I have a weakness for Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches, so when my sister-in-law brought this philly cheesesteak dip to my Mom’s on Christmas, I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days – it was that good! I needed to figure out a way to make this lighter so I played around with it and came up with a solution, worthy to bring to any party!

I replaced the steak with chicken, cut the cream cheese in half and used light instead, and replaced the rest with light sour cream (I tried it with Greek yogurt but didn’t taste as good). The final result was DELICIOUS! 🙂

For dipping I bought a whole wheat baguette, sliced it thin and toasted it but bagel thins, pretzel thins, tortilla chips or even crudites would work! This can be made one day in advance and stored in the refrigerator before baking.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Gina,
This is a very tasty recipe. I will be making again. We started Thanksgiving early this year and I used 8oz left over cooked smoked turkey (Butterball from Walmart) instead of the chicken. It was very quick since the turkey was already cooked. I had mine with celery and the rest of the family with tortilla chips. Served it as the main course and my family loved it. Be safe and have a good holiday with your family

    1. In her explanation about the recipe she said she tried it with Greek yogurt but it wasn’t as good.

  2. Was not a fan. This should not be marked as Keto. Seemed too sour to me. My husband would barely eat it.

  3. I just calculated this to put into the App and it says 4 Freestyle points for the 1/4 cup. Not 2 FP.

    1. Hi Colby. The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website (Click on “My Foods,” select “Recipe,” and click “Create a recipe.”) which does not count fruits and vegetables in recipes in the calculations as they are now 0 points.

The SmartPoints® calculator isn’t meant for recipes and will often give you the wrong points (usually higher) because it’s counting the fruits and vegetables. So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, now you know why.

  4. This was absolutely delicious and  perfect to share with friends.  Everyone raved about it.  Will definitely make this again!

  5. Just made this for a super bowl party tomorrow! Thank you for this perfect dip to bring to a PHILADELPHIA EAGLES SUPER BOWL!!!! Go Eagles! Can’t wait to try it. Be cause I had to make it today for time sake, I did everything up to the baking part, have it all mixed up in the fridge and will put in a crock pot tomorrow!

    1. I am planning on doing the same thing! How many hours are you putting it I. Your crockpot? Are you putting it on low?

  6. My husband made this for New Year’s Day, and it was gone in minutes! So delicious. He’s making it again for the Super Bowl and we are doubling the recipe, it is a hit.

  7. I just made this for the third time in 3 weeks (there’s been a love of football games/parties, go eagles!) for my work Super Bowl party and have received SO many compliments on it. 3 people have already asked me for the recipe and we’re still eating!

I made this just like the recipe, and omitted the green peppers, then used it as a filling for stuffed peppers. Y’ALL! It was so good! Thanks so much for this recipe, it’s amazing!

  9. I really dislike mayo (even in recipes like this), but this sounds amazing! Any suggestions for substitutions without compromising taste? I absolutely love all of the other ingredients so I was hoping you can give me another option! Thanks so much!

    1. I’m also not a fan of mayo and can’t actually have it right now due to eggs but was thinking of making this. My thought was just a little extra sour cream instead? But I’d love an idea from someone who knows more!

  10. Hi Gina,

love your recipes!! I wanted to know if you think the flavor would be affected if I prepped everything up to step 5 (combine all ingredients in a bowl), refrigerated it overnight and then tossed it in a crock pot the next day? Thanks!

  11. Did this today after wanting to do this for a month. It turned out really good! Though for me, since I added a greater chicken portion, I needed more cream cheese and sour cream. Everything turned out delicious! And What i did for the chips instead was toasting soft flour tortillas. I cut them into eatable sizes and put them on a tray. They became crispy! Loved it! Will redo this again. Though it was a bit tedious for me in regards to time. But food done with love…it is worth it in the end!

let us know what you’ve modified.

    Thanks

  13. Made this for the football party today hoping it will be a hit.  My husband can hardly stay out of it good thing I made a double batch!

This was soooooo delicious, Gina! Omg! I love all of your recipes but this might be my absolute favorite. The only thing I changed was substituting the onions for onion powder (I hate onions lol) and it worked great!! Thank you for putting this together! Slam dunk!

I made this for NYE & it turned out great! All my friends loved it. I used whipped cream cheese instead of light (less calories than light by a small amount & tastes better!)

  16. I made this last night for a NYE gathering at a friend's house! It came out awesome! It was a huge hit! They've requested it again! I didn't have green peppers but I had those rainbow peppers (red, yellow, orange) so I used them and it made it so festive looking! Also I didn't have a regular onion, only red onion so I used that and it came out great! Thanks again for another huge hit! Love it! Happy New Year!!

  17. What do you think about the dip as a sandwich filling? Just like hot chicken salad that I have eaten before.

  18. A true Philly cheese steak is made with either wiz or American and fried onions. It does not include peppers. This is like saying Pizza Hut is New York pizza.

  19. WAlmart carries a cream cheese that is yogurt I use all the time. I also use vegenaise that is my light mayo. Theseare my substitutions.

  20. So funny but I just made this dip for our Christmas progressive dinner party. I left the steak in (used sirloin) and I used light cream cheese and sour cream since I always use light. Everyone loved it. Served it with toasted baguette slices too.

Looks amazing! Does you cookbook Skinny Taste have the new smartpoints system or the points plus system? Thanks!!

  22. You are better off using regular anything, as using "light" anything is worse then the calories due to the chemicals used to make it light… can't wait to try this one, without the "light"

    1. You're thinking of fat-free, not light. Light mayo looks basically the same as regular mayo, just with a shift In the proportion of ingredients. And light sour cream just uses lower fat milk than the regular.

I agree, light food usually has too much added ingredients to make up for the taste of the real thing. Maybe eat a smaller portion of the good thing. Sounds delicious

      1. So using a crock pot would just omit using the oven all together right?!! I want to make this for my daughter’s Bridal Shower next month and I want it kept warm for the whole event.
TIA for your delish recipes Gina!!

Oh wow, this looks so yummy! I love having a healthier option to all the heavy New Year's dips!

  24. This looks and sounds delicious! I'm thinking about subbing the sour cream with greek yogurt. Any reason you can think of that makes that a bad idea?

    1. I actually forgot to add the sour cream ????. It was still delicious. So you can leave it out if you don’t want/like it.
