Carrot Banana Protein Smoothie

Carrot Banana Protein Smoothie

I love the convenience of a protein shake when I need something fast and I’m trying to eat enough protein during the day. I created this post-workout protein shake because I hate the artificial flavors of all the flavored brands I’ve tried—and I’ve tried a ton of them! This Carrot and Banana Smoothie with milk provides many benefits. I used unflavored pea protein powder, a ripe banana for sweetness and nutrients like potassium and vitamin B6, carrots for beta carotene, flax for extra fiber, turmeric, and almond milk. It’s a delicious, plant-based, high-protein breakfast recipe!! For more banana smoothie recipes, try my Peach Banana Green Smoothie, Blueberry Banana PB Smoothie, and Banana Date Smoothie.

What do I put in a smoothie for protein?

Protein powder will give you the biggest bang for your buck since it’s an easy way to add protein. Some other high-protein ingredients are below:

  • Dairy milk
  • Flax and chia seeds
  • Cottage cheese
  • Greek yogurt
  • Peanut butter powder

Protein Smoothie Ingredients

  • Milk: Almond milk keeps this smoothie dairy-free. Use any nut-milk or plant based milk you like!
  • Protein Powder: I don’t love the taste of flavored protein powder, so I typically use an unflavored one. I like this Healthier Comforts pea protein (a great vegan option), but whey protein works too.
  • Banana: Make sure your banana is very ripe for a sweeter smoothie. It should be mostly brown.
  • Carrots: Half of a large carrot will work if you don’t have two baby carrots.
  • Ground Flax provides fiber, protein, and many vitamins and minerals, like thiamine and copper.
  • Turmeric not only gives this carrot and banana smoothie a pretty golden hue but is also an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Ice: If you like a thicker, smoother consistency, start with one cup of ice cubes and add more as needed.
  • Optional, add stevia, honey or monk fruit sweetener if you want a sweeter smoothie.

How to Make a Carrot Banana Protein Smoothie

It doesn’t get much easier than a smoothie. Just throw all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth.

Variations

  • Seeds: Swap ground flax with chia seeds.
  • Milk: Use your milk of choice.
  • Banana: It’s OK to use frozen bananas if you have them in your freezer.
  • Vegetables: For more veggies, add some frozen cauliflower or cauliflower rice. It shouldn’t affect the taste.
  • Collagen powder is easy to mix into smoothies. Add a scoop for improved bone strength, hair and nail health, and skin hydration.

Can you prep smoothies ahead of time?

This banana protein smoothie is best made right before you drink it, but you can prep it in advance. Put all the ingredients except the ice in the blender the night before and refrigerate it. In the morning, add the ice and blend.

That sounds like a delicious and wholesome combo! 🥕🍌💪
I love adding a little raw forest honey for natural sweetness 🍯
We’ve been using ours from forest sources—really enhances the flavor
If anyone’s curious, happy to share more 😊

  2. Smoothie was sooooo good and so filling. I made the recipe as written and added a washed cut up orange and a small piece of celery to my blender. Gave it a good whirl. The shake was nice and thick without the need to add sweetener. WW points 6

  3. Made it this morning. I upped the carrots a bit, added ginger, a couple of tablespoon of yogurt to thicken. It was good and filling. I’m thinking I’ll add orange next time for a little creamscicle flavor.

  4. Really liked this! Used Orgain vanilla protein powder and added 1/2 tsp of pumpkin spice. No need for sweetener with the vanilla protein powder.

  5. Question
Need high protein breki ideas. I don’t eat eggs really. Peas is #1 on food sensitivity list and I’m DF. Any subs for this item ? Tnx

    1. If you tolerate dairy well, Ballerina Farms makes a protein powder that goes over well in our family. Its got pretty clean ingredients, bovine colostrum, and the flavored ones are sweetened with monk fruit.

  6. Any alternative to the peanut powder? We have an allergy in the family and keep peanut out of the house.

  7. Recipe was good. I don’t care for my pea protein, but honestly this was a refreshing smoothie. East fast. I used a full carrot and some maple syrup. The pea protein burns my throat but I needed to up my protein

  8. I recently tried the Carrot Banana Protein Smoothie from Skinnytaste, and it’s become my go-to breakfast! The blend of carrots and banana creates a refreshing taste, and the protein keeps me full all morning. For an extra protein boost, I sometimes add a scoop of Kodiak Cakes’ protein powder (https://kodiakcakes.com). It’s a delicious and nutritious way to kickstart my day!

    1. Check your WW program guide or contact a telephone coach for the WW position on smoothies. Their smoothie points are counted differently than other recipes.

    2. Weight Watchers has this thing about smoothies that I’ve never quite understood even though their explanation has been given to me repeatedly. Something about the blending process and the fiber or something. No one in our WW group understands their rationale!😵‍💫

  9. I did not have any protein powder on hand so I used one packet of Vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast and did not use any sweeteners, as I felt adding that packet would be sweet enough. It worked out nicely and was not overly sweet at all. Next time I’ll remember to buy the protein powder!

  10. This was a great change to mix up the usual to go protein smoothies post workout . And was surprised and how good this was- I did add a dash of honey to sweeten it for the teens and had to use whey protein but otherwise kept your recipe the same and as suggested added the daily collagen scoop in here today!

  11. I usually do more tropical fruit and berry smoothies so this was a really nice change of pace! I used 4 baby carrots and probably could have done a couple more. Added a small squirt of agave nectar but it wasn’t necessary. Will definitely make again!

  12. I will definitely make this again! I used my vanilla protein powder (stevia sweetened) so it was plenty sweet.

  13. YUM😋👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼♥️ thank You FOR SHARING Gina😊Looks Amazing 👍🏼And SO GOOD For You ❗️G-d♥️Bless

  14. I plan on making this week, however You need to add a dash of pepper to the recipe. I know it’s weird but the only way to get the antioxidant benefits from turmeric is for it to be paired with black pepper.
