Move over buffalo wings, this hot & cheesy shrimp dip will have everyone going back for more! This buffalo dip is perfect for super or any party appetizer.
Hot and Spicy Buffalo Shrimp Dip
A few more of my favorite party dips are the Buffalo Chicken Dip, Mini Bell Peppers Loaded Turkey “Nachos”, Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip, and Baked Buffalo Chicken Jalapeño Poppers.
Super bowl Sunday is just a few days away! I have tons appetizer recipes you can make, but I wanted to add one more, because quite honestly, what’s football without the buffalo dip!
This was inspired by my Buffalo Chicken Dip, I wanted to try a shrimp version topped with melted cheese, and we loved how it turned out!
Serve this with crudites to keep it light; celery and carrot sticks are the perfect vessel for scooping up the buffalo goodness! You can even add some baked chips to the table, baked pita chips work great. I minced some of the celery leaf for garnish for a little color. Enjoy!
***I made this a second time without the yogurt and I found I liked it better (less liquid), so I am removing the 1/2 cup of yogurt in the recipe below.
Hot and Spicy Buffalo Shrimp Dip
Ingredients
- cooking spray, I used my Misto
- 4 oz reduced fat cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup reduced fat sour cream
- 1/2 cup Franks hot sauce, or whatever hot sauce you like
- 1 tsp white wine vinegar
- 2 cups 12.5 oz cooked peeled large shrimp, diced
- 3/4 cup reduced fat Sargento Mexican blend
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Lightly spray an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 baking dish, or even a pie dish with cooking spray.
- Combine the first 4 ingredients together and 1/4 cup of the cheese; mix until smooth.
- Add the shrimp; mix well and put in a small oven safe dish.
- Bake in the oven until hot, about 20-25 minutes.
- Remove from oven and top with remaining cheese, bake until melted, about 4-5 minutes.
I’m curious if the shrimp gets too rubbery as the recipe uses cooked shrimp? I see lots of comments about this being too runny. Has anyone figured out how to solve this? Would love to try it for the holidays.Â
Love it
Dip was good but too runny……
I’m not sure if I did something wrong, but doing the recipe as it is written makes a very soupy dip. Disappointed in how it came out.
Fixed this for Father’s Day family gathering.  Great taste but was runny, so I used a slotted spoon and moved it to a small appetizer crock pot.  Enjoyed by all!
What if you don’t like sour cream? Posiblr substitute?Â
Has anyone made this ahead? Any idea how it would do put together the night before and then heated up???
Love this dip and the first time I made this it turned out awesome. The last two times I made this it separated and I cannot figure out why. Any thoughts?
Would this recipe work well with chicken instead? I want to make a buffalo chicken dip for Super Bowl this year but I don’t love blue cheese like your other recipe calls for. How would this taste with chicken?
I haven’t tried, let me know if you do!
My dip was runny so we changed gears and used it as a "sauce". Perfect buffalo shrimp pasta salad dish. Add hot, cooked whole wheat pasta, fresh tomatoes and fresh spinach for a delicious, still healthy, filling dinner option! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
Made this for the Super Bowl. It was a huge hit!! Thank you!!
I'm going to be making for NYE. Wondering why the blue cheese/ranch dressing , that is typically used in these type of recipes, was omitted. Concerned that the sour cream may not give enough flavor. Any reason for the SC vs. dressing? Anyone try without SC? If so, what did you use?
what was the revision? I made it exactly and mine was soupy as well.
I followed the directions to the tee and made the version without yogurt, but its very runny. Is it supposed to be thick? Suggestions?
I'm going to retest this and see if I can fix it.
I just made this dip & it turned out fabulous! I forgot the vinegar, but it's still very yummy.
WOW! I love your buffalo chicken dip. I love shrimp. I am SURE this will be a hit. I usually do mine in the crock. I just like the creaminess better. Like someone else said it's the way the cheese is out of the oven. just my personal thing.
Wondering about using those teensie precooked shrimps and not dicing them.
I see a Lent experiment happening! 🙂
This looks so yummy! But I wouldn't be able to handle all the "hotness" on my tummy. Is there an alternative to the hot sauce that would make it still yummy?
Mmm this looks so good! I am going to have to try this!
