What can be more kid friendly than a bowl of soup with spaghetti and meatballs! Lean turkey meatballs are cooked in a light tomato broth with cut up spaghetti. This is a one pot meal my whole family loves and leftovers are great for lunch.
This is a recipe from the archives that has been greatly overlooked. I finally got a chance to re-photograph this one, something I wanted to do for a while because it's very popular in my home and I'm sure it will be popular in yours. A delicious quick family-friendly meal for under $10!

This recipe is amazing! One of my lunch time favorites. Surprised no one has commented.
ReplyDeleteThis soup is great! Very flavorful. Both my children and my husband enjoyed it...no small feat! Not necessarily the prettiest dish I've ever made, but pretty isn't why I eat!
ReplyDeleteIsn't this great, I need to remake it to photograph it.
ReplyDeletethe meatballs only take 3 minutes to cook????
ReplyDeletethanks. looks good...gonna have to try this one
This looks delicious! And I love that the meatballs are made with turkey!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this recipe today. I already made the meatballs and sat them in the frig. I'm making this for dinner. My hubby will love it on this cold rainy day.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
They cook 3 minutes, PLUS the time it takes to cook the pasta which will vary by cut but yes, they cook quick, they are very small.
ReplyDeleteWow I can't wait to try this! My hubby loves (don't laugh) spageddios with meatballs (or franks) and I think this would be a great alternative for a big boy lunch! ;)
ReplyDeletelooks pretty good. I'm so glad you're redoing some of the old ones, not just b/c of the photos but the pts +! DH and I are restarting counting on WW and your site is a must! (even when we AREN'T counting!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for re-posting this..i would have missed it otherwise. I have a one year old that loves to eat spaghetti and meatballs. Since he cant use utensils yet, it usually ends up being a HUGE mess. This will be easy for me to feed to him and I am sure he will LOVE it. Thanks Again! Allison
ReplyDeleteYes, I am doing the old ones now and then because they are hidden since I didn't get much traffic back then. For my little one, I just give her less broth and she eats the rest with her messy hands :)
ReplyDeletelooks soo good , especially for these chilly days! reminds me of fideo!
ReplyDeleteThis looks delightful
ReplyDeleteLooks great for those cold winter months that are upon us. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious and I have everything in my pantry! We're so going to have this tonight!
ReplyDeleteFor those that are worried that the meatballs are not cooking long enough to get done - remember - they will be cooking for the initial 3 minutes PLUS whatever time it takes to cook the pasta. Will be plenty of time!
ReplyDeleteHow do you think this would do in the crockpot? I am think throw everything in, and then add the pasta at the last minute and let that cook on high until done? Anyone try it that way? I know the recipe is quick, but I work late and am always looking for yummy crockpot recipes.
ReplyDeleteI have to make this soon! I never would have guessed that the meatballs would have been done so quickly! My hubby is going to really love me after I make this!
ReplyDeleteI needed a new low point lunch soup and thought, "I need to check Skinnytaste." Glad I did! Can't wait to try this!
ReplyDeleteDelicious!! For the leftovers I heated up 2 cups of stock and added another TBS of tomato sauce and mixed it back in since the broth ran loa after we all ate.
ReplyDeleteIf you make it in the crockpot, I would cook it low for 4 hours. Then when you get home, add the pasta and cook it until done.
ReplyDeleteI made it tonight and it was good. Next time I am going to add something to thicken it a bit. It was easy and quick to make.
ReplyDeleteHi Gina, looks like the meatballs have onion in the photo? but not in the ingredient list, if it does then how much?
ReplyDeleteGina I now see where the onion is listed, I didn't read it the recipe completely at first..LOL
ReplyDeleteI made this last night for my husband and 2 year old daughter, it was a huge hit! I added chopped frozen spinach as well because we love spinach, I cant wait to have my leftovers for lunch today! Thanks for sharing this great mdeal.
ReplyDeleteWith all the holiday madness, I totally forgot I wanted to try your meatballs. Thanks for this recipe today, making this for dinner tonight. I better pull my turkey out of the fridge.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really good and easy. If you wanted it thicker, you could use less broth and a little more tomato sauce (although that would obviously alter the nutrition facts but still be a low calorie meal).
ReplyDeleteThis looks tasty! I'm thinking I'll use flaxseed meal in place of bread crumbs and egg beaters in place of the egg. What about adding spinach?
ReplyDeleteI made this last night... My family LOVED it!!!!! It was surprisingly delicious! I thought I would be able to bring leftovers for lunch but my folks went back for seconds and thirds! I added some pecorino romano to the meatball mixture because I had some I needed to get rid of. It added a wonderful flavor. Thanks so much for this recipe!
ReplyDeleteThis was so good. Made it last night and I'm a little sad I didn't bring it for lunch today.
ReplyDeleteHi gina, thanks for all the great recipes. Would this recipe be as good if I used ground chicken instead of turkey. annie
ReplyDeleteMy husband grew up eating a dish the family called "Spaghetti Soup". It didn't have meatballs -- rather ground beef -- but looked quite a bit like this. I think the turkey meatballs are a super addition and will make this for him tonight. I'm betting on his loving a stroll down memory lane with an improvement!
ReplyDeleteI actually used lean ground beef for the meatballs because that's what I happened to have at home.
ReplyDeleteThis was great! My only complaint was that I seemed to run low on broth but my husband and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI love this soup !! I also used lean ground beef for the meatballs. Thanks so much for this wonderful soup.
ReplyDeleteHey Gina, your Soup is a Recipe Guessing Game on Knapkins. Think your friends can win? http://knapkins.com/guess_games/947?source=blog
ReplyDeleteI made this today and it was super delicious! I substituted only a few things (whole wheat thin spaghetti and no sugar added tomato sauce) and it came out absolutely fantastic. I visit your blog frequently and have enjoyed every recipe I've made of yours!. xx
ReplyDeletemaking this tonight!!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight. I added two stalks of chopped celery and two chopped carrots. I also used Ronzoni Garden Delight spaghetti. It was so good! It passed the Hubby test and son had two huge helpings of it.
ReplyDeletelooks like my granny used to make))) brilliant)))
ReplyDeleteI made this last night and it was so yummy! I am literally counting down the hours until lunch so I can have my leftovers!! May be an 11am on the dot lunch today. So delish!
ReplyDeleteMy picky four year old said "I loved-ed that soup" She has never said that about anything I've made for dinner. Amazing recipe.
ReplyDeleteI'm not big on following recipes (probably why I don't bake to often, although your pumpkin bread ROCKS!). Instead of meatballs I used chicken sausage (the sundried tomato and basil, 4 pts per sausage), I added mushrooms and asparagus. Have't had it yet, but it looks and smells great!!
ReplyDeleteI am SO making this this weekend. I just need to find a good meatless meatball recipe, since I'm a vegetarian :) But there is a company that makes a no-chicken stock and I love having a chance to use it.
ReplyDeleteDelicious! I made it last night & my kids & I enjoyed it so much that we've all taken some for lunch today. Thanks for the great recipe!
ReplyDeleteMade this last night and had it for lunch today. It was amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteFor the person concerned about the meatballs only cooking 3 minutes. Remember, they are still cooking when add the pasta and it is cooking for another 11 minutes or so.
ReplyDeleteI made this today with ground chicken breast (ground it myself in my Ninja). I also used 5 oz of elbow macaroni in place of the spaghetti because that's what I happened to have sitting in the cupboard waiting to be used up.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see basil on the ingredient list, so it didn't make it on my shopping list. :( Even without the basil, it is a fantastic soup! Definitely don't skimp and go with fresh herbs over dried if you can. I forgot how amazing fresh parsley smells while you chop it!
I found the soup to have the perfect ratio of broth to "other stuff." I like lots of "other stuff" in my soups. :)
I will definitely make this again!
I just made this and it was a hit in my house. I also made your rosemary and garlic biscuits (that my husband love). This soup is very hearty and its fills you up. Great recipe as always.
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight and it was DELISH! I left out the red pepper since my 18month old daughter was eating too, but added a little Sriracha to my bowl and it was fantastic! Looking forward to leftovers for lunch tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteloved the soup , will make again
ReplyDeleteIt was excellent! My whole family loved it! Thanks for all the great recipes, keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteMade this recipe tonight. Very delicious! Thank you Gina for all that you do!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you all liked it, I'm glad I re-posted this. : )
ReplyDeleteI assume the 738.7 g is supposed to be mg??
ReplyDeleteThanks for noticing, yes I fixed that!
ReplyDeleteI am making this tonight! Can't wait! Thanks for the recipe, Gina.
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner last night, turned out great! Future hubby said it was amazing. Only changes I made were, I used wheat spaghetti noddles instead and added a little more tomato sauce. I was also surprised how quick the meat balls cooked!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight for my husband and I. He usually turns his nose to anything that replaces beef, but he loved it just as much as I did!! I think I cooked it to long because there wasn't much broth, but it was still so good!! I will definitely be making this one again!
ReplyDeleteMade this last night. It was great! I need thought to chop my onion smaller. DH has to have his onions "hidden". Other than that it was great!! (He still ate 2 portions & I think he wanted thirds but held off...) My son (age 2) gobbled it up too and it wasn't as messy since it didn't have all the spaghetti sauce! (we just gave him noodles and the meatballs w/o the broth)
ReplyDeleteI used Wheat Spaghetti noodles as well.
I was skeptical about this recipe at first but it was amazing!
wow yum this looks amazing!!!! want to make for dinner :) Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy your families enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI am mKing this tonight. I didn't add onion in the meatballs because it wasn't in the ingredient list and I overlooked it in the directions... Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and it was hit with everyone inlcuding 2 kids and a husband. My only question is the meatballs completly fell apart after I put them in the pan? Any suggestion?
ReplyDeletemade this the other night!!!! LOVED IT!!!! i sliced tomatoes and sliced mushrooms. DELISH!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone in my family loved it. New Favorite.
ReplyDeleteMy picky-eater hubby approves! Even with the turkey meatballs (he prefers beef). I recommend not stirring too much after you put the meatballs in to keep them together.
ReplyDeleteI just made this (meatball and spaghetti soup)and we really liked it. I used whole wheat rotini, but other than that followed the recipe exactly. Thanks for another winner! It was very filling.
ReplyDeleteGina I made this tonight and the family LOVED it, asked for seconds. So far I've made 3 receipes and everyone loved them. I've committed myself back to WW(100th time) and this site is a true lifesaver. Please keep up the good work
ReplyDeleteI made this recipe among many others of skinny taste recipes. They are easy to follow and I live WW point calculations. This recipe was a hit with my 8 yr old nephew and my 60 something yr old dad! Everyone was happy and it was a nice twist on spaghetti n meatballs/ albondigas. Keep em coming!
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight - very delicious! Be careful not to use too much spaghetti because it soaks up the juice from the soup.
ReplyDeleteI made this last night (first Skinny Taste recipe!) and it was wonderful. My husband even liked it so much that he took some to work today.
ReplyDeleteTHIS WAS DELICIOUS!!! MY FAMILY LOVED IT!!! THANK YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteIn case anyone else is wondering, I made the meatballs with egg whites instead of the egg and it turned out great.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I just ate this for lunch and LOVED it! Yet another completely fabulous recipe from Skinnytaste. It was so easy and the flavors were great. When I put the stats into my WW calculator though it said it was 6p+, not 5. I'm wondering if there was a mis-calculation or if that is excluding the numbers for veggies? Thanks again Gina for keeping my tummy happy!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! My picky toddler (normally exists on air and water) even had a few sips. Next time I will dice the onion smaller; big pieces were popping out of the meatballs when I tried to roll them. Small changes I made: used dry whole wheat breadcrumbs (couldn't find seasoned) and 3 ounces of Catelli Smart spaghettini. I don't know if it's just me but whenever I use pasta in soop, it always takes over and makes it stew (hence the reduced amount of pasta). Will make again, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI want to try this soon as printed but for today, I have frozen meatballs. Have you ever used premade frozen meatballs in the broth?
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner on Sunday and we can't wait to eat leftovers tonight. Thanks for all your hard work, Gina!
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner last night and my family absolutely loved it even my picky 8yr old.
ReplyDeleteAwesome recipe!!! I made it last night for my family and everyone loved it- even the kids who can be picky sometimes! This recipe was easy, inexpensive, quick, and very tasty. Will definitely make it again. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAs my sister would say about a dish like this..."she ain't purty but she's got a GREAT personality!" This is delicious! It's on my stove top right now and I had to sneak a bite. SO GOOD!
ReplyDeleteHmmm I'm not sure why people are saying this isn't a "pretty" dish. I think it looks lovely! This soup is absolutely delicious! My 19 year old daughter has never liked onions (I love them) so I would always exclude them from anthing I made. Tonight I waited for her to finish her soup before I told her there was onion in it! She LOVED it!! HAHA love it! ;) Thank you Gina!!!
ReplyDeleteAll I have to say is, mmmmm, exactly as written! Easy too! Thank you, Gina!!!!
ReplyDeleteYUM! So good and the kids even had seconds!
ReplyDeleteI also get 6 points not 5 an
ReplyDeleteThis is listed under a freezer meal... when should I freeze it?? Assemble the meatballs and soup and then freeze it or cook it all (except the spaghetti) and then freeze? Anyone?
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight, it was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThis soup is delicious & the portion size was plenty!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about using Vermicelli instead of spaghetti, saving a step by not having to cut the spaghetti. It looks delicious and I'm looking forward to making it.

ReplyDeleteI made this last week and it was AMAZING! Perfect for the cold winter coming. And yes, the meatballs really do only take 3 minutes. This was my first attempt at one of your recipes, and, for someone like me who can hardly cook, I was floored at the results. Thank you for such a wonderful creation!
ReplyDeleteThis soup is AMAZING! Even better as left overs! I want to use the meatballs for spaghetti!! I monthly meal plan and this is definitely going on Decembers menu.

This was so good! I used Lean Ground Turkey, added an extra cup of broth, extra red pepper flakes (gave it a nice kick) and used egg beater instead of a real egg. It turned out great!
ReplyDeletewhat about subbing out the pasta for spaghetti squash??? would it be way too mush?
ReplyDeleteMaking this for the "blizzard" we are getting on Long Island :)
