Virgin Mojito

Virgin Mojito Recipe

Craving a cocktail, but you’re doing a dry challenge, pregnant, or don’t drink? Enjoy this minty virgin mojito—you will love it! I love mojitos, but this one is a great alternative when I’m looking for a non-alcoholic beverage. I drank a lot of these when I was pregnant (funny because my daughter Madison loves them too). Do you miss the rum? Not really! A  mojito has such strong flavors that omitting the rum doesn’t radically change anything.

Why This Virgin Mojito Recipe Works

Gina @ Skinnytaste.com

I love my cocktails, and enjoy them on weekends when I am socializing. But let’s face it, alcohol is just empty calories and I don’t always want to waste them on a drink. That’s how I came up with this mocktail, which my kids also love.

  • Fun: Just because it’s a nonalcoholic drink, it doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun. This mojito mocktail feels festive to have at parties.
  • Versatile: You can play around with different flavors. Add strawberries, raspberries, passion fruit, or lychee for variations!
  • Great Way to Use Mint: Every summer, I always have tons of mint in my garden, and this is a great way to use it!
  • Refreshing: This mocktail is perfect way to cool off on a hot day.

What’s the difference between a nojito and mojito?

A mojito is a classic Cuban cocktail made of rum, lime, mint, and soda. A nojito is a nonalcoholic mojito without rum.

Virgin Mojito Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this mocktail, see exact amounts in the recipe card below:

virgin mojito ingredients
  • Spearmint: You’ll need 10 fresh mint leaves.
  • Lime: Cut half of a lime into three wedges.
  • Sweetener: Use your preferred sweetener, I like monk fruit sweetener, but you can use stevia, or sugar.
  • Soda: For bubbles, use club soda, lemon-lime seltzer, or sugar-free lemon-lime soda.
  • Ice: Fill your glass up with ice cubes for a cold drink.

How to Make a Virgin Mojito

Here’s the step-by-step photos to make this virgin mojito cocktail. See full measurements in the recipe card below:

  1. Muddle the mint and one lime wedge in a tall glass to release the mint oils and lime juice.
  2. Lime and Sugar: Add another lime wedge with the sweetener and muddle again.
  3. Soda: Fill the glass with ice and club soda.
  4. Serve: Stir, garnish with a few mint sprigs, and serve with a straw.

Variations:

  • Virgin Strawberry Mojito: Muddle some strawberries.
  • Raspberry Nojito: Add some muddled raspberries.
  • Ginger and Lemon Nojito: Swap the soda for ginger beer and the limes for lemon.
  • Cucumber: Muddle a few cucumber slices with the lime and mint.
  • Like things less sweet? Decrease the sugar to suit your tastes.

How to Prep for a Party

You can batch these nojitos for a party, so you don’t have to make them individually for guests.

  • Multiply the ingredients by the number of drinks you need and muddle everything in one big pitcher.
  • Right before your guests arrive, pour in the soda.
  • To serve, fill a glass with ice and pour the nojito to the top.

  1. As a newly sober person, I am so grateful for this recipe. It is so refreshing and delicious. I always appreciate your recipes. Thanks!

  2. This recipe is delicious and you wouldn’t even know that you’re missing the added alcohol with the perfect flavor combination. My husband, a huge cocktail snob, skeptically made these yesterday and was very impressed – impressed enough to make us a second batch, guilt free! We used 1.5 tsp agave nectar/drink and Sprite Zero. Fabulous!

  3. Another delicious recipe! I pulled up your site looking for a recipe and saw this on your homepage. We picked up the ingredients this morning and just made it; SO refreshing. My husband thought it was tart and added a splash of rum, lol! We also bought some strawberries so I’ll try that next! Thanks again Gina!

  4. Love these… I’ve made them like this (with mojito mix instead of muddling the mint and lime juice) and call it a fauxito!

  5. Gina, this is exactly what I need! I have followed your blog for years and just stumbled across this recipe today.  I am 5 months pregnant and can’t wait to try this to help beat the summer heat! 🙂

  6. I made a couple of these tonight for my boyfriend and I. They were so tasty!!! I wish I would have seen the last two comments here about adding strawberries to the mix. I will definitely try that next time!

  7. This is a great recipe! I've been making these every day since I first read about them. Today I added a big, red strawberry, muddled along with the mint. Great addition to original recipe. Try it!

  8. I LOVE your site!!! I've already made a few of your recipes and many more are on my list to make. My fav version of a mojito is to add 2 jumbo strawberries into the mix. Found recipe in Cosmo mag few years ago I think. Was called See you in September!

  9. I will be stocking up on limes this summer since I already have plenty of mint from the garden. This drink is light, refreshing and guilt-free.

  10. I LOVE Mojitos and can't wait to try this! I also tried something called a Cucumber Fizz while on vacation in Seattle… found a recipe for it… very fresh and great for a hot summer day! Just muddle 2 large basil leaves, 4 mint leaves, 3 small slices of cucumber, 1 tbsp of fresh lime juice and mix with sprite zero… mmmmm….

  11. I love mojitos, and, I have to admit, I like the rum taste, which I was really missing when I was pregnant. So, my girlfriend made me one with rum extract and I was hooked! It felt completely indulgent without really being so!

  12. I have been making these for my 3 pregnant friends (while I steal sips) and they all love this. It's such a wonderful, refreshing treat for their sensitive tummies. I've been using agave syrup for them, but would like to try stevia for myself.

  13. Thanks for sharing this! We have tons of mint in our garden and didn't know what to do with it all! We had Peruvian Chicken with Aji Verde, Scallion Cilantro Rice with Habaneros and Lime, and these Nojitos to drink. Thanks for such wonderful recipes!!! :O)

  14. I always make these too! I use Stevia instead of Splenda. They remind me of one of my favorite drinks when I was a kid the Lime Rickey.

  15. This is just what I needed! Lots of mint growing in the garden right now!! Going to make some tonight! WooooHOoooo!

  16. Great idea! As I lose weight, I find that I really miss a cocktail or wine around 5 o'clock, but having something in it's place is almost as good!

  17. ooo mojitos are my favorite summer drink! these are a fantastic alternative. less calories and less money spent!

  18. This looks fabulous. I new to your blog so I took some time to play catch-up with your earlier posts. I really am so glad I did. I love your recipes and the tone of your blog.I'll be back often. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings…Mary

  19. I'm so glad you posted this! I really like mojitos but not the alcohol in them. This is the perfect summer drink 🙂

  20. wow, i love mojitos too and this version sounds really refreshing. i'm gonna have to try it this weekend. thanks for posting.

  21. I LOVE Mojito's, but I certainly don't want to chug down 4 or 5 of them when I'm really really thirsty. This looks like a great alternative. All of the taste, and none of the hangover (or calories). I know someone who is pregnant who will love this as well.
