Guilt-free crispy grilled "fries" made right outside on the grill!
When the weather gets hot in New York, I like to take the cooking outside. Grilling is usually my husband's job, but lately I've been having fun exploring the many things you can make outside on the grill all on my own, it's really not that hard!
Take these fries, who says you can't make fries outside on the grill? They turn out crispy and delicious without deep frying or heating up the kitchen and you can even grill your turkey burgers along side them.
Yes, you can have your carbs, just have them in moderation. Serve them with some homemade ketchup and enjoy!!
PS- You can find the crinkle cutter on Amazon!

Calories: 172.4 • Fat: 4.8 g • Protein: 3.5 g • Carb: 29.3 g • Fiber: 3.1 g • Sugar: 1.8 g
Sodium: 11.1 mg (without salt)
Ingredients:
- 2 (13 oz total) medium russet potatoes, washed
- 2 tsp olive oil
- sea salt and fresh cracked pepper
Directions:
Preheat grill to medium-high heat (an indoor grill would work too).
Cut potatoes into 1/4-inch thick slices. I used a fancy crinkle knife with ridges but straight cuts are fine. Toss the potatoes with olive oil. Add salt, and pepper to your taste.
Reduce heat on the grill to medium and lay the potatoes slices straight onto the grill; close the lid. Cook until the potatoes are golden on one side, about 6 to 10 minutes, making sure they don't burn and adjusting flame accordingly. Turn and cook until tender inside when pierced with a fork, but slightly crisp and golden brown on the outside. Remove from grill, and serve immediately.

So fancy! Makes me want one of those knives!
ReplyDeletealso made a batch of grilled sweet potatoes
DeleteSo simple to make! I might add a little seasoned salt (minus the sugar) to add a little flavor. Then I won't need the ketchup!
ReplyDeleteThese look so yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteyummmmmm
ReplyDeleteWe make these all of the time....and I love them! We sometimes just spray them with Pam too! But we don't have the fancy ridges! I love your recipes!
ReplyDeleteI think I just drooled a little bit!
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic!! Such a great way to get the crispiness without frying!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get that knife?! I need one of those!
ReplyDeleteI got my knife at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $2.99!
Deletethis looks awesome! Can't wait to try them!
ReplyDeleteYum! Why haven't I thought of this?! Actually thinking of making turkey burgers tonight so this came at just the right time.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteYUMMY!!! I am going to make these tonight with the Buffalo Turkey Burgers with/Blue Cheese Broccoli Slaw!!! Can't wait! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI have been on a potato kick lately and these look delicious (and healthy!). And I want that knife! :)
ReplyDeleteOoo yum!! Could these be made on a george foreman grill?
ReplyDeleteSure but cooking time may vary, the flame from the grill really crisps them up.
DeleteNow I know what I want to do with the remaining few potatoes hanging around my kitchen! :)
ReplyDeleteYum, these look awesome!
ReplyDeleteThese look delicious! I will definitely give them a try on the barbecue now that it's becoming too hot to cook indoors.
ReplyDeletewill definately try!! they look sooo good!!
ReplyDeleteI'd eat these daily!
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the knife?
ReplyDeleteYou can buy this great inexpensive crinkle cutter at any Sur la Table store.
DeleteOr you can get in touch with your local Pampered Chef Consultant for a "Crinkle Cutter". If you don't have anyone local email me and I can get one to you. easytoprepare at hotmail.com.
DeleteYes, where did you get the knife? I must know !! They look so perfectly crisp!
ReplyDeleteIf you click on the name of the knife (crinkle cutter) in the recipe it takes you straight to amazon. It's $5.40.
DeleteLooks delicious!
ReplyDeleteGood idea :)
ReplyDeletethis is going on the grill tonight with vegi burgers! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI added a link from Amazon for the crinkle cutter for those of you who asked.
ReplyDeleteMade these on my old George foreman grill, no temp settings, took about 11 minutes, these are awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post. Have a new George Foreman grill, no temp setting. Appreciate this!
DeleteThanks for the time on this! :) I am making these on my Foreman grill tonight & didn't know how long they would take. Now I have a good idea! Thanks so much!!
DeleteThat looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteDo you think these will work on an indoor grill?
I live in an apartment :(
oneand20.blogspot.com
Yes, she indicated that in the recipe.
DeleteWould this work with red potatoes? I'd like to make them tonight but dont have any russets on hand.
ReplyDeleteYes, why wouldn't it???
DeleteThese look delicious, but I can already picture them getting horribly stuck to the grill and falling through the cracks.. I would highly suggest making these on an indoor grill with LOTS of non-stick spray.
ReplyDeleteOr use a vegetable grill basket?
DeleteYum! But I don't have a grill at all. And I try to stay away from white potatoes. So I'll have to try adapting this to sweet potatoes and a broiler... ;)
ReplyDeleteWe make sweet potato fries all the time. A bit of olive oil and some seasoning salt and they are fantastic! We use a really dark black pan and cook them in the oven in the winter and they turn out quite good as well!
DeleteJust have to go clean the grill first - we are messy bbqers in our house.
ReplyDeleteI just have to add in here, I almost never cook inside in the summer. I have even baked cookies out on the grill. Just recently while camping I used the little Webber Q grill to bake cookies.
ReplyDeletefun!
DeleteSo curious about the cookie baking on the Weber Q. We're currently traveling in an RV with no oven. I've made pizza and even tater tots on the grill. But haven't had the nerve to try cookies yet.
DeleteThey look kind of raw.
ReplyDeleteSilly question, but when you toss them (in oil)..what is the best way? Do you prefer a bowl or a ziplock baggie? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNo need to be rude. Many are beginners.
Delete@Trixie...you could do it either way, but I prefer the baggie method.
DeleteThere are no silly questions. I do it in a large mixing bowl so I can toss it well.
DeleteI love, love, love grilled potatoes. I usually don't do anything nearly as fancy though! I love the krinkle cutter.
ReplyDeleteI love grilled potatoes! A perfect side for summer!
ReplyDeleteIf you cut them up like regular french fries you can use the stir fry pans (deep pans with lots of holes in them) to cook up a batch quickly and keep them from falling into the bottom while cooking other things. We do these all summer long with some seasoning salt - YUM!
ReplyDeleteI have a grilling basket that I like to use to grill my veggies so they don't slide through the grates. Is that okay to use, or should the potatoes be directly on the grill?
ReplyDeleteadding these to my bbq menu for saturday! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fantastic alternative to greasy, deep-fried fries! I love any kind of grilled veggies, especially potatoes. I'm going to have to get that crinkle knife...hands down.
ReplyDeleteI do these all the time in the oven or toaster oven, but add rosemary. DELISH!
ReplyDeleteDo you think you could do these on a small Foreman grill?
ReplyDeleteSomeone commented that they did with success.
DeleteMade your ketchup and these tonight and both are going in the dinner rotation. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have made these in the oven but never on the grill. They look so perfectly wrinkled. Time to get a new wrinkle cutter since mine is so dull. I just made some homemade ketchup but it came out so runny. I am going to try yours since it looks much thicker.
ReplyDeleteAfter you cut the potatoes....if you soak them in cold water and pat them dry before you sprinkle with oil they will be crisper when you are finished cooking them. FYI
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try that!
DeleteI have heard also to do it with a half and half cold vinegar and water soak. I think it may liven up the flavor too and require less salt! I'll have to try this. Thanks for the reminder :)
DeleteThis just seems like an obvious recipe, but I've never thought of doing it. I can't wait to make them with some garlic salt!
ReplyDeleteDid these last night, and added a sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top. YUM!!!!
ReplyDeleteMade these last night, so good! Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteWe're currently traveling in an RV with no oven so EVERYTHING gets cooked on our Weber Q! I've found that putting a pizza stone on the Q and then "baking" whatever I'm going to bake on tinfoil works out great. I make potato slices this way often. I just mist them with olive oil using the misto and sprinkle with salt. I think I'll try your fried pickles on the grill. Spending the summer in North Dakota I'm having withdrawals of southern food!
ReplyDeletewhat would be the points if you did it with a sweet potato?
ReplyDeleteI'll be trying this with sweet potatoes this evening.
ReplyDeleteI started doing this about 30 years ago. Sweet potatoes are good cut in quarters, like joes and brushed with a little olive oil and sprinkled with cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try these with my Pampered Chef grill pan & grill press!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI made these for dinner the other day - they were great!!
ReplyDeleteI saw a different recipe for oven fries on here, I think it was here anyway. They looked like fresh fried, french fries. Does anyone have the recipe link? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYummy! Made these tonight and sprinkled them with a little Italian seasoning! Amazing! Thanks Gina!
ReplyDeleteI tried these potatoes 2 days ago and they were delish didnt have the fancy cutter so i just cut them into round circles but it worked :)
ReplyDeletemy boyfriend just took one off the grill and had me try one! heavenly!!! i put rosemary and garlic salt on them which added an amazing flavor! i cant wait until they are all done!! yumm!!
ReplyDeleteThis is probably a silly question but is the serving size two slices from one potato or one whole potato since we're using 2 for the recipe?
ReplyDeleteOne potato per serving.
ReplyDeleteGina, these were great! Grill was tied up with london broil, so I used the oven-35 min at 425 and flipped them halfway. Big hit! Thank you; new fan here!
ReplyDeletehow many do you get for the four points?
ReplyDeleteWow...beautiful... Like to grab some...:-) :-)

These look great. I found a new Lawry's seasoned salt at the store that's chili/garlic seasoning. I'm going to try it with that.
