Red, White and Blueberry Trifle

This Red, White and Blueberry Trifle is the perfect summer dessert for Memorial Day. It’s so fun and patriotic. Some other red, white, and blue desserts to try are this fruit pizza, these fruit skewers with cheesecake yogurt dip, and these cheesecake cupcakes.

This low-calorie trifle is a healthier holiday dessert. I take the traditional angel food cake toppings of berries and whipped cream and layer them in a trifle. Angel food cake is pretty light since there are no butter or egg yolks in it. And of course, the trifle is full of fresh fruit. There is no need to heat up your kitchen with this trifle recipe. Using store-bought angel food cake makes this dessert quick and easy to prepare. You can use a box mix or make the cake from scratch if you prefer. Whatever you decide, this strawberry blueberry trifle will be fabulous!

What are the layers of a trifle?

This trifle has eight layers of deliciousness. Angel food cake makes up the base, followed by blueberries, pudding/cream mixture, and strawberries. Then, repeat the layers with more cake, blueberries, and pudding and decorate the top with the rest of the strawberries and blueberries.

Can you make the trifle the night before?

You can do a lot of the prep for the trifle the night before you serve it. Cut the cake, wash your berries, and make your pudding filling ahead of time. I’d wait to slice the strawberries the day of so they stay fresh. I wouldn’t layer the trifle too soon before your event because the cake could get soggy.

How do you make a trifle without a trifle bowl?

If you don’t have a trifle bowl, you could use any deep bowl you have like a big salad or punch bowl. You could also make small individual portions in glass cups or mason jars.

  • Sub raspberries or blackberries for either the strawberries or blueberries.
  • Make the angel food cake from scratch or a box mix instead of buying one premade.
  • Use chocolate pudding instead of white chocolate pudding.

For the cream filling:

  • 6 tbsp fat-free sweetened condensed milk, I used Borden Eagle

  • Arrange half of the cake in the bottom of a 14-cup trifle dish.

  • Finish with the remaining strawberries and blueberries, arranging them in a pretty pattern.

  1. Whenever I make this I am inevitably asked for the recipe. So easy to assemble and deliciously light for a warm summer day.

  2. I made this for a 4th of July celebration and everyone loved it. I used a Dollar Store bowl I had from a previous party since I didn’t have a trifle dish on hand and it still looked fantastic. One piece of advice, check the sizes on the whipped topping – my store only had 9 oz or 16 oz, so I opted for the 9 oz. We will make this one again!

So easy to make, so pretty to put on the table, and enjoyed by everyone that had it! Big hit and highly recommend!

  4. My company loved this and they went home and made it again at their house because they wanted more. delicious and light. Great summer dessert. Thank you.

Made this for an early 4th of July picnic, everyone loved it and it’s was gone before my nephew got any, he requested me to make it again. Husband said it was a nice and light dessert after eating a big meal.

  7. This was amazing. Everybody loved it. I think there may be a typo on the recipe though. When it talks about the box of pudding it says 1 oz. I went with the smallest box which is a little over 3 oz.

    1. I was also super confused by this and stood in the grocery store aisle for at least 10 minutes trying to figure it out. I finally realized that the fat free/sugar free boxes are in fact 1 ounce boxes, whereas the original boxes are larger. Looking forward to having this today! (Giving 5 stars because a friend made it so I’ve tasted it before. Delish!)

    1. I for cupcakes, I haven’t tried it as a full cake- let me know if you do!

  8. DELICIOUS!! Took it to a cookout and unfortunately someone else brought something very similar so we have a lot left! Wonder if this could be frozen? I doubt it but may try instead of wasting it! Will definitely make it again. I used a 1oz sugar free cheesecake instant pudding mix.

  9. Best dessert ever! I love to bake and always try to “wow” my guests with fun and tasty treats. This no-bake dessert is a game changer!! I first made this last summer and it is now the most requested dessert by friends and family. They devour it every single time! It is so easy and keeps my kitchen cool (unless I bake the angel food cake myself). Thank you for this amazing recipe.

You want to make a big impression at the 4th of July party – this is IT!!!!!! Easy to make. I pipe in the creamy stuff with a ziplock bag and that really helps. Trifle bowls are easy to come by and I always leave the bowl as a hostess gift. This checks all the boxes! Pretty, Fun and Yummy!!!

  11. Absolutely delicious! I didn’t layer enough strawberries in the middle but will definitely make it again. A true crowd pleaser.

  12. I made this recipe for a 2023 Memorial Day party and it turned out great! I didn’t use all of the angel cake, saved it for another recipe! Everyone loved it, thank you Gina!

  13. I don’t usually comment on recipes but this one I couldn’t pass up. This is DELICIOUS. I made it for Memorial Day and it was a hit amongst everybody, even the toddlers. It’s not too sweet, which is probably the best part. I did opt for the fat free, sugar free cheesecake jell-o mix. Fair warning: you’ll want more than a serving size!

  14. I don’t see the size box of instant pudding that is called for this recipe and I really want to make this. I love all your recipes and can’t wait to try them . you’re the best!

This is always a hit! Here’s what I do because I don’t like the giant bowl and having guests scoop it out…I cut the recipe in half for 6 guests  (I use half a 3.4 ounce box of cheesecake pudding mix aka the small box). I cut up the cake into small bite size pieces. I divided it all into stemless wine glasses for a dinner party and they were the perfect portion!

Freeze leftover condensed milk in another container (not the can), freeze the  half of the tube of whipped topping you didn’t use and wrap the leftover cake with plastic wrap then foil so you can make it again at a later time by just having to get fresh strawberries and blueberries.

  16. This has become a family favorite over the years. I cannot remember all the fruit combo’s but peach blueberry is excellent. I always use frozen blueberries when making this to keep it cold.
I made it with Allulose syrup this year instead of sweeten condensed milk. It was very good .
For the celiac group several companies have a gluten free box angel food cake that is great in this recipe.
Thanks again Gina. Everyone wanted the leftovers for home.

  17. Excellent! The low fat, low sugar cream filling was so good! I used an entire 16oz cake because there was room in my dish and plenty of cream and fruit to go with it. This is a keeper!

  18. I love love love this recipe! I bring it to get togethers and everyone raves about it. Then I get asked to bring it again the next time! I have made it at least 8 times! Never fails to be a hit!

  19. I have been confused about the amount of pudding mix to use. I made it I used a small box (4 servings) which was 1 ounce and it turned out great.

      1. I’ve never seen 1 oz. I too was confused. But the only ones I find are 3.4 oz or 5.1 oz. I’m going with the small one. Fingers cross it turns out good!

  20. I made this for a friend’ 4th of July picnic and it was a huge hit! I followed the recipe exactly except I used homemade whipped cream. It was fun to create, made a beautiful presentation on the table, it was light with just the right amount of sweetness! Everyone devoured it – gone in minutes. Thanks for a great recipe I will definitely make again!

  21. I just made this for a July 4th cookout. FABULOUS! Everyone loved it. Just followed the directions, quite easy. I liked the tip about using a bag to pipe the filling. I used white chocolate pudding. Thanks for the great recipe!

    1. I just tried to make this! I used 4 1oz sugar free cheesecake pudding mixes & it was so clumpy.

    1. Yes! I’ve been making a similar recipe for years using sugar free instant pudding. Experiment with flavors. My husband loves lemon.

  22. Made this recipe with a butter cake mix- our neighbors raved about not only the yummy-ness, but how pretty it looked! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

  23. I’ve made a similar recipe for years using vanilla greek yogurt for the “cream filling”. Much healthier and delicious! Garnish with mint sprigs

  24. I’ve been making this for 8 years. It’s why I own a trifle dish. And it’s amazing every single time. Not sure the pudding issues, I always buy a 4oz box and it’s perfect. Godiva makes a 4oz white chocolate pudding mix that I use pretty consistently. I don’t ever deviate from the recipe and it’s always a success.
It’s delicious and always a crowd pleaser.

  25. I made this dessert as a treat for myself for 4th of July weekend. Not knowing where my trifle bowl was, I took my 9×13 and layered it in .Wow!
Cool, refreshing, probably the most decadent summer dessert you will ever make! Simple to make – you can build your top design anyway you want, then fridge to get it cool and creamy. You can serve on plates if you want to be formal , but fir sone really great fun , just put out a bucket of disposable spoons , and let your company dig in? Best party ever!!

  26. My pudding mixture never set even after waiting and putting in the fridge for a few minutes. The trifle came out very liquidity/soupy and all the layers merged. Any advice? Thanks

  27. I was looking for this answer and couldn’t find it but went ahead and tried so I wanted to give my results.  I was curious if you could use fresh whipped cream since I had some heavy cream that needed to be used and no cool whip (also my family prefers fresh whipped cream). We whipped a pint of whipping cream and folded it into the pudding mixture.  It was delicious and held up well even overnight in the fridge as we at the leftovers today.  We also used pound cake since I accidentally ordered pound cake instead of angel food cake.   It was also delicious.   I didn’t calculate points for those subs – I’m sure was higher.   My family also commented that the pudding/whipped cream mixture would be delicious with just berries too.  It’s definitely a winner in our house

  28. This is delicious, and so fun and festive for the 4th!
Don’t listen to the reviews advising to use less pudding mix. I used 1-4oz package and it was perfect. Not at all lumpy or thick. Silky and fluffy.
I made these into individual trifles using mason jars, and subbed raspberries for strawberries as strawberries were sold out in two stores (note to self, don’t wait to buy strawberries on the 4th!)
    Thank you for another hit!

Trying this today, without a trifle dish those so it could be interesting. I have Cool Whip but I also have greek yogurt I might use that instead. I can’t do sugar-free stuff though

  30. I used one 4oz. Box of pudding. My family can’t wait for the red white and blue holidays, they always want more.

  31. I made this for my daughters 4th of July party and the colors were perfect for the occasion and as a light desert after a huge meal. Easy preparations plus ease of transport make this a sure go to again.

  32. DO NOT add 4oz of pudding unless you want it to lumpy and thick. 1 oz is perfect. Great recipe with only 1 oz  of pudding!!

  33. I made this for my Memorial Day cookout because it was simple and low in calories. It disappeared in about 2 seconds flat! My daughter is still talking about it and keeps asking me when I’m going to make it again!

Can this be made the day before? I have always done it the morning of but this time I dont have enough time?

  35. Perfect dessert to bring to a bbq/pool party. It was a big hit and I was asked to bring it next time. So easy to put together also. Highly recommended!!!

  36. This was a huge hit at our Easter dinner. It was nice to have something healthy and light for me that was still a treat for our guests.

  37. I have a 90 year old and an 80 year old in my house and they are picky eaters.  They could not get enough of this desert. I used the fat free Cool Whip and sugar-free pudding (white chocolate) along with the angel food cake.  It was a huge hit!

  38. Righto! DO NOT USE 4 OZ OF PUDDING! ONLY USE ONE OZ OR YOU WILL RUIN THE DISH. however it is a great recipe and tastes yummy.

      1. I made this today for the 4th of July! Everyone loved it! I made it the night before, and it tasted perfect. Such a light dessert, but not too sweet. I see people saying not to use the 4oz of pudding, well I did, and there were no lump issues. Not sure what happend to others, but mine was fine. I even topped mine off with cool whip before decorating. Thanks!

  39. Aaaamazing!!!! The first time I made it I never got a bite!!! Was gone in less then 5 mins !!! Made a 2nd one for work and I made sure I was the first one to get a helping !!! Thank you for such a great dessert

I made this 6/30/2018 and took it to an event. Everyone loved it! (Including me)
    Saving to make again!!
Love the condensed mile in it – just enough to give it a good flavor without being too rich or too many calories.

  47. Just completed preparing the beautiful dessert for a Memorial Day picnic. It looks as beautiful as your photo. I’m sure the taste will be as dramatic.
Only one question for you…What do I do with the remaining can of sweetened condensed milk???
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kathy, I made homemade vanilla coffee creamer with it. I poured the sweetened condensed milk into a 16 oz jar, added an equal amount of regular milk, and a few generous splashes of vanilla. I put the lid on, and shook it for about a minute, until everything was well combined.

  48. JUst follow the recipe, people. Only add what says to add (don’t add extra water !) it’s wonderful. This is my second time making it and it’s just perfect and a crowd pleaser.

    1. Do you make the pudding according to the box and then add the pudding into the rest of the ingredients as the recipe says? I want to make it today. Thank you

No. IGNORE the directions on the pudding box. FOLLOW the directions in Gina’s recipe, 6 Tbsp of the sweetened condensed milk and 1 and 1/2 cups of water., whisk that together for 2 minutes. Sprinkle in the pudding mix, whisk it for 2 minutes. It’s REALLY simple.

  51. So what IS the answer. I am using 1 oz box pudding and skim milk Should I use 2 cups per box?

I also couldn’t find a 4oz box, so I purchased a quantity of 4 (1oz. Boxes jello brand cheesecake) . It turned out all wrong!!!! 1 1/2 cups water was not enough liquid.

  56. I made this for the 4th of July party at my complex. It was devoured! Trifles are wonderful in that they’re easy to prepare and everyone thinks that they look lovely.

  57. I made this last summer for almost every BBQ that we went to and it was the biggest hit EVERY time.  This is one of my favorite desserts of all time, and I don’t normally appreciate “healthier” desserts, so thats saying a lot!  Its so simple to  make and such a crowd pleaser.  It also looks so fancy and festive in a glass bowl (I don’t have a trifle dish).  I’m actually a little disappointed this summer because I’m never going to come up with something else to top this!

So do you make the pudding up according to the directions on the box or just use the mix straight from the box?
    Thank you.

  60. As an American living down under I still like to make 4th of July treats — but Cool Whip (or TruWhip) is not something you can get in Australia. I can order in Dream Whip because it’s just a powder you mix to create something like Cool Whip. Would real whip cream hold up in this or might I be better off trying the Dream Whip?

  61. I am excited to try this recipe for Fathers Day weekend. Is this truly four small boxes of pudding mix?

Was wondering if you could make this using skim milk to lighten it up more and lower the smart points?

    1. Instead of condensed milk (which is REALLY high in smartpoints) I used 1/2 c plain fat free greek yogurt and 1/2 c unsweetened vanilla almond cashew milk. It turned out perfectly!!!! I also used sugar free angel food cake and fat free cool whip. HUGE difference and still totally amazing.

      1. With that yogurt/almond milk substitution for the condensed milk did you also add the water called for in the recipe?

  63. Whyyy is my cream mixture coming out like cottage cheese? I’m going something wrong and I don’t know what. I have made this so many time and twice its come out chunky today. I am stuck! Help! ????????

      1. I had the same thing happen! I think it is too much pudding mix. I couldnt find a 4oz package so I used 4 one oz packages, and the directions on each one says to use 2 cups of milk. So 4 packages should need 8 cups of liquid, not 1 & 1/2! Maybe it was the brand of pudding mix- I used Jello brand.

      2. Avatar photo
        Gina Martinez

I think the issue is that people are thinking they need to compensate since they are finding the 1 oz. pudding packet. The reason it is 1 oz. is because it has a sugar substitute. Gina used a 3.4 oz pudding packet. They both make 4 one half cup servings. So they both take the same amount of liquid. Use 1 package of the 1 oz. pudding mix and use the amount of liquid called for in the recipe. That should solve the issue.

      3. So are you supposed to prepare the pudding mix the way it says on the box and then add that to the recipe or just use what’s in the box for the recipe?

    1. I just had the same thing happen!! Called my mom who I got the recipe from and her recipe says just one package of pudding mix(not 4 to equal 4oz) and hers always comes out light and fluffy and delicious!

That looks absolutely stunning! I want a trifle bowl now. Thanks for sharing. Pinning right now.

  66. I made this today and had trouble with the cream filling. I started with water and condensed milk, but when I added the pudding mix it was too thick (and thickened very quickly). I added some milk but the consistency was not as smooth as I think it should have been. It looks great and will get the "taste test" tonight at dinner. Please advise…..

I can only find Sugar Free Pudding mix. Is that what you used? Both the white chocolate and the cheese cake puddings are sugar free. Thanks.

  70. So excited to try this for the 4th! I made a strawberry trifle last weekend with real full-fat stuff, not fit for ww 😉 but this time I'm doing your recipe!

  71. I think I will try making these in individual servings using either clear martini or wine glasses.

  72. I have made this dessert so often over the past 2-years. It is delicious. Always make it the night before. I have used a nice glass bowl at first…but, trifle bowls can be purchased very inexpensively at Walmart, Kohl's, Meijer's, etc. My family requests this dessert. Thank you for sharing your scrumptious recipes!

  73. I made this for a cookout for 4th of July weekend. I should have made two because it was gone within seconds! This recipe is definitely a keeper!! The party wasn't even at my house and at the end of the night people were thanking me for the dessert. Thank you for another awesome recipe, this is one of my favorite websites!!

Very beautiful. Made it today. Unfortunately the recipe doesn't cover quite enough for my dish I used – it's a trifle dish that can turn over and be a punch bowl so while it's just as tall as yours, it is too wide. I ran out of enough cream and only had one white pudding, so I had to cheat and do a box of regular chocolate with cool whip and put in the middle at the top.. You can't see it at least so it still looks red, white and blue. I also did three layers of strawberries at the top and the blueberries in the middle for the wider dish.

I couldn't find white chocolate pudding at my store, so what I did was get vanilla pudding and add cinnamon to it. Cinnamon is so good with cool whip stuff and ups the health benefits of the dish too. I don't like vanilla pudding by itself but mixed with the cinnamon and cool whip it was great. I also messed up and made the pudding with milk before I noticed not to do that and that's what the water is for (d'Oh!) so my consistency is a little different.

Have it chilling now and will bring it to the barbecue later, hope everyone likes it.

  75. Do you make the pudding seperately and then mix it in with whipped cream or just mix in the little pudding mix in the cool whipped

  76. Looks beautiful! I make a similar trifle but use 1% milk to make the pudding?I sometimes drizzle a tiny bit of Amaretto on the angel cake( for adults only) Love your recipes.

  77. Has anyone made this with milk instead of the fat free condensed milk, regular pudding and real whipped cream. This looks easy and delicious but its full of chemicals.?? Thoughts?

  78. I searched all the Internet for healthy and delicious desserts recipes and I discovered this incredible book with delicious, healthy and low-calorie recipes, Strongly recommends –

  79. I made this following the recipe exactly and it was AMAZING! I can't wait to try variations, like a different type of pudding (maybe French Vanilla?) or adding different fruits in addition to the blueberries and strawberries (like pineapple or bananas).

    Thanks for sharing this!

  80. Made this for the 4th and it was a major hit. Even my picky, dessert-hating husband was intrigued enough to try it and has actually requested that I make it again before the summer ends. I can't even begin to tell you how huge that is!

  81. I make this every holiday/party/gathering and everyone ALWAYS LOVES it! It usually only last 15 minutes!

  82. I don't have a trifle bowl, so I found some cool margarita glasses and made individual servings of it. I made 5 very full glasses (skipping one level of fruit as it wouldn't have fit), and I had some extra of the pudding/cool whip mixture, so I am guessing I could have made 7 or 8 maybe if I'd used it all. So good, and my husband ate one the next day and said it was just as good!

  83. Was able to pick up a great trifle dish at Target which made the presentation of this dish epic. A couple of items, I definitely agree using a big ziploc with a corner cut out helps with the cream. Pay attention to the placement of the ingredients, by placing them against the bowl so they can be seen. The trifle was a hit at the July 4th party, although I did get to bring some home, there were several desserts available,(including your red/white/blue skewers!) none were finished. Definitely keep refrigerator until time to serve. Excellent dessert to feed a hungry group of folks. Thanks again Gina!

  84. Thank YOU! I made this for 4th of July and there wasn't anything left! I had to substitute cheesecake pudding because I couldn't find white chocolate pudding in my area. But it was AMAZING anyway. And so pretty!!! Thank YOU again.

  85. This was a hit at the 4th of July party I went to yesterday. I did take the first bite bc 5 min later it was all gone. If I had made 2 they both would of been gone fast!!! Thanks Gina, you are my go to site and I recommend your site to all my patients looking for healthier recipes.

  87. I just made this tonight, I tasted it in July at an office party and was directed to this website for the recipe. Unfortunately mine didn't turn out well. It was "soupy", after I spooned out one portion the remainder caved in. It didn't taste as fluffy as when I had it the first time. I followed the recipe accurately and wonder if you have any suggestions on what I may have done wrong? Luckily this was my practice trifle and I need to bring one to an event next week on 10/30/12. HELP please.

    1. I make this OFTEN and have never had this problem. How long in advance did you make it? I try and make it and let in sit in the fridge for atleast an hour before serving.

  88. I made this yesterday. I love it. I make my banana puddings with the same filling just use bananas and cookies instead so I knew it would be good. I couldn't find the angel food cake at the store I was at so I just bought the cake mix and made the cake. you only have to add water to the cake mix. Also, I used all strawberries because I'm not a big fan of blueberries. One cup serving is very fulfilling and plenty. Can't believe it's so guiltless.

  89. I made this for my sons 4th of July BBQ and it was a HUGE hit!

Whenever I ask "what can I bring?" to a party or BBQ, I am TOLD to bring this desert. I'm also making this tonight just because my son and daughter in law love it so much.

The store I was at didn't have white chocolate pudding, so I am going to try it with vanilla.

  90. I made this for dinner the other night when we had friends over. It was a huge hit! My guests even had seconds! I also had trouble finding the White Chocolate pudding, so I opted for the Sugar free Cheesecake pudding and it did the trick perfectly. Fantastic recipe!

Made this for dessert tonight, but my local grocery store did not have white chocolate pudding in the sugar free option so I subbed sugar free cheesecake pudding. So good!!!

  92. We made this yesterday for the 2nd time. It's our favoite dessert. and we don't have to feel too guilty eating it. It's so easy to make and so good, I could eat the whole thing by myself. But I do refrain….

  93. I made this over 4th of July as written and am going to make it for an Olympic Opening Ceremony party tonight. This time I think I'm going to try a lemon pudding if I can find it to add to the lightness and freshness 😉 Love your site, Gina. I can't even count how many of your recipes I've made!!!

  94. We recently moved into a new home. I made this trifle and then invited the neighbors over for dessert. They said it was the best 'meet the neigbours' they'd ever had. So easy and delish. Thanks!

This is absolutely the yummiest, lowest points value trifle I have ever made. Made it first for a 4th of July cookout, and then again for the family over the weekend due to popular demand. Just a tip…you can add fresh raspberries to this to make it even more colorful if you would like. Thanks for sharing! 😉

  96. I made this for a family party yesterday and it was a huge hit!! Everyone kept on coming back for seconds. Thanks so much for such a great recipe!

  97. I made this yesterday for a family gathering and everybody loved it, it was gone in minutes… it was delicious and easy to make. I will be making this again.

  98. As I was making this yesterday for a bbq we were going to my husband saw all the non-fat ingredients and was complaining that it would be "non-taste." Made him try it and he went back for seconds! Very good and very easy to make.

  99. @ anonymous no just the water condensed milk and pudding get mixed together if you made it the way the box says then add the other it would completly change the points!

  100. Question-Crazy question maybe but, do we actually mix the pudding according to the package first then the water and condensed milk?

    1. Anonymous, don't make the pudding according to the package, instead whisk the water and condensed milk then add the pudding. After letting it set fold in the Cool Whip. Hope this helps.

  101. I made this this weekend for a family BBQ it was AWESOME!! it will be a family favorite now..thanks for sharing LOVE your blog 🙂

  102. I am having a hard time finding the white choc. pudding can I use another flavor instead?

  103. I am new to trifles and I was wondering how you transport them without spilling over. I want to make this for a July 4th party next weekend thats about 30 mins away. Also can I refrigerate before the drive and just set it out at the party? Thanks!

  104. Just in time for the 4th of July. Do I have permission to reblog this? My site is I'm sharing my journey to living a healthier life through starting weight watchers. I'd love to include this picture, the recipe, and a link back to your site. I'll wait to hear back before doing so! Thanks!! Jessica

This looks delicious! Very similar to the one my mom has been making for years! Check out my version on my blog:

  106. Anyone knows what she means by "Fold in the whipped topping" part of the recipe? I'm confused about that part.

Folding in is not like stirring it together. You take a spoon or spatula and scrape from the bottom of the bowl and fold the pudding up over the top of the whipped cream and keep doing this until it's all combined. Stirring whipped cream breaks it down and it looses it's air and then isn't 'fluffy' anymore. Hope this helps and makes sense.

  107. I had the pleasure of eating this at a BBQ yesterday, and immediately asked for the recipe. The taste was amazing, and the dish was beautiful.

  108. My sister made something like this about a month ago but with just pain whip cream. It was good, but not WOW. I made a double recipe and served this one today at a BBQ for our friends and people fought over the left overs! The white choc in the whip cream makes all the difference, gr8 low cal tip. thanks!

  109. My sister & I make this dessert, but we use only Whipped topping…not the pudding. It's good that way, too. Since I am diabetic, I can use sugar free cake and sugar free whipped topping.

  110. I made this for our Memorail Day BBQ. It was wonderful. The pudding mix was a little runny, so I am not sure if I did something wrong. Either way it was gone!

  111. I made this for our Memorial Day bbq and it was a huge hit! I didn't have enough blueberries, so I used blackberries for the first layer. I wasn't able to find the white chocolate pudding, so like alot of folks I used cheesecake flavor. We all loved it, and the family has already requested I make it again this week!

  112. made this for memorial day for out bbq. It was a huge hit. Everyone loved it even the kids liked it. My in-laws even decided to eat dessert first because they wanted to try it. Thanks so much for sharing

  113. Went to 4 stores, couldn't find the white chocolate pudding anywhere. Bought cheesecake pudding instead, hoping it turns out good. It was either cheesecake or vanilla. Thought cheesecake might be better.

  114. Made it for a party, mine wasn't as pretty as Gina's but it sure tasted good! Made a few changes, my strawberries and blueberries weren't the most ripe so I made a simple syrup a few of the berries (was too chicken to use Splenda so I used regular sugar :/ ) I too wasn't able to find fat free condensed milk so i used regular. Used fat free everything else and substituted half the water for fat free half and half. LOVED the white chocolate- That was genius Gina!
So my version wasn't quite as WW friendly, will continue to search for the FF condensed milk and hopefully next time my berries will be sweeter!

Thanks Gina! This made the dinner party awesome!

  115. Just saw these on Pinterest! Yummy! I'd love for you to link up in my Patriotic Recipe & Craft link up! Thank you! Susie

  116. Made it tonight for dinner tomorrow. Easy to make especially since I really don't cook too often. Thanks for all the comments. They helped!

  117. Was wondering if I could sub the cool whip for homeade whipped cream, I just hate the flavor of cool whip! How many cups would I want to use?
    Thanks in advance

  118. I made this last night for a mothers day dinner…..AMAZING! I usually leave any leftover desserts with my sis or mom but not last night buddy, i took it home and can't wait to finish it off tonight!! I couldn't find white chocolate pudding so I used cheesecake instead. I'm sure it would be good with the other but i loved the cheesecake so well i'm not sure i can make the switch. I used blackberries and raspberries also. I'm new to WW and it's so nice to think that something that taste this good can actually be okay to eat…..I know I can keep doing this.

LOVE this site!!! Every meal this week has come from your recipes and I couldn't be happier or more inspired. Been on WW for almost 4 weeks and lost 15 pounds so far. This is actually fun!

  119. My Son in Law made this for us on Mother's Day…there was nothing left. It was sooo delicious and refreshing. Being a WW member, it was guilt free eating!!!

  120. My Mum has been making a variation of this for years. It was always my favorite during summer bbq's. She always used vanilla pudding, but I'm going to show her this recipe with the white chocolate. I bet that makes it fantastic. Another variation is banana pudding with cut up strawberries and bananas.

O.k. so this looks so yummy but if I made it fat free and suger free my husband might kill me (trust me he can tell lol) so can you use the not so healthy stuff instead or will it come out different other than not as healthy?

    1. You can use regular ingrediants. I sprinkled my strawberries with sugar and let them soak for a bit. I used regular cool whip without mixing it with anything. When you start layering, put your strawberries on top of the angel food cake so the cake absorbs the juice. Lovely!

  122. This looks awesome. Is there anything that can be substituted for the pudding mix? It contains petroleum-based food dyes and I avoid those. Love your recipes. Thanks!

  123. hello im new to your website…i have made a brownie trifle before and it asked for sweetened condensed milk and in my opinion and familys and was wayyyy to sweet. would it completely change the taste if i use regular milk? would it not be sweet enough or thick enough if i left the sweetened condensed milk out? thank you for your beautiful recipes!!

  124. I just wanted to say that I have made so many of your recipes it's like you live in my house with me. That might seem a little creepy, but it's true!
I know it's gross and against all the rules but I was really feeling the need for berries lately even though it's December and I totally made this recipe with frozen berries. It was not as good, I'm sure, but it fed my berry needs and made my family very happy!

  125. Fantastic summer dessert. Love the way the cake bits soak up the cool whip mixture. A no-fail dessert and as JRod notes, beautiful presentation.

  126. This was the first item I made from after my sister-in-law made it for my mom's birthday bbq! I made it for our Wednesday night dinner rotation and it was great!! Beautiful presentation and a delicious summer dessert!

  127. Made this dessert today…yummy! Thanks for the recipe. My husband's family loved it. My store is a little lame…they didn't carry the fat-free condensed milk or white chocolate pudding, so I used reg condensed milk and vanilla pudding.

  128. HI. I just wanted to write to say I have tried a couple different recipes now on your site and everyone of them have turned out amazing. I am fascinated with this site and always looking for what you will come up with next. I just made this dessert for my nephews birthday party and it was a bigger hit than the birthday cake. I made this and the buffalo skinny dip. NO LEFTOVERS! Thank you so much for this site. The items have been easy to find and recipes easy to follow. ~Amanda~

  129. Made this recipe for my in laws without telling them it was lowfat. Everyone thought it was delicious. But I did have to make a change. The store I went to was out of the white chocolate sugar free so I used vanilla sugar free instead. Came out fantastic! Thank you for this recipe!

  130. This was so good, no one believed that it was a healthier version! Will definitely be making again!

  131. I made this last night to bring to a carry-in today at work. It turned out beautifully and it was so easy!! Thank you Gina!!!

  132. For those challenged by slicing the strawberries, use a handy dandy egg slicer! For this recipe, remove the strawberry stem first. But in the past I've kept the stem on, don't cut all the way through, and then fan the strawberry slices for a pretty decoration.

Thanks for this website Gina. I am HOOKED!

  133. I fixed this for a 4th of July cook out and it was a big hit!! Everyone loved it. I had several people ask for the recipe. Thanks Gina, I love this site!

  134. I made this tonight to take to my sister-in-law's. I wrote about it on my blog and linked back to you. Please let me know if I need to add/correct anything.

  135. I made this for the 4th of July and it was a big hit. I ate the leftovers for breakfast and it was fabulous after sitting in the fridge all night.

  136. I've made this twice and it's a big hit. I didn't have white chocolate pudding so I used sugar-free cheesecake instead and it was awesome. Easy to prepare; looks so pretty and best of all DELICIOUS! Thank you Gina, I LOVE your website!

  137. I made this for my family's 4th of July celebration and it was a huge hit! I will definitely make this again and again!

  138. This was the biggest hit at our 4th of July cookout!!! I think I need an intervention because o am addicted to your site. My family has loved everything that I have made from here. 2mro we are making the low fat banana walnut oatmeal cookies and brown rice horchata. Can't wait to try the next thing!!!! Of anyone comes over for the intervention I have cookies!!!

  139. This was fantastic and the first item I made from your website. I too stumbled upon it from a friends suggestion. I hope all the other recipes are just s good!!Thanks so much. Oh and i ate so much of this…..

  140. I've made this recipe twice since finding it 2 weeks ago! It's a crowd pleaser and super delish!!!

  141. I have made this trifle twice already! It has been such a hit! My two year old loved helping me-its so easy!! I am so happy to have stumbled across this blog!!

  142. Gina, thank you for this recipe! It was delicious. I made it for a 4th of July BBQ and everyone loved it! I told them it was "skinny" and they all had seconds! : )
Oh and it was still good the next day, so moist.
Oh and WalMart sells a trifle bowl for $7. Can't beat that.

  143. I also made this on the 4th and used a sugar free angel food cake to further lower the calories. My pudding didn't get very firm but it was still delicious. My friends couldn't believe it was a "diet" dessert! I'm thinking of making it again for a family reunion this weekend!

  144. I made this as well as two other recipes of yours this past weekend – I have to say finding your website is just what I needed to mix things up with my meal planning . having lost about 128 pounds with WW things were getting stale , thank you so much for all these wonderful new recipes

  145. Made this for 2 different July fourth cookouts, it was a hit at both!!! I made cheesecake pudding one day and white chocolate the other and they were equally as tasty!!! It not only looked beautiful, but tasted delicious!!! It was also nice to have a 'healthier' alternative dessert. YUM!!!!

  146. I made this 2 times this holiday weekend and people could not stop talking about it. I could not find the white chocolate pudding so I just used regular vanilla (i could not find french vanilla either) and it was just delicious!

  147. I tried the recipe for the 4th of July, and it went over really well. I noticed it was going fast. Tasted just fine. Thanks for the recipe.

  148. Ditto to all that said they made this on the 4th and had great results – I love your receipes, Gina, because they turn out exactly as you say they will and are always excellent. I'm not a talented cook, but when I made this, everyone was impressed. 🙂

  149. I made this for our 4th of July party and everyone loved it! I didn't tell anyone it was low fat and no one knew the difference! Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful recipes!

  150. Made this twice today for different family gatherings. Huge hit both times. So delicious and festive, but so simple.

  151. just made this trifle for my fourth of july bbq, everyone was delighted and impressed with my dessert! thanks for the great recipe!

  152. Fantssic! Was a major hit with ALL ages! Thanks again for another wonderful recipe and for all your hard work!

    It Is What It Is

This was such a lovely centerpiece to our dessert table at yesterday's 4th of July BBQ and was promptly devoured. No one could believe it was made using FF ingredients.

I saw a FF banana cream jell-o and think I will make this again with that, pineapple and toasted coconut.

  154. Loved it! I'm doing WW and one of my parents is a diabetic. This gave us all a healthier dessert (and it was delicious) for our 4th of July cookout. Will definitely do it again. I'm planning to make it with vanilla pudding and bananas 😉 THANKS for the idea and inspiration!

So glad you all liked it, you can play around with different puddings to get different results.

is it 1 ounce pudding mix or 1 packet of 4 ounces. everyone is questioning it?

I cannot find 1 oz boxes they only sell the 3.3 oz or 4 oz????

  156. I fixed this yesterday with sugar free vanilla pudding for our family celebration. It was a big hit!

  157. I made this for my Canada Day BBQ and it was DELICIOUS!! So beautiful, too! It elicited a lot of ooohs and aahs when I brought it out. Thanks again, Gina!

Oh my … made this for the family for our pre-4th of July dinner. There were 12 of us and we devoured it!!! So yummy! Thank you … again.

  159. I made this for a 4th of July party today and I only took home a tiny serving. It was a big hit!! So light and fluffy. I made it the day before too and it held up very well. Thank you for your awesome site, Gina!

  160. Made this tonight for a party tomorrow. I literally could make the whole thing in the time it took pasta to cook for dinner!

  161. This is amazing!!! I just made it and am eating the leftovers and I'm in heaven. Just wondering, what do you do with the leftover condensed milk?

  162. This was wonderful!!! The serving size is very generous!!! I was unable to find the white chocolate pudding, so I substituted cheesecake pudding!!! Will definately be making this again, and again!!!!

  163. We made this for a graduation picnic. Huge hit. It was delicious and low calorie. I love this website and starting referring friends and family.

    Gina @ Skinnytaste

So glad this was a hit, I knoew it would be!!

You may want to assemble it without adding the top layer of fruit until you are closer to the party. It won't turn to mush, but you want the fruit on top to look fresh. Enjoy!

  165. Gina…I'm making this for my party tonight. How far in advance can I assemble this so it doesn't turn to mush?

  166. Made this spectacular dessert yesterday for our cookout! Easy to assemble…looked just as amazing (well, almost) as Gina's did! Was THE hit of the party! Not one single blueberry was left in the bowl. Easy to find the FF sweetened condensed milk at my local grocery store. It was about double the price though. With about half the can left over, I will make another batch of this delicious dessert this week. Maybe my husband will get some this time!

  167. This was a big hit tonight at our couples get together. I couldn't find white chocolate pudding, so used vanilla. I will definately make this again.

makes it a lot easier to slice the strawberries

  169. This was a huge hit last weekend at a friend's birthday party. There were lots of other deserts made with fruits and milk chocolate, but the trifle was the only thing that was gone by the end of the night! Thanks for your great recipes Gina 🙂

  170. I'm going to make this for a BBQ tomorrow, it looks delicious! I wasn't able to find the fat free condensed milk though.. I checked 3 different grocery stores, but they only had lowfat. I also couldn't find sugar free white chocolate pudding. I bought cheesecake flavor instead, hope its just as good!

I will be making this for our friend's 4th of July party! I don't have a trifle dish, but I have a blue clear bowl, that I'll use. I like the idea of adding some bananas and maybe raspberries into it. I am not a fan of blue berries, but for the sake of the day, I'll use them. Thanks Gina, another amazing recipe!

  172. I made this for a dinner party at my house. It turned out delicious. My husband and my sister in law couldn't stop raving about it and my nieces were sneaking away plates of it. My sister in law are on a diet and she couldnt believe the low calorie points. I have made many of your recipes and they all turn out great, especially the turkey burgers. Thanks!

  173. I made this trifle for a weekend BBQ and it was AMAZING!! Everyone loved it and said it tasted like something decadent – not HEALTHY!! Thank you so much for your site and all the hard work you put into maintaining it!! Love your recipes Gina!!
