If I told you how good this dish was, would you believe me? Slow cooked meals are a life saver after a busy day where I don’t have the energy to think of a meal. A few of my favorite easy slow cooker pork recipes are Garlicky Cuban Pork, Italian Pulled Pork Ragu, and Balsamic Pork Roast.

The kind of good that your husband tells you how much he loves you while eating it… yeah that good! This dish is officially going into my regular rotation.

I went to Jamaica a few years ago and had so much jerk chicken I missed it when I returned. One of my friends turned me on to Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning, (affil link) it turns out it’s the #1 Best Seller in Gourmet rubs on Amazon! It’s actually made in Jamaica, so it’s the real deal. It comes in mild and hot, so being the wimp that I am, I went with mild. I served this over brown rice with some cucumbers on the side for a complete meal. If you want to keep it low-carb, serve it with vegetables instead.

Since a lot of you ask, I have the Hamilton Beach Set It and Forget It Slow Cooker, I’ve had nothing but great results since purchasing it if you’re in the market for a slow cooker. I’ve had really bad results with other slow cookers, so they are not all created equal!

Course: Dinner
Cuisine: jamaican
Slow Cooker Jerk Pork with Caribbean Salsa is a delicious pork roast, marinated overnight with fresh citrus juice, garlic, and jerk seasoning. Topped with a bright Caribbean salsa of fresh mangoes, avocado and cilantro.
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 9 hours
Total: 9 hours 10 minutes
Yield: 10 servings
Serving Size: 3 oz pork, 1/3 cup salsa

Ingredients

  • 3 lb boneless pork shoulder blade roast, lean, all fat removed
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 - 3 tbsp Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning, I used mild
  • 1/2 tsp coarse salt
  • 1 lime, squeezed
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice

For the Caribbean salsa:

  • 1 haas avocado, diced
  • 2 large ripe mangos, peeled, seeded and coarsely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tbsp chopped red onion
  • 1-2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Using a sharp knife, cut slits into the pork and stuff holes with half of the crushed garlic.
  • Combine the remaining garlic, jerk seasoning, and salt, rub all over pork (you may want to wear gloves).
  • Place in a large container, pour the lime and orange juice over the pork; cover and refrigerate 5 hours or overnight, turning pork occasionally so the marinade covers all of pork.
  • The next morning, put everything in the crock pot and cook on LOW for 9 hours.
  • After 9 hours, remove pork and shred using two forks.
  • Remove liquid from crock pot and reserve.
  • Add shredded pork back to the slow cooker.
  • Add about 1 cup of the liquid back into the crock pot and taste for salt and pepper.
  • Let it cook an additional 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile make the  Caribbean salsa: combine all the ingredients in a bowl, season to taste with salt and pepper. Refrigerate salsa until ready to serve.

  1. I made this the other night and we loved it. Gobbled it right up and competed for the leftovers. I had the last of a bottle of Urban Accents Caribbean Pork BBQ seasoning, and it worked perfectly. My grocery store only had a 2# roast on hand, so I adjusted the amounts accordingly, with no problem. It’s a very forgiving recipe. Served it with jasmine rice and a green salad with tomatoes from my garden. So many lovely flavors!

  2. Great recipe but it would be so much better if you gave us a size calculator. I live by myself. The recipe feeds 14.

  3. So good. I had cubed pork shoulder in the freezer, so just thawed & marinated overnight with seasoning. Put in crockpot the next day, shredded and served on street sized corn tortillas with shredded cabbage slaw and mango salsa. So yummy and will have plenty for several more meals. I love the recipes on this site!!! 😋

  4. The flavors are amazing! This one will definitely be a staple. Loved it paired with the Red beans & rice.

  5. This was outstanding! I used the recommended jerk seasoning, which really surprised me. I somehow was convinced I didn’t like jerk seasoning, but this proved me wrong. Paired with the acidity from the orange and lime juices, this was a homerun. Like many others have previously said, this will be a regular on rotation. I am a complete failure at cutting fat from meat without taking away more meat than fat, so I left it on and then took the meat out after 9 hours, broke into chunks and let cool for a bit before removing the fat by hand. I also poured the juice through a strainer into a bowl and put 1 cup back into the crock pot. I had something else planned for dinner today, but the leftovers are being incorporated into something creative tonight. The meat is so versatile and can be put into so many different dishes. I’m thinking Caribbean pork nachos or tacos or over a salad. I’m curious how this would work with a pork loin and plan to try that next.

  6. This is delicious..period. I didn’t have the Walkerwood Jerk seasoning, so I made my own from a Google recipe. My homemade seasoning was WAY to hot. Instead of using 2-3 tbsps I used 1 tsp. Try to find the Walkerwood, I think it may be at Walmart, it wasn’t at our Kroger. The cinnamon in the recipe really shines. Love the salsa. I also have a Hamilton Beach crockpot and love it, my 2.75 lb roast was done in 7.5 hrs and I did marinate it overnight. I served with basmati rice and broccoli

  7. I’m not sure what I did wrong but my pork wouldn’t shred. I ended up cutting it into smaller pieces.

  8. We made this for an easy family dinner (12 people – used a 5 lb roast) and everyone loved it! It was so easy to prepare and didn’t require heating up the kitchen in the middle of a hot day. I marinated the pork and the next morning we lost power for the whole day. I was concerned the pork would be mushy when we made it over 24 hours later but it was perfect. Tender and so flavorful. I ordered the jerk seasoning online and glad to have plenty to make this again. The mango salsa was perfect for topping the dish. We made rice and black beans for everyone to make a bowl.

  9. Amazing 🤩 the meat and the salsa are perfect together. I’ve made this multiple times and it turns out perfect every single time even using different types of pork cuts. 🤤

  11. This recipe may seem super simple but it is honestly soooo mouthwatering!!! I made it last week and making it again this week! Already shared it with my whole family and friends. Honestly it’s unreal! And don’t be afraid to go to town with the seasoning and lime juice! Don’t be shy!

  12. DELICIOUS. I rarely make the same dish more than once every few months (especially crock pot dishes!) and I am currently making this for the second time in 3 weeks. So good and so easy to put together.

  13. The pork turned out really good! (I didn’t make the salsa.) I used the Walkerswood Marinade that I already had at home. It wasn’t super spicy and I used a little bit of Rothscild Pineapple Jalapeno salsa I had the in the fridge.

  14. I want to make this with a 1.5 lb pork loin. How long should it cook in the Slow Cooker on low so it doesn’t get too dry do you think?

Delicious recipe! I left the hot pepper ingredients out of the recipe because some of my family members don’t like heat and it was still great! (I added chili pepper flakes to my dish;)

    1. My husband is Jamaican and went absolutely nuts for this recipe (although he wished I had used to hot & spicy jerk instead of mild 🥵)  He told me it was super authentic tasting compared to other recipes I’ve tried!

He’s asked if I can make jerk chicken this way too, but I’m curious as to what cut of chicken you think would be best for this in the crockpot, a whole chicken or smaller cuts?  TIA!

  16. I want to make this to serve at a party I am hosting this weekend, but the 9 hour cook time is too long to make the day of. I was thinking of making it the day before and then re-heating. Do you suggest I reserve the cup of liquid to reheat with the pork for the party, or follow the recipe all the way through and then reheat all together as is. Any suggestions for re-heating would be helpful as well! Thanks.

We love this recipe but I wondered if you have adapted it to the instant pot by chance?  I want to make it for our family sunday lunch but won’t have the 9 hours to get it done in the slow cooker in the morning.  I have an instant pot but have rarely used it so I’m not sure how to adapt it myself.  Thanks!!

  18. I just made this recipe for the first time after following you for years and buying all of your books. I never thought I’d like anything jerk seasoned but I purchased the spice you recommended and this is a dish my husband and I absolutely love and will keep in our monthly rotation of your recipes! I’ve never had a bad recipe from you Gina! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. You consistently have amazing tasty recipes that I share all of the time. This one will be added to the list and has been shared already by me to so many tonight. So delicious!!

This recipe is telling me it is 9 points when I log it into the weight watchers app? Am I doing something wrong or is it not 5 points??

    1. Hi Abbie! The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website (Click on “My Foods,” select “Recipe,” and click “Create a recipe.”) which does not count fruits and vegetables in recipes in the calculations as they are now 0 points.

The SmartPoints® calculator isn’t meant for recipes and will often give you the wrong points (usually higher) because it’s counting the fruits and vegetables. So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, now you know why.

  21. Made this tonight it is tasty!  I did not have time to marinate for 5 hours  so I just threw everything in the crock pot for 9 hrs. I also added more garlic and jerk sauce (the graces brand).  Will def make again!

  22. Love this Jerk Pork recipe! We make it whenever we are craving spicy, Caribbean flavors. Super easy to make a great for when you have company.

  23. I’ve made this recipe pretty much every week for the last couple months. I LOVE it and I had to leave a comment even though I’m years late lol! It’s so easy and seriously delicious. I’m not a big pork eater normally and I never get tired of this pork.

I’ve made it both in the slow cooker and in the instant pot and it’s delicious either way. I’ve also made it with a bunch of different cuts of pork (I pretty much buy whatever’s on sale) and it’s always great. I use Weber brand Jamacian seasoning because it’s what they had at my local grocery store. I also use more orange juice because the pork juices are my fav part of this recipe. Sometimes I use the lime juice, sometimes I don’t. I ALWAYS make the mango salsa because it makes this recipe and I usually serve as tacos or over rice. Delicious. Thank you for sharing this, it’s a total staple for me!

  24. My family jokes about my cooking skills. We have a list of Mom Fails on the Whiteboard in the kitchen. It’s a source of laughter in our home that I can ruin any recipe because I will make unfortunate substitutions or other mishaps. Luckily, my husband is a great cook and so we generally do okay. I will say this for myself – I try creative things and I’m not afraid to Fail Large in order to discover things.

That being said – I decided to try this because the worst that could happen would be that it would end up on the White Board as another colorful but crazy thing my family didn’t like.

THEY WENT BACK FOR THIRDS! This was such a huge success. I am saving it for when we have company to show that I’m not always a hopeless mess in the kitchen. Thank you – thank you – thank you!

  25. This was the BEST recipe ever!! My boyfriend continued to bring it up the next day. I purchased the jerk seasoning in the ingredients. I ordered it from Walmart.com and oh my gosh the flavors! Sooooo good. I used pork loin since my grocery store only had 9 lb pork shoulder and I didn’t need that much. It came out moist and tender. I put the pork on top of coconut rice that I bought from Target. This is one of our favorite meals now! Thanks Gina!

  26. I love your recipes! I have both your cookbooks and regularly go to the website for other great recipes. My husband and I have been doing Weight Watchers for a little over a year – they recently changed to the FitPoints system (which I’m not in love with) but don’t really have an option since that’s what the whole app has changed over to. I noticed on your website the newer recipes are including FitPoints. But, I have been using some of the older recipes (the Slow Cooker Jerk Pork with Caribbean Salsa is a favorite!) and they don’t have the FitPoints listed, and some of the recipes (like this one) don’t include the saturated fat which is a non-optional item for the quick add calculator on the Weight Watchers app. I also noticed that this is listed as 5 SmartPoints but when I do the recipe builder (which is a pain since I have to list every ingredient because the saturated fat isn’t on here) it comes up as 9 FitPoints – usually there isn’t that big of a difference between SmartPoints and FitPoints so I’m wondering if you know why this would be? I only get 23 FitPoints a day so 4 points is a pretty big deal. Thanks! And thanks for such great recipes!

  27. Made this tonight. And wow. It was amazing. Tomorrow we will have left over pork in hard shell tortillas! Thanks for a great recipe!

  28. Is there any way you can provide the nutrition info for the pork and the salsa separately instead of combined? I don’t usually make the salsa but the pork is delicious! 🙂

  29. OH MY GOODNESS!! I made this dish for dinner tonight, exactly as described and with the Caribbean salsa, and it was so UH-MAZINGLY delicious!! My husband doesn’t get excited about much, but he went on and on how flavorful this dish was and that it was “a keeper”. This meal will most definitely go into our regular rotation. Thank you Gina! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  30. Gina, SO SO DELICIOUS! I think this may be a staple for my household. Thank you for continuing to give great original content.

  31. If I wanted to make this for the week, how would the salsa hold up (particularly the avocado), won’t it turn brown?

    1. Not sure about overall keep time, but the lime juice in the salsa will prevent the avocado from browning.

  32. Please make an IP version of this recipe, it’s a favorite of mine and my families but each time I try to adapt it myself, the pork seems too rough for shredding. Help me! 🙂

  35. A lot of your recipes have become a staple for me, and now this is one of them! It’s seriously SO good, super easy, and very filling. The only thing I didn’t add in was the onions, and I subbed parsley for cilantro, because I’m not a huge fan of either. I’d probably use green onions next time though. Either way, amazing, highly recommend to anyone reading.

  39. My family LOVES this recipe. I buy the 8lb. pork loins at Sam’s Club and cut them in 4. I put each in a half-gallon freezer bag and add the other ingredients to each bag. (We don’t put the garlic in the holes anymore). Then I freeze them. I make up a quadruple batch of the salsa, split that in 4 quart size freezer bags, and freeze that as well. It’s not the same as fresh, but when it’s all mixed together, it still tastes divine. Prep once, eat 4x. Last time, I made 8. We eat this at least 1x a month. Sometimes 2. It is so great!

  40. I was planning on grilling wild duck in a jerk marinade and didn’t know what to serve it with, so I looked to Gina for inspiration. I made the Caribbean salsa from this recipe, and WOW is it good! I served the duck sliced over quinoa with the salsa on top, and my husband can’t stop raving about it! Thank you for another fabulous dinner!

  41. I made this for dinner last night and it was so delish! My hubby went back for seconds and I’m already planning when I can make it again. The flavor combinations are spot on!

I have never commented on a recipe website before but this recipe was SO amazing, I have to share my praise. This is hands-down one of the best meals I have ever had! My husband and I both could not stop talking about how good it was while we were still in the middle of dinner. We will most likely make this a staple meal in our rotation, and I plan to share this recipe with as many people as possible. Thank you, and I absolutely LOVE your website!

  55. I am a huge walkerswood’s jerk sauce fan and and this recipe is so awesome and ridiculously easy! Made into jerk pork tacos with slaw and the mango salsa, black beans and rice. My hubbie said it was one of the top 5 dinners I’ve made. I am using the leftovers for jerk pork and mango spring rolls, with a cucumber relish on the side. Thank you truly for this awesome recipe!

  56. hi gina,
just made this recipe (the chicken version) from your cookbook and i wondered if the calorie count included the tortillas?

    ps. it was VERY delicious

  57. I love this recipe! I also have a good Jerk Chicken recipe (https://conversioblog.wordpress.com/2016/01/18/that-chicken-is-a-jerk/) that this salsa goes great with!!!

  58. Has anyone made this using boneless pork chops? I presume the cooking time would be much less, but I'm not sure if anything else would change significantly.

    Thanks!

    1. I have made this with boneless pork chops, pork tenderloins and pork loin. All work wonderfully IMO.

  59. Made this recipe last week. So easy to prep and the flavoring was perfect. Paired it with black beans and rice then had it as taco leftovers later in the week.

  60. I don't have a crock pot or slow cooker so if I used beef or chicken because I can't eat pork could i do this in the oven and approximately how long for thank you

    1. I slow cook thick beef ribs in the oven and it's usually 4hrs at about 300 or so. Use the time/heat suggestion from one of those recipes. Chicken can dry out but you could brine chicken breasts then do the recipe (much shorter cook time than beef)

  61. I could not find a pork shoulder roast. The butcher recommended a pork rib roast. Do you think that will work? Also, he told me not to remove excess fat as it would not shred without it. Thoughts? Thanks!

I didn't use the brand-name seasoning, just a Caribbean Jerk seasoning I had in my pantry, but this dish was absolutely out of this world! My husband and I devoured it. Thank you for posting! This will definitely be a repeat-recipe!

  63. Gina, I just got my e Hamilton Beach Set It and Forget It Slow Cooker, I'v from Amazon! OMG It is SO much nicer than the old one I had! I can't wait to make this one tomorrow!!!!! Did you use the probe for this?

  64. Hi
Can you please give me an idea of what ingredients make up the "jerk" sauce/spice? We do not get this product in South Africa (that I know of), so would like to look for something with similar ingredients or make my own

  65. This is a great recipe! Made it yesterday, marinated it overnight in a baggie as directed but added some lemon juice also. Threw in crock pot and cooked for about 9 hours, shredded it and returned to crock pot with about a cup of the juices, some more jerk seasoning and it sat for another hour or two. The salsa was great too! Even the picky eater loved it. Will be having leftovers for dinner 🙂

    1. I know this is an old comment, but for anyone wondering, butt IS shoulder. The actual "butt" is the ham. Just so there's no confusion.

  66. OMG, made this for dinner last night – fabulous!! I adore your recipes but this knocked it right out of the park – the mango salsa is the BEST EVER!!! Just ate it for lunch today – even better!! Fan of yours forever!! 🙂
    Thank you!!

  67. A little info on Walkerswood. It's not a seasoning, it's a wet paste. And it's SO SO SO yummy! If you have a Cost Plus near you, get it there. If not, splurge on the shipping and get it from Amazon, it's worth every penny. If you like things spicy, use at least 4 Tbs of the hot and spicy. 2 Tbs was hardly any heat, but 4 did the trick.
Also, pork shoulder is also known as pork butt.
This is hands down one of the best pork recipes I've come across. Bravo!

  68. Wow! This is definitely one of my favorite slow cooker recipes. Just blew us all away and a week later, I'm still dreaming of the delicious leftovers that we turned into tacos. Bravo! This is amazing!

Any recommendations for something to replace the mango salsa? I went shopping and the mangoes are the ONLY thing I couldnt get!

  70. I just got my crock pot for christmas. I am single and just out of school….so my experience with cooking is very limited. I saw this recipe and just had to try it! I prepared the pork last night but after reading the recipe again I am a little nervous about some things! I could not find that cut of meat at the grocery store but I think I got something similar, also couldnt find the seasoning in time but found a similar jamican jerk seasoning at Harris Teeter. I tried triming the fat but Im pretty sure there is still some on there. Also, the quality of my crock pot is a llittle questionable.Haha this could turn out terrible or still delish! Ill let you know!

  71. Can you marinate overnight in the crockpot pot? Just take it out of the base and stick it in the fridge?

  72. I just found this recipe on Pinterest and made it for dinner last night. OMG, it was so incredibly good!!!

The mango salsa is a MUST and in my opinion, what brings the entire dish together. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and am having trouble eating meat, but I ate my entire plate…it was that good! Next time I made this, I'll probably double the salsa recipe because it was that good…plus my hubby put like 3/4 of the bowl on his own plate!

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! I can't wait to try more of your stuff!!!

Sounds great, I have a mango allergy, (well, it's most fruit actually) and my kids are not keen on salsa yet. Is this kid friendly spice wise, (they like a little) and what could I serve with it for them? Many thanks!

I made this for the second time tonight and was left wondering why I waited so long to make this again. It is so good!

As far as kid friendly, it is totally doable. My little one is very spice sensitive and as we ate tonight he said "I like pork" without a word about spice. My trick is that when I pull it out to shred I take some of the meat from the middle of the pork (i.e. didn't touch marinade) and set that aside for him. Then I shred the rest and toss it back in with the juices. That way we get all the yummy spice and flavor but the spice is manageable for him. I hope that helps.

Also, he won't eat salsa because he thinks it is spicy so I just gave him plain mango on the side. It is also good with sweet potatoes.

  76. This was amazing! So good, in fact, that had to have an extra half a serving! This would be wonderful in a wrap with that super delish salsa!

  77. This recipe is so delicious and easy! What do you recommend for storing it for leftovers? Just refrigerate it and then reheat it the next day in the crock pot?

  78. I had to go out of town and so I put this on for hubby to eat while I was away. I had told him about your husband telling you he loved you while eating it. I called to check on him, the next day and he was eating. I asked him, "So how is it?". His reply, "I just love you.". Lol. He was one happy man. We love so many of your recipes, but this might be hubby's new fave. Thanks ,Gina. 🙂

  79. Dear Gina:
Thank you so much for the recipe, it was fantastic. I purchased Walkerswood jerk spice from Amazon and couldn't wait for it to arrive in the mail. The salsa is amazing as well. This will go on regular rotation at our house.

  82. This was by far the best thing I have ever put into my mouth. 🙂

I was not sure if I liked Jerk seasoning because I had never tried it prior to this recipe. But now I am a jerk fan for sure! It was amazing. My boyfriend couldnt stop eating, all he was doing was making these strange moaning noises about how good it was. HOME RUN! I am already an excellent cook but this recipe just added major brownie points for me. I told my cousin if she wanted something from her boyfriend to make the recipe, feed him, and then ask. Because there was no way a man could say no to anything after eating this !

What I changed… I could not find the jerk seasoning anywhere, and I didnt have time to order it so I made a homemade version of the jerk using a recipe I found off of Allrecipes, it was still amazing. I also couldnt find ripe avocados so I ommited that from the salsa. Otherwise everything was spot on. Can't wait to try it again when I get my actual jerk seasoning in.

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! I look forward to trying more and more of your recipes.

    1. I wanted to add that my 2 year old loved it as well! I set aside a piece of meat from inside the roast so it was not too spicy for him 🙂

  83. Any recommendations on the best way to heat this up? I was following the directions to a T but we had a power outage while it was cooking and I was at work so it ended up not being done until bedtime, meaning we will have to heat it up and eat it for dinner tomorrow. Should I just throw it back in the crockpot for a bit to re-heat it? That being said, it smells amazing!

  84. I am using chicken for this instead of pork. Can i skip the marinate part and throw everything in the slow cooker?

I made this and it was amazing! I had some mango salsa left so I have another roast in the crackpot now. I love that your recipes don't even taste low fat. Once I even cooked a baked potato and added some of the pork to it. It was delicious.

  86. I'm not sure how the calories add up. Can anyone explain how 36 ounces of lean only meat would turn into 10 servings at 3 ounces each?

All meat weighs less when cooked, both lean and fat. 4 oz generally weighs 3 after. I weighed this, but honestly, you can buy any size pork with it's larger or smaller, and just serve yourself a 3 oz portion.

    2. I know this is an old comment, but meat loses a lot of weight when it cooks. 3 lbs of meat is actually 48 ounces. Losing 25-30% of its weight sounds about right.

  87. This. Is. So. Good!!! Seriously, so tasty… and EASY. This will be on our regular meal rotation for sure. It made tons, so we have had left overs all week, which is always a bonus in my book. We didn't have the type of Jerk Seasoning recommended, so we picked a different kind up at our Grocery Store. Still very tasty, but not too spicy. Can't wait to share this with friends!

I found walkers wood at a local grocer here in NC! I am very excited to try this dish. If you have a compare foods near you, check out the Carribean section. I ran across it while trying to find the sir racha hot chili sauce for the honey sesame chicken…still no luck there.

  91. Thanks for another outstanding recipe, Gina! I thought this was really good, and the flavor combination was absolutely wonderful! While I personally enjoyed it very much, my husband was absolutely hooked with his first bite. We always rate any new recipe we try on a scale of 1-10 (10 is best). The best score my husband ever gave for anything was a 9, since it could always be better (in his mind). This one earned the first 10 ever! Many thanks – keep the main dish recipes coming, love 'em!

  92. WOW – I have been making a crock-pot meal every Monday for the last several weeks (a lof of them from your website). I made this yesterday and it was AWESOME!!!!! Thank you!!!

@Amany – It was really good, I may brown the chicken first next time. I also think i over pulled or cooked the chicken. Id probably mash it rather than pull it next time….or even keep whole.

  94. Gina…HELP!!! I ordered the Walkerwood seasoning, but they sent me the hot n spicy. Any suggestions for toning it down a bit???

Have always been a fan of jerk chicken.pork and Jamaican food in general. Found this recipe perfect! I didn't have access to pork shoulder, so I used a lean chunk of pork loin and it turned out great.

I am making it using chicken thighs right at this very moment (smell is killing me).

I also made Skinnytaste Jamaican Red Beans and Rice as a side and it was perfect.

The next day we had Jamaican wraps using the pork, rice dish and salsa. Yum.

Made this recipe tonight and it was SO fantastic! My husband said it great. He says I've become a fabulous cook since I found skinnytaste.com!! Thanks so much!

  97. I made this tonight and it was delicious!! My house was smelling wonderful all day from the pork slowly. And i loved the carribean salsa. It was perfect.

Made this last night, Gina, and it was AWESOME! I used 1.5 pounds of pork with the original amt of liquid and really enjoyed the leftover juices.

  99. Made this for dinner tonight! SO GOOD! I used the McCormick seasoning, and it was just the perfect amount of spice.

I didn't have much liquid left though, and I definitely didn't use 3lbs of pork… any thoughts? There was enough at the bottom of the crock to mix up to season more, but definitely not even a 1/2 cup.

  100. I made this on Sunday with the Hot and Spicy version of the jerk seasoning you used (ordered from Amazon and got to me within 5 days!). It was my first time making any pulled pork dish, and it turned out great! The hot and spicy was not too much to handle, but I do like hot foods. I added a little garlic to the salsa as well. I will be eating this for lunch and will make it again! Thanks Gina! I LOVE SKINNYTASTE!! 🙂

  101. I hate to say this is my absolute favorite skinny taste recipe because I think I have 101+ favorites. But I think this is a favorite favorite. 🙂 So easy and seriously the most tasty deliciousness that I could not stop eating.

  102. WOW!!!!! This was BY FAR the BEST "weight watchers" recipe I have ever made….and actually one of the best recipes I have made period. SUPER delicious and we will be making this on a regular basis! The Jerk seasoning and the salsa make this recipe! Thanks for the awesome recipe!!!

  103. This was amazing! My 2 and a half year old LOVED it, husband loved it. So good. I really enjoyed the salsa so much that I think I will make it for other dishes as well. What is the calorie value for just a serving of the salsa?

  104. This was SO delicious! My husband (who is an extremely picky eater) could not stop raving about this dish…. we both agreed that this meal was better than something we would order at our favorite restaurant! Thank you for all of these wonderful recipes!!

  105. Just adding to the massive number of comments that I'm too lazy to read. But I made this Sunday and we just loved it. I didnt' feel like waiting to order something off Amazon, so I made this jerk rub without the oil: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/jerk-seasoning/ and added tons of cayenne for a kick. Meat was succulent and delicious. Served over rice and the mango/avocado salsa on top is a must! Thanks so much.

  106. I made this in a braising pot in the oven with a shoulder roast .. I found the Walkerswood Jerk Marinade at my local store which I was super excited about and opted for the Spicy .. My bf is Jamaican and puts hot sauce on everything and I was determined to make sure that didn't happen. I marinated my roast for 2 days and then cooked it for 3 hours it was fall apart tender.. I almost put potatoes and onions in the pot and because I braised it the moisture created a jerk sauce the potatoes cooked in. Those potatoes were to DIE FOR! Happy to say my boyfriend said wow and went for a large glass of water and bypassed the hot sauce 😉

I made this yesterday for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. I added diced tomatoes to the salsa for a little more color. I couldn't find walkerswood seasoning, so I just used whatever the supermarket had, and it needed a touch more spice. Thanks for such a great recipe!!!

  108. What an amazing slow cooker pork recipe! If on;y I could et that mango… Pineapple might be a good substitute!

  109. I got my Walkerswood seasoning and the Hamilton Beach crockpot yesterday from Amazon! I have this cooking today so I'll check back in after I taste it 🙂

  110. This was my first pork roast ever. Hooray!
It was awesome! Sadly, my avocado wasn't ripe yet so I had to skip it, and it was still great. But I love avocado and will use it next time–oh yes, there will definitely be a Next Time 🙂
My pork was a teeny bit dryer than I expected, but I used pork loin, not shoulder, and I wasn't very thorough trimming the fat. I'm not a very experienced cook so don't know if that would make the difference or maybe just because I used my Crock Pot, not a Hamilton Beach.
Another success thanks to you, Gina!

  111. This was absolutely the BEST pulled pork I have ever tasted! Just finished eating supper after a long 12 hour day at work and cant believe how wonderful this is! Easy prep. I couldnt find the spices you suggested but did use a carribean jerk spice by McCormick. I want to eat the whole pan!

  112. Do the points change any when you omit the salsa? My kids are not quite that adventurous. Thank you!

  113. This looks really good, but I'm one of those people for whom cilantro is not an option…it tastes like soap to me! What is a good substitute to get that "bright" taste everyone is always talking about? thanks.

  115. What type and brand of brown rice do you prefer? I was just looking on amazon and there are so many :0/ thank you!

    1. Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? Their frozen brown rice is my favorite. And easy! It cooks in the microwave right inside the plastic bag for 3 minutes, and it comes out perfect EVERY time!

We had this tonight and it was DE-lish! Super easy, filled the house with a garlicky pork goodness smell, will be great leftover on dollar buns or tacos and the husband loved it! What more could a girl ask for? Thanks Gina!

  118. What a great recipe! I made it last night, and it was a hit! Leftovers were just as good tonight! This is my go to site when I want to try something new!

  119. this is in the crock pot now, picking up the yummy mango salsa from trader joes and used a jerk sauce from Target so might be saucier..I plan on making jerk tacos with black beans on the side..yum, I will report back!

  120. I made this last night and hubby loved it! We put it on rolls with the salsa. Only thing missing was a sauce. Any ideas on a good sauce to serve with this?

  121. A must-make for a soon to appear dinner!…Question..Does anyone out there know of a good recipe for the jerk spice mix/rub?…Alas…this is extremely difficult to find in my neck of the woods in France…Thanks for any illumination!

  122. I made this last night and it was amazing! Used grace jerk seasoning since I couldn't get the other one and swapped out the mangos for pineapples since my family isn't crazy about mangos. Served it with some roasted sweet potatoes and it was the best meal I've made in a LONG time! Going to have some for lunch today! Thank you for another great receipe!

I made this last night and it's was a HUGE hit! I used a different jerk marinade since I didn't have Walkerswood, but I will definitely try that next time. I think that will make it have more kick! I served it on whole wheat, low-carb tortillas instead of brown rice because my boyfriend just isn't a rice kinda guy. I will definitely be making this again. Thanks for another wonderful recipe!

  124. Hi Gina!

I was wondering if this would be good braised? I just recently braised for the first time and now I can't seem to stop ! If I were to use a dutch oven would you suggest doing it on the stove top or in the oven?

  125. Can this be done in the pressure cooker? If so, how long to cook, and do I sear it before putting the lid on?

I had to make my own rub since they had none at our store,so I hope it will be great anyway!I am cooking this in the crock pot with chicken right now

  127. I plan on making this recipe this weekend, and i think its Walkerswood that i have on hand in the bottom cabinet. I will tell yall that jerk has a few rules and the seasoning can vary, tho, according to ratio. I have made it from scratch a couple of times and its fun to put together those kinds of things just to see the breakdown.
I am looking forward to this because hubby has brought home some wild hog from the hunt camp and i have been thinking it needed some bold recipe, and i cant wait to try it!
I want to say that i found this site recently and have tried three recipes. I am so impressed with Gina's ability to make everyday food taste amazing! Im a cook myself, but girl, you have really got some serious talent. my hubby is usually resistant to new recipes, but i hear no complaints. In fact, i dont hear any thing but his fork scraping his plate! Thank you Gina for a fantastic site, and your talent.

  128. I just had to come back and review this delicious recipe! We had it for dinner tonight and loved it! I did not have Walkerswood jerk seasoning, since I just found the recipe on here last night. I was too excited to make it, so I used Mccormick. Either way, it was awesome. Next time I will get the Walkerswood, since it is authentic, though. The Caribbean salsa was SO good. I did leave out the cilanto, however, since I don't like it. We had this with coconut rice, and it was amazing!
Gina, thank you for all your great recipes! I have made many of them and loved them all! This recipe is right at the top! SO good!

First of all, I LOVE pork. Secondly, I love using the slow cooker. And third, I just ordered my seasoning and can't wait to try this next week!

  132. Ohh, you can buy Walkerswood at Cost Plus World Market — for those that have one near them and don't want to pay shipping on amazon.

    1. Ahh! I wish I would have known that before I ordered from Amazon 🙁 Thank for the information though…for next time!

    2. Thank you for posting this! I thought this would be the case, since they always seem to have everything (they even had Hawaiian sea salt for the Kahlua pork). If you live in Columbus, OH Weiland's Gourmet Market carries it, too (although only in hot and spicy so I will have to report back how "bearable" it was, haha! Even if you don't have a World Market, any good ethnic food store should have it.

  133. I can't wait to try this recipe! I ordered the Walkerswood seasoning from Amazon and sadly, the shipping was more than the cost of the seasoning. I have an Amazon prime membership and I still got charged $6.49 for shipping. Hopefully it will be worth it!

  134. Don't have Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning on hand. Will have to order some but it there something else that could be substituted? Another Brand?

  135. I love the Hamilton Beach slow cooker! My husband says that my cooking has improved with this slow cooker. The probe is the best part! This slow cooker is worth the extra money!

  136. This is my first visit to your site. I heard how great it is from my weight watchers meeting. This recipe looks delicious, and I LOVE that you've included both the portion size AND the nutrition facts!

  137. Those shredded meat if you dry it up, like really really dry, they become chà bông in Vietnamese ^^, which is basically meaty and salty, and you eat it with hot porridge. comfort food!

  138. Those shredded meat if you dry it up, like really really dry, they become chà bông in Vietnamese ^^, which is basically meaty and salty, and you eat it with hot porridge. comfort food!

  139. Looking to make this, but have a question on the liquids–it says to use 1/2 cup of orange juice, but when you take it out of the crockpot, to keep 1 cup of the liquid on reserve — do you add more water when adding it to the crockpot? I'm just starting out on my cooking skills, and am unsure if more water needs to be added.

    1. I made his last night and it's amazing just as written. The pork will create its own juice, so there's no need to supplement the orange and lime juice by adding water. BTW – I poured the liquid into my Oxo fat separator while I shredded the pork, so I was able to add back only the leanest part of the juice. So yummy!!!!

  140. I just googled the ingredients in the mild jerk seasoning and scotch bonnet peppers was right up there at the top. I'm leary of trying even the mild version. Just reading the label made my mouth burn =)! Do you have a suggestion for an alternative seasoning?

  141. Oh my gosh – this looks incredible. And such perfect timing for me – I have a couple of pork roasts I've been trying to decide what to do with. Can't wait to try this one!! thanks, as always!

  142. I have been to Jamaica twice! Once, on our honeymoon, and we went back on our 2 year anniversary. The jerk chicken was amazing. This recipe looks so delicious. My husband is at the store right now getting the stuff so we can make it tomorrow. I CAN'T WAIT!

  143. Mmm! We went to Jamaica for our honeymoon and loved the food. I made jerk seasoning once with habeneros from our garden, it turned out pretty good (but not quite the same). I never thought of slow cooking it!

    1. I tried this, and at least for me here in IN, there are no other reasonably priced options. The closet was $3.99 a bottle, totally doable! But the shipping was going to be almost $13 for one bottle. Can't bring myself to do that!

    2. Yeah, it's $11 now. I've never tried Walkerswood, but McCormick's Perfect Pinch Caribbean Jerk seasoning is a great one. I've been to Jamaica, have eaten the jerk chicken, and McCormick's comes damn close to what they used in Montego Bay! It's only like $3 in the grocery store.

Would this work with Pork Stew Meat? I'm shopping on Fresh Direct, and the description says it's meat from the shoulder — http://www.freshdirect.com/product.jsp?catId=picks_love&productId=prstw_stw&trk=ddpp

Would I need to adjust the marinade, or marinating time?
    Thoughts?

  145. What would a good substitute be for the mango? Peaches maybe? Love your site. Thanks for all the hard work.

  146. Hi Gina, Would you mine posting the nutrition information without the salsa? I really don't like mango unfortunately, but would like to make the pork! Thanks!

  147. Looks incredibly, Gina! You are truly a gift 🙂

Any idea how this would convert to the pressure cooker? 45 minutes on low pressure?

  148. This looks DELICIOUS! I know my husband and I would love it. But I have a "mom" question for you. Do you have a way of adapting this so your 3-year-old will eat it? Or do you cook something altogether different for her? My daughter is just about the same age as yours, and I am opposed (and don't have time) to cook two completely different meals. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My daughter ate it. What I did was shred the meat, the inside part that wasn't exposed to the marinade, I set that aside for her before putting the rest back in the crock pot. It wasn't spicy at all and she loved it.

  149. This recipe looks delicious and I would love to make it for my boyfriend and his family, but unfortunately I have a condition called interstitial cystitis and can't use citrus fruits or anything too acidic. I know that's a huge part of the flavoring of this dish. How do you think it would be to omit it entirely? Or is there a subsitution that isn't too acidic? Thanks!

  150. I'm pretty sure when I came home from Jamaica I had a jar of Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning with me in the hot, and let me tell you, that stuff is H-OT! I might try the mild instead. This sounds amazing, and I've been DYING to try a jerk recipe since all I ate down there was jerk chicken because it was so good!

  151. I am going to make this over the weekend and will come back and post how GOOD (I know it's going to be good) it is. 🙂 Thanks for this recipe.

    1. Sarah, have you looked into Quinoa? It's got a lower glycemic index than rice and has more protein in it. I don't know the specifics of your low carb eating or if it works into it, but I thought I'd offer that option in case you hadn't looked into it already!

  153. Gina, would you be interested in trying my product? It is an all natural preservative free yakitori sauce. Check it out at www.obaachansauce.com drop me a line if you are interested. I love your site and your recipes!

  154. Sounds great! A friend from Jamaica gave me a jar of Walkerswood to make jerk chicken. Very spicy stuff! And yes, I wore gloves! Thanks for the great ideas.

  155. I'm so glad you posted this today! I have a pork roast in the fridge and was thumbing through slow cooker recipes for a new way to make it! Will be making this tomorrow!

  156. Do you think this would work with chicken? I don't eat pork, but I'd like to try it with chicken.

If so, any suggestions on amount/time?

    1. Gina, any other suggestions for preparing this with chicken as opposed to pork (in regards to marinading, seasoning, etc.)? Or will everything work with chicken as well. I plan on making it with one pack of chicken breasts, so around 3. Thanks!! -Michelle

    2. I would also like to prepare this with chicken. You mentioned cooking for 4 hours. Is that on high or low setting in the crock pot? Thanks Maria

  157. You never seem to amaze me with these amazing recipes! I loved jerk chicken in Jamaica and always wanted to make something with the spices but I didn't know what. Now, I'm going to make this!
