Crock Pot 3 Bean Turkey Chili

Another great chili recipe! This one uses turkey and a whole lotta beans.
I loved this easy recipe topped with a little low fat cheddar, chopped red onion and cilantro. My brother gave me his recipe and insisted I use it for my blog. I am always looking for new, great tasting, low point recipes, so I made this and he was right, it was a winner and even better the next day. Prepare this the night before and turn it on in the morning. Have a great meal when you get home. This can easily be made vegan by eliminating the turkey. Here is how easy this is to make:

Let me say that even my hubby who loves food with flavor loves your recipes.

I'm a busy person who loves to cook healthy, and try to avoid processed food as much a possible. Just browsing through your recipes, I can tell I will be coming back here often - and will be passing on the link to all my other busy friends. 21. Gina....do they really sell fat free ground turkey breast? If so, what is it made out of? Surely there must be SOME fat in ground turkey to be real turkey, no? What does it taste like? The recipe sounds fabulous. I'll be making it with low fat ground turkey. Please let me know about this fat free product you refer to...

    ReplyDelete
  22. They sell 99% fat free all white breast meat.

  26. I am curious about the serving size, is the 10.8 oz weight? I think measuring that in a measuring cup would be difficult :) Could someone let me know? Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jennifer, if you figure 1 cup = 8oz then 10 oz would be 1 and 1/4 cups. At least, that's the logic I'd use...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jennifer, 8 oz.=1 cup, so 10.8 oz= Approx. 1 1/3 cup. I believe this is correct, this is how I measure out this recipe.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I made this chili today and just had a bowl...FABULOUS..This will be my all time chili recipe..I had to come back and look at the recipe 3 times to make sure that it was only 3pts for a serving..tastes so rich and meaty. I followed the recipe exact adding a tablespoon of cumin and some red pepper flakes. Toppped with some WW shredded cheese for 2pts. Very filling meal for only 5pts. Thank you. Saturday I'm making your pasta fagoli..Can't wait.

  30. I agree, this is an awesome recipe. I have to thank my brother for this one. Not all recipes come out good in the crockpot but this one is amazing! I love that people won prizes with this!

  35. THIS WAS SOOO GOOD, I made it SuperBowl Sunday. It was SO delicious I can't get enough of it. I am planning on making it at least once a month now. There is a chili that we have in this town from a local donut shop that people drive MILES to get and I think it taste sooo much like that. It is GREAT! THANK YOU!

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Shelly- You're welcome! I made this for the SuperBowl too! It's even better the next day.

    ReplyDelete
  37. lol ours didn't make it to the next day :-\... but I am making it again tonight and doubling the recipe to ensure that it will last more than one night :)

  38. I made this earlier in the week, and it was fabulous! My 2-year old LOVED it, and has eaten the leftovers all week long. Thank you so much for the recipe, and more importantly, the blog. I love coming here and getting ideas. Everything I've made has been amazing! Keep up the great work!!!

  39. I have this in the crockpot right now and it will be done in 2 more hours....oh my, the aroma is delicious! The cleanup was SO easy and the house smells WONDERFUL right now!

    I love your recipes!!!

  40. I love this chili recipe too :) And it's even better the next day which makes a great lunch! Enjoy!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm new to cooking so forgive the dumb question.. but why does the turkey and onions have to be cooked first on a skillet? Wouldn't the crockpot cook it thoroughly in 8-12 hours?

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's ok! You can't brown meat in a crockpot. You want the turkey to be separated and browned into smaller bits. I would not recommend skipping this step.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Made your Spinach Lasagna Rolls the other nite - they were great! My husband said they looked like I bought them in the store - looked just like your picture! I love getting all your recipes - have tried many of them and haven't tried one I didn't like! Keep them coming!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I just had a question about the cooking time. Since the meat is already cooked, it still needs 6-8 hours to cook on high? That seems like a long time. I made a chicken and rice dish in the crock pot yesterday, and it only took 5 hours on low. Please let me me know, as I'm looking forward to making this, but afraid to leave it that long on high. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, that's right. The longer the better but if after less time you taste it and are happy with the results, you could always shut it off. It won't hurt your turkey by cooking it longer, it's like simmering a meat sauce all day.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am making this today, but, I didn't have chick peas so I used cannelini beans instead. Will this substitution change the points value?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi Gina, this looks absolutely awesome!

Just wondering about the can of tomato sauce?

I know there's bottles of tomato sauce, and cans of tomato paste.. or cans of tomato soup?

    ReplyDelete
  48. There are small cans of tomato sauce, Hunts makes them as well as other brands. Here's an example: http://www.walgreens.com/store/catalog/Meal-Planning/Tomato-Sauce/ID=prod1568208-product?V=G&ec=frgl_&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=sku1568197

  49. I am curious about this recipe- however how could I do it if I were to puree the beans as I am not partial to the texture of whole beans? Would I puree the beans together before crock potting it, or after- just taking out the meat from the mix before I puree? Thank you for your wonderful recipes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Michaela- I'm not a big fan of the texture of beans either, but they didn't really bother me in this after they were cooked. I would puree half the beans instead of all of them. Do it before you put them in the crock pot.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I made this recipe for my hubby and I and it was a HIT! It was the best chili I have ever made and the flavor was fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  52. This is the best chilli I have tasted. The aroma filled the house, teasing my husband and causing him to take several taste tests. He and his coworkers loved it. The toppings also really set it off!

    ReplyDelete
  53. its wonderful to go to work and you know all day your crockpot is doing its thing for you. I had this for dinner tonight and we loved it! a visiting friend even asked me for the recipe. I didnt do so good on the chicken cordon bleu but this I can handle!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Val- this is a very simple recipe! Perfect for beginners!

@Sheryl- Glad you liked it! It's almost chili season, can't wait to make chili and freeze leftovers for lunch!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi Gina,
I don't have a crock pot and wanted to know if this would work on the stove. Would I need to make any changes/substitutions?

Love the recipes. Keep up the good work :-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I made this for a fun family get together this past weekend but since we're vegetarians, I skipped the turkey but added a half cup of Quinoa and a cup of water. Hearty and delicious! Thanks for the awesome recipes!

    ReplyDelete
  57. i must have a small crock pot, this was over flowing by the time i put all the beans in. i couldnt even put the lid on, i had to make a foil "hat" for it. i hope it cooks right, does this reduce in volume as it cooks? if so maybe half way in i can put the top back on.

    ReplyDelete
  58. No, it really doesn't reduce much, so it sounds like your crock pot is smaller. The cover really needs to be on for crock pots to work, so I would take some out and maybe cook it another day or on the stove.

    ReplyDelete
  59. yeah, it doesnt reduce, and it was boiling over on to my counter top. i had to make a moat out of foil to catch the overflow. eh, ill leave it be and see how it tastes after the full 8 hours.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi there, I just found your site and cant beleive the awesome recipe's you have. And they are so easy and low in points!

I really didnt know if I would be able to lose my weight as I didnt know if I would find anything I would actually WANT to eat thats healthy! And now I feel so motivated just by your recipes!

Thank you so much and THANK god for you!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Excellent! You could still eat most of the things you love, you just have to cook them differently. After a while it becomes second nature to you. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can't wait to eat this tonight. I have to tell you I started WW almost a month ago and have lost 10 lbs so far. The majority of my dinners come from this blog. Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I made this for my father last night and he loved it thank you

    ReplyDelete
  64. Love your recipes! I've made the carrot cake, butternut squash risotto and now this. And Im only getting started! :) however, I was just at trader joe's and grabbed the only ground turkey they had. Got back home and realized it had 16 g of fat! If I make it with that turkey will it be ok? Or should I venture out for fat free ground turkey? Thanks for all of your awesome recipes!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I love this chili recipe! Putting the chopped onions and about a half an ounce of cheese on top really adds to the flavor. It's just me and my husband in the house so I gave my daughter some servings and she loved it as well. We had the leftovers two days later and it was even better the second time. This will be a new favorite! Thank you for all of your great recipes.

    ReplyDelete
  66. making this for the second time tomorrow, So delicious! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this site :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Gina,
I made this for the first time about a month ago. It now appears on my menu each week. It has just enough kick to it and is my favorite chili recipe. I love the fact that it keeps me on plan and tastes sooo good. I use the left overs on baked potatoes the next night. Thank you so much for all your recipes.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Gina,

I made this and LOVED it. I'm not a big bean person either. Next time I would take someone else's suggestion and puree half the beans, but that's just cause of my preference. I topped it with a little FF sour cream and my hubby added cheese to his and it was delicious!! My kids loved it too!! I've tried so many of your recipes and have to say that I haven't found one yet that I don't like!! Thanks for taking the time to post these amazing 'waist-friendly' meals for us people that need just a little help in the kitchen!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sounds great!! I'm definitely going to try now!!

  70. You can thank my brother for this one!! I love this recipe too, I make it often!! It's so easy.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I thought this was an awesome chili recipe. I will definitely make it again and I'm so glad I have a few servings left for the freezer! A definite winner!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hello Gina,

Is there any way you can calculate the points plus values for this recipe? It is a favorite at my house.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Gina!!!!
Thank you so much just tried this recipe and loved it I made it last night and brought it to work with me. My family also loves it and it makes plenty so we have left overs. Thanks for posting such great food TWO THUMBS UP!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. If I don't have a slow cooker, how could I do this just on the stove? Thank you so much for your wonderful recipes! All of my dinners come from your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  75. You could just let it simmer covered on low heat in a big pot for about 2 hours. You may have too add more liquid so keep an eye on it.

    ReplyDelete
  76. It sounds delicious! I am going to add a red and green pepper to bulk up on the "Free" veggies. I also drained the bean's..

    ReplyDelete
  77. I just made this recipe today and it is delicious! For those of you that like it spicy, try it with a can of Chipotles in adobo sauce with no preservatives; the taste is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! Added bonus, spicy food helps to speed up your metabolism!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Making this right now and can't wait to try it! I have LOVED every recipe from your site and can't thank you enough for all your hard work. I have lost 95 pounds on WW and your recipes have helped me SO much!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Great idea Marie! I like it hot!

Michelle, good for you!!! Keep up the great work!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Do the chille's make this chili spicy? I prefer little to no spice so I usually leave chilles out of your recipes-they are still great dishes! Also not a fan of chickpeas-can I just add kidney or double black beans?

    ReplyDelete
  81. This is so good! I made another pot and it's waiting for me at home in my crock pot - 5pm when I get off work can't come soon enough!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Does anyone know how many WW points this would be without the turkey?

    ReplyDelete
  83. This sounds good but I don't have a crockpot. How do you cook this on the stove top?

    ReplyDelete
  84. You can let it simmer covered on low on the stove about 3-4 hours.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I am interested in sodium content. Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  86. WONDERFUL! I have a tried and true less healthy chili recipe made with ground beef that my family and I love. I decided to try this. I had to use 2 cans of hot chili beans and 1 can of garbanzo's because I was out of black beans. I added 5 cloves of garlic while browning the turkey and onion. I served this over wheat rotini for the kids and I and my husband ate this straight up. We all LOVED this and actually thought it was just as good as our full fat version, if not better. WONDERFUL! I will definitely make this one again and again! Thank you Gina!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Made this chili on Sunday. So delicious and so easy - thanks for sharing. Love your recipes!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I made this today and I've got to say that this is quite honestly the best chili I've ever had. And my husband said the same thing and that's really saying something! Thanks for your wonderful recipes!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Would it matter if I cook this chili on low and double the time?

I love your recipes, it makes WW fun and exciting every week to find new and delicious recipes from your blog. I really can't thank you enough :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thank you! No that's perfectly fine!

    ReplyDelete
  91. This was SO easy and tasty! Will make again, and again.

Thank you for all you put into this website. It's the best! Great Job!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Hi Gina - this was my first recipe off your site and I must say, this recipe was DELISH!! However, I came up with 8 servings instead of 12 servings, which increased the pp+ :( I even used my digital food scale to make sure each serving was 10.8.

    ReplyDelete
  93. It's been a while since I posted this, I think the error is I used Fl oz (a little over a cup) not weight which I realize is confusing. So, the serving size is 1 1/4 cups. Does that sound right?

    ReplyDelete
  94. 1 1/4 c is 10 oz...i don't think that would have made a huge difference?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Gina, you are amazing! Love your site and can't believe how much work you've put into it. Must really be a labor of love. :-)

Just made this chili--delish!! But, when I measured the final quantity, I got only 12 cups total. Can't figure out why the quantity is so much less than yours. Any thoughts?

Thank you so very much. I've been back to WW for almost 5 months now and have lost 47lbs. Your recipes are so inspiring and enjoyable--I know they'll help me finally get to goal. Know how much we all appreciate you!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Oh my - this is SO delicious!! I thought the flavor was delicious and rich and didn't need a thing on top. I had a 3pt serving of Baked Tostitoes with it and was in Heaven!

As a few others have mentioned, I came up with 8 servings too. I figured up all the points though and come up with about 6 for each of those 8 servings - a bargain for such a satisfying meal!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ok, making this over to see how many servings I get, and I'll adjust the points if it differs.

I made this on Sat, for a Vday party I was throwing for my friends and the kids. It was a hit. I love to cook, and the fact I cook yummy healthy food is a plus. Thank you so much. You are the bomb. BTW I just found the pernil recipe. I almost fell over. Love you.

    ReplyDelete
  99. This is a delicious chili. I'm very impressed. As a note, though, your recipe says to leave it on high for 6-8 hours. I'm not sure that's a good idea, I set mine on low and it did wonderfully.

    ReplyDelete
  100. YUMMY! Just made it tonight and it was a hit for everyone in the house! Thanks for all the great recipes! LOVE your site!

    ReplyDelete
  101. This was delicious! I did add a some garlic & cumin as others have suggested. Had this w/ the roasted cauliflower and the cheddar biscuits recipes. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Made this tonight for my fiance and I. It was absolutely delicious and he loved it as well!! I can't wait to try more of your recipes!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Just wondering do you mean green chilies?? not sure if i know what chopped chiles in a can are?? i am from Canada and i havent seen these before.. guess i will have to look? Would chopped green chiles work??
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yes green chopped chilies in a can.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I made this for dinner last night. Like previous posters, I added a couple of cloves of minced garlic and a diced green pepper. Really yummy and plan to make it again.

    ReplyDelete
  106. This is my kind of recipe - simple, easy, healthy and delicious sounding. I love easy ways to make cooking simple and delicious and the slow cooker is one of the best!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I was just wondering, I use dry beans for most of my stuff instead of canned beans, do I just soak my beans like normal and then measure out what a can would be or do I measure before soaking them? Thank you so much.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I would measure them after soaking.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Gina, I LOVE your website. I plan my whole week using it. Thank you for all your hard work

    ReplyDelete
  110. Gina, if you don't have a Crock Pot and want to make this dish, how long to do you leave it to cook?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I would simmer it on low for 3-4 hours.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Gina! This recipe is amazing! My "picky" eater loved it. =)

I don't do weight watchers but just looking to eat healthy and so far I've tried 2 recipes and they've been a hit! Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Thank you Thank you Thank you for posting! I made something similar tonight and didn't keep track of the ingredients... I'm so glad I found your site ( restarted WW this week using old-already paid for meeting materials)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Gina-This recipe sounds delicious, can't wait to try it! However, I am concerned with the sodium content with all the canned beans, as my hubbie has to be careful with his salt. Could I drain all the beans and substitute a can of low sodium chicken broth to replace the lost liquid? Thanks for all your healthy tips & recipes!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. YUM!!! This was so delicious! I used dark kidney beans instead of chickpeas! I agree with everyone else...my house smelled so good! I can already see me making another pot of this within the next few days. All my friends and family want me to "share" your recipes aka I make them, they eat them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Okay, I've made this twice, once with turkey and once without. Both were just awesome. It's the best chili I've ever eaten. I love chickpeas, but it never occured to me to put them in chili.

    ReplyDelete
  117. We've made this twice now, and it's wonderful. Pepper Jack adds a nice kick instead of the cheddar. My mom has her doubts about "diet chili", but even my dad conceded that this is good!

    ReplyDelete
  118. heya Gina - Made this last night. came up with 8 servings when I weighed it on my digital scale and portioned it out to individual cups. tastes great, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I got almost 9 servings weighing it on my food scale. Does this change points?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Is there a substitute for chickpeas? My fiance hates them! I just don't want to add tons of calories.

    ReplyDelete
  121. This was so good!! My whole family loved it! and i loved how the cilantro really blended the flavors together well! def making again! thanks for all these great recipes!

    ReplyDelete
  122. This was a very good recipe and so easy. I loved it, served over rice or my daughter over spaghetti and cheese. Yummy. I just wanted to say thank you for this skinny recipes and all the nutrition posted, I appreciate it!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Do you know what size crock-pot for this recipe? I have the smaller, 2.5-3 quart one.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I've got this in the crock pot right now! I used my own beans that I cooked from scratch with no salt added :) This is gonna be good~

@anonymous wondering about the size of the crock pot - I have the standard-sized crock pot (I can't find a quart number anywhere) and it's leaving about 2 inches of empty space at the top right now. If yours is smaller than the standard size, I don't think this recipe will fit.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I would say its about 3.5. My crock pot is a 7qt and it fills it up half way. I double the recipe and it spills over the top a little after a couple hours.. I don't know if that helps at all.

    ReplyDelete
  126. To my friends, I call your site my favorite secret website. I always am using your recipes and can't wait to try this one!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Maybe I did something wrong or missed a step (?), but this was quite bland made exactly as the recipe calls... added some garlic, cumin, chipotle and a few other seasonings I can't remember. Much better! Would definitely make it again with those quick adjustments.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I made this yesterday and it was so good, I brought some in for lunch today.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I made this tonight and am thankfully adding this to one of my fav Gina recipes. Having makeover spinach gratin on my thanksgiving table also :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. Gina, i added mole to mine!!! you need mole recipes!

    ReplyDelete
  131. So I just made this TONIGHT. Was worried that it was going to be to many tomatoes. I couldn't find chilli's with out tomatoes mixed in so I had a bunch, but most of them cooked down so much that the chunks that were left were minimal. I am learning to love tomatotes in things!! Such a delicious and hearty chilli. My next thing to do is to drain off some of the juice and make it into an enchalada or sorts! GREAT RECIPE!!

  132. Hi Gina! I love your blog; I always look to your site first when I'm planning dinner! I just got a new crockpot and this is the first recipe I'm going to try. My crockpot is 3.5 quart, is that big enough or will I have to scale this recipe down? Thanks so much!

  133. Love the site! Thanks!! The recipe looks yummy, can't wait to try it but where do you find fat free turkey?

  134. This would work in a 6 quart so yes, you will have to scale it down.

    Sorry, 99% fat free turkey.

  135. Do you really cook it on HIGH for 6-8 hours? I cook mine on low and it comes out perfect. I guess crockpots vary. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe! Peggy

Thanks!

Yes, that's right. The longer the better but if after less time you taste it and are happy with the results, you could always shut it off. It won't hurt your turkey by cooking it longer, it's like simmering a meat sauce all day.

  137. Great recipe! I was skeptical about the cooking time as well, but it turned out perfect after 6 hours on high. Keep up the great work.

  138. Do you know if I can cook this in a crockpot?

  139. Does it have to be 6-8 hours on high? Wouldn't it over cook? What is the reason for being on high for so long?

  140. Made the chili for dinner last night. We all loved it, great recipe. The only change I made was adding a couple cloves of garlic in the mix. We cooked in the crock pot on low for 8 hours and it turned out fine.

  141. I hope this question hasn't been asked yet, but can this be cooked on the stovetop vs. a crockpot? If so, for how long? I don't have a crockpot but would love to try the recipe!

  142. My fiancee made this chili today because she's on WW and we're both eating healthier. It was awesome and I'm a tough customer but I'm sold!

  146. Love how awesome you are, just checking to see if the points or serving size changed as you commented that you were double checking last February.
    Thanks for making WW delicious!

  147. I thought it was very delicious and hearty for the most part, but next time I will leave out the chickpeas (too bean-y for our taste), and add a chopped jalapeno for more spice. All in all, I gave it an 8 out of 10!

  148. DANG (not the word I really used)...I used 93/7 lean ground turkey, not turkey breast. Not really worried about the calories/point difference because I'm making it for work. I'm worried about how its going to turn out! Crap! (again, not the word I'm using at the moment. Oh well, its in the crock pot. Cooking it a night early because "it's always better after a day!". Wish me luck!
