Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan Recipe
If you don’t have an air-fryer, you can follow my baked chicken parmesan recipe here. I brush the chicken with melted butter or oil instead of using egg before the breadcrumbs to give it that “fried” taste without frying. To see some of my other air-fryer recipes, click here.
Air Fryer Tips For Success
To Preheat or Not To Preheat!
Although not all models have a preheat function, I find to get consistent results each time, preheating the air fryer for 3 minutes. If you air fryer doesn’t come with a preheat function, simply set the air fryer, with the basket inserted for 3 minutes, to the temperature you plan on using, just a few minutes before you plan on cooking your food. If you wish to skip this step, you can add 2 to 3 minutes to the cook time.
Don’t Overcrowd the Basket
It’s best to cook food in a single layer so the air circulates and browns your food. If it doesn’t fit, cook food in batches to avoid overcrowding the basket preventing it from turning crisp.
Flip Halfway
In most cases, flipping your food over halfway is essential to evenly cooked and browned food on both sides, since the heating element is usually at the top. Smaller foods like French fries or vegetables, shaking the basket a few times rather than flipping, will get everything evenly browned and crisp.

Chicken Parmesan in the Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 2 8 ounce boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced lengthwise to make 4 thinner cutlets
- 6 tbsp seasoned breadcrumbs, whole wheat or gluten-free
- 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp butter, melted (or olive oil)
- 6 tbsp reduced fat mozzarella cheese, I used Polly-o
- 1/2 cup marinara
- olive oil spray
Instructions
- Combine breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese in a bowl. Melt the butter in another bowl.
- Lightly brush the butter onto the chicken, then dip into breadcrumb mixture.
- When the air fryer is ready, transfer to the air fryer basket, in batches as needed and spray the top with oil.
- Air fryer 360F° 5 minutes, turn and top each with 2 tbsp sauce and 1 1/2 tbsp of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Cook 3 more minutes or until cheese is melted.
My air fryer needed a hotter setting so when I put the marinara and cheese on, and cooked it, I had to cook it a bit longer and the cheese burned a bit. Lesson learned. But good easy recipe overallÂ
Long time fan of skinnytaste but my first time commenting and this recipe most certainly warrants it. It was so easy and so delicious. I admit i cheated and used chicken tenders instead of slicing the chicken breasts but nevertheless the flavor and tenderness was excellent. Another great recipe and will most certainly be on our weekly rotation!Â
Thanks Isabel!
I make your oven baked chicken Parmesan recipe weekly as our family loves it. I just got an air fryer so decided to do that recipe tonight. I put the first batch on a plate with tented foil to keep it warm while I cooked the second batch and the first batch got a little soggy on the bottom. Â Next time I will keep it warm on a sheet pan in a low oven to avoid that problem. But, it was still delicious and I will continue making it for sure!
Made these for dinner tonight. Â It was wonderful! Â I am going to keep this recipe in my rotation. Â Thank you.
Turned out really good. Easy peasy.
Hi, this looks amazing and I plan to make this tomorrow. I also thought the salad was a great accompaniment and was curious as to what ingredients and dressing were used? It looks like lettuce nicely cut with cucumber, and maybe an olive oil dressing? Any clarifications would be great, thanks so much and thank you for the great idea! 🙂Â
We loved it!!
These came out perfect! A lot easier than the oven chicken parmesan recipe I usually use, and a lot faster! I followed the recipe exactly and actually found thin cuts of chicken breast at the store. We will be making these again!
I have always wanted to make this and have it turn out like Pasta House dish. This is even better! So easy and delicious! FYI- I had to cook one piece a little longer due to it being a little thicker than the other pieces. Definitely will make this dish often.
Omg!!! Soo good and pretty easy dinner!! My husband even loved it! Followed exact steps and turned out great!Â
Made this for my friend and I the other night and it was lovely! Can’t wait for hubby to get back from his annual deer hunt to treat him to it as well! Great recipe, thoroughly enjoyed in PEI, Canada 🇨🇦Â
My chicken was undercooked initially so I cooked it an additional 6 min as the other reviewers suggested before adding the sauce and cheese. Also I felt it was lacking in flavor and perhaps adding garlic powder, salt , and Italian seasoning would punch it up a notch. Using the air fryer was much easier than the stovetop and the chicken came out very  tender and moist.Â
I have the ninja for the record. I think next time I will cut the chicken thinner and also increase temp to 390, following same general time.Â
Amazing!! So easy and so tender and flavorful! Great recipe!!Â
I made this for dinner tonight and my husband and I really liked it. Â Previously I had also made the Baked Chicken Parmesan in the oven and they are very similar. Â I served it with spaghetti with Gina’s quick Marinara Sauce. Keeper for sure!!
This is amazing. Still cant believe how easy and delicious this is.
Okay, I love this recipe but the only thing I can think of is perhaps it should have read 6 minutes, flip over, cook another 6 minutes, then add sauce and cheese and cook for 3 more. At least that’s what I did after the first batch came out completely undercooked. Second batch using this method was perfectÂ
I agree with you
Totally agree. My chicken came out undercooked and had to contihue to cook but the sauce and cheese burned.
This was a good recipe, however, I did have to add time to the chicken. I have a new NuWave air fryer that I just purchased so I know it’s not my air fryer. I added two minutes before adding the sauce (8 minutes total) and added three more minutes (6 minutes total) after the sauce. I used thinly cut chicken tenders from Sprouts.Â
Christina, I just rec’d. my NuWave and am going to make this chicken tomorrow. Did you use the probe or chicken preset first? I’m feeling a bit intimidated with all the functions these air fryer has.
This was so good! Usually I am a critic of my own cooking, but this time I agreed with my husband that this is restaurant quality. Not to mention, it came together very quickly. I used your quick marinara sauce and had mine with about an ounce of whole wheat pasta and an arugula salad with tomato and cucumber. I can see us eating this frequently!
My kids and husband loved it!
What could be better!  No oil, so no frying, no egg, didn’t need it, this was delicious.  I have an XL air fryer, had it for two years, am making so many different things in it I never thought of!  It’s my new toaster.  Got rid of the other one.  I do love my kitchen toys!  🇨🇦
