Do you like to dip? I love dipping my sandwiches, chips, fries, veggies… basically everything in dipping sauces but that can add extra unwanted calories or points if you’re not careful.

This light ranch dip is a great low fat dipping sauce recipe for snacking. Serve it with fresh veggies like carrots, celery, or even great with baked fries.

  1. I used more Greek Yogurt and added about 1 tsp of XVOO (extra virgin olive oil) in place of the mayonnaise.  I rarely have scallions on hand, so I used a little onion powder (maybe 1/2 tsp?), and I added a little dried parsley for color.  It tasted pretty good to us.  Fat-free or not, mayonnaise gives me the willies!

  2. OMG I am in love with this dip. I have made it the original way and then today I tried it with 1/2 tsp. of the dry powered Hidden Valley Ranch Mix… I am in HEAVEN! Love, love, love this!

  3. Any replacement suggestions for Mayo?

  4. BETTER than ranch dip & this is coming from a huge ranch lover!

  5. Also, you can add some crumbled bleu cheese…wonderful taste!

  6. These look like great recipes. Would love to see the salt content though for those of us on low salt diets. Thanks,

  7. ^^ That's exactly what I was just going to type! Is it 1/2 cup or 1/2 of the whole thing?

  8. when you say 1/2 as a serving do you mean half of the recipe?

  9. I am new to your website and have been cooking your meals for about a week now and have shed 5lbs ! thank you so much your food is simple flavorfull and delicious. I made this dip the other night and wanted to try it out as a dressing so i simply added 2 tbls of water to the mixture and it turned out FANTASTIC!!! and the water didnt add anymore points as buttermilk would and it didnt have that dilluted taste to it. Cant wait to try more recipes !

  10. I made a dip with a packet of Hidden Valley ranch dips mixed with a 16oz plain, fat free greek yogurt for new years! Everyone loved it and you can barely tell the difference between the yogurt and sour cream!

  11. Protip: Stop buying "baby" carrots and use the real thing, more vitamins and cheaper too.

  12. Sorry! Half of the recipe as this serves 2.

  13. Hi Gina
I just joined weight watchers yesterday and found out about your website! I'm excited to try out some recipes!

    Quick question :
the serving size on this recipe says 1/2 I'm a little confused

  14. I really like ranch that tastes like ranch at the buffet table or the ones you get where you want to dip your fries into. I am assuming it's Hidden Valley Ranch. Someone told me to go buy Bolthouse Ranch, uh yeah did not taste like that ranch at all. So I was just thinking I might as well make the real Hidden Valley Ranch and just use 1 Tbsp of it and I am sure it's one point + and that is all I need for myself anyway. 🙂 But if someone can come up with the closest Ranch that tastes like that Ranch, that would be AWESOME.

  15. This was yummy. I ran out of Greek yogurt so I substituted fat free sour cream.

  16. No matter how I try to eat it I just don't like Greek Yogurt. What can I use as a substitute for that in this recipe?

  17. Loved this! I used it to dip sweet potato fries and it was delish!

  18. Add some fat free buttermilk for a thinner dressing. I'll post a recipe for ranch dressing soon. I still have buttermilk in my fridge from my cilantro dressing.

  19. Made this tonight as a dipping sauce with the sweet potatoe fries. It was really tasty and creamy. Added a little garlic powder and fresh parsley. Gina how would you suggest thining it out to use it as a salad dressing? I am in love!! lol

    Denise

  20. Sure, the points might be higher, you'll have to check.

  21. Can sour cream be used instead of yogurt?

  22. It's delicious! I added some dill, garlic powder, and parsley along with the salt and pepper. Thanks Gina!

  23. That's like sour cream dip! Delicious! I love dipping french fries into it.

  24. Serving size is about 1 1/2 tbsp.

  25. I totally love to dip. 🙂 sometimes I could just eat dip and veggies or hummus or salsa (so many things to dip!) all the time in lieu of real meals! Great recipe…now I am craving ranch!

  26. What is the serving size for this one?

  27. You can't beat a simple Ranch dip to keep everyone happy. 🙂

  28. Thanks for sharing this idea, its fabulous!

  29. Thanks Chum for sharing all your variations!

When I made this, I was eating it with chipotle sweet potato fries, which are heavily seasoned with chipotle, garlic, and salt, so I wanted a mild sauce to go with them. But you can adjust this to go with whatever you're eating. If you're eating something that needs flavor, season this with more herbs or seasoning.

Lisa, adding chipotle is great to use on a sandwich!

  30. I use a similar recipe and add all kinds of herbs. One of my faves is to add chipoltle and/or adobo for a yummy dip or sandwich spread.

  31. Looks like a nice dip, Gina. I've certainly made something similar (love dips with fresh veggies).

For those of you who want to make this more like traditional "ranch," you can add: buttermilk powder (though that adds to the points value, I'm guessing) and the following dried herbs: parsley, dill, onion powder, dried onion flakes, garlic powder, pepper. I've also used fresh herbs or alternately, dried herbs and fresh minced/grated onion. I would keep the scallions, regardless, b/c I enjoy their nice texture and flavor. You can also make a nice dressing from these things, only omit the mayo and buttermilk powder and use actual buttermilk (which is naturally low in fat)

  32. Kristy, do share!!

  33. wow, this is nice 🙂 and u hv great photos!

  34. I love dip and so do my daughters, what a great alternative! Thanks for sharing!! Ellie Krieger from the food network has a great one that I use all the time!

  35. Great idea! I will give it a try.

  36. I like using this basic recipe and then adding Mrs. Dash Table Blend to it along with some garlic & onion powder.

  37. Sure, add garlic, dill, chives, cilantro, parsley, any herbs you have on hand.

  38. I like the idea, but you must be missing the garlic and some other seasonings?

  39. thanks for sharing! my beau LOVES ranch dressing but it is just so bad for you. he will love this.
