This tropical fruit salad, made with fresh papaya, mango, pineapple, bananas and grated coconut is the best tasting fruit salad... EVER!!Tropical Fruit Salad

When I need a healthy dessert to bring to a party, fruit salad is my go-to. I always use what’s in season or available, but my favorite is usually this tropical fruit salad made with fresh papaya, mango, pineapple, bananas and grated coconut. In the autumn months, I love this grape fruit salad, and for a nostalgic salad, I love making this fruit ambrosia.

This tropical fruit salad, made with fresh papaya, mango, pineapple, bananas and grated coconut is the best tasting fruit salad... EVER!!

Fruit salad always makes me think of my Dad, when I was younger he made a great big bowl of fresh fruit salad just about every night. It’s the perfect dessert because it’s all natural, made with nothing but fruit – it doesn’t get cleaner than that! In my past life I must have lived on a tropical island somewhere; the climate, blue oceans, palm trees, and sweet tropical fruit are my idea of a perfect world. Thank goodness we can get papayas, mangoes, coconut and pineapples here in the states.

Make Ahead

This tropical fruit salad  makes a great big bowl, big enough to feed a crowd so it’s perfect to bring to a picnic, potluck or to serve at a backyard BBQ. This is easy enough for anyone to make – if you can use a knife, you can make this salad. The bananas are added just before serving so they don’t turn brown.

Variations:

If you can get your hands on other tropical fruits, try adding fresh guanabana (sour sop), guava or passion fruit.

Is fruit salad a healthy snack?

Fruit salad is super healthy, naturally low-fat, low-sodium, gluten-free, vegan and paleo friendly. Yes, there is sugar in fruit, but it’s natural and unprocessed, and loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, phytonutrients and fiber. Unless you have to watch your sugar for health reason, the USDA suggests you eat about 1-1/2 to 2 cups of fruit a day.

  1. How are you reserving the juice from a fresh pineapple? When I cut one I don’t get much juice, if any at all.

  3. I made this today. I didn't have any papaya so I used strawberries instead. Delicious!! I will make this often at ZERO WW points. Thanks!!

  4. I seem to have a problem picking good mangoes and papayas from the store. Either they're not ripe enough or too ripe; they're never as good as if I have them at a restaurant. Any suggestions would be great. We've bitten into many a nasty piece of fruit and have had zero success trying to make mango lassis at home.

Made this tonight….sooo amazing! I usually hate papaya but I decided to try it in the salad….after a few hrs of chilling it totally mingled up the pineapple and banana flavors and tasted MUCH better!Such a great break from the usual melon and berry based salads…the mango and banana add such a creamy silky texture too! 🙂

Right? I agree, the papaya gets so sweet from the pinapple and the texture from the mango and banana, delicious! Wish I had more right now.

We always enjoy tropical fruit salads whenever the ingredients are in season. And it always reminds me of my home, in Malaysia :)Great use of coconut as a bowl 🙂

  7. This looks great and is a fun change from my usual fruit salad! I'll probably toss the bananas in some lemon juice to slow the browning so I can bring it for work lunches. Love how it looks served in the coconut!

My Dad always made a big bowl of fruit salad at least a few times a week and I need to start that tradition around here!

  9. I am so disappointed by your website. I am sorry but these are not what I consider recipes. I know you are working hard on the cookbook but between this, the advertising and everything, I am done. And yes, I figure you are going to delete this comment but at least, now you know what I think.

Is this real life? I've found so many wonderful recipes on this site that weren't just healthy but tasted good. I visit this blog daily and cook a lot of recipes from Skinnytaste. Going out of your way to share your dissapointment is a little lame…just click the x at the top of the page and find a different blog to read.

    2. To complain about a website that you access for free is ridiculous. If you don't like it, don't use it. I also agree with the previous comment, this site is great and has many great recipes. I lost over 100 pounds on WW in no small part due to the great recipes on this site. As far as complaining about the advertising, Gina obviously puts a lot of time into this website so I do not in any way bregrudge her making money on it. I would rather look at advertisements than have to pay for the site.

    3. Wow I am just in complete shock by this comment. I love all of the skinny taste recipes I have ever tried and so doesn't my boyfriend who is not a WW member. I am assuming this person hasn't visited many food blogs because, this is truly my favorite it is well organized, great pictures, honest, and most important delicious recipes.

    4. Everybody hold on just one second. I can completely understand why DeborahK was being so critical, check out her food blog.

I love all you, thanks for defending me : )

DeborahK has been trolling around here for months, I've noticed here blogger profile and her comments are always nasty. I actually feel sorry for this person, she must be really bored with her life that she actually has the time to do this.

    6. I have to say that I love your site. I have lost 45 lbs so far by incorporating your recipes into my weekly routine along with exercise. I serve them to my entire family and they love them too. I have turned countless people on to your site after they have asked me what I am doing. They have all told me how much they love it too! Thank you!

    7. I LOVE everything about your blog. The recipes are incredible and I am shocked to read that this person doesn't consider these recipes. Furthermore, you are "paisa" and I love knowing I can adapt the recipes I grew up eating without the guilt. Keep up the good work and ignore "the haters". I have lots of those on my blog too and mine is about a totally different subject. Can't make everybody happy, but you are making A LOT of us very happy! Sigue adelante amiga!

    8. I am not on WW and not necessarily trying to LOSE weight but overall just trying to live a healthy lifestyle. This website is AMAZING!! I only just started cooking about a year ago and have learned so much about food substitution and healthy meal preparation through Gina's recipes. I love the variety of types of recipes for every meal, even shakes (Skinny Green Monster <3). Everything I have made has been a hit with all that I am kind enough to share with! I recommend to all my friends that they make SkinnyTaste recipes and everyone LOVES them (my personal all time favorite is Kale and Mushroom Lasagna Rollups – to DIE for). All recipes I have made are FULL of flavor and anyone can make them! Can't wait to try this fruit salad – Looks delish. Keep 'em coming Gina! We love it! and THANK YOU! 🙂

    9. Glad to hear she's just a troll, but sorry she's trolling all the same.

I LOVE your site and have made many, many recipes since March of last year. I owe a chunk of my weight loss success to you and ST!

    10. Actually, I made plenty of nice comments on other recipes, so please don't dramatise everything here and make me look evil. I have used Skinnytaste and have many recipes that I love and commented on. I was just making one comment about how disappointed I was about your latest recipes.

It's sad to me to think that if someone makes one honest comment, you think it's just a bored person with no life.

  10. Oh man, there is nothing like a refreshing fruit salad on a hot sumer day. Especially here in MIami. Great idea for a snack. Thank you from 3girls1apple.com

  11. I always find that having fruit pre-cut helps my family to eat more of it…. so I love fruit salads. Papaya and Mangoes are two fruits I've never used… Looking forward to trying this Tropical Salad. And always love to find recipes with ZERO Weight Watchers Points. 🙂

This sounds so good! I have some frozen fruit from TJ's that I can use with fresh. Been baking a lot so this is great timing!

  13. Looks like a delicious fruit salad. I just have a question on the points. Why are you quoting 3 ww points plus if fruit is Zero- the coconut seems minimal if the serving size is 10?

She probably uses the recipe builder for WW. I find when I put in a recipe that contains only veggies or fruit it still adds points. Now I exclude fruit and veggies from the builder because I still count them as 0 points.

    2. Thanks-Through Thick and Thin Girls and Gina.
      Yay! for 0 points
Love all your recipes Gina – have lost 25 lbs this year by mostly serving up your wonderful recipes to my family.
