I love fish tacos, some favorites are Cilantro Lime Fish Tacos, Blackened Fish Tacos and Lobster Tacos. Since my family is obsessed Tzatziki sauce (we eat it with everything!) I thought why not make fish tacos with a Greek twist. Bake them in the oven or make them in the air fryer! Directions provided both ways.

Making the Greek yogurt fish taco sauce (Tzatziki) from scratch is easy and perfect for fresh summer cucumbers and herbs! Partnering with Stonyfield, my favorite organic yogurt brand to create this easy yogurt sauce with their Stonyfield Plain 0% Fat Greek Yogurt but their Whole Milk Greek Plain would be great too. I used spearmint and dill from my garden, but you can try fresh chives or parsley in place of the mint. The whole dish is ready in under 30 minutes, if you use your air fryer even quicker!

Rather than using corn tortillas, I went with flour tortillas although either can be used. The fish tacos have a simple slaw and lemon wedged for squeezing over the top.

Why Purchase Organic Dairy?

Ingredients

For the fish:

  • 12 ounces boneless, skinless white fish fillets such as cod, halibut, branzino
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup panko crumbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • olive oil spray

For the tacos:

  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 3 cups chopped white cabbage
  • fresh dill, for topping
  • 8 small flour tortillas, warmed (such as mission street taco flour tortillas)
  • 8 lemon wedges, for serving

Mint Tzatziki sauce:

  • 3/4 cup Stonyfield Plain 0% Fat Greek Yogurt
  • 1/3 cup grated cucumber, seeds and skin removed (from 1 medium)
  • 1 small clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/4 + 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • fresh black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Place cucumber in a mini food processor or grate with a box cheese grater. Drain the liquid from the cucumber in a metal strainer and use the back of a spoon to help squeeze out any excess liquid.
  • Combine with the yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, mint, dill, salt, pepper and refrigerate until read to eat.
  • Season fish with 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cut into 8 strips.
  • Place flour on a plate and egg in a shallow bowl. On another plate, combine panko with remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, garlic powder and oregano.

Air Fryer Method:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400F. Coat the fish pieces in the flour, shaking off the excess, then into the egg, then into the panko and onto a board lined with parchment or wax paper. Spray both sides of the fish with oil then transfer to the basket and cook in a single layer 4 minutes, turn and cook 2 to 3 more minutes, until golden and crisp.

Oven Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 425F. Coat the fish pieces in the flour, shaking off the excess, then into the egg, then into the panko and onto a board lined with parchment or wax paper. Spray both sides of the fish with oil then transfer to a baking sheet and cook in a single layer 5 to 6 minutes, turn and cook 5 to 6 more minutes, until golden and crisp.
  • To serve, place 1/4 cup cabbage over each tortilla, top with a piece of fish, tzatziki, tomatoes, red onion and squeeze fresh lemon juice over everything.

  7. Fish tacos are one of my hubby’s favorites, but he’s not so much a Greek food fan. I used the recipe for making the crispy fish using cod and cooking in my air fryer. The results of the fish were absolute perfection! The fish was cooked just right and the crust was browned and crispy. I am a huge fan! So easy to make, and so satisfying to eat!

    For my hubby’s sake, I broke with the remainder of the recipe (which sounds really great, by the way) complementing your fish with simple pickled red onion, Peruvian green sauce (it’s made with a base of cilantro, yogurt, and jalapenos) and shredded lettuce. Thanks for the great fish recipe!!

  8. Gina – these were delicious! This recipe is going into regular rotation. It’s a perfect summer meal. Loved the zero point tzatziki sauce. Plus the pandemic has taught me to use the freezer more effectively and I now keep frozen cod on hand at all times so that makes it an easy recipe to “throw down” if I have to. The only thing I don’t normally have is cabbage – do you think raw spinach might work there in a pinch? If I’m planning on making it I would absolutely do the cabbage as it gave it a great crunch.

  9. These were good. The fish was excellent in the air fryer. For our personal taste, a little on the blander side, will add more onions or even some jalapenos etc next time. The fish was wonderful though and quite quick and easy. .

  10. Huge fan, Gina, but this one didn’t quite do it for me. I felt it was lacking in flavor a bit… or maybe a bit dry, which surprised me based on the ingredients. It could have been down to the tortillas I used, not sure. That said, the fish cooked great in the air fryer and had a good flavor. If I make again, I might use a whole pound of fish to see if I can spread out that flavor a bit more.

  13. We made these for dinner tonight, but with a small swap due to what we had on hand during COVID-19. Instead of the white fish, we already salmon fillets in the freezer, so we used those and grilled them. I put them on some foil (sprayed with EVOO), then seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and oregano – same as the original recipe, minus the breading. The tzatziki was really good…and that’s coming from a Greek girl!

  18. These were the best things I have ever eaten. I honestly wasn’t sure of the flavor combo but it was amazing. You are a genius!!!! I didn’t even miss the cheese. I made it with fresh cod. My kids who aren’t fish eaters ate this with chicken breast said it was really really good too.

  19. LOVE! I used this recipe yesterday for Taco Tuesday, which is the most important day of the week in our family. They were amazing!! I love how easy it was to cook the fish in the air fryer (I used cod, and fried for 4 min on each side to make them extra crispy) and the Tzatziki sauce was soooo good! I’ve never made the sauce before but I love that it is made with Greek Yogurt, and I love how you have calculated the WW points. I will be making these often. Thank you!!

  21. I enjoyed everything about this recipe with the exception of the Tzatziki. I made the mistake of following the recipe in regards to the salt (actually used a little less than the recommended amount, about 1/4 teaspoon). Next time I will make sure to add salt to taste, rather than following the content as listed in the recipe. Otherwise, like I mentioned, recipe was perfect with Halibut.

  22. This was so delicious! The breading was light and perfectly complemented the zesty lemon juice and creamy tzatsiki. I used cod and it worked great! 5 stars!

  23. GREAT!!! I used halibut. I used whole wheat seasoned breadcrumbs because that’s what I had in the pantry and left out the extra seasoning since the crumbs were already seasoned. I was a little intimated because I don’t usually work with fish but it’s really no harder than chicken. Had the leftover fish sightly warmed up mixed with the leftover tomatoes and onions with the leftover sauce for lunch today. SO GOOD. might be better the second day even!

  24. Any advice if it needs to be a little bit thicker? I did drain the cukes but it still seems a little more watery 

    • I use a clean dish towel and squeeze out all the excess liquid from the cucumber when I make Tzatziki. I have been making tzatziki for years and that is what works best for me.

  25. I have a friend who gives me loads of rainbow trout. I even know how to fillet them! Can I use it in this recipe? The recipe looks terrific!
