A few more guiltless favorites are Cheesecake Brownies,  Skinny Pumpkin Spiced Latte, and Flourless Chocolate Cake.

Hi guys! This is Brandi from BranAppetit, and I’m so happy to be here, sharing a recipe with you.

If you’re anything like me, you have families that love to eat and drink super high calorie foods during the holidays. I’m guessing it’s like this for everyone, really, but it doesn’t have to be! I definitely indulge in some foods that I only get during the holiday season like my mom’s fudge pie or my Mammaw’s ham gravy, but there are some easy ways to make great holiday treats a little more figure friendly.

Take this frozen hot chocolate.

A normal recipe would set you back hundreds of calories, but you can slim this down easily by swapping in skim milk and adding a touch of rich unsweetened cocoa powder for even more intense chocolate flavor.

My favorite way to have this is to add in a drop or two of peppermint or coconut extract, but it’s just as delicious without it, too. And with the warm December we’ve been having in Virginia, a frozen hot chocolate has been my go-to treat this year.

Hope you all have a great holiday season!

  1. Could this possibly be made in a food processor??…I no longer have a blender..alas! Could one possibly add water or more milk…rather than ice cubes…freeze partially…then process?…Thanks for any insight!

  2. Wow this frozen version of hot chocolate is just what we need on a very hot Christmas Day here in Australia – great idea!

  3. This is excellent. I have tried a lot of different recipes, including the instant choc pudding, which I did not like. This recipe is really good. I left the blender on a full 4 minutes. Split it into 2 serving. Stuck one in the freezer which I will re-blend at a later date. This has a nice mild chocolate taste with no chemical aftertaste. I will make this again and again. Did not use the cool whip but will try it the next time. Not sure it's necessary.

  4. Just had a frozen Choc Mocha from Dunkin Donut. I'll bet it tastes the same. Can't wait to try it.

You could also sub milk for vanilla unsweetened almond milk. YUM! I'm going to give this a try!

I remember the first time I heard about frozen hot chocolate and read the nutrition stats, I was FLOORED. This sounds so so good, especially with some peppermint like you suggested!

  7. Is Quik close enough to Ovaltine to use that? I have Quik. If we bought the Ovaltine, we'd never finish the container.

    1. First thing I thought of was that place. However, I only was able to attend the Georgetown location. My girl loves that frozen hot chocolate. I'm thinking of making this on our anniversary next Friday.
