Flaky white fish, tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro and lime topped with avocado. A fresh and flavorful way to spice up fish, quick enough to make for a busy weeknight!
I like it spicy, so I chop up the jalapeños whole, seeds and all but you can tone it down to suit your taste. The avocado raises the fat in this dish, but it's all good healthy fats you want in your body, the saturated fat is under 2 grams per serving.
Serve this meal with a Skinnygirl margarita and some salsa music in the background and let the fiesta begin!

Ingredients:
- 1 lb tilapia fillets, rinsed and pat dried
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 2 jalapeño peppers, chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
- 2 cups diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 3 tbsp lime juice
- salt and pepper to taste
- 8 5-inch white corn tortillas (I used La Tortilla Factory Fiber & Flax)
- 1 medium haas avocado, sliced
- lime wedges and cilantro for garnish
Directions:
Heat olive oil in a skillet. Sauté onion until translucent, then add garlic. Mix well.
Place tilapia on the skillet and cook until the flesh starts to flake. Add jalapeño peppers, tomatoes, cilantro and lime juice. Sauté over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, breaking up the fish with the spoon to get everything mixed well; season to taste with salt and pepper.
Meanwhile, heat tortillas on a skillet a few minutes on each side to warm (no oil needed). Serve a little over 1/4 cup of fish on each warmed tortillas with a slice or 2 of avocado and enjoy!

that looks incredible! i have tilapia as well so i def. have to make this!
ReplyDeletemmmm, this looks so yummy! Going to make it tonight :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing my dinner recipes every day of the week!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing and GF! Yay! Where did you find those corn tortillas?
ReplyDeleteYou can find store locations on their website... http://www.latortillafactory.com/retail.aspx
DeleteI just made fish tacos last night for dinner, but yours look delicious too. I made them with brown rice and your recipe for cuban black beans. I love using Tilapia! I will be making these very soon, they look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI bet they were great! I make them several ways depending on my mood :)
Deletelooks amazing! i'm going to try adding some mushrooms and beans! What do you think, Gina?
ReplyDelete-Jenny
beans sure, not so sure about the mushrooms though!
Deletehey Gina, I've been making fish tacos for a few months now using different recipes of yours. I LOVE the chipotle lime sauce from the crab cakes and I bake up some fish using your fish piccata recipe, throw it all in la tortilla factory corn tortillas with some chopped cabbage, salsa and avocado! So good, thank you for giving me a new one to try!
ReplyDeleteYum, sounds like a great recipe, I will have to try that!
DeleteI've been waiting for you to post a recipe for these. I can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteI have never made fish tacos! I am always looking for new seafood recipes, can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteJust had fish tacos for lunch in Mexico - can't wait to try this recipe when I get home fom vacation. They look amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about fish taco's is that there are so many ways to make them and you can use all different types of fish. As the weather warms, I can't wait to post more versions!
ReplyDeleteYummy! I'm going to have to try these. I love tilapia! And tacos... You had me at tacos LOL! Thx Gina! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis looks AMAZING! Pinning it right now :-)
ReplyDeleteSaw this pop up today, so I figured I would surprise my wife with them for Valentines Day dinner. Well, they were a hit with her and the kids, in fact two out of the three kids went back for a third taco. This got "thumbs up" all the way around, and they are so simple to make. I did add a little cumin while cooking to add that certain something, and shredded lettuce at the table. Thanks for the recipe, it's a winner in our house.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Kevin!
DeleteCumin is a MUST HAVE for making something in a soft taco! Way to go, Kevin! Glad to see you have a new recipe for the family!
DeleteCilantro lime fish tacos are one of my favourites! They are nice and light and yet so tasty and good!
ReplyDeleteI have flounder in th freezer, and it's also a mild fish. Could I substitute it for the tilapia?
ReplyDeleteSure!
DeleteGreat recipe! Stupid question. I have Tilapia in the freezer. How do I defrost fish? Do I leave in the fridge? Place it in water? Not sure how to handle that?
ReplyDeleteYes, defrost first. I place it in my fridge the day before.
DeleteWhat fish could I use besides tilapia--not a big fan of tilapia!?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your great ideas and recipes-you have changed my WW life! Made the Herb crusted beef last night and it was fabulous!! My valentine loved it!!
Any white flaky fish would work.
DeleteLooks tasty. Do you chop the avocado into small pieces?
ReplyDeleteAnother great recipe that will be boyfriend friendly! Thanks Gina! My boyfriend and I are both trying to lose weight, but both want to eat real food, so your recipes are keeping us sane. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI Am allergic to fish, but could I substitute tofu some how? I'm thinking marinating the tofu in cilantro and lime and chili oil, then baking or sauteing and adding the toppings. Well, I'm definitely going to try something! Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteTofu tacos are my favorite! I'm going to have to try this with tofu, and lots of cilantro!
DeleteHey Gina.. I'm really looking forward to trying this. I'm a first time poster but have been lurking around and trying your recipes for 2 weeks now. I only just joined WW and have found that the fun I have in the kitchen cooking your recipes have really kept me on track. I've never in my life tried a fish taco before .. but I will say I am a HUGE fan of tacos so I'm going to give this a shot on the weekend. I was wondering I'm use to Salsa and sour Cream and Cheese on my tacos .. do you think a guacamole would pair okay with fish??
ReplyDeleteGuacamole would be fabulous with this!
DeleteOoh better yet !! I just found your Creamy Cilantro Tomatillo Dressing.. it's only 1 point.. the flavors sound like they would combine nicely and I'd get that creamyness I'd be missing. I adore your website Gina!
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought of that too!
DeleteI've never tried fish tacos, but I love this recipe. It sounds healthy and delicious. Your recipes and pics are always great, so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Chris
Yum! I made fish tacos with tilapia the other night, but I baked mine instead of sauteing--I love the way your mixture melds all the flavors, though! Will definitely have to try this next time. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this, but I plan to cheat a little with Rotel tomatoes. I would definitely use fresh in the summer, but at this time of year, I stock up on Rotel Tomatoes with Lime and Cilantro (my grocery usually has it 10 for $10).
ReplyDeletenice!
DeleteI did the same thing when i started to pull the ingredients out and realized i was missing a few things. It worked great!
DeleteYes! Thank you Gina! Fish Tacos are my fav, the best! I just have to make these tonight now!
ReplyDeleteAs hard as I try, I just cannot get myself to like avocados (or cilantro)...Do you recommend any items to substitute them? Or do you think the tacos will taste alright just leaving those 2 ingredients out? Also, how does the point value change when the avocados are not added?
ReplyDeleteThanks! They look great, I can't wait to try them out! :)
We tried this last night and *LOVED* it. I'm having it today for lunch except I just put the taco stuffing over brown rice to make it more portable. It's equally yummy this way.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear!
Deletewe also had this for supper last night. It was delicious. thank you.
Deletenina
Silly question, did you use fresh tomatoes or canned? If fresh, how many?
ReplyDeleteLori
I used fresh, it depends on the size of the tomatoes.
DeleteI love fish tacos, and these look delish! A perfect healthy, simple and tasty meal!
ReplyDeleteHey Gina,
ReplyDeleteThese look delicious and I would love to try them, but my husband and I are not big fans of cilantro. Will I lose a lot of flavor if I don't include cilantro with cooking the fish?
Yummy...made these tonight and they were a hit with the entire family. That's some sort of miracle around here. Was so fresh tasty. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJust made this sans the tortillas. FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteMade this last night - One minor change - added cabbage raw to give it some crunch. We both enjoyed the meal and the heat.
ReplyDeleteI made these for dinner last night. The only thing I did different was to put the jalapeños on the side (three year old in the house). Everyone loved it! Thanks for a great dinner recipe!
ReplyDeleteI had the same question as CouponCrissy...I hate cilantro. Any suggestions for substituions? These look fab! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'll be making them as well tonight - got my fresh tilapia today!
ReplyDeleteKaren
Also, I plan to put some fat free greek yogurt in them too, yum.
ReplyDeleteKaren
Oh yeah baby! Looks so nummy!
ReplyDeleteGina - What would the nutrition be without the avocado (I don't like them)?
ReplyDeleteThese are so wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. It will be a weekly meal from now on!
ReplyDeleteSo I made these tonight, OMG sooo goood!!!! I can say I like these way better than any fish taco stand in Mexico!! My husband agrees. Tomorrow we are having a get together for a friends birthday, and are most certainly cooking these up...probably like 30! So good, thanks for sharing this ever so delicious recipe!!!
ReplyDeletep.s..i added extra spice and cilantro, because I love the two of them. mmmmmmm.
Made a variation of these last night. Didn't have any tomatoes or jalapenos so I subbed a can of rotel drained, added some other spices and did not have any cilantro! But they were still delicious! I never thought to put tomatoes in my fish tacos and it was awesome! Love all your recipes. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThese were delicious,Gina. Thank you for providing my recipes for everyday of the week.........my whole family loves them and they are so easy!!
ReplyDeleteOne suggestion for left over fish tacos is taking the filling and spreading it over tortilla chips and sprinking with cheese for delicious nachos!!
I made these last night and they were awesome. Like others, my pantry required changes.. halibut for tilapia and chili flakes for jalapenos. I also sprinkled some sliced mango on top. DELISH! Another leftover suggestion... the tomato and onion made me think of bruschetta, so I sliced a baguette really thin, sprinkled with a tiny bit of parmesan and popped it under the broiler for my lunch today. YUM! (it is also good cold in a pinch ;)
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Added some ground cumin and chili powder too.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog! You have some really great recipes! Can't wait to try some of them! Now following :)
ReplyDeletehttp://fitcraftystylishandhappy.blogspot.com/
This is our new favorite healthy fish taco recipe!
ReplyDeleteDo the calories and point plus include the tortillas and avocado slices for the two tacos. I live in South Texas and we have different types of white corn tortillas will it matter if I change them from La tortilla factory
ReplyDeleteso yummy! my husband loved them too!
ReplyDeleteDoes this freeze well? I'm a college student doing weight watchers and I'm trying to find good recipes that will last me a couple meals.
ReplyDeleteProbably not this one.
DeleteI tried this last night and it was AMAZING!! The whole pan was gone (after i put some in a storage container for today's lunch) And very inexpensive!
ReplyDeleteSeafood tacos are a family favorite.
ReplyDeleteWOW... These are so good! I loved these! It's very filling yet it's still light! I served it with some black beans! Thank you so much for the wonderful recipes and helping me with my Weight Watchers meals! Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteI made this today for my husband and we both absolutely loved it! This recipe was simple enough to follow and was bursting with fresh flavors! Wonderful!! I'm already planning on making these again!
ReplyDeleteMade these last night. Delicious! I blackened the fish then mixed it in with the vegetables. We loved it! We think we'll try the leftovers served over brown rice.
ReplyDeleteYour recipes are so amazing... I'm able to sneak in healthier food and my husband has no idea!! He's loved everything I've made from your site!!
ReplyDeleteQuick question, I'm new to cooking fish - when you say "until the flesh starts to flake" do you have an estimated time on that?
Thanks!!
I made this for the first time tonight and I love it! This was simple, fast and very tasty!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight for dinner, it was fast and VERY delicious! I have a week menu of all your recipes..if tonights was any indication, this is going to be a great food week for my family! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHad these tonight. SOOOO good:) Not only did I love them, but so did the hubby. I had shredded red cabbage into the taco for a bit of a crunch.
ReplyDeleteThese are DEEEELICIOUS!!! So simple to make too which is always a plus on weeknights. AND the best part, my teenage son told me these were the best thing I have made besides thanksgiving dinner LOL!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for all your delicious recipes! This week, I made these tacos, the Cajun Chicken Pasta, and then Lasagna Rolls last night. Each dish was absolutely amazing and a hit with my family! Since I have been counting calories and using your recipes over the past 1.5 months, I have lost 17 pounds and counting :-) I love how you are seasonal with your recipes too! Keep them coming!!
ReplyDeleteThis recipe was a delicious way to kick off Lent! I wanted to share how I enjoyed the leftovers the following day. I kept the fish mixture cold, added the juice of about half a lime, and added half an avocado (chopped.) it turned out to be a yummy "ceviche" appetizer that I served with tortilla chips. Just wanted to share something easy and delicious to do with the leftover fish. :-). -Laurielle
ReplyDeleteI have made a couple of your recipes so far; each and everyone one of them has been a hit! I especially loved this one, so easy to make, my fiancee & I gobbled all of it up in no time :) Keep the great recipes coming!
ReplyDeleteHi Gina!
ReplyDeleteI love your site, and drool over the recipes you post often! I made this last weekend and it was soooo good!!!
This recipe was absolutely fabulous! I am relatively new to your website, but have already made over 20 recipes found here. Each one has come out exactly as you described and was so delicious! I love all the new recipes you post and particularly have been enjoying how quick and easy they are! Thanks for such a great website!
ReplyDeleteHow many points+ would this be if I didn't use avocado?
ReplyDeleteThese were great!! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThis is about the third time I've made these and they are great, esp for a quick weeknight meal! I have some leftover and wondering if it will be good..I'm never to sure about fish?
ReplyDeleteI just made these tonight. OH.MY.GOSH. They are seriously amazing. The only thing I did different was 1 jalepenio and a can of Rotel diced tomato with green chilies instead of 2c diced tomato. Will definitely be in our dinner rotation... again...WOW, amazing!
ReplyDeletei love fish tacos so i thought i would give this a try. very easy recipe i might add. from a beginer cook to and experienced, this recipe will be okay for anyone. i thought they were pretty good but there was something missing and i dont know what. maybe if i hadnt taken the seeds and ribs out of the jalepenos it might have been better but my husband doesnt like spicy. this made tons! so im glad it was good so now ill have a good few days worth of lunch
ReplyDeleteNot only are these tacos amazing, but all of your lenten recipes have been a life saver! I'm also a WW member, and I'm always looking to your website for recipes. Thank you so much, Gina!
ReplyDeleteI had 2 tilapia fillets so I tried this tonight...my husband loved it and so did I! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFREAKING AWESOME! I added cabbage slaw for some crunch and mango salsa just because it sounded good. Best dinner I've made in a while!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you all loved them!!
ReplyDeleteThese were amazing! My fish-loving 5-yr-old couldn't get enough & the hubby deemed them better than restaurant quality. My 7-yr-old, who only likes fish when I fry it, wasn't crazy about it. Big thumbs-up! I deem it a must-try! And, they were fun to make! Now, I can get the fish tacos I always want much cheaper than at restaurants AND I can control how spicy & healthy they are! Win-win!
ReplyDeleteGina, any idea what the calorie count on just the filling is without the tortillas or avocado?
ReplyDeleteAnother great recipe! I didn't have enough fresh tomato, so subsituted half a cup with store bought salsa, turned out great. My avocaso wasn't rip eenough, so I served with a dollop of fat free greek yoghurt
ReplyDeleteI make these every other week. Love them!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing! I added a little smoked cayenne pepper for a little more heat and flavor.
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC! Another winner...thanks for the great meal ideas!
ReplyDeleteHappy Cinco de Mayo! I made these tacos for dinner tonight, they came out very good. For the past 2 weeks I have been making skinnyTaste recipes for myself (WW), my boyfriend and my 3 year old. We all enjoy your recipes. :)
ReplyDeleteI made these for Cinco de Mayo for the husband and I...I have never been a fan of fish or tacos but I love all the ingredients in this recipe so I gave it a try! Oh my goodness-they were a hit! The avocado was necessary to me to add a little flavor. I think next time I will play around with a little seasoning but I will definitely be making these again. The husband had three tacos and he could have had more! Third recipe from Skinny Taste that has been a success! I'm getting hooked! By the way, I'm down to 149 today from 169 so I've lost 20 pounds so far! Thanks for the great skinny recipes!
ReplyDeleteI made these for dinner tonight and my fiance and I loved them! I got the thumbs up to add this into the "rotation" of dinners. Thank you so much for this awesome recipe! I will definitely be making these tacos again!
ReplyDeleteThese fish tacos were AMAZING! The best I've ever had! I did have to change a few things depending on what I had available: I used lemon juice instead of lime and a bit of chili garlic sauce and cayenne pepper instead of jalapeño. I couldn't make it with avocado cuz they're not in season so I added roman lettuce and reduced fat sour cream. I also added a bit of feta cheese. ;)
ReplyDeleteThese were probably the best fish tacos I've ever had, restaurants included. Went great with the Fiesta Rice!
ReplyDeleteI made these last night. The recipe was really easy to divide in half for just two of us. I had two tacos, my boyfriend had 3, and we still have some fish filling left over. I made a quick guacamole to go on the tacos, as I am not a fan of plain avocado slices. We both enjoyed this much more than I expected we would!
ReplyDeleteThis looks really good, however, I would use Cod. Tilapia is really high in cholesterol and mercury. Bad fish!!!
ReplyDeleteI had your tacos for dinner last night (and for lunch/dinner today!) and they are absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for posting such great recipes!! I'm in love with your site!

I LOVE this recipe, but every time I make it, I burn the heck out of my pan. What am I doing wrong? Is the pan not hot enough...too hot? Should I be using something other than olive oil? Help :)
ReplyDeleteI made these today for lunch with what I had on hand...everything except the jalapenos. They were DELICIOUS. The best fish tacos I have ever made at home. I don't like all of the creamy sauces that restaurants tend to put on their fish tacos. These were so good I think I could eat them for dinner again tonight! Thank you! I have never made any recipe of yours that wasn't out of this world good.
ReplyDeleteI have made these twice now and I LOVE them! Easy and very tastey
ReplyDeleteHad these tonight....very good, but next time I will use only 1 jalapeño. Too hot for me!
ReplyDeleteMade these for dinner last night and they were fantastic. Thanks for sharing the great recipe :)
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight for my boyfriend and myself. I lied and told him I knew how to cook. (I don't! Unless you count Lean Cuisine). I followed your recipe exactly and it was so good! The pictures along the way helped, ha! He was very impressed, but I definitely owe it to you Gina. Thank you so much for sharing and we'll definitely be having these again.
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner this weekend and I couldn't believe how wonderful and tasty it was. Absolutely amazing! Thanks for the great recipe.
ReplyDeleteSo making these for dinner. They look awesome! !!
ReplyDeleteAfter stalking this site for a while, this was the first dish I made. OH MY WORD they are amazing! I still can't believe how good they are for you! I served with the Fiesta Lime Rice and Creamy Cilantro Tomatillo dressing. Divine!!! And all for 13 points!
ReplyDeleteDo you think they would be just as good with chicken? I'm not a fish girl. Or shrimp, Chili's has something like this it's so yummy. But I can make it better and healthier.
ReplyDeleteProbably the best thing I ever made, thank you for this!
ReplyDeleteMaking with catfish tonight! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna try this with some chopped cabbage and a homemade tomatillo dressing on top with some brown rice! Fingers crossed it turns out as good as it sounds! lol
ReplyDeleteSo delish! Thanks for the amazing recipe.
ReplyDeleteI just made these tonight for the first time and they were AMAZING!!!! my taste buds thank you a million times over!
ReplyDeleteI started making these as soon as you originally posted them and my boyfriend is crazy about them. He suggests them for dinner at least every other week. Tonight, for the first time, I made them for dinner while his teenage son was over. His son said they were the best fish tacos he has ever tasted and he loves fish tacos. Not a bad compliment from a teenage boy. Thank you for sharing all your amazing recipes!
ReplyDeleteReplaced the tomatoes and jalepenos with salsa. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThese are delicious. There aren't many recipes I try and repeat, ever, but this is one I've kept and love. It tastes great and is simple. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI have tried numerous recipes from skinnytaste and I have so much confidence in her recipes that I have made a new a recipe for the first time & serve at a dinner party without trying it out first. But I am soooo glad that was not the case with the cilantro lime talapia tacos. They were extemely bland..we just loaded it with salsa to recover some taste. My family was disappointed and although lots of her recipes have been hits with us..this one wasnt.
ReplyDeleteThese were so flavorful and delicious. I can't believe how easy they were to prepare. I never would've had the guts to make these without you, Gina!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I had these for dinner tonight and it was delish! I used a can of diced tomatoes and it had way too much liquid. Next time, I will use fresh tomatoes. :) Thanks for the great recipes!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this recipe... was looking to make some cilantro tacos without meat and came upon this. Going to the supermarket now! :)
ReplyDeleteMade these tonight! They were great and so easy. We don't eat garlic so we used a shallot. Thanks for all your great recipes!
ReplyDeleteHi Gina!
ReplyDeleteI am a brand new cook and absolutely love your recipes! I am going to try this for dinner tonight! Quick question since I am still learning...when you first place the tilapia into the skillet and "cook unto the flesh starts to flake" what heat setting would you allow this to initially cook on and for how long? thank you!!
My husband and I made these tonight and they were sooooo good! We added some lemon pepper and red pepper flakes and it was so yummy! Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDelete
