The cutest healthy Halloween treat! Frozen banana + white chocolate = these adorable ghost pops!

Frozen Banana Ghost Pops

Frozen Banana Ghost Pops

These Frozen Boo-nana Pops are the cutest healthy Halloween treat! Made with just two ingredients—bananas and white chocolate—they’re creamy, naturally sweet, and a hit with kids and adults alike. Perfect for Halloween parties, after-school snacks, or a fun weekend project with your little ones.

I love Halloween treats that are festive but still on the lighter side. These banana pops are quick to make, freezer-friendly, and so much fun to decorate—let the kids help dip the bananas and add chocolate chip “eyes.” Once frozen, they taste like mini banana ice cream pops! You can even drizzle a little dark chocolate on top or roll them in coconut for a “mummy” effect. More easy Halloween party ideas you might enjoy are these Mummy Jalapeno Poppers and these French Bread Pizza Mummies!

Why You’ll Love These Boo-nana Pops

Gina @ Skinnytaste.com

I used to make these for Madison when she was little. Just two ingredients and so fun to make with kids — dip frozen banana halves in melted white chocolate, add mini chocolate chip eyes, and freeze until set. Sweet, creamy, and spooky-cute!

  •  Just two ingredients — frozen bananas and white chocolate
  • Kid-friendly — a fun, no-bake activity for little hands
  • Healthier dessert — using bananas as the base
  • Make ahead — store in the freezer for a grab-and-go treat
  • Festive and adorable — perfect for Halloween parties

Ingredients

  • Bananas – Use firm, ripe (not overripe) bananas so they hold their shape when frozen.
  • White chocolate – Melted for coating; you can use chips or a chopped bar.
  • Mini chocolate chips – For the spooky little “eyes.”

How to Make Frozen Boo-nana Pops

  1. Prep the bananas: Peel and cut each banana in half crosswise, then lengthwise. Insert a popsicle stick or lollipop stick into quarter.
  2. Freeze: Lay the bananas on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until solid, about 2 hours.
  3. Melt the chocolate: In a microwave-safe cup, melt white chocolate in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  4. Dip and decorate: Working quickly, dip each frozen banana pop in melted chocolate, then add mini chocolate chip “eyes.”
  5. Freeze again: Return to the baking sheet and freeze until set.

That’s it! The result is a frosty, creamy treat that’s equal parts spooky and sweet.

This makes four pops but you will have plenty of extra chocolate if you want to make more. Each banana has about 1/2 oz of chocolate, that is how I based the nutritional info.

How to Serve

Serve these ghostly pops straight from the freezer at your next Halloween party or as a light dessert after dinner. They’re a great alternative to candy and always a hit with kids (and adults who want something a little lighter).

  1. This is a wonderfully fun recipe. I always like simplicity at its best and yet yummy! Thanks for creating sharing this recipe and introduce it to the world 🙂

The chocolate was too thick to dip the bananas in. I tried adding a little milk, but after freezing they were not very white because the chocolate coating was thin. Also, the sticks would not stay in the bananas.
But despite those problems, it was a cute project and my 5 year old loved it.

    1. If you added more chips and melted them , you would have more creamy texture because less chips gets thicker as you said.

  3. What about dipping in yogurt? Would it freeze the same? These look absolutely delicious but I think the sugar content is just a tad too high for my two year olds so wondering if there was a lower sugar alternative.

  4. I see a lot of + comments & some – comments as well. That's normal, but a lot of them are just plain brainless. The recipe calls for white chocolate, & it is effortless too melt them on the stove & yes the ones in the craft store or even Walmart melt nice & smooth. Those are candy melts not baking morsels. As for the freezer part, well obviously something that comes out of the freezer requires thawing eventually, so duh, eat up. They weren't meant to last forever. FYI people, it's more of a kid's recipe, therefore they wouldn't have time to melt, they will be eaten asap. If you dont like the mess, follow the recipe minus the freezer, than it's an adult party pleaser minus the goo.

  5. I was really hoping this would work out but only the first couple worked, then my bananas started to melt and caused the chocolate to seize. Now I have a cup of seized chocolate yuck and 2 thick white chocolate shells filled with banana goo. Ugh. And what can I do with seized chocolate????

  6. My initial entry was a little negative on this recipe (2 posts up on 10/27/12). BUT I love Gina and all her recipes so I'm coming back to review my last attempt with this recipe. Now I'm addicted and keep these pops in the freezer all the time! Definitely scratch the white chips/morsels and use the white chocolate melties – the ones at craft stores meant for candy making. They melted nice and smooth! Yummy, success!

  7. Tried this and it was a total fail. I used choc chips since the recipe didn't specify what type of white choc to use. First try burned the choc. Had to go back to the store to buy more chips. Tried again and the bananas were thawing out faster than I get dip them and kept breaking off into the white choc. I had bits of mushed banana in the white choc. I gave up. I'm done. I'm glad I didn't promise my child's class that I'd bring a treat tomorrow for Halloween so at least they won't be disappointed but I'm at least $20 in the hole and frustrated.

  8. This was my first skinnytaste recipe that I didn't really like. The end product was just ok, but it took me several tries to get there. Melting white chocolate morsels/chips, per the instructions, did not work for me. After the 3rd interval of 30 seconds warming in the microwave, the chocolate started to dry up and burn. Per another review, I ended up adding a little milk to my 3rd attempt which helped but yellowed the white chocolate a bit. Will try the white chocolate melties next year, per Gina's notes a few entries above.

  9. I am leaving in a bit to go to a class party. Mine started to that just trying to get them coated. I would say this works for a small group but not thinking they will travel well at all. 🙁

  10. We did these and loved them but after 20 mins they became a mushy unappetizing mess from the thaw. Have you tried not freezing them? Would that work? For class parties they just won't get eaten in 20 mins. I need them to last longer

  11. Happy Tasty Tuesday! We love this recipe and it is featured on our Halloween Recipes! Thanks so much for sharing!

  12. This is a great idea, I'm going to try it out this weekend, I'm sure my daughter (and me and the wife) will love them.

  13. I love your site, but this recipe shouldn't be marked as vegan because of the milk in the white chocolate, fyi casein=milk….Unless this uses a milk free white chocolate, in which case I would love to know the brand because it seems near impossible to find any^^

I'm wondering those that used chips if they were white chocolate. I recall that happening to me once, and it turned out it was white candy, not chocolate.

For this I used the white chocolate melties like you use to make chocolate lolly pops. They melt beautifully.

  15. To Emmalie and Aidan's Mom: This is spooky — I did the exact same things as you in the exact same order. Bought white chocolate chips, over done in microwave — tried double boil system, didn't melt, and then went out and got wafers. Glad I wasn't alone!

  16. Just made these for a third grade Halloween party. They are quick and so cute. My 5 yr old thinks they are fabulous

Ok, I went out and bought the melting chips, the wafers, and they worked exactly as shown above. Skip the chips and go for the wafers!
    Would that change the points?

I am so disappointed in this recipe. I was so excited to try this out. The first package I did went in the mic, stirred every 30 seconds, the chocolate never got smooth, just cooked and hard. I tried again on the stove top. I melted them over low heat, again, they never really got smooth, they just solidified into a large mass. So here I sit, in tears because this was to be the Halloween treat for my kids classes, $12 poorer and nothing to show for it.

  19. made these today ~ they were a hit with my boys and the neighbor kids!!! what a great treat! thanks so much 🙂

  20. cute!! I make semi-sweet chocolate frozen banana pops in the summer, but never thought of using white chocolate and turning them in to Boo pops! _This_ is awesome 🙂

  21. My chips didn't melt either. :/ Maybe they were stale or I tried to melt too few? I love this idea though and I will defintely try again!

  22. How cute. Made orange colored white chocolate-covered strawberry pumpkins for a party with a food contest. It was postponed and I wondered how to up my game… you gave me the perfect solution.

One a side note for the pp, if you want to color the white chocolate, I'd recommend you use gel or paste food coloring. Liquid causes the white chocolate to "seize" and glump… not dippable. Sigh.

You have to be careful in the microwave, melt in 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between. It doesn't take very long.

  24. I made them today.I tried doing the chocolate in the microwave and it didn't melt right and burned. So I melted it on the stove and added oil to it.The chocolate finally melted. Hope they are tasty! They look cute 🙂

  25. Have the bananas in the freezer now. My bananas were small and first one I quartered and try putting the sticks in-broke so I just halved mine.

  27. I made these today 🙂 With some Low Fat Yogurt 🙂 worked great and harden Wonderfully!! Too Late to have one now, but looking forward to trying one tomorrow 🙂

  28. I made these today! While melting the white chocolate chips, they got too hot and the mixture got hard. I added some milk to thin it out and make it "dippable".

  29. I bet this could be done by coloring white chocolate chips with orange food coloring, and green decorating gel for eyes nose, and mouth.

  30. I am sure my little girl will love the "dip the banana part". And of course, she will continuously nag me with "is it ready mom?" questions while the bananas are getting frozen…
Thanks for the post. I love fresh fruits as treats for the kids.

You're daughter is adorable. I'm making these for my Israeli grandkids when I go there. They love to watch Casper the Ghost DVDs. We'll have so much fun and my daughter can take time out…

  32. I'm on vacation right now, but definitely bookmarked this one. My kids are grown, but I sure would enjoy at 3 points+ snack from the freezer once in a while. Did you simply melt white chocolate chips to get the dip?

  33. Oh, I am making these today! Thanks for the idea. If you are in a rush and can't put the eyes on right away.

    Thanks 🙂

I'm sure Dark chocolate ghosts with white eyes would be just as cute!

If you wrap them in plastic baggies, they should last a few weeks in the freezer.

perfect timing on this recipe! going to make them for treat day at school on thursday! thanks again for saving me 🙂 happy halloween!

  36. haha too cute! I love this idea. For those that are allergic to chocolate, I bet melted coconut butter would work! Totally going to try and make these today!

  37. Ahhh! So cute!! I wonder if I can get the hubby to eat this one or if he will insist on a dark chocolate ghost so I can avoid the whole "white chocolate isn't chocolate" lecture. LOL If he doesn't eat it, I WILL!

  38. What a great idea! I always feel better about giving kids treats like this. They're sweet enough to be special, but also full of fruit. Perfect!
