Easy Wonton Soup

I love wonton soup, especially when it is full of veggies, which helps make it more of a meal. Unfortunately, my local Chinese takeout restaurant makes a basic one with broth only. So, I made my own! This makes a great lunch, or if you want to make it a larger multi-course meal add Cauliflower Fried Rice or Spicy Shrimp Brown Fried Rice, Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry or Pepper Steak.

Loaded with vegetables, this quick and easy wonton soup is super simple, and takes under 15 minutes to make thanks to the frozen wontons.

This chicken wonton soup recipe is so quick and easy to whip up. It has lots of healthy veggies and is semi-homemade using frozen wontons. Once the vegetables are chopped, the soup cooks in just under 15 minutes. First, you boil the ginger and garlic in the chicken broth for five minutes, which imparts wonderful flavor on the broth. Next, throw in the bok choy, cook five minutes, and then, add the wontons and mushrooms. Cook for a couple of minutes, stir in the soy sauce and sesame oil, and then serve in four bowls.

Using frozen wontons is a great shortcut that saves a ton of time. I love the frozen Mini Chicken Cilantro Wontons from Trader Joe’s, which is what I used in this recipe. They are the best frozen wontons in my opinion, but you can use any frozen wontons you wish to make this soup. Costco sells chicken cilantro wontons, which would also work.

For toppings, I like to add sliced scallions or cilantro. If you like spice, you can add some red chili oil or sambal oelek. This easy wonton soup is delicious on its own, or serve it with General Tso’s chicken or chicken and broccoli stir fry for a full Chinese takeout meal at home.

Wonton Soup Variations

  • For the veggies, I used baby bok choy (my favorite!) along with shiitake mushrooms. If you wish, you can add bean sprouts or sub spinach for the baby bok choy.
  • Don’t like mushrooms, leave them out!
  • Add shrimp or cooked chicken for more protein.
  • Top with red chili oil or sambal oelek to make it spicy.

Excellent wonton soup with the perfect balance of flavor! I used Costco’s frozen wontons, and they worked wonderfully in this recipe. I personally added a little more bok choy because I love it, but otherwise, this was absolutely delicious. A simple, flavorful soup that I’ll definitely make again!

  2. delicious recipe. I will try it with bok choy and mushrooms next time. I didn’t have them on hand but still had a craving for wonton soup. I made this and it was delicious! i did add some chilli garlic paste to add some more heat!

  3. What a flavorful and easy recipe! My husband and I loved it. I added some fresh snow peas because I had some left over from the night before and didn’t want them to go to waste. Very happy I found your recipe.

  4. I love this soup! I’ve made it several times and I’m making again tonight! And anyone complaining about it not really being wonton soup because you use frozen wontons doesn’t understand the concept of “simple” as it says in the recipe title. I know if I had to make the dumplings instead of using frozen, I probably wouldn’t make it at all!

  5. Absolutely delicious, my husband has asked for a repeat performance which for us is unusual as I don’t do rotation cooking as I consider it more of a hobby and try new recipes several times per week. Also very easy and fast it has been HOT 🥵 and this was quick enough that I didn’t feel it add additional heat to house. And prep time was quick! All around a winner

  6. This recipe was really good! I did add a tsp of dark soy sauce to it. Also, better than billion chicken stock I is the best. More flavor than any of the boxed ones. I don’t work for them, and make no money saying this, just my opinion. I used my home made wanton that I froze a few months ago. Delis.

  7. Excellent and so easy. I followed some of the comments and added the mushrooms with bok choy (which I cut into smaller pieces), added the white parts of the scallions with the wontons and sprinkled some sesame seeds as a garnish.

  8. Made this yesterday. It was delicious and so easy to make. I added a LITTLE chilli sauce for a little heat. Have some left over for lunch today.

Sorry dear, anybody can post useless info like this!!!!!!!! WHERE IS THE RECIPE TO MAKE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART????====THE DUMPLINGS !!!!!!!!, DURAK

    1. This is an easy 15 minute wonton soup recipe, not a wonton recipe. I don’t think you’d be able to consider it an easy or fast recipe if you had to assemble nearly two dozen wontons.

But, if you find a recipe for them that you like, then this would be a good soup base to use them in.

    2. The ingredient listing clearly shows that you use frozen wontons. I found this comment quite rude. Instead of calling someone out for giving useless information, maybe read the instructions and ingredient list more thoroughly before leaving a nasty comment. Kindness matters.

    3. Marlene, this was a nasty comment. If you would take time to read the recipe thoroughly, you would see that it lists frozen wontons. It’s your choice if you want to make homemade wontons, but it’s not OK to leave a rude, sarcastic comment saying this is useless information. The recipe clearly states it’s a quick and easy version. Kindness matters.

Girl, it says in the recipe that it calls for frozen mini wontons, what are you yelling about?

      1. Yes, I’m so thankful she did. Makes it easier for me to make this delicious recipe, in just a few minutes, for my very busy, very hungry family!

  10. I love how simple the recipe is and the ingredients are easy to find at any grocery store. My husband loved it! I will definitely keep this in my rotation.

  11. I loved it. Added a bit too much sesame oil by mistake, but that flavor was good. Overall a great recipe.

  12. It came out great! I added some snow peas and bean sprouts. I also added a bit more garlic and ginger. I will make it again!

  13. This was a recipe worth making. It was perfect on a rainy, cool, dreary day here in Upstate NY. Thank you for posting this. The recipe is a keeper.

We really enjoyed this recipe. All of my picky eaters ate it. I did add 2 chicken breast to bump up the protein. I also added carrots.

I made this for the first time tonight. It was very good but I found myself trying to doctor up the broth because it seemed a bit bland or was missing something. I had minced the garlic and ginger. Wondered if it didn’t maintain as much of the flavor?

  17. Very easy and very flavourful. I added a celery stalk, sliced diagonally for a little crunch. The sesame oil is a nice finishing touch.

  18. So easy and delicious! I think I will add carrots next time. Also, maybe add the bok Choi a little later, at least the leafy part, as it got a little overcooked.

  19. I made this tonight it was absolutely wonderful better than any takeout I had ever eaten.. only thing I did differently was I added some protein at the last 5 minutes I put in a shrimp.. also along with the garlic and Ginger I also simmered two star anasite. Thank you for a great recipe

  20. Very yummy! Only think I would do differently is chop the baby bok choy in smaller pieces to make it easier to eat. Super fast and easy and the TJ wontons are perfect.

  21. Just love this wonton soup. Much better than my local takeout 🥡. This recipe will definitely be used over and over again in my house. It’s a quick easy recipe and you can change it up with different veggies and various wonton flavors. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

  22. This recipe is so easy. Tonight will be my 4th time. We do not have bok choy available so used spinach. Add extra garlic and ginger. I finish my bowl with some chili oil. One of my favorite soups.

  23. Delicious and easy! I loaded it up with more veggies…broccoli, carrot, cauliflower and snow pea pods. Salt and pepper made it perfect.

  24. So easy, so good! **PSA though, it takes about 25 minutes of boiling/simmering for shiitakes to cook through. This isn’t important for most people, but if you’re unlucky like me and allergic to undercooked shiitakes (shiitake dermatitis), you’ll want to cook them first so you don’t overcook the bok choy and dumplings.

I’m lazy so I used Trader Joe’s frozen crushed garlic and crushed ginger (like 2-3 cubes garlic and 6 cubes ginger because I love both). Didn’t change anything else and honestly it’s really good as is! Next time I’m going to try adding chicken and carrots, and maybe some onions as well. I also got some crusty sourdough to go with it and dip in that delicious broth

  25. Great recipe for a quick and easy meal. Didn’t know what to cook but remembered I had frozen wontons and looked up a recipe on line. Didn’t have bok choy or sesame sauce substituted spinach and added 2 tbsp of soy sauce. The ginger gives it an authentic taste. I will definitely make this again. Love that you can add other ingredients to make it your own.

  26. Followed the recipe but added some chicken. I used the same chicken wontons from Trader Joe’s but next time I will try shrimps wonton. Good recipe and glad I found it !

This soup was great. Next time I make it and I will definitely make it again. I will cut the bok choy into smaller pieces add a little more ginger just because I like the taste, I added carrot sticks and next time May add beans sprouts as well. Thanks so much. This was so quick and easy and my family loved it.

  28. Very good! I only had cabbage on hand so I added it to the broth and let it come to a boil. I also added tofu for extra protein!

  29. Very tasty and easy to put together. The next time I’ll cut the bok choy into smaller pieces so it’s more manageable to eat and maybe add carrot sticks.

  30. All in all, it was good but needed a lot more soy sauce. I added shrimp and water chestnuts which added some more textural components.

  31. Very and good.
Because of a medical column I read, I added the shiitakes when I added the bok choy to make sure they were fully cooked. I also used low sodium soy sauce.

  32. I’ve made this 2x now. The fire time I followed the recipe and it was alright. The 2nd time I added sliced water chestnuts, snowpeas, a can of straw mushrooms and extra garlic. I liked the additions. My husband has requested next time that Iadd shrimp too. I’ll continue making this as we like it. It’s quick, easy and tasty.

  33. This is one of my favorite quick meals when I don’t know what to make. I sometimes serve Trader Joe’s scallion pancakes on the side. That of course changes the calorie count but it’s so easy.

  34. Easy recipe and very flavorful yet easy on the stomach! Perfect as a post chemo meal for my husband. Thank you!

  35. Delicious!!! I’ve made this 3 times already, and it’s a hit. I use the Costco chicken and cilantro wontons, and double the broth/ginger amounts for lunch leftovers. I also slice the bok choy so it’s widely distributed. Love this winner!

  36. Great for a quick and easy wonton soup. It’s so easy, I am making a fresh serving over a few nights rather than reheating leftovers!

  37. Followed recipe and added recommendation of chicken and water chestnuts. Super easy to make and came out delicious. This is great for my head cold.

  38. So simple and satisfying! One more recipe to add to my rotation. Save your money, no need to order takeout with this recipe! Delicious as it is but I can see using this as a jumping off point for other delicious soups. Thanks!

  39. Made this for dinner on a rainy day. Delicious! The kids loved it too. I used the chicken cilantro wontons from Costco. Drizzled chili oil on top. Made extra broth because the kids love a lot of broth. Will make it again!

Simple and awesome soup! Clear and concise recipe. Upped the ante on the veg…just because. And, used frozen chicken cilantro mini wontons from Costco. YUM!!!

  41. So good and can be thrown together so quick!!!
Throw in cabbage and some sriracha for a little heat!!

  42. The soup is easy to make and add vegetables that one has on hand. I used low sodium vegetable bouillon and broccoli, otherwise followed the recipe without the collard greens. The soup was great.

  43. Excellent recipe! Perfect for a cold rainy day!
I made it with a few substitutions – to use the ingredients I had in the fridge = Chopped onion and sauteed in pot with olive oil
Then added chicken broth to boil
Cut up celery stalk, carrot, garlic and put into soup to boil
Cut up a small pre-cooked chicken breast and added to soup to boil
Added salt, adobo seasoning, ginger and soy sauce – let cook a while
Added frozen vegetable mini wontons to cook slowly – Done!

  44. So delicious, easy and fast. My husband and I both really enjoyed it. I didn’t have bok choy so I used frozen spinach. I also added a diced up jalapeno because we like heat, and a shallot I had on hand. Added a tablespoon of rice vingar along with the sesame oil and soy sauce. Added some sambal oleek for more heat when we served it.

  45. This recipe for wonton soup was amazing! It was easy, concise, and most of all delicious. I will be making it again thank you so much.

  46. Super easy and really tasty!! I added more spices to the broth over time but u honestly don’t have to if u have a good stock!

  47. Thanks for making this recipe available. I subbed the bok choy and shitake with thinly sliced cabbage and carrot. I also added white pepper. We loved it so thanks again.

Super easy! If you buy dried mushrooms throw them in at the same time as the baby bock choy. I grated the ginger, it was lovely.

  49. Absolutely delicious! I’ve made this several times and it is always a hit. It is 93 degrees today and it was a perfect light dinner.

  50. So tastey and delicious . I added sugar snow peas, Raymond noodles and 2 tbls of Chinese cooking wine and A tablespoon of Franks hot sauce. Its Out of this World good !🤣

I made this soup in 97 degree Las Vegas, NV weather because sometimes you need a nutritious meal. This was a spot hitter and a keeper any time of year.

  52. So so so happy with this I added carrots cause my girl hates mushrooms so so happy thank you to the moon and back

  53. I am one of those who likes a stronger and salty flavor. The soup is tasty as is but I added another clove if garlic, more ginger, a few drops more of the sesame oil, and another teaspoon of soy sauce. I though all the ingredients required blended nicely together for a delicious and comforting soup. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

  57. Absolutely delicious. The sesame oil and the soy sauceis a must !! My family loves this wonton soup. Super easy

  58. Loved this for a great Weight Watchers recipe for lunch. Make sure to take out ginger after it’s in there for 5 minutes. Was too salty for my sodium intake and used low sodium soy sauce. Loved it and thanks

  59. I add about a T. of oyster sauce at the end. Mom absolutely LOVES this recipe. It is especially good on cold winter nights and when you have the flu or a cold. Yum!

I have made this twice and LOVE it!!! The comments have given me some change ideas that I believe will be great for my family. I liked the soup from take out, but now I refuse to get it when I can make it this easily. Thank you.

    1. I dropped the wontons and the mushrooms and added instead 1 to 2 ounces mung bean sprouts, 10 snow pea pods, 6 ounces of thinly sliced petite pork loin (that I conveniently had left over from the previous night) as well as 10 shrimp (16 to 20 per pound size pre boiled for 10 minutes) and 5 oz of Vietnamese egg noodles that I precooked for 4 minutes. I hated the broth and then added all the precooked ingredients and the end result was a noodle bowl that caused my brains to fall out it was so good.

Omitted the. Mushrooms because I’m not a fan and Added carrots and jalapeño peppers ( I like it hot!) Delicious and comforting and let me hit my calorie deficit for the day! Thank you Skinnytaste for this yummy recipe!

  62. Delicious #1. Easy to follow instructions. I added leftover rice. Also shrimp. And I didn’t have bok choy but I had spinach so I added that. Simple to start with recipe that can be adjusted with what’s on hand.

  63. I have to say this was EXCELLENT! Everyone loved it. I will make this again for company. I seldom make these comments, but this soup is easy to make with a huge payoff on taste.

  64. Second time making this delicious recipe but I could not get Bok Choy. I substituted broccoli this time. Cut in small pieces, it cooked perfectly! Also threw in some carrots for color. Yummmmmm…………..

  65. I used Trader Joe’s Miso Ginger broth and followed the rest of the recipe as directed. It was excellent. I topped it with some green onions and fresh cilantro. Next time I will add some chili oil.

  66. Pretty good, but didnt taste like Won Ton soup from the restaurant. Too strong, lacked the subtlety and flavor and was much darker than what i have grown accustomed to.

  67. A very easy and fast recipe to make and so delicious. I added frozen peas and carrots and cooked shrimp. I will make it often

  68. Second time I made this soup — I added the bok choy after the mushrooms and wontons. Adding it earlier meant it lost all the crispiness and lovely green color.

I had Napa cabbage otherwise frozen chicken veg wontons cooked on sauté in instant pot absolutely the best food I have tasted my friends thought so to. A+++++

  70. Loved this recipe! I omitted the mushrooms but followed all the other steps and it was amazing. Very tasty and perfect for a cold winter night. I will be making this again!

  71. I love ❤️ Won Ton soup it was easy to make, delicious, and just the amount to try out for the 1st time.
    Thank you 🙏🏾 so much!

  72. Tasty and easy, plus it adapts readily to personal preferences. I use toasted sesame oil instead of the regular and add a few drops of sesame chili oil. I’ve doubled the recipe and it turns out perfectly.

  73. I just finished eating this wonton soup and I. AM. IN. LOVE. Thank you so much!! As someone who is working, in school, and recently got married, quick easy and delicious recipes are a must. And this one went above and beyond. I added some udon noodles into it to make it a bit more filling, and my taste buds absolutely melted. Such a good soul soup.

    1. Oh my stars!! So in love! Now let’s all be kind but I subbed collards for the bok choy as I believe I have an allergy to bok choy. Anywho it was fabulous and I called it soulful wonton soup!! 😀

  74. Super easy, flavorful and my entire family loved it! I plan on making a double batch time and adding the extra (dumplings…that’s what I could find) for the leftover night! Thank you!

  75. Very simple technique and flavorful. Added a few more veggies – snow peas, thin sliced carrots, broccoli.

  76. I made this with carrots, celery, but no bok choy (I didn’t have any, otherwise I would have). I put in the whole bag of wontons, not 20 like the recipe says. I loved it! It’s so fresh tasting!

  77. I have made this recipe over five times. It is so amazingly delicious and simple. As a matter of fact I am making it right now.

  78. This was absolutely awesome. Great flavor all around. I actually used large Cosco “Ling Ling” potstickers which are large. I needed to cook about 4 minutes, so should have put bok Choy in a little later. I think the smaller Trader Joe’s that are suggested would be better for bite sizes.

  79. Love this soup. Especially when I’m under the weather or it’s cold out. My husband and kids love it, too. I buy the cilantro chicken won tons and mushrooms from Costco and make a double batch.

One of my very favorite recipes. Most times I just make this alone, if I’m having guests, I’ll whip up some walnut shrimp and make a big deal… at any rate this soup really gets a lot of compliments, and is as easy to make as it sounds. Delicious!

  81. This is easy and delicious! I 1.5x the recipe but doubled up on the veggies! Added some bean sprouts and hot sauce after dished.

  82. In love with this. I’ve been slowly adding variations. Broccoli, carrots.. delicious quick easy and affordable.

This was so simple to make and so delicious! I used what I had on hand. So I subbed spinach, king oyster mushrooms and Trader Joes pork gyoza. I was unsure though whether to keep everything at a boil the whole time, as the directions didn’t say if/when to turn it down. So I kept it boiling the whole time. Turned out so delicious. One pot and easy clean up. I’m in love.

  89. I could not believe how simple it was to make this wonderful soup! I love this recipe and will be making a lot more.

  90. Super quick and easy weekday dinner. Usually have the base ingredients on hand, so that is a bonus too. Added some diced celery and julienne carrots since it was after Thanksgiving and wanted extra veg. Will def make again.

  91. Super quick and easy! I followed recipe almost exactly but used a few drops of sriracha to spice it up since that’s what I had. This one is going into the frequent rotation list! Thank you!

I make this often. Make my own beef or chicken broth. This time from left over Beef Rib Roast bones, onion, celery etc added the bits of beef that remained. Our asian market has beautifyl baby bok choy so I add alot of that. Have served it for casual dinners with a large fresh salad and bakery baguette. Always a favorite.

  93. Quick, easy and delicious! I didn’t set the bar very high for this one, and boy was I wrong! It honestly tasted just as good, if not better than any wonton soup from any Chinese restaurant.

  94. This is one of our all time favorite soup recipes. I never order wonton soup any longer when ordering Chinese takeout! We enjoy this soup so much more. So easy to whip up also!

    1. Love this soup so much , so does my hubby, I usually use fresh organic spinach instead of bok choy, I used bok choy last time and it was also very good

Quick and easy! I made my stock in the instant pot and didn’t season it so I added some furikake and it was delicious. A little sriracha didn’t hurt either…

  96. I was sceptical but this soup is so good and so easy to make. I am not so keen on bok choy so I substituted it with broccoli and I added some gochujang for a little kick. This will be my go to recipe for wonton soup. Thank you!

It is delicious! I added a teaspoon of fish sauce! And afterwards I added ramin noodles w/leftover broth. Yummy!

  99. I haven’t made this yet. I’ll do it tonight, but I love how easy and fast it is! Thank you for your great recipes! Besides the scallion garnish, I will add fresh cilantro – I think it works perfectly in wonton soup. I must add that I absolutely LOVE the music with this video. I usually mute the music because it’s so grating, but this was terrific!

Made this easy soup last night and it was superb and I have leftovers for lunch today. The only changes I made was to use ingredients I had on hand and my personal preference: used spinach on hand instead of bok choy and added 1 teaspoon of Mr. Yoshida’s Sauce – because I love it.

  103. I followed the recipe as written, except I didn’t have mushrooms. However, the soup was absolutely delicious and so quick and easy. Thanks for a great recipe!

  104. I didn’t leave a review because I’ve not made the soup yet, but I have a question for you. Could I use napa cabbage instead of the baby bok choy here? I’m not a fan of BBC but should I stick to it for consistency, or is the napa cabbage ok? -if so, how much would you suggest to use?
    TIA

  105. This is my fourth time making this recipe. I double it since the first. It is easy and I find it most enjoyable. I do not add the wontons during the initial cook as I freeze in batches. When I reheat I add the wontons as needed.

  106. Delicious soup. I have made this soup several times and every time is good. Although the recipe contains ginger and garlic, spices that my husband dislike , he still loves the soup. Thank you, for sharing.

  107. I am making this for the 10th time today. Girlfriends coming midday for lunch and I think they will love it like I do. This is the very best. I like it with homemade beef bone broth so that takes a day ahead, but sure it is not necessary.

  108. Delicious! Just what I needed tonight, a hot bowl of soup. Quick, easy and oh so satisfying! I actually added two beaten eggs for egg drop wonton soup. Will be making this again.

  109. Quick cooking, healthy & tasty – what’s not to love? I’ve tried it several times and it’s always a fan favorite. I like to use the Bilbigo Chicken and cilantro mini wonton dumplings for this recipe.

I made this recipe making the broth from a Costco chicken carcass and added some of the meat. Additionally, I used more ginger and garlic because I like spicier foods. Finally, I waited until I found shittake mushrooms. Please accept no substitutes. You wouldn’t be disappointed. I’m really enjoying this hearty and healthy soup in 113 degree heat in the Las Vegas desert. It is that good and better than takeout.

  111. This was wonderful! Quick, easy, and extremely tasty! I found some frozen wontons at Dollar General (of all places). They were perfect in the soup. I will definitely be making this again!

  112. Fast and easy with the frozen wonton. Using what was on hand I used Veggie bouillon, spinach and a few green peas instead of the Bok Choy and mushrooms. It was great!

  113. I didn’t have bok choy or mushrooms, so I made it with carrot slices and frozen broccoli. Also this was perfect with the Costco chicken & cilantro wontons. I did find the broth to be under seasoned so added about 1 teaspoon of salt to the pot and it was perfect!

Great recipe, will make again with some add ons.

  114. Worked all night had ordered the ingredients Friday got up this afternoon made in 20 minutes absolutely amazing will be a family staple from now on!!! Thank you so much!!

  115. This is my go to soup when my tummy hurts. It’s also delicious, easy to make and healthy. Love this soup.

  116. Delicious and easy recipe! I did make some adjustments. I doubled the broth. Also once the broth began boiling, I added the wonton first because the package said it takes 10 minutes to cook, then added everything else! Love the recipe! Thank you!!

  117. Yummy. I used the white part of the spring onions in the soup. I didn’t have any bok choy in my fridge so I made it without. Because I used no salt chicken broth, I added a little extra low sodium soy.
I also make my own won tons. This easy recipe is a keeper!

  118. I had everything but the mushrooms. I still made it and not only was it quick to make but super delicious.

  119. Very quick and easy
Flavor was bland but i let it sit for like 5 minutes and it got better. I didnt get that authentic taste though.
    Fun experience

I just made this and I’m eating it while typing. THIS is a life saver for me. I’ve had long covid for 18 months. Ad nothing tastes good. I mean NOTHING. Until now. This soup is the best I’ve ever tasted. Ever! Literally a life saver for me. Thank you.

  121. My husband wasn’t feeling so hot and I knew a soup would fit the bill. THIS was above and beyond! I didn’t have bok choy so I used spinach, added a dash of
fish sauce and upped the garlic and ginger plus added someone’s suggestion of shrimp. I will be making this again!

Love this quick & easy soup. There’s so much flavor in such a short amount of time. The one change I made was to grate the ginger & garlic to avoid biting into them (which I did the first time). Also to change it up, I’m adding some shrimp tonight! Thanks for your great recipes!

I eat this most days . I have tummy issues and this does not bother me at all, so tasty and SO EASY

  124. I have had this soup many times. Always good. I added tofu, white pepper to spice it up a little, and a little extra soy sauce. A real winner for company and so easy. Thanks

  125. Made for dinner.ABSOLUTELY delicious. The flavors are GREAT. Used pot stickers and worked out great.

  126. A huge hit at our Bible Study class last night. The only thing I added was baby corn. I had lots of requests for the recipe this morning. I have added it to my do again file.

  127. I love how quick, simple and delicious this recipe is. I will definitely be making this at least once a week!

  128. Easy peasy yummy meal from such an easy recipe. I added a sweet red onion because my girlfriend won’t eat veggies, lol

  129. I made this recipe and it exceeded my expectations. The following week I made it again and gave it to my daughter. Her family enjoyed it and my 3 year old grandson loved it and the worms (ramen) in it.

Sooo good! Made some with Trader Joe chicken wantons and another batch with the pork potstickers! Will definitely be making this again!!!

  131. Excellent first time to make this soup my newly adopted daughter from the Philippines loved it said better then restaurant style

  132. I love this recipe!! I add shrimp to up the protein and mushrooms or zucchini to up the veggies. It’s fabulous.

Delicious and stupid easy. I used TJ’s shrimp gyoza and it worked great. Thanks for the easy recipe.

  134. I love the flavor of this soup! The only thing I would change is to add the bok choy with the mushrooms. The additional five minutes of cooking time was too long. Otherwise, delicious!

I have a question, I want to make this really bad, lol. Can I use vegetable broth instead? And the soy sauce regular or sodium free? Thank you 😊

    1. Trina, you can always change a recipe to accommodate what you have on hand and according to your preferences, (low or regular soy sauce).

  136. Finally made this and am mad it took me so long!!! Absolutely delicious!! Only had portobello mushrooms so threw them in added carrots bc we had an abundance. Will definitely make again!

  137. Great tasting easy recipe. I add snow peas and sliced carrots for more veggies then soy sauce and sesame oil to taste. So although it’s delicious as is very easy to adjust to each individual’s taste.

  138. Making this again tonight, it’s my go to super easy when we’re in the mood for soup. The ginger and garlic give it a lot of flavor.

  139. LOVE ❤️ this recipe 🤗 I ad snap peas 🫛 one minute before serving and extra hoisin, a little fish sauce and black bean chili 🌶️ oil.

    1. The wonton soup was delicious! Quick and easy to make. I will be maki g this soup on a regular rotation.

  140. Fast, easy, filling, delicious. Threw in additional veggies that needed to be used and used a hot chili sesame oil. It was fantastic!

  141. A great doup for a chilly day or when the family is sick. Very easy and do quick! Going to keep this one!

  142. This turned out great! Don’t be afraid to be liberal with the soy sauce, ginger, and, sesame oil for a better asian flare. I also added 1.5 lbs of shrimp for more flavor. Super easy…

  143. Easy to make but not as flavorful as we like so I added a little rice wine vinegar, a splash of fish sauce and a few red pepper flakes.

  144. A flavorful and fast recipe for a blustery fall day (or any day!) when one wants to enjoy a soup that will also serve as a meal.

  145. This was excellent. We all added more soy sauce, but everyone had their own taste and some added Sriracha and sweet chili sauce. This was so simple to make. Literally took 15 to 20 minutes to make. I am on a walker so it too a bit longer like 20 minutes.

This was delicious! I did add one half of a chopped chicken breast, but it wasn’t essential by any means. Used potstickers as others have and they were quite fine. Thanks much for a great dinner!

  147. Made this last night and it was the BESt. The broth was scrumptious and the TJ won tons & Asian vegetables sent it over the top. I added a half-cup of diced onions to the broth. Added the frozen won tons and veggies after it came to a boil. Let it come to a boil again; then turned off heat and let sit about 15 minutes before serving.

  148. Easy, delicious and very easy to customize without bringing a lot of extra points. This is a winner! Thanks Gina!

  149. This looks delicious! Do you think leftovers would hold up well in the fridge for 1-2 days, or would the wontons start to disintegrate?

    1. I only put asmany won tons as I will eat. Or you can remove them and put separately in fridge to add when you hear it up. The dumplings gs will get mushy if left in broth too long. I love this soup.

  150. Awesome recipe!”Added shrimp and spinach (in lieu of bok choy)and chicken and a drop of fish sauce and it was even more awesome!!

  151. Love this soup!!! Added snap peas and broccoli to have more veggies…AWESOME!!! I also added rotisserie chicken to it, meal for a week!

  152. I’ve made this several times and every time it comes out perfectly. Leftovers warm up nicely, too. Delish! I’m with the other person that posted she found potstickers work nicely, too. Great substitute!

  153. Everyone loves this soup. My ast batch I ran out of frozen wontons and had to use pot stickers. They actually came out even better!

This soup is amazing!! I make it all time! I don’t live close to a Trader Joe’s so when I go I buy 4-6 packages to have on hand! Thanks Gina for all of your wonderful recipes and cookbooks!

  155. This has been a family favorite for a few years now. So quick and easy and so much flavor. Thank you for the recipe.

  156. I tried this tonight. It turned out delicious. I added some bean sprouts to the pot, but other than that, I followed your recipe.

  157. Thank you for this recipe and all the other weight watchers recipes this is one of the best wonton soups that I’ve had and I’ve made a lot 🤗🌹

  158. How do the wontons hold up in the broth for leftovers?
Is it better to cook them separately and add into each soup bowl like some other soups?
Are they soggy or fall apart or absorb alot of the broth when stored in fridge?
I have the Bibigo brand with Chicken and Vegetables. Can anyone comment on this brand or any other used.
    Thank You
    Anxious to make this!

  159. Delicious and easy/quick to make. I make it regularly, it’s the perfect lunch. I don’t change or add anything.

  160. Life saver! The whole family had Covid & were craving for hot soup. Thanks for a quick easy recipe. I had chicken wanton in freezer & had cut Bokchoy…..

  161. Great soup, quick and easy. My husband and I make this often when we don’t have time to make lunch or dinner. Sometimes when we don’t have wontons, we add ramen noodles and soft boiled eggs. And if we don’t have book chow, sometimes we sub it with spinach. So so good. Thank you for this recipe!

  162. Super simple and delicious! Made it for the first time last night and it was huge hit for us and our guests. So glad I decided to click on this recipe!

  163. I make this soup regularly for lunches as it’s super easy to put together and really tasty. It’s full of veggies and great for my WW points as it’s only 2 points for a good sized serving. Plenty of room to add more veggies too. Thank you Gina! Big win with Easy Wonton Soup!

This recipe is delicious. It’s also very easy, healthy and a quick meal. I added “shrimp” and “squiggly noodles” from Trader Joe’s to the recipe as well. My family loved it!

  165. As if this couldn’t get an easier— I use the miso ginger broth from Trader Joe’s! No need to add soy sauce or anything other than veggies and wontons.

  166. ✨Amazingly simple and incredibly TASTY. We’ve had this 3 times recently and what a hit it IS. I’m now keeping the ingredients on hand so it can be our Number 1 go-to dinner option when days are busy!

  167. This was simple and easy. I did add more garlic and bok choy from Trader Joe’s which is amazing!! the chili sauce a little hot so left it out and invited ppl to add their own.

  168. This is delicious! I use a lot of skinny taste recipes but this is one of my favorites. I used Napa cabbage instead of bok choy because it’s what I had and I added a spoonful of chili garlic sauce and green onions at the end (as recommended in the recipe. ) I also used the cilantro chicken wontons from Costco. It was spicy (with the addition of the chili garlic sauce) and light and comforting. Highly recommend!

  169. This was super good and It really took less than 30 minutes to make. I made it for the main course for my wife and I, so to up the calories, I used 25 mini wontons and added 2 eggs at the end. I dare say this is my new favorite recipe 🙂

  170. This was delicious! I sauted carrot with the ginger. Then sauteed button mushrooms (because that’s what I had) and garlic. Added the broth with some dried porcini mushrooms to up the umami. We used the TJ wontons When the soy sauce and sesame oil was added, I also added a splash of Kitchen Bouquet. At the end to garnish, I added some toasted sesame seeds with the scallions. We will make this again. Super yummy!

  171. I didn’t really like the wontons the most but the bok choy and mushrooms were my favorite part of the whole meal. The broth was a very salty one which is good because I like salty things. I am 10 and I think my sister did not like it that much, though she doesn’t like most of the meals my mom makes. Thanks for the recipe.

    Thanks,
    Milo, 10 years old

  172. This was amazing! I think it tastes better than the restaurant. I added sugar snap peas for more veggies. I always make recipes from Skinnytaste but had to leave a review because it was so delicious and so easy!

  173. Made this. Soup was very good. The second time I added thin sliced serano pepper (for a spice kick), substituted Bibigo Chicken and Veggie Wontons and replaced the the sesame oil with oyster sauce. It’s also good adding white miso paste. This recipe and my variants are definitely a keeper. :^)

  174. Please do you have any wonton suggestions without cilantro? We HATE cilantro. It’s instant tastebud death to any meal.

      1. But it’s in the wontons. Do you know if anyone Carrie’s another kind without it?

    1. There are many other wontons without cilantro. We have one kid that tastes soap whenever he eats it, so we leave it out and put cilantro on the side for the rest of us to add in our bowls. Just pick a wonton that you like the ingredients!

Bibigo chicken wontons from Walmart are AMAZING and no cilantro. Best ever.

      2. I happen to have this brand in my freezer now…surprisingly I bought them at Dollar General in my area (Central PA)
Any comments or tips if anyone used this brand?
        Thank You

    2. You could use parsley instead of cilantro. They are in the same family but personally I like parsley better.

  175. I gave this recipe 5 stars because it is delicious, within my budget, easy to get ingredients, very quick & easy to make and my family loves it!

  176. Wow! A friend and I swap our Skinnytaste faves. She suggested this one and I was hesitant as I am not the biggest soup person. I cannot believe the flavour in this easy soup. It is perfect for lunch on it’s own or could be eaten as a starter for dinner. This will definitely be added into my rotation again.

  177. This is in my regular rotation. I love bok choy and this is a great way to have it. I also love that it uses sesame oil for flavor which I haven’t had enough of in my life. I accidentally used sesame oil with chili in it one time. I do recommend that as an alternative from time to time. Thank you so much for this easy recipe!

  178. A tasty, easy recipe to put together. Perfect when you are sick and need something warm and nutritious!

  179. Delicious and really easy/quick. My one alteration is to cut the cook time for the baby bok choy WAY down. The first time I made it, I gave the bok choy the 5 minute head start on the mushrooms and wontons as recommended, and it was so soft and overcooked. The second time, I added the baby bok choy with the mushrooms and wontons, so they only cooked for 2-3 minutes, and they were crisp-tender, just like in a restaurant. Delicious!

  180. I make this recipe about once a week because it is so easy, tasty, and healthy! I use Bibigo frozen Korean style pork and vegetable mini wontons from Target, and sub spinach for bok choy because it is easier for me to source. I also dice an entire 8oz package of baby Bella mushroom and throw them in and let them cook long enough to get soft in the chicken broth, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil. I also add a decent squirt of siracha Thank you!

  181. This was so good! My kids loved it and it was a great way to sneak in chicken and veggies! Thank you for another family favorite!

  182. Great soup, and so easy to make! I added some grilled chicken pieces to up the protein. Other than that, made it exactly as written. Yum!

  183. Great recipe,  easy to ad extra fresh ingredients! I put in a little broccoli, snap peas and topped with bean sprouts with the scallions.
A dollop of Hoisin enriched the flavours.
    Delicious and EASY 🥰😊

  184. I was looking for something simple to fulfill my take-out craving and use up my big Costco bag of wontons, and this definitely hit the spot! Recipe is great as-is or you could load it up with your favorite veggies, tofu, egg or whatever you like. Will throw this in my soup rotation for an easy weeknight meal. Thanks!

  185. Love this soup. Easy to make and oh so tasty. Our local Vietnamese restaurant closed and they made the most amazing Wonton soup this soup recipe fills that void. We make it all the time now. Thanks.

  186. This is delicious and sooooo easy! Two days ago I came across a light wonton soup recipe and made it. Not bad but lacked flavor. I started to email you asking if you would make a Wonton Soup recipe because everything you make is so flavorful. Just before I hit send, I thought I should make sure you don’t already have one. You do! I made it today and it was amazing! So much flavor!!! The only change I made was a different brand of wontons (pork) because that was what was nearby. It added one point which is no big deal because this is already so low. Thanks for all you incredible recipes!

  187. Thank you very  much for sharing, indeed it’s simple, easy and faster which I’m looking for. For sure I am doing this today yay!
    👌❤️

  188. I cheat and use frozen beef ravioli and bacon bits intended for salad (the real ones, not the fake bacon-flavored crunchies).  I also add a pinch or two of mustard powder.  Yum!

    Hi Gina ,

The Won Ton Soup was delicious , so easy ! I have made your soup three times . Looking forward to checking out more of your recipes ,

    Thank you !
    Linda

    1. This was so good. I added a bit more bok choy, garlic and shrimp. Definetly a go to.

Christine I used 3/4 tsp ground ginger and I liked it.

  191. I tried this recipe out on my students in a cooking class for high school. I’m a chef, and the ginger broth is just Devine. It’s simple, healthy, and my favorite so far. The kiddos were shocked at how good it was because they never worked with ginger before.

  192. I have never made these type of soups before. It was easy and so delicious! Definitely making this again!😋

        Made this….excellent !
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful recipie!

  193. Made this soup tonight and I also made the peppersteak too. Both were great! I used the mini chicken wontons from Trader Joe’s. I felt like I really needed the green onions on top of the soup to punch up the flavor. Will definitely be bringing this for lunch tomorrow. My first time making wonton soup and the recipe is definitely easy to follow. Thanks Gina!

  194. Used a box of Trader Joe’s Miso broth with half a box of the Organic Chicken Stock and diluted with two cups of water. Did not add extra ginger, the Miso flavor was enough, it didn’t need any extra!
    Family loved it.

  195. So easy to make and delicious! My husband and I just loved it. Will be a remake again and again. Added extra mini won tons (about 30 total) and some extra bok choy (for I had to use regular bok choy, not baby bok choy). Thank you so much for sharing this recipe with us. YUM!

Are there really 1218mg of sodium in the Easy Wonton Soup?  It sounds delish but this scares me, lol.

  197. Simple, nourishing and delicious. I used a heavy handed amount of the veggies I had on hand and toasted my sesame oil. The ginger bits were like little treasures. Keeping this in the rotation. Simple enough for a weekend lunch, too.

  198. I am concerned about the high sodium content of this dish. Do you know what the sodium would be if you used “no salt added broth” and low sodium or coconut aminos for the soy sauce?

  199. Fantastic recipe and super easy to make. I followed her instructions exactly and it turned out perfectly. I think I will add thinly sliced carrots to my next batch for extra veg. Definitely will be making again!

I’ve made this recipe several times and it’s always a hit at our house! I love that it’s easy, favorable and WW friendly!

      1. The calculations for WW Personal Points (using the button from your recipe) needed adjusted manually. The bok choy is listed as 4 whole bok choy, not 4 baby bok choy. I was wondering how a serving was giving me 12 veggies!

  201. Does the book chop get weird if you have leftovers and need to reheat? I know the wontons should be left out and added during the reheat process but wasn’t sure about the veggies as well?

Such a wonderful recipe! Made this for dinner tonight my husband loved it too. Thank you for making such great recipes available for all of us. I can’t wait to try some of thee other recipes. I spent the other evening looking and printing some to try.

  204. I am so appreciative of this wholesome, very simple (and quick!) yet flavorful soup. Thank you! Made as written just more of everything as there’s always a hungry belly around here.

    1. This is a favorite in our house! I use the squeezable ginger paste since that’s what I have on hand, and add a heaping Tbsp. of miso paste. Fabulous!

  205. Soooo good. I made the recipe exactly as instructed. It’s my new favorite soup. My picky family even loved it.

    1. they have gluten free soy sauce at the store or coconut adminos would also work you could also look up how to make gluten free wontons, or even of you added chicken and or shrimps and used rice vermicelli noodles it would still be delicious

  206. Just an FYI for the personal points program – it is counting 4 regular bok choy heads, instead of 4 baby bok choy heads and therefore giving you back 12 points for veggies. If tracking this, make sure to edit it because you are not eating 12 cups of veggies per serving of this!

  207. This is a very easy and delicious soup to make. The hardest part was finding the mini wontons, which I did find at Walmart ! I Loved it! So Yummy!! I did not change a thing! And it turned out perfect!

  208. VERY GOOD SOUP. my boyfriend and friends liked it a lot+ it was very simple to make so it didn’t take too much energy. adding beansprouts was a very good decision+i put in more garlic because i love garlic.

  209. This is such an easy delicious recipe. The only thing I added was after the garlic and ginger simmered for awhile I strained the soup so the soup was clear then I added the rest and I also cut up the bok choy to be bite sized. Other than that it was perfect!

  210. This was my first attempt at Wonton Soup. Had I known it would be so quick and easy I would have made this a long time ago!
The first time I make a “new” recipe I follow it as written, then make adjustments if needed.
I’m glad I followed this because it was delicious just the way it is!
It tasted just like the soup I order in the restaurants. When my daughter dropped by, I asked her if she’d like some Wonton Soup, her first (?) was , “oh yummm! Which restaurant?”
    When I explained, “my kitchen”,
    she really was surprised.
My head is swimming with all the
variations I want to try ,( like, using baby spinach in place of bok choy), with the delicious base broth, the possibilities are endless!
    Thank you for sharing!

  211. Love the recipe! First time I made this, I was so impressed. Wouldn’t change a thing. So delicious, my family loves it! Thanks for sharing.

  212. Mine was extremely bland, perhaps due to the low sodium soy sauce and low sodium chicken stock but overall, I like that it is easy to make. I would just add a little more flavor to it whether it be salt or more soy sauce

  213. Mine was bland, perhaps due to the low sodium soy sauce and low sodium chicken stock but overall, I like that it is easy to make. I would just add a little more flavor to it whether it be salt or more soy sauce

  214. I absolutely love this soup. I omit mushrooms and little extra garlic and giner. Perfect for a quick meal!

  215. Another delicious soup! Thank you, Gina.  The only ingredient I couldn’t find was the baby bok choy so I substituted regular bok choy. Will definitely make this again.

  216. The same wontons are sold at Costco in larger bags. Our store shows them on sale through 20th for $4.99. Two Kirkland chicken stock containers are eight cups so I added and extra teaspoon of sesame oil and dark mushroom soy sauce. We went with 25 Wontons and probably could have gone with 35. I went with more ginger and will probably add even more next time.

  217. The first time I made this it was good but I felt the flavors were a little flat. This time I changed the technique and got better flavor. Instead of boiling everything I started by sautéing the garlic, ginger, white part of the scallions, white part of bok choy, and the mushrooms in the sesame oil, plus a little olive oil. Then I added the broth, brought to boil, added wontons 1-2 minutes and stirred in the green parts of the scallions and bok choy at the end. I felt the result was more flavorful.

  218. I’m going to make this for dinner Tuesday night. Hopefully my children will like it. I will let everyone know how it turns out!

This is really yummy and could not be easier! I subbed cabbage for the bok choy (bok choy is tasty but doesn’t agree with me). Next time I’ll try spinach. Will definitely be in my regular rotation for lunch!

Great recipe! I’ve had this open on my Ipad for several days now, so I could remember to get the ingredients and make it. This was delicious. I could eat this every day for lunch and be perfectly happy. I used the Trader Joes Thai Vegetable Gyoza instead and subbed crimini for shitake mushrooms. I was so into it that I forgot to add the scallions I had cup up till I was almost finished eating. Thanks for sharing.

  221. I loved this so much.  I had to tweak cause I didn’t have soy sauce.  Soyyaki sauce from TJ was just perfect.  Will make this again for sure .

  222. I made the recipe as written except that I omitted the mushrooms and used frozen potstickers. Came out great! This is a nice change from my usual homemade chicken noodle soup.

  223. Big hit! I made this recipe after a full afternoon out at the park with my family. We were exhausted and looking for something quick and comforting. Picked up some frozen dumplings at our local market; it was perfect! I added 1/2 tsp of fish sauce for a little extra punch.

I can’t get over how easy this soup is and how flavorful it is (and with so few ingredients)!!!!  We leave out the mushrooms and I double the ginger, but I love that I can think about this soup and be eating it within 30 minutes.

  225. We had this last night and it was so good we are having it again tonight! We used Trader Joe’s potstickers (because we didn’t have wontons), baby bella mushrooms and baby bok choy.

  226. What size pot did you use for this?

I have an 8qt soup pot that’s a bit too large for most recipes. Would appreciate the advice—love your recipes!

    1. Look at a different recipe, this one only does half the work for you. 🙁

You basically want to get wonton wrappers and throw together a filling mixture with ingredients like ground chicken/turkey/pork/whatever, soy sauce, green onions, ginger, sesame oil – check a different recipe for exact measurements. Add 2 tsp of the mixture into each wrapper, fold and seal and repeat until you’ve made all your wontons. Then proceed with this recipe as stated.

  227. Made this for lunch on a chilly Saturday and it was perfect! I chopped the bok choy to make it a little easier to eat with a spoon.  Delicious! There were only two of us eating to I added half of the wontons and will reheat the leftovers with fresh wontons.

    1. Can you use ground ginger instead of fresh? And if so, how much would I use. I know it wouldn’t be much because of how strong it is.

  228. Delicious, family loves it. This is the soup I make when ever I make Chinese. Quick, easy, and delicious what more can you ask for:)

VERY flavorful!Easy to make, and so tasty. Used frozen pot stickers (only had 6), but it turned out well. Will definitely make this again.

    1. Very good! I used regular bok choy and substituted snow peas for the mushrooms. My family doesn’t like mushrooms. Also, used dumplings rather than won tons. Was the perfect soup to end the day with!

This was amazing.  My entire family devoured it.  Would absolutely make it again. Couldn’t find baby bok choy so chopped up regular.

    1. This was delicious! I used baby spinach instead of Bokchoy and Bibigo mini-pork wontons plus added some crunchy fried onions on top before serving. We’re on limited power right now due to crazy weather so I had to use my InstantPot and it came out great! Perfect for a snowy day. Thanks for posting!

  231. Ok, this was sooo good! My only regret is that I only made a single batch! Low in ww points, but really really great flavor. Don’t skip the sesame oil, as it adds so much!

  232. OMG I loveeeee this recipe. I’ve made it weekly the past few weeks. I reheat the broth and add the wontons and spinach for a nice warm lunch break from working outside. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

  233. This was very good. I have started making it without the wontons and with 8 to 10 baby bok choy, basically bok choy soup. It’s very good and low calorie

I made this a couple of times. The first time I used baby bok choy and regular sesame oil. The next time, I used spinach instead of bok choy and toasted sesame oil. Much preferred the second version and keeping it for my soup rotation of recipes. No Trader Joe’s available nearby so I used the Costco chicken cilantro wontons instead. Quick, healthy and delicious! Thanks for a great recipe!

Points value is misleading, 2 points for soup not including wontons. Shrimp wontons were 7 points.

  236. Does not make sense making it on your own as the cost of the ingredients is more than twice the cost of ordering from a restaurant.
Chinese dishes require many ingredients and take time to prepare, ending at higher expense and effort.

  237. This was crazy good.  Tasted just like take out to me.  Instead of using shiitake mushrooms, I thinly sliced regular button mushrooms.

My 17 year old made this for us tonight. I have been having her cook something simple on Fridays for me. A) to teach her how to cook a healthy meal by herself B) to give me a night off from cooking. This soup did not disappoint. Delicious.

  238. My kids and husband love this soup. They hate any soup that is not chilli. I am so amazed by how much they like it and how quick it goes together. Plus, my husband likes it so much that he even cooked it for me once when I was sick.

  239. Leftover wontons disintegrate and get mushy. I learned that the hard way when I put the leftovers, with about 6 wontons, in fridge. Not too good on day 2. You could freeze the broth/soup and just reheat and add the wontons.

  240. This is a easy soup to make and filling, but it was missing something. Followed the recipe but I like a little more oriental flavor. Soy sauce? I don’t know. Next time I’ll experiment adding additional oriental taste. Maybe using a miso broth instead of chicken broth?

    1. Gma Karen -We love this recipe! I’ve used Miso broth instead of.chicken broth the last few times I’ve made it and we have preferred the Miso.

  241. I’ve made this soup twice for my son and I. We haven’t had any leftover for lunches even though I make double the amount. My son said that it’s a keeper and he’s a picky eater. The only change I made was to use regular bok choy but I took the advice from one of the reviewers to just discarded the thick stems and cut up the leaves. Thanks for all the great recipes;)

  242. 10/10 would make again!

I cut the recipe in half since it is only me here. I used Better than Bullion and added it to the water as it was heating up. Instead of fresh ginger, I used a about 1/16th each of ground ginger and Chinese 5 Spice. And since I couldn’t find wontons, I used frozen vegetable dumplings from Wegmans. I also added a couple of shakes of crushed red peppers at the end. Delicious! I am saving the other serving for lunch tomorrow.

I added some chinese 5 spice to this and it made it even better, and more authentic tasting. Overall a great recipe.

  244. Soup was delicious! My son is very picky and I had two big bowls. The only thing I changed was the bok choy. The store didn’t have baby bok choy so I used regular bok choy. I took the advice in one of the comments to just discarded the thick stems and cut up the leaves. I also add spinach and extra garlic. Will make again and again!

  245. My 2nd time making this tonight, only this time I used Trader Joe’s, miso ginger broth, and cut the ginger and soy sauce. My husband and kids loved it. My youngest son even thanked me for switching up dinner, to something so good.

  246. My husband and I LOVED this recipe. Kids were out for the night so I just split the recipe in half…easy to adjust. I added a bit extra of the fresh ginger and garlic and also some red pepper flakes. I didn’t have the bok choy but spinach and mushroom combo were delicious. Costco wontons. Very flavorful and something different for a change!

  247. This was so easy and delicious! I only had regular chicken broth, not low sodium and added spinach and snap peas since I didn’t have bok choy. Had the Costco wontons. So easy and lots of options, thank you!!

Excellent! I followed the recipe to the letter except at Step 3, when it states to add the bok choy and veggies, I also added shrimp. Delicious my family couldn’t believe how much it tasted like restaurant level wonton soup. 🙂

Loved this recipe! I made it for my parents who are tough critics and they really enjoyed it as well. Quick and easy, and tastes delicious. The ginger just adds the right amount of punch too.

  250. I had some baby bok choy in the fridge that I needed to use up, along with some homemade chicken broth, ginger, and cremini mushrooms, and some dumplings and shrimp in the freezer, so when I came across this recipe, I couldn’t resist. I have to admit that cooking is not a science project for me, so the only things I measured beyond a good guess were the soy sauce and sesame oil It turned out great! Definitely a keeper. Thank you!

    1. I’m into freezing too. I think I’m going to try to make and omit the wontons and freeze. I’ll add wontons when I reheat.

  251. This was seriously amazing! I added a whole package of full-sized dumplings because that is all I had. I also added some dino kale and thinly sliced carrots and it was amazing and so easy. Will definitely be making again. Thank you for the great recipe!

  252. Might be my favorite wonton soup ever! I added carrots and broccoli and another time I added chicken and shrimp. So good!

This is so good.. i will be making this a lot. i had to use ginger powder, kale, and chicken tortellini since the store didn’t carry all the ingredients needed.. Thank you.

  254. Absolutely delicious. I also used the Better Than Bullion like Lisa did and 1/4 tsp of ginger since I did not have any in the house. I made sure the stock tasted good before adding the remaining ingredients. I also used canned mushrooms in place of the fresh shitake. My husband loved it and had a second bowl immediately. I will be making it again and again. Thank you!

  255. Delicious! I used escarole instead of bokchoy,  1/4 tsp. of ground ginger instead of fresh, and the mini chicken cilantro wontons from Costco because that’s what I had in the house. I also used Better Than Bouillon instead of regular chicken broth which I think has a lot more flavor. This soup is so good…I’ll definitely make it again.

  256. This was not very good. Literally no flavor. I had to add a lot of salt to it to make me want to eat it.

  257. I’d like to make this vegetarian and substitute vegetable broth for chicken broth. Would you use the same measurement?

I’ve made this a few times since the stay at home order. I live alone, so I’ve made one serving each time. I enjoyed it every time but it was best when I allowed the aromatics more tine in the broth. Just a few extra minutes on a low heat made a difference. I did add a small amount of lo main noodles to make it more filling (cooked separately). I keep meaning to add shrimp, but I haven’t missed it.

  259. Delicious. I added 1 diced jalapeno, 1/2 Serrano pepper, 4 scallions, a small can of straw mushrooms, and 2 T seasoned rice vinegar. Husband loved this. Thank you!

  260. I made the wonton soup using the trader joes wontons last night. I added spinach instead of bokchoy and it was great. I love the fresh ginger flavor and the texture of the mushrooms. Thanks for a great easy recipe.

  261. I made this for dinner tonight and it is so yummy and very easy. Thanks for another great recipe.

  262. My family does not like bok choy so I substituted fresh spinach nd they loved it! I also added in some shredded chicken!

I made this tonight and it was a complete success! The only thing that I didn’t have was sesame oil so I left it out and I subbed crimini mushrooms. Definitely will make this again. So easy.

  264. My 10 year olds loved this recipe! This was a huge hit in my house and so easy to do. They even ate the bok choy. Wow.

  265. When I put all the nutritional values in the calculator on the WW website, it’s coming up as 4pts. Am I missing something? How did you get 2pts? (I’m in blue, btw)

    1. The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website (Click on “My Foods,” select “Recipe,” and click “Create a recipe.”)

The SmartPoints® calculator isn’t meant for recipes and will often give you the wrong points (usually higher) because it’s counting 0 points foods such as eggs, chicken, fruits and vegetables. So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, that is why.

  266. I can’t believe how fast and easy it was to make such a tasty soup. Trader Joe’s is the only place around my house that regularly sells baby bok choy and shiitake mushrooms so it was easy to find all of the ingredients at the same store. I loved that I didn’t have to chop a ton of ingredients and the few minutes in between each addition gave me plenty of time to chop the next item. Truly a quick and easy recipe. It might even take the crown as my new favorite skinnytaste recipe. I’ve been visiting your site for years but just recently started counting calories and having been making most of my lunches and dinners from your site for about a month now and I’ve lost 12 pounds!

  267. You make the most fantastic soups! This was so delicious. Great depth of flavor, really hearty and filling. We absolutely loved it. I didn’t go to Trader Joe’s, but used mini wontons I found at Walmart (Bibigos Chicken and Vegetable) and they were delicious too.
My husband said that he would love to see recipes come through for Miso Soup and Hot and Sour Soup as those are his favs. We are certain that if you ever create recipes for those, we will never feel the need to buy them in restaurants ever again lol
Thank you for all that you do!

  268. Liked this but mostly because of the dumplings. The ginger slices were too much so I’d scoop those out or use powdered ginger in the future. I liked the broth but it didn’t taste like the wonton broth flavor I was expecting.  Good recipe, but not my favorite from her collection. Not sure if I’d make again.

Wish I had a Trader Joe’s so I could get those mini wontons!

I couldn’t find frozen wontons in any store near me, so I found a recipe and made my own, and then used your ideas for adding more veggies and flavoring the broth. What a revelation! Not difficult at all, and so delicious! I love wonton soup, but we hardly ever order take-out,. Now I know I can make it myself, control the sodium content and up the veggie content. Thank you!

  270. This was really good! i am so excited to have this recipe. I omitted bok choy because of my child, though I do like it. I added broccoli slaw instead. Next time I will add more spices, and cilantro. I will definitely make this again1

    1. I wuite enjoyed this soup. There is a lot of room to play around with this recipe. Tonight I used some homemade broth, the Trader .joes cilantro wontons, some baby shiitake from the farmers market, frozen peas, baby bok choy and fresh chopped cilantro. I also added an egg like you would in an egg drop soup. next time I would cut my bok choy a little bit smaller as it was a bit big and sloppy to eat. This soup will be in the regular rotation.

      1. I don’t know why that posted my whole review…sorry!

You could omit the sesame oil or be daring and add chili oil

  271. I just made this soup and it was wonderful!!! So flavorful and full of goodies. I keep these won tons on hand because they are yummy and so low in points .Love your recipes, Thanks you for all that you do. 🙂

  272. This was so good!!! We had this for dinner last night and it was so easy and so good. We had this with Spicy shrimp stackers. So much better than any take out and so easy! Thank you

Made this tonight.  Kitchen smelled amazing  only to be exceeded by the delicious lingering taste in my mouth.  Made it exactly as written.  Family loved it.  And so easy too.  Win, win.  Thanks Gina!

  274. Made this last night, and it was perfection. Topped it with cilantro and a dollop of sambal oelek as well. Emailed this to a ton of my girlfriends this AM. Too delicious and too simple not to share. Five stars for sure! Pro tip: Trader Joe’s also sells a miso ginger broth that worked well here.

To be honest, i was a bit underwhelmed by the flavor of the broth. I loved the mini wontons. I had no idea they existed and they will be part of my routine from now on.  I could not find baby bok choi in my grocery store nearby and did not wanted to purchase as big one, as i am cooking for one. However, I added a good healthy amount of kimchi to the soup instead and it definitely gave it some heat and some additional flavor. I am thinking, next time  I will add some Miso paste . Otherwise, thank you for the tip of the frozen wonton.

So good and easy to make. I cut recipe in half for 2 of us. Better than wonton soups at restaurants!

  276. Great flavorful soup but my wontons burst in the pot! Made it vegetarian with veg broth and frozen veg potstickers from Sprouts. Thanks for the great recipes!!!

Absolutely delicious and so easy! I did add chicken for some protein. We all loved it! My adult son (34) who doesn’t like “diet” food, always comments on how delicious these recipes are. I then fill him in that they are ST. He’s coming around! He loved this tonight, too!

  278. This soup is so good, followed recipe and my kids loved it. I liked the fact that I tried bok choy for the first time as far as cooking with it at home and glad I did. My daughter said it was better than a restaurant which for her to throw out compliments is amazing lately(teenager). Thank you so much for the wonderful recipes!

  279. I made this for lunch today using TJs veggie gyoza (what I had on hand) and cooked some jasmine rice on the side to add to the bowls to bulk it up. It was a huge hit! My 11 year old had 2 servings, and my husband had 3 servings! He added sriracha to his bowl to give it a little spice. I’m a homeschooling mom, so I’m always looking for quick and easy lunches that everyone likes. This one will be in the regular rotation!

  280. I bought some Cooked baby salad shrimp to add but they are frozen- should I cook them prior or add them in at some point??

So easy and delicious!  I had spinach on hand instead of bok choy and I used ALDI mini chicken and veg wontons. Thank you for the great recipes!

  282. I knew I needed to make this from the instant you posted it. We had it last night with your cauliflower fried rice, and it was soooo good!  And filling!  The add-ins to the broth gave it a great depth of flavor.  Next time I want to add a chili oil, too. My family agreed that this one was a keeper!

I made this soup last night for dinner (the first time I had EVER purchased Bok Choy!), and my husband and I loved it!  I give it a 5 star rating!

  286. OMG….I made this soup last night & it was super easy to make & it was very good…so good I had 2 servings which made it a 5 point dinner!!! I’ll have the rest for dinner tonight. Thank you for sharing.

  287. Hi I am doing Weight Watchers Blue. You have the points @ 2 for this recipe but when I calculate it, it is actually 4. That happened on another recipe I used from this site as well. I am confused.

    1. You have to put the ingredients into recipe builder for accurate points. Also different brands of broth with give you different points.

  288. Made last night and everyone loved it!  Easy and super fast recipe. Cauliflower fried rice on the side made it a meal with low WW point value. Thanks for the recipe!

  289. This looks very good and I haven’t tried it yet. But just a question about the serving size. I see it is 1 1/2 cups but approximately, how many wontons are in a bowl of this soup?

    Thank you!

    1. My sister uses this recipe:

      8 ounces ground chicken
      2 cloves garlic, minced
      2 green onions, thinly sliced
      1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon reduced sodium soy sauce
      1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
      1 teaspoon sesame oil
      1/4 teaspoon white pepper
      36 2-inch won ton wrappers

mix filling ingredients, put about 1 tbsp chicken mixture on each wonton wrapper, wet edges of wrapper to stick, and fold over and seal.

  290. Love Wonton soup.
Questions: when you add the ginger and garlic, do you reduce the heat or keep it at a boil? I would think reduce to simmer. But not sure.
When you add the bok choy, do not cover the pot?
    Thanks.
    Sunny D☀️🎾

  291. This soup looks amazing.   I know there is a really good gluten free dumpling (not quite a wonton but close) at Whole Foods.   Does anyone else know of a gluten free option anywhere else?

  292. Not to sound obtuse, but what does halved lengthwise and halved mean? Cut lengthwise, then halve those halves?

      1. When you cut the bike Chou in half lengthwise and then cut that in half, do you again cut it lengthwise or crosswise?

This looks very good, but the sodium level of over 1200 mg is over the top and unhealthy. With only 1 T of soy sauce I wouldn’t expect it to be that high. Where is all the sodium coming from? T

    1. Some brands of low sodium chicken broth are still pretty high. She often recommends Swanson’s, which has far more sodium than other low sodium broths.

    1. Properly stored, leftover wonton soup will last for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.
To further extend the shelf life of leftover wonton soup, freeze it; freeze in covered airtight containers or heavy-duty freezer bags.
How long does leftover wonton soup last in the freezer? Properly stored, it will maintain the best quality for about 4 to 6 months but will remain safe beyond that time.
The freezer time shown is for best quality only – leftover wonton soup that has been kept constantly frozen at 0°F will keep safe indefinitely. Found on stilltasty.com

  294. Best soup ever! I added in some extra veggies and doubled the garlic and ginger for a punch. My grocery store only had potstickers, which turned out surprisingly great. This will be my new go-to!

  295. This was yummy & so very easy.  I think I will use less ginger next time.

I put this recipe into the WW app recipe builder & it only came out to 2 purple points, not 3 as the recipe states.  I guess it can depend on the specific ingredients you use but I used the Trader Joe’s mini wontons that are recommended & they are the highest point item in the recipe.

  296. I saw this recipe and knew I had to make it immediately because I love TJ’s wontons and I’m always looking for new ways to consume them lol. This was really delicious and had great flavors. The grocery store didn’t have baby bok choy so I used regular bok choy, just discarded the thick stems and cut up the leaves. I also added bean sprouts at the same time as the bok choy. I also used some of the Trader Joe’s umami seasoning. Delicious soup and I will definitely be making this again!

  297. Can’t wait to try this I’m heading to Trader Joe’s today! How would it be leftover? I don’t want the wontons falling apart if it is saved for leftovers. Would you recommend making one serving at a time?

  298. I joined WW today, and I am very excited to cook this soup! Your site is full of wonderful recipes. Thank you!

  299. Did you try this as leftovers? I’m wondering if the wontons will keep their texture for meal prep, or if I should add them in as I heat up the soup each day for lunch.

    1. I know this is rather late! But I keep the cooked wontons separate and then add them to the broth as I reheat 🙂

  300. Is there an error in the serving size? It states 1/2 cup, but that doesn’t seem right. Should it be 1 and 1/2 cups?

    1. Great recipe! Love that 15 minutes actually meant 15 minutes. We skipped the mushrooms and I ended up splitting the recipe into two pots before adding the wontons (one pork; one veggie). Love the bok choy! Although my kids weren’t huge fans. Would definitely make it again.

      1. How can you adapt this for the Instant Pot? I’m thinking throw everything in and do manual HP for 6-8 min?
