Spiral hams are great for catering to large parties because they are precooked and sliced which makes for easy serving when it comes out of the oven. A few other spiral ham recipes I love are Apricot Rum Glazed Spiral Ham, Slow Cooker Spiral Ham with Apricot-Dijon Glaze and for that Left over ham, a Ham Bone Soup with Potatoes and Cabbage.

What cut of meat is a spiral ham?

A spiral ham is a is the back leg of a pig that is then cut in one continuous spiral around the bone. This allows the bone-in ham to be more easily cut and consistently infused with the flavors you cook with.

How long does Spiral Ham last in the fridge?

I would not leave this in the fridge longer than 3-5 days. If you plan on eating it over a longer period of time then freeze it.

Great ham recipe! Now the next logical question is: What to do with the leftover ham? Can you come up with a skinny leftover ham casserole? That would be awesome!

I need a recommendation from those who have tried this. Is it as delicious as I hope it to be? I am hosting my husbands family for Christmas dinner – and I need not mention how healthy it is…but is it yummy?!?!?

  3. Do you have a substitute for honey with this recipe? I would like to make it, but I have a sorbitol allergy, honey, berries, and diet sugar are a no-no. Thanks!,

Did anyone else have trouble getting the glaze to thicken? I simmered mine for 45 minutes and it never got any thicker. I just went ahead and poured it over the ham anyways. Its in the oven now so Ill see how it turns out.

I searched your site for a ham recipe for Easter. This was delicious! I made it with the bacon wrapped green beans and the sweet potato spinach salad posted on your site and dessert we had the Skinny coconut cupcakes! My Easter dinner was amazing. Thank you!

  6. Honey baked Ham is the best. Already glazed but twice the cost of one you buy in the supermarket. When I buy Honey baked I don't cook it more. Just let it come to room temp. When I have to glaze a store bought I put the glaze on and just let it cook long enough to glaze. These hams are already cooked so they don't need to cook more and dry out. unless you cook a raw ham.

Wonderful recipe. I have made variations on it but always by trial and error, so it's such a relief to have a tested version to work with.

  8. All we do with a spiral ham is debone it, and put into a slow cooker covered with diet Vernors Ginger Ale, not a dry ale, overnight on low and it is terrific for sandwiches on home made rolls.

  10. Glad the print button works for you, If you are using an old version of Internet Explorer, it won't work for some reason.

  11. Baked ham is so easy since you are essentially just heating it up. Even without a glaze it has so much flavor. Makes for great pea soup with the leftovers!

I have done a spiral ham before but I have never used a dijon mustard. I have to give that a whirl!
