Baked spiral ham with a simple homemade glaze made with fresh orange juice, pineapple juice, honey, Dijon mustard, and a touch of brown sugar is the perfect holiday dish!

Honey Baked Ham Recipe
Spiral hams are great for serving at large parties because they are precooked and sliced, which makes for easy serving when it comes out of the oven. The glaze for this honey baked ham only takes a few minutes, and most of the cooking time for the ham is hands- off. Plus, glazing your own ham is more affordable than buying one already glazed. A few other spiral ham recipes I love are this Apricot-Rum Glazed Spiral Ham, Slow Cooker Spiral Ham with Apricot-Dijon Glaze, and Honey- Mustard Ham.

Ingredients You Will Need
- Spiral Ham: Buy a fully-cooked spiral bone-in ham that weighs 6 to 8 pounds.
- Juice: Use pineapple juice and fresh-squeezed orange juice.
- Dijon Mustard adds tanginess to balance the sweetness.
- Sweetener: Honey thickens the glaze, and brown sugar adds a little crunch.
How to Cook a Baked Ham
Since the ham is already cooked, you are essentially just heating it up and finishing it with a glaze. Here’s how I make it (see recipe card below for exact measurements).
- Prep: Preheat the oven to 275°F. Place the ham in a large roasting pan, cut side down, and cover it tightly with foil, or place it in a baking bag.
- How Long to Cook a Pre-Cooked Ham: Bake the spiral ham for 12 to 15 minutes per pound, depending on the size.
- Ham Glaze: Whisk the honey-ham glaze ingredients in a small saucepan. Simmer it on low for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring often until it reduces down and thickens into a glaze.
- Glaze the Ham: Remove the ham from the oven 15 minutes before it’s done, and brush the glaze onto it. Finish cooking the ham uncovered for the last 15 minutes.

Baked Ham FAQs
A spiral ham is the back leg of a pig that is cut in one continuous spiral around the bone. This allows the bone-in ham to be more easily cut and consistently infused with the flavors you cook with.
One serving of ham is 3 ounces, so a 9-pound spiral ham will serve approximately 12 to 15 people.
When reheating a ham, bake it covered to prevent it from drying out. After you glaze it, uncover the pan so the glaze will brown.
An unopened ham that’s vacuum-sealed remains safe for up to two weeks. So, you could buy it a week or so early. If you want to serve the ham warm, wait to start baking and glazing it until a couple of hours before your guests arrive.
Ham will last in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. If you plan on eating it over a longer period, freeze it for up to two months for the best quality.

Excellent, and the glaze was perfect.
I’ve made some of your ham recipes before and hoped this one would be just as delicious! But I did make some errors that I hoped others will avoid! I used a 10lbs ham and followed instructions accordingly. However, I did have to turn the oven up after my ham hadn’t even hit an internal temp of 100 by the 2 hour mark. I kept it in for another 3 hours, eventually getting to 350 before the internal temperature finally hit target. Pretty bummed because I put the glaze on at the 2 hour mark before checking the temp and ended up burning the glaze. Maybe next time!
A larger ham will take longer to heat, and a whole cooked ham (rather than a spiral-cut ham) will take longer as well.
This was perfect and sooooo easy
We made this for Christmas Eve dinner and it was delicious and so easy!!
We made this for Christmas Eve dinner and it was absolutely delicious! It was very easy to make and was a great main for our holiday table!
Can you use a boneless fully cooked spiral ham?
Sure! Just check the internal temp to see when it’s ready.
Sorry – just a question as I hope to make this for easter next week – is there any good substitute for the mustard.? I have a fussy brother who detests and can sense mustard even in tiny quantities. Thanks!
Leave it out!
Could I make this in the crockpot and then finish it in the oven with the glaze? How long would I cook in the crockpot on low?
See my slow cooker ham for time, it’s linked above.
The ham was actually about 10 pounds, wrapped tightly with foil and used the recommended cooking time per pound. I really liked the glaze and something I am sure to use in the future.
What sizes do they come in?
This is an excellent recipe! Better than a “real” Honeybaked processed ham! The only thing I added was a little cornstarch mixed with a small amount of water to thicken the syrup. The ham turned out perfectly!
When placing in the slow cooker instead on HIGH 3 hours, do you add the glaze before or maybe 30 mins before?
When preparing in slow cooker – do you place ham in slow cooker and then pour prepared sauce on top; then cook on high for 2 to 3 hours? Or do you cook ham in slow cooker for some time and then pour prepared sauce on top for additional time?
Is there a way to put in slow cooker. I am going to church Christmas morning.
Sure! It really just needs to heat up so I think 2 to 3 hours high or 4 to 5 hours on low would be fine.
Great ham recipe! Now the next logical question is: What to do with the leftover ham? Can you come up with a skinny leftover ham casserole? That would be awesome!
I need a recommendation from those who have tried this. Is it as delicious as I hope it to be? I am hosting my husbands family for Christmas dinner – and I need not mention how healthy it is…but is it yummy?!?!?
Do you have a substitute for honey with this recipe? I would like to make it, but I have a sorbitol allergy, honey, berries, and diet sugar are a no-no. Thanks!,
Did anyone else have trouble getting the glaze to thicken? I simmered mine for 45 minutes and it never got any thicker. I just went ahead and poured it over the ham anyways. Its in the oven now so Ill see how it turns out.
I searched your site for a ham recipe for Easter. This was delicious! I made it with the bacon wrapped green beans and the sweet potato spinach salad posted on your site and dessert we had the Skinny coconut cupcakes! My Easter dinner was amazing. Thank you!
Honey baked Ham is the best. Already glazed but twice the cost of one you buy in the supermarket. When I buy Honey baked I don't cook it more. Just let it come to room temp. When I have to glaze a store bought I put the glaze on and just let it cook long enough to glaze. These hams are already cooked so they don't need to cook more and dry out. unless you cook a raw ham.
Very tasty and certainly cheaper and healthier than Honey Baked Ham!!!
Wonderful recipe. I have made variations on it but always by trial and error, so it's such a relief to have a tested version to work with.
I made this today. It was light, flavorful, and excellent! Would def. recommend!
All we do with a spiral ham is debone it, and put into a slow cooker covered with diet Vernors Ginger Ale, not a dry ale, overnight on low and it is terrific for sandwiches on home made rolls.
Great!
I love your site and the many recipes options you make available to me, A self taught cook the daughter of a microwave genie. Thank you
That looks AMAZING! I can't wait to try it!
Glad the print button works for you, If you are using an old version of Internet Explorer, it won't work for some reason.
Yay! Print button works again!
Mmm. I love a good baked ham.
Baked ham is so easy since you are essentially just heating it up. Even without a glaze it has so much flavor. Makes for great pea soup with the leftovers!
I never tried something like this. It sounds easy enough for a beginner.
Thanks,
Mbini
Thanks for posting the Easter recipes Gina!! Perfect!
Dijon mustard is an interesting addition to the classic glaze. Sounds delish!
I have done a spiral ham before but I have never used a dijon mustard. I have to give that a whirl!
