThose shredded meat if you dry it up, like really really dry, they become chà bông in Vietnamese ^^, which is basically meaty and salty, and you eat it with hot porridge. comfort food!
ReplyDeleteThose shredded meat if you dry it up, like really really dry, they become chà bông in Vietnamese ^^, which is basically meaty and salty, and you eat it with hot porridge. comfort food!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your site. I heard how great it is from my weight watchers meeting. This recipe looks delicious, and I LOVE that you've included both the portion size AND the nutrition facts!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to make this one! Your recipes are AMAZING! I live this site. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteDo you think you could substitute pork loin for the pork shoulder? Or would it get too dry?
ReplyDeleteI love the Hamilton Beach slow cooker! My husband says that my cooking has improved with this slow cooker. The probe is the best part! This slow cooker is worth the extra money!
ReplyDeleteDon't have Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning on hand. Will have to order some but it there something else that could be substituted? Another Brand?
ReplyDeleteI used this recipe to make my own:http://allrecipes.com/recipe/jerk-seasoning/detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=jerk%20seasoning&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e13=A%3aSearch%20Results-List%28control%29&e7=Recipe
DeleteMcCormick's Perfect Pinch Caribbean Jerk!
DeleteI can't wait to try this recipe! I ordered the Walkerswood seasoning from Amazon and sadly, the shipping was more than the cost of the seasoning. I have an Amazon prime membership and I still got charged $6.49 for shipping. Hopefully it will be worth it!
ReplyDeleteOhh, you can buy Walkerswood at Cost Plus World Market -- for those that have one near them and don't want to pay shipping on amazon.
ReplyDeleteAhh! I wish I would have known that before I ordered from Amazon :( Thank for the information though...for next time!
DeleteThank you for posting this! I thought this would be the case, since they always seem to have everything (they even had Hawaiian sea salt for the Kahlua pork). If you live in Columbus, OH Weiland's Gourmet Market carries it, too (although only in hot and spicy so I will have to report back how "bearable" it was, haha! Even if you don't have a World Market, any good ethnic food store should have it.
DeleteFirst of all, I LOVE pork. Secondly, I love using the slow cooker. And third, I just ordered my seasoning and can't wait to try this next week!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so good! Can I substitute beef shoulder for pork shoulder?
ReplyDeleteHow long would you cook if you don't have
ReplyDeletea slow cooker?
I can see myself putting that Caribbean salsa on EVERYTHING this summer! Such a mouthwatering recipe!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any suggestions for the leftovers?
ReplyDeleteI stumbled on your site a few months ago, and now almost exclusively cook from it. My husband is in love with you and your recipes. Thanks for making an okay cook into an amazing one. Jerk Pork with Caribbean Salsa smells wonderful in my crockpot and will be done shortly. Thank you so much! I have been telling everyone about your site.
ReplyDeleteI just had to come back and review this delicious recipe! We had it for dinner tonight and loved it! I did not have Walkerswood jerk seasoning, since I just found the recipe on here last night. I was too excited to make it, so I used Mccormick. Either way, it was awesome. Next time I will get the Walkerswood, since it is authentic, though. The Caribbean salsa was SO good. I did leave out the cilanto, however, since I don't like it. We had this with coconut rice, and it was amazing!
ReplyDeleteGina, thank you for all your great recipes! I have made many of them and loved them all! This recipe is right at the top! SO good!
I plan on making this recipe this weekend, and i think its Walkerswood that i have on hand in the bottom cabinet. I will tell yall that jerk has a few rules and the seasoning can vary, tho, according to ratio. I have made it from scratch a couple of times and its fun to put together those kinds of things just to see the breakdown.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this because hubby has brought home some wild hog from the hunt camp and i have been thinking it needed some bold recipe, and i cant wait to try it!
I want to say that i found this site recently and have tried three recipes. I am so impressed with Gina's ability to make everyday food taste amazing! Im a cook myself, but girl, you have really got some serious talent. my hubby is usually resistant to new recipes, but i hear no complaints. In fact, i dont hear any thing but his fork scraping his plate! Thank you Gina for a fantastic site, and your talent.
I had to make my own rub since they had none at our store,so I hope it will be great anyway!I am cooking this in the crock pot with chicken right now
ReplyDeleteCan this be done in the pressure cooker? If so, how long to cook, and do I sear it before putting the lid on?
ReplyDeleteEven making my own jerk rub this is absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi Gina!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if this would be good braised? I just recently braised for the first time and now I can't seem to stop ! If I were to use a dutch oven would you suggest doing it on the stove top or in the oven?
Hello Gina,
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing recipe. I wonder if I can do this with fish.

ReplyDeleteI made this last night and it's was a HUGE hit! I used a different jerk marinade since I didn't have Walkerswood, but I will definitely try that next time. I think that will make it have more kick! I served it on whole wheat, low-carb tortillas instead of brown rice because my boyfriend just isn't a rice kinda guy. I will definitely be making this again. Thanks for another wonderful recipe!
ReplyDeleteI made this last night and it was amazing! Used grace jerk seasoning since I couldn't get the other one and swapped out the mangos for pineapples since my family isn't crazy about mangos. Served it with some roasted sweet potatoes and it was the best meal I've made in a LONG time! Going to have some for lunch today! Thank you for another great receipe!
ReplyDeleteA must-make for a soon to appear dinner!...Question..Does anyone out there know of a good recipe for the jerk spice mix/rub?...Alas...this is extremely difficult to find in my neck of the woods in France...Thanks for any illumination!
ReplyDeleteI made this last night and hubby loved it! We put it on rolls with the salsa. Only thing missing was a sauce. Any ideas on a good sauce to serve with this?
ReplyDeletethis is in the crock pot now, picking up the yummy mango salsa from trader joes and used a jerk sauce from Target so might be saucier..I plan on making jerk tacos with black beans on the side..yum, I will report back!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great recipe! I made it last night, and it was a hit! Leftovers were just as good tonight! This is my go to site when I want to try something new!
ReplyDeleteWe had this tonight and it was DE-lish! Super easy, filled the house with a garlicky pork goodness smell, will be great leftover on dollar buns or tacos and the husband loved it! What more could a girl ask for? Thanks Gina!
ReplyDeleteI had this for dinner tonight and it was amazing! My neighbor even called me to ask what I had cooking because it smelled so good!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
DeleteWhat type and brand of brown rice do you prefer? I was just looking on amazon and there are so many :0/ thank you!
ReplyDeleteI buy short grain, long grain and basmati.
DeleteDo you have a Trader Joe's near you? Their frozen brown rice is my favorite. And easy! It cooks in the microwave right inside the plastic bag for 3 minutes, and it comes out perfect EVERY time!
DeleteThis is AMAZING! Thank you so much for all you do in creating healthy recipes that are delicious to eat! Yum!!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks really good, but I'm one of those people for whom cilantro is not an option...it tastes like soap to me! What is a good substitute to get that "bright" taste everyone is always talking about? thanks.
ReplyDeleteLeave it out, the lime juice and red onion will still taste great.
DeleteDo the points change any when you omit the salsa? My kids are not quite that adventurous. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis was absolutely the BEST pulled pork I have ever tasted! Just finished eating supper after a long 12 hour day at work and cant believe how wonderful this is! Easy prep. I couldnt find the spices you suggested but did use a carribean jerk spice by McCormick. I want to eat the whole pan!
ReplyDeleteHow would it be without avocado? Is there something I can substitute? My husband is allergic.
ReplyDeleteThis was my first pork roast ever. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome! Sadly, my avocado wasn't ripe yet so I had to skip it, and it was still great. But I love avocado and will use it next time--oh yes, there will definitely be a Next Time :)
My pork was a teeny bit dryer than I expected, but I used pork loin, not shoulder, and I wasn't very thorough trimming the fat. I'm not a very experienced cook so don't know if that would make the difference or maybe just because I used my Crock Pot, not a Hamilton Beach.
Another success thanks to you, Gina!
I got my Walkerswood seasoning and the Hamilton Beach crockpot yesterday from Amazon! I have this cooking today so I'll check back in after I taste it :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing slow cooker pork recipe! If on;y I could et that mango... Pineapple might be a good substitute!
ReplyDeleteI made this yesterday for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. I added diced tomatoes to the salsa for a little more color. I couldn't find walkerswood seasoning, so I just used whatever the supermarket had, and it needed a touch more spice. Thanks for such a great recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteI made this in a braising pot in the oven with a shoulder roast .. I found the Walkerswood Jerk Marinade at my local store which I was super excited about and opted for the Spicy .. My bf is Jamaican and puts hot sauce on everything and I was determined to make sure that didn't happen. I marinated my roast for 2 days and then cooked it for 3 hours it was fall apart tender.. I almost put potatoes and onions in the pot and because I braised it the moisture created a jerk sauce the potatoes cooked in. Those potatoes were to DIE FOR! Happy to say my boyfriend said wow and went for a large glass of water and bypassed the hot sauce ;)
ReplyDeleteJust adding to the massive number of comments that I'm too lazy to read. But I made this Sunday and we just loved it. I didnt' feel like waiting to order something off Amazon, so I made this jerk rub without the oil: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/jerk-seasoning/ and added tons of cayenne for a kick. Meat was succulent and delicious. Served over rice and the mango/avocado salsa on top is a must! Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteThis was delicious!! Great recipe!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your crock pot meals! I am definitely making this!
ReplyDeleteDelicious, unfortunately it was so good I had to eat 2 servings!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis was SO delicious! My husband (who is an extremely picky eater) could not stop raving about this dish.... we both agreed that this meal was better than something we would order at our favorite restaurant! Thank you for all of these wonderful recipes!!
ReplyDeleteThis was amazing! My 2 and a half year old LOVED it, husband loved it. So good. I really enjoyed the salsa so much that I think I will make it for other dishes as well. What is the calorie value for just a serving of the salsa?
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!!! This was BY FAR the BEST "weight watchers" recipe I have ever made....and actually one of the best recipes I have made period. SUPER delicious and we will be making this on a regular basis! The Jerk seasoning and the salsa make this recipe! Thanks for the awesome recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate to say this is my absolute favorite skinny taste recipe because I think I have 101+ favorites. But I think this is a favorite favorite. :) So easy and seriously the most tasty deliciousness that I could not stop eating.
ReplyDeleteI made this on Sunday with the Hot and Spicy version of the jerk seasoning you used (ordered from Amazon and got to me within 5 days!). It was my first time making any pulled pork dish, and it turned out great! The hot and spicy was not too much to handle, but I do like hot foods. I added a little garlic to the salsa as well. I will be eating this for lunch and will make it again! Thanks Gina! I LOVE SKINNYTASTE!! :-)
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner tonight! SO GOOD! I used the McCormick seasoning, and it was just the perfect amount of spice.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have much liquid left though, and I definitely didn't use 3lbs of pork... any thoughts? There was enough at the bottom of the crock to mix up to season more, but definitely not even a 1/2 cup.
Made this last night, Gina, and it was AWESOME! I used 1.5 pounds of pork with the original amt of liquid and really enjoyed the leftover juices.
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and it was delicious!! My house was smelling wonderful all day from the pork slowly. And i loved the carribean salsa. It was perfect.
ReplyDeleteMade this recipe tonight and it was SO fantastic! My husband said it great. He says I've become a fabulous cook since I found skinnytaste.com!! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHave always been a fan of jerk chicken.pork and Jamaican food in general. Found this recipe perfect! I didn't have access to pork shoulder, so I used a lean chunk of pork loin and it turned out great.
ReplyDeleteI am making it using chicken thighs right at this very moment (smell is killing me).
I also made Skinnytaste Jamaican Red Beans and Rice as a side and it was perfect.
The next day we had Jamaican wraps using the pork, rice dish and salsa. Yum.
how was it with chicken?
DeleteHI Gina, this doesn't seem like enough liquid in my slow cooker, will it burn?
ReplyDeleteGina...HELP!!! I ordered the Walkerwood seasoning, but they sent me the hot n spicy. Any suggestions for toning it down a bit???
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Amany - It was really good, I may brown the chicken first next time. I also think i over pulled or cooked the chicken. Id probably mash it rather than pull it next time....or even keep whole.
ReplyDeleteWOW - I have been making a crock-pot meal every Monday for the last several weeks (a lof of them from your website). I made this yesterday and it was AWESOME!!!!! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for another outstanding recipe, Gina! I thought this was really good, and the flavor combination was absolutely wonderful! While I personally enjoyed it very much, my husband was absolutely hooked with his first bite. We always rate any new recipe we try on a scale of 1-10 (10 is best). The best score my husband ever gave for anything was a 9, since it could always be better (in his mind). This one earned the first 10 ever! Many thanks - keep the main dish recipes coming, love 'em!
ReplyDeleteI found walkers wood at a local grocer here in NC! I am very excited to try this dish. If you have a compare foods near you, check out the Carribean section. I ran across it while trying to find the sir racha hot chili sauce for the honey sesame chicken...still no luck there.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to make the pork in my dutch oven as I don't have a slow cooker. Any suggestion on the temperature and time I should cook it for?
ReplyDeleteYummy Gina my husband and I loved this dish,,, two thumbs up! I paired it with the peanuttbutter pie I add banana at the bottom of the pie yummy! Love your site. so glad I stumbled into it, giving hubbie and I a love for dinner time! Thank you so much!!
ReplyDeleteLove for food
KW
This. Is. So. Good!!! Seriously, so tasty... and EASY. This will be on our regular meal rotation for sure. It made tons, so we have had left overs all week, which is always a bonus in my book. We didn't have the type of Jerk Seasoning recommended, so we picked a different kind up at our Grocery Store. Still very tasty, but not too spicy. Can't wait to share this with friends!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how the calories add up. Can anyone explain how 36 ounces of lean only meat would turn into 10 servings at 3 ounces each?
ReplyDeleteAll meat weighs less when cooked, both lean and fat. 4 oz generally weighs 3 after. I weighed this, but honestly, you can buy any size pork with it's larger or smaller, and just serve yourself a 3 oz portion.
DeleteI made this and it was amazing! I had some mango salsa left so I have another roast in the crackpot now. I love that your recipes don't even taste low fat. Once I even cooked a baked potato and added some of the pork to it. It was delicious.
ReplyDeleteI am using chicken for this instead of pork. Can i skip the marinate part and throw everything in the slow cooker?
ReplyDeleteAny recommendations on the best way to heat this up? I was following the directions to a T but we had a power outage while it was cooking and I was at work so it ended up not being done until bedtime, meaning we will have to heat it up and eat it for dinner tomorrow. Should I just throw it back in the crockpot for a bit to re-heat it? That being said, it smells amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis was by far the best thing I have ever put into my mouth. :)
ReplyDeleteI was not sure if I liked Jerk seasoning because I had never tried it prior to this recipe. But now I am a jerk fan for sure! It was amazing. My boyfriend couldnt stop eating, all he was doing was making these strange moaning noises about how good it was. HOME RUN! I am already an excellent cook but this recipe just added major brownie points for me. I told my cousin if she wanted something from her boyfriend to make the recipe, feed him, and then ask. Because there was no way a man could say no to anything after eating this !
What I changed... I could not find the jerk seasoning anywhere, and I didnt have time to order it so I made a homemade version of the jerk using a recipe I found off of Allrecipes, it was still amazing. I also couldnt find ripe avocados so I ommited that from the salsa. Otherwise everything was spot on. Can't wait to try it again when I get my actual jerk seasoning in.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! I look forward to trying more and more of your recipes.
I wanted to add that my 2 year old loved it as well! I set aside a piece of meat from inside the roast so it was not too spicy for him :)
Deletehey Gina,
ReplyDeleteDo you think I could use boneless pork loin instead of pork shoulder? Any changes in the cook time. I just got the Hamilton Set it and Forget it for my bridal shower a few weeks ago and this is going to be it's debut in the big leagues ;)
thanks,
amy

Dear Gina:
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the recipe, it was fantastic. I purchased Walkerswood jerk spice from Amazon and couldn't wait for it to arrive in the mail. The salsa is amazing as well. This will go on regular rotation at our house.
Sincerely,
Elaine Tsai
This recipe is so delicious and easy! What do you recommend for storing it for leftovers? Just refrigerate it and then reheat it the next day in the crock pot?
ReplyDeleteThis was amazing! So good, in fact, that had to have an extra half a serving! This would be wonderful in a wrap with that super delish salsa!
ReplyDelete
