Slow Cooker Sweet Potatoes are one of my favorite, no fuss sweet potato recipes! The best part is there’s only one ingredient with no prep time aside from washing them. No need to add water, poke them, or wrap them in foil. They’re a healthy side dish without the fuss! You can also air fryer baked sweet potatoes, and if you want to use your oven, try this Baked Sweet Potato recipe.

Crock Pot Sweet Potatoes

This recipe has zero prep time! I just wash them and throw them right in the slow cooker then turn it on low 8 hours, or if I have less time I cook it high 3 1/2 to 4 hours. You can put as many sweet potatoes as you like as long as they fit, just stack them and make sure the cover closes. You will know they are ready when a knife slides in easily when poked.

How To Make Baked Sweet Potatoes in the Slow Cooker

  1. Wash and dry the sweet potatoes.
  2. Place the sweet potatoes in the slow cooker, no need to prick them or add water.
  3. Cover and cook the sweet potatoes on low for 8 hours until they are tender.
  4. When the sweet potatoes are done, keep on warm until ready to eat.

Sweet Potato Toppings:

You can top the baked sweet potatoes with whatever you wish.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can you put raw potatoes in a slow cooker?

Yes, raw potatoes can go straight in the crockpot. They cook low and slow for eight hours, resulting in perfectly cooked sweet potatoes.

Can you stack the sweet potatoes in the slow cooker?

You can put as many sweet potatoes in the slow cooker that will fit. Just stack them on top of each other and make sure the lid closes.

Can I bake sweet potatoes and regular potatoes at the same time in the slow cooker?

Depending on the size of the potatoes, sweet and regular will take about the same amount of time to cook, so you can definitely do them at the same time.

What if I don’t have eight hours for my sweet potatoes to cook?

If you need the potatoes done in about half the time, cook them on high. However, you’ll need to add some water to the bottom of the slow cooker so it doesn’t burn. Start checking them at about three and a half hours – once you can slide a knife through them easily, they’re ready.

  1. I had no idea you could do this! I love the idea, saves a lot of oven time. I learned long ago that all that stuff most people put on sweet potatoes is just extra calories and sugar. I sprinkle mine with cinnamon and that’s all. They’re perfect, delightful and fit into diets limiting sugar, fat and salt. I also love that I get the oven space for other things. THANK YOU FOR ENLIGHTENING ME!

  2. When you put them in a microwave you have to pierce them with a fork but you don’t have to in a crock pot???

  3. I prepared sweet potatoes for Easter dinner.  Our large crock pot was filled to the brim with sweet potatoes!  Just washing the potatoes, and cooking them on low for 8 hours could not be easier!  The sweet potatoes were the perfect texture!

  4. I was wondering where you got the nutrition info for sweet potatoes. The carbs seem very high compared to what I am finding.

    1. Gina is pretty much right, 230 grams of sweet potato (average to small) is about 198cal and 46 grams of carbohydrates as per the usda

  6. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy these were and how they were cooked to perfection. This is a keeper!!!!

  7. Hi Gina! I am in a 2 person household and the spouse doesn’t like sweet potatoes!  Could a bake potato be cooked with the sweet potato in slow cooker for same amount time?

  8. This sounds wonderful. I imagine that you get that slight carmelization of the sweet potato! Can i do a bunch and just keep in the fridge for the week? I assume that it would be ok, and just reheat in the mic for a few mins or air fryer to crisp it up!

    1. You can also freeze cooked ones on a freezer bag then the night before you want it, put in the fridge to thaw then heat up in the microwave. Perfect!

  9. I  made these today and they were cooked to perfection! By far the easiest thing I’ve ever cooked! Thanks!

  10. Have you tried doing potatoes this way? I think is great to do it this way when your oven is full of turkey and other stuff.

  11. I love your recipes but prefer to do yams in the microwave.  I can do several in about seven minutes.  I adore garnet yams.

  12. This is Paleo as well. Just replace the butter with ghee or no butter. I often forget about sweet potato as a side dish. These look delicious. 🙂

I, too, would like to know if these could be done in the Instant Pot? And for how long?
