This easy, weeknight-friendly air fryer chicken parmesan is speedy, cheesy, and delicious. Your family will love this lighter twist on the classic Italian-inspired chicken dish. Layer crispy chicken with savory marinara sauce and mozzarella, and cook it quickly in the air fryer instead of heating the oven!

Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan Recipe
This past weekend, we made chicken parmesan for dinner, and since only three of us were eating, I used the air fryer. The results were great, and no complaints from my husband, so that means he approved! If you love your air fryer as much as me, you might also want to try some of my other air fryer chicken recipes, like crispy air fryer chicken tenders, easy Air Fryer Chicken Nuggets, and this Chicken Cordon Bleu that you can bake in the oven or air fryer.

Only 6 Ingredients
These are the classic chicken parmesan ingredients needed for this recipe. The only difference is that we’re cooking in the air fryer! Scroll to the recipe card for the exact recipe measurements.
- Chicken Breasts – Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are the traditional choice for chicken parmesan. Slice the chicken breasts lengthwise to make four smaller cutlets. You can also use chicken thighs or make chicken parmesan tenders.
- Breadcrumbs – Use gluten-free breadcrumbs as needed.
- Parmesan cheese – The second star ingredient! Freshly grated parmesan cheese will melt more smoothly and have better flavor than pre-grated parm.
- Butter – Melted, or you can use olive oil.
- Mozzarella cheese – I like to use reduced fat mozzarella, but any kind will do. Provolone is a good substitute in this recipe.
- Marinara sauce – This can be bottled or you can use my quick homemade marinara or tomato sauce.

How To Make Chicken Parmesan in the Air Fryer
Here’s the easy step-by-step. See the printable recipe in the recipe card below.
- Make a breading station. Combine breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese in a bowl. Melt the butter in another bowl.
- Coat the chicken. Lightly brush the butter onto the chicken. Then, dip each chicken piece into the breadcrumb mixture, dredging to coat all sides.
- Cook. Transfer the chicken to the air fryer. You may need to cook in batches. Spray the tops of the chicken lightly with olive oil spray. Air fry at 360ºF for 5 minutes.
- Add the toppings. Flip, and top each chicken piece with marinara sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese. Cook for another 3 minutes to melt the cheese. Enjoy!
Air Fryer Tips For Success
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. It’s best to cook food in a single layer so the air circulates and browns your food. If it doesn’t fit, cook food in batches to avoid overcrowding the basket, preventing it from turning crisp.
- Flip halfway through cooking. In most cases, flipping your food over halfway is essential to evenly cooked and browned food on both sides, since the heating element is usually at the top. Smaller foods like French fries or vegetables, shaking the basket a few times rather than flipping, will get everything evenly browned and crisp.

How to Serve Chicken Parmesan
This air fryer chicken parmesan makes a quick and easy chicken parm sandwich during the week. Enjoy it inside a fluffy whole wheat bun or hoagie roll, like a hero, for a satisfying lunch. You can also try it in a chicken parmesan burger. Or, serve it over spaghetti or fresh tomato pasta for dinner.

This is my go to recipe when we need a quick dinner!
So tasty and easy!
This is my go to recipe when we need a quick dinner! So tasty & so easy!
Thank you!
Excelkent
I followed the receipe exactly but the crumb coating never got crisp? What did I do wrong?
Easy and delicious. I only had chicken thighs, but I used those and it increased the length of time to cook a little bit and they turned out great. I also added a little more seasoning, but that’s how I like my food.
Made this for a lazy Sunday cooking and it turns out extraordinary. Just a few ingredients, easy to prepare and delicious. Thank you.
Came out so good, even substituting mozzarella sticks and shake and bake for bread crumbs
This is one of our family faves! And as my son says, “Skinnytaste hasn’t let us down yet!”
YAY
This is one of our family’s favorite recipes! Delicious, juicy, and healthier version of a class. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Very tasty. I halved the recipe as I’m cooking for one and served with polenta. It was delicious.
Love this recipe. Delicious, quick, and easy! What’s not to love?
Fast and flavorful. Better than store bought or at a restaurant.
It’s was super easy and delicious
This recipe is quick, easy and delicious. I made it with a hearty marinara sauce (tomatoes, spinach, mushroom, onions and garlic).
Excellent dish! Easy and tasty
Super quick and EASY! The chicken was so tender and delicious.
Deeeeelicious!!! I always double the Skinnytaste recipes so I can feed my family for two nights, but they gobbled this down so fast I don’t have enough for tomorrow – I have to triple it next time! I have a toaster style air fryer and did cook the chicken longer (flipped and another 5 minutes, then the sauce and cheese for three), but I I think another 3 or 4 would have been enough.
What are the sugars per serving?
Excellent! Really enjoyed this. I cooked my chicken for 6 min. before flipping as mine were a bit thicker. I kept it simple and paired with a yummy caesar salad. Will definitely make again!
Delicious! Tastes great and easy to make! I do have a question as I follow the WW points. There are 8 slices of chicken, and it states 1 1/2 Tablespoons of mozzarella cheese on each, which would total 12 Tablespoons, when 6 are listed in the ingredients. Please clarify. Thanks!
It’s only 4 pieces of chicken. 2 breasts cut into 2:).
This chicken parmesan is so delicious. Basting with butter instead of dipping in an egg mixture makes all of the difference. The bread crumbs stuck well and the butter added great flavor. I used fresh Kosher chicken and the result was so tender and flavorful that i can’t wait to make it again.
This was easy to prepare and delicious. I will make it again my family enjoyed it.
I used this recipe for chicken tenders with your marinara sauce. Delicious. It was a hit.
YUMMY! I loved how tasty and easy this was to make for 2 of us. Loved it!
do you think this would work with cornflakes instead of bread crumbs?
The overall recipe is easy and good, but this is nowhere near enough cooking time or a high enough temperature for chicken breast. My chicken was still entirely pink.
Sounds like your breasts were thicker or your air fryer is lower wattage. Mine comes out perfect each time.
So easy and delicious.
Turned out great! I halved the recipe since there are only 2 of us and it came out perfect.
This was so delicious!!
This is a winner! We loved it. Fast and easy.
Just tried this recipe! You’d swear it was fried! Love it! So easy and so tasty!!
Super easy and fast for a weeknight meal
Delicious and easy!
It was nice and juicy. We loved it and will make it again.
Easy to make and delicious
Excellent, easy, quick, tasty.
This was supper tonight. Delicious!! Will be making it again. Thank you for sharing.
Delicious and super easy. I will definitely be making this again.
Tasty and easy to make for two. I used a very good jarred sauce I had purchased. The chicken and whole wheat linguine plus vegetables made a healthy dinner.
From the video, the chicken looks dry. I have her cookbook and have made so many recipes for years out of it. Just bought the air fryer and want to try the Chicken Parm out. Was the chicken juicy?
Pizza Quick instead of marinara for zing.
Hubby and I loved it, and so easy to prepare in the air fryer! Paired it with some spaghetti squash, and tossed salad for a low carb filling meal.
I’m wondering if there’s an error in the directions or they’re just not cheese clear. My chicken was very pink and had to be cooked 5 more minutes in the air fryer. Should be 5 minutes, turn, cook 5 MORE minutes, then add the sauce and cheese and cook 3 minutes.
I think this is spot on. I did 5 minutes, put sauce on, and then did another 5 minutes and the chicken wasn’t ready yet. I had to do more time and wish I had waited to put the cheese on 🙁
I’ve learned to check each piece with a thermometer because my food was never cooking correctly until I put a thermometer in the oven after preheating said ready, it was not coming to temp. I leave it in there permanently so I can check and make sure the temp is not dropping while using the oven.
Every stove is different especially the cheaper models like I have in a senior complex. The same with Air Fryers.
Super easy, and utterly DELICIOUS! I added Italian spices to the breadcrumbs and Parmesan, and used olive oil instead of butter, but we love olive oil. It’s also healthier than butter, and is lighter in flavor.
Love this recipe. Easy to make and delicious with pasta or salad.
this is delicious!! It’s now on our list of favorites.
Delicious! Favorite chicken parm recipe.
This is the only Chicken Parmesan I make, it’s so easy and delicious!
I’m getting an air fryer for Christmas and I can’t wait to use it to make this recipe
I’ve made this delicious recipe for my husband – and we truly devoured it. I just moved into a new home and I’m having family over (7 adults). Could I possibly make the “fried” cutlets in the air fryer ahead of time – and then kinda re-warm them and then top with sauce/cheese? The thing I loved was how juicy and crispy they were – just wondered if could possibly still make that work? Just trying to minimize time with everyone in the kitchen standing around watching my every move? 🙂 A million thanks!
Sure!
This was a very easy and delicious recipe!
Is cook time and temp the same for a toaster oven style air fryer? This sounds so yummy!
I have the Cuisinart air fryer toaster oven (LOVE IT!) and while I haven’t yet made this recipe- I’m prepping now and cooking it tomorrow- I do know that I have to lower the baking temp by 50 degrees. Not quite sure with air frying, though. I’d recommend a Smart Meat Thermometer. It’s worth every penny when you consider it saves dinner from getting burnt! I recently bought one and love that I can be away from the kitchen and the device will alert me when my food has reached a preset temperature 😁
Not sure if it was just me, but the breading didn’t really stick. I think I’ll use an egg next time!
One of our favorites! Easy and delicious. We pair with noodles and zoodles for a healthy weeknight meal. So yummy!
This is the first recipe I made this using my new Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid, which can be intimidating at first. The recipe was easy to follow, really quick and very delicious.
Perfect!!
Yum! I added some seasoning to the Panko/parm (Italian blend and cayenne), paired it with a basil tomato sauce that I had in the cupboard and the result was absolutely delicious. Thanks for another fab recipe!
Oops should also mention I flipped, cooked for 3 mins before the sauce/cheese was added.
So delicious and easy!! My boyfriend loved it as well.
Made this tonight and we really enjoyed it. I wouldn’t hesitate to serve this to company. Thank you for posting this easy and delicious recipe.
My air fryer needed a hotter setting so when I put the marinara and cheese on, and cooked it, I had to cook it a bit longer and the cheese burned a bit. Lesson learned. But good easy recipe overall
Long time fan of skinnytaste but my first time commenting and this recipe most certainly warrants it. It was so easy and so delicious. I admit i cheated and used chicken tenders instead of slicing the chicken breasts but nevertheless the flavor and tenderness was excellent. Another great recipe and will most certainly be on our weekly rotation!
Thanks Isabel!
I make your oven baked chicken Parmesan recipe weekly as our family loves it. I just got an air fryer so decided to do that recipe tonight. I put the first batch on a plate with tented foil to keep it warm while I cooked the second batch and the first batch got a little soggy on the bottom. Next time I will keep it warm on a sheet pan in a low oven to avoid that problem. But, it was still delicious and I will continue making it for sure!
Made these for dinner tonight. It was wonderful! I am going to keep this recipe in my rotation. Thank you.
Turned out really good. Easy peasy.
Hi, this looks amazing and I plan to make this tomorrow. I also thought the salad was a great accompaniment and was curious as to what ingredients and dressing were used? It looks like lettuce nicely cut with cucumber, and maybe an olive oil dressing? Any clarifications would be great, thanks so much and thank you for the great idea! 🙂
We loved it!!
These came out perfect! A lot easier than the oven chicken parmesan recipe I usually use, and a lot faster! I followed the recipe exactly and actually found thin cuts of chicken breast at the store. We will be making these again!
I have always wanted to make this and have it turn out like Pasta House dish. This is even better! So easy and delicious! FYI- I had to cook one piece a little longer due to it being a little thicker than the other pieces. Definitely will make this dish often.
Omg!!! Soo good and pretty easy dinner!! My husband even loved it! Followed exact steps and turned out great!
Made this for my friend and I the other night and it was lovely! Can’t wait for hubby to get back from his annual deer hunt to treat him to it as well! Great recipe, thoroughly enjoyed in PEI, Canada 🇨🇦
My chicken was undercooked initially so I cooked it an additional 6 min as the other reviewers suggested before adding the sauce and cheese. Also I felt it was lacking in flavor and perhaps adding garlic powder, salt , and Italian seasoning would punch it up a notch. Using the air fryer was much easier than the stovetop and the chicken came out very tender and moist.
I have the ninja for the record. I think next time I will cut the chicken thinner and also increase temp to 390, following same general time.
Amazing!! So easy and so tender and flavorful! Great recipe!!
I made this for dinner tonight and my husband and I really liked it. Previously I had also made the Baked Chicken Parmesan in the oven and they are very similar. I served it with spaghetti with Gina’s quick Marinara Sauce. Keeper for sure!!
This is amazing. Still cant believe how easy and delicious this is.
Okay, I love this recipe but the only thing I can think of is perhaps it should have read 6 minutes, flip over, cook another 6 minutes, then add sauce and cheese and cook for 3 more. At least that’s what I did after the first batch came out completely undercooked. Second batch using this method was perfect
I agree with you
Totally agree. My chicken came out undercooked and had to contihue to cook but the sauce and cheese burned.
This was a good recipe, however, I did have to add time to the chicken. I have a new NuWave air fryer that I just purchased so I know it’s not my air fryer. I added two minutes before adding the sauce (8 minutes total) and added three more minutes (6 minutes total) after the sauce. I used thinly cut chicken tenders from Sprouts.
Christina, I just rec’d. my NuWave and am going to make this chicken tomorrow. Did you use the probe or chicken preset first? I’m feeling a bit intimidated with all the functions these air fryer has.
This was so good! Usually I am a critic of my own cooking, but this time I agreed with my husband that this is restaurant quality. Not to mention, it came together very quickly. I used your quick marinara sauce and had mine with about an ounce of whole wheat pasta and an arugula salad with tomato and cucumber. I can see us eating this frequently!
My kids and husband loved it!
What could be better! No oil, so no frying, no egg, didn’t need it, this was delicious. I have an XL air fryer, had it for two years, am making so many different things in it I never thought of! It’s my new toaster. Got rid of the other one. I do love my kitchen toys! 🇨🇦
Gina is this in any of your cookbooks? I looked through the Airfryer book and didn’t see this one
Thanks for the recipe.
No, just online. 🙂
Air frying took way longer and I had to scrape off the cheese and add a second round of it before putting it back in.
Tip: Use a food thermometer and put the cheese on when it’s around 10 degrees from being done. Otherwise cheese may burn.
My old air fryer (which was smaller) cooked right in the time, but my newer bigger one took more time. I think it depends on the size and style.
Just made this for my family, including 3 grandkids, age 5, 7, and 8+. It was a big hit! accompanied it with the pasta noodles and steamed broccoli. two oldest kids had seconds.
Just made this recipe. It was fabulous.
I made these and they were amazing but I did have a little trouble getting the whole cutlets crisp enough. The edges browned beautifully but not the middle. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. I do have a different air fryer so not sure if that’s why. Should I crank the temp higher?
Quick, easy and delicious. I had to cook for a few minutes longer. This one is a keeper! Thanks so much
I tried this for my first air fryer recipe ever and oh my gosh it’s soooo easy and so good! I made my own marinara for it and it was all delicious! (Usually I’m really bad at cooking lol)
So glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Gena, why is the WW points higher on the purple than the blue, shouldn’t it be the same on this particular recipe?
I will check there must be a mistake.
I made this tonight for 2 picky eaters! They scarfed it down…. next time I’ll cut the chicken breasts in half … and make 2 batches. I like how simple and quick this is.
We loved this, it is an outstanding recipe!
Love this it is so good and easy to make
Has anyone tried making eggplant parmesan with this recipe or in the airfryer?
Overall, good recipe. I needed to cook the chicken a few minutes longer. I also used an egg dip instead of butter or oil just to make it more traditional (but probably less healthy).. That may be why it took longer to cook. It turned out really well though with a much lighter feel than pan frying. Would make again.
Absolutely fantastic! My husband and I and our teenagers loved this chicken! Will definitely make again!
Because I had a hard time finding bread crumbs without lactose, I used whole wheat cracker crumbs.
Amazing!!!
Hi – question for you: I have a Ninja Foodi (with Air Fryer function) but don’t want to make dinner in batches. Have you tried “air-frying” this on the convection setting in a full-size oven? If so, any tips on temp & time? Also would it make sense to use a roasting rack so the air can circulate better?
Thanks!
I have made this in the oven and am eager to try it in the air fryer. I was wondering what makes the purple points higher than the blue points? Thank you!
Followed the Air Fryer instructions closely .I’m not a good “cook”, so some recipes I skip because they look complicated or there are words I’ve never heard…. Made these last night. Outstanding and easy! Going to become a weekly staple of dinners now!
I made this for my daughter as I generally don’t care for chicken parm and she requested it. Had to up the temp to 400 to get it brown and crispy but my pieces may have been bigger than what the recipe calls for. Served with angel hair. Of course I still had a serving and it’s the easiest, simplest recipe to use and the best I ever had! May even make again for myself next time.
Glad you enjoyed it too!
So good!! I made these for two days worth of meal prep. Love it so much.
This turned out good, though I had to cook it longer than stated, using the Skinnytaste air fryer. The family approved. We will definitely make this again.
So dissapointed. Cooked this many times in oven and it’s great. Tried in air fryer (that I’ve used countless times with chicken in the past) and this chicken is not cooking through thoroughly. Even amped up the temp and cook time to 12 minutes!! And it still came out basically raw inside. Don’t use this recipe in air fryer and use in oven.
Something sounds very wrong with your air fryer!
I’ve made this recipe a number of times in my air fryer. It’s usually a hit with the kids, and it’s pretty quick and easy. The hardest part for family of 5 is that I have to do multiple batches…but I cooks up quick enough. I also learned that chicken breast thickness is key here. I’ve tried pounding small breast, slicing breasts, and this last time I think I got it right: sliced the larger breasts AND pounded any thicker areas to make all peices more uniform in size. I prefer the outside to be a bit crispy, so I add a little time: 360 for 6 minutes, flip, 5 minutes, add sauce and cheese (I like using half a piece (1SP) of sliced sargento), then I put up to 380 for 2 minutes to melt the cheese.
I just did this recipe in my air fryer as directed and it came out perfect!
I agree!! I just tried this recipe and followed the directions and the chicken was raw. First I thought it was the thickness of the chicken but even the smaller chicken breasts didn’t cook all the way thru. Very disappointed. It was a waste of food since it all started to fall apart from removing it and putting it back in the air fryer multiple times. I looked up how long chicken breast should be cooked in an air fryer on another website and it said 22 minutes!!
If I cooked chicken breast in my air fryer for 22 minutes, it would be shoe leather. It sounds like your air fryer doesn’t run as hot as most, the watts must be lower or maybe it’s an old model. In any case, if you used most newer models like the Skinnytaste by Vremi, Cuisinart, etc this cook time would be accurate. Since yours takes longer, sounds like you have to add more time to all my air fryer recipes.
Love this recipe! It turned out delicious and my family loved it.
Your directions show 360 degrees and your video shows 350 degrees. Which is tight
Hi. I recently bought your one and done book and I luv it !! I am looking for the air fryer recipe for chicken caprese. I can’t find it on line and I would really luv to make it
It’s only in my Air Fryer cookbook!
Any tips on getting the cheese to melt? I used 3 different types of cheese, and each time it just got crispy instead of melting. Thanks!!
Absolutely delicious! My husband and 2yr old both devoured it!
Pictures don’t do this justice! It’s amazingly yummy and very simple to prepare. Definitely adding to the rotation! Thank you
Yummy! We love it!
Hello, what is your recommendation if the lowest temperature my air fryer will allow is 390? Thank you!!
Just use that
This was delicious! Only thing I did differently was instead of brushing a chicken with melted butter I just sprayed it with olive oil spray.
Love this!! Easy, quick and husband approved and appreciated
Made this recipe using turkey breast cutlets and shredded Asiago in place of parmigiana called for in the breading. I also salt and peppered both sides of my turkey. My husband had had a horrible day at work and was wrapped up in the management of that crisis the minute he walked thru the door. I served him this turkey parmigiana with an arugula salad from my garden with roasted new potatoes tossed with the salad. The tomato sauce was mine too, from last year’s garden. He loved it! I was so happy that after such a grueling day I was able to bring him something that he truly enjoyed. He keeps asking me to make it again.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I followed the recipe exactly and it came out perfect! So easy to prepare and so yummy! I will definitely be preparing this over and over. ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely amazing!!!! My chicken breasts were a little thick before halving them so I amped it up to 12 minutes and 3 minutes on 2nd part. I have one of the CooksEssential brand air fryer and I was thrilled with my first time cooking chicken in it.
To answer an earlier question, I just scooped then out with a heavy duty spatula (Turner).
Oh my yummy!!! Tweaked a bit by spraying the cutlets with olive oil and then shaking them in a bag with the crumbs and cheese. Came out awesome. Perfect dinner for two with a little left for lunch tomorrow.
I am a terrible cook, with inept kitchen skills. I love chicken parm, so tried the recipe. It was easy, even for me, and it was DELICIOUS!! Thanks so much for this awesome recipe. I will definitely be making this again.
I just made this tonight for my fiancé and I. He loved it. I was thanked like five times for this meal. I followed the recipe and it came out perfectly. Thank you!
I have one question about this quick, easy and delish meal — what is the best way to get it out of pan neatly? tongs work well for flipping but boy did I make a mess of this getting finished chix out of pan
Very easy and quick to make. Chicken was very tender and had a good flavor.
This recipe came out exACTLY as you described and pictured. Your cookbooks were my 3 favorite Christmas presents and got me on track for a great and healthy 2019!
Fabulous! This was my first successful dinner meal recipe in an air fryer, and it was enjoyed by every member of the family! So so delicious!!! Please keep posting more healthy recipes like this…..healthy food is inspiring even our son!
Very good and easy. Will definitely make again! Thanks for sharing!!
Made this for dinner and it was delish!!
I thought the same thing! Jeesh people. ????
Can I use any marinara sauce if I’m in a rush…I have a jar of spaghetti sauce in the fridge already…also when you said spray chicken with oil…do u mean like pam spray oil…thank you
Made this several times. Fantastic!!
This is so easy and delicious. I have always worried about chicken, which I love, as over cooked it becomes dry. This was crunchy on the outside but moist on the inside. Love the recipe and love my air fryer.
I just purchased my air fryer and decided to try your chicken parmigiana recipe. My husband says he’s never going back to Olive Garden!?
Do you do 6 mins each side?
I think it depends on the air fryer. I did 6 on one side and 4 on the other. I also kept it warm 2 minutes while I finished the rest of the sides.
My husband and I made this tonight! We really enjoyed the flavor. Next time I do plan on seasoning the chicken before the bread crumbs, but other than that, this is becoming a staple in our home.
It was a hit! So simple to prepare and pop into the AirFryer. I did no changes to the recipe other than adding a little bit more cheese 🙂
Not sure what I did wrong but the chicken is coming out wet and not crispy at all
Cara-try spraying the the chicken with oil right before you cook it. I’ve made that mistake before.
My husband really liked this, but like some others, I also had trouble with it not being cooked through. Not your fault — I suspect the problem is that I had thick chicken breasts, so when I sliced them through lengthwise, they were thicker than yours were. Maybe it would be worthwhile to guess how thick yours are, and put that number in so that people can know they should pound theirs down a bit if they’re thicker?
I find that using a meat thermometer in the kitchen helps tremendously. That way you can follow recipe times as a guide.
why can’t I copy and past I am creating a new recipe system I am putting all my recipes on 4×6 cards so I need to copy and paste…
Are you clicking the print button first? It should let you copy and paste from there.
Would it be more points conscious to use eggs instead of butter because eggs are now 0 points?
Thank you for your recipe. My husband is the pickest eater you will meet and this he enjoyed. I recently joined ww and this is a great recipe to keep me on track. This you for sharing. I used light butter and sauce that was only 2pts so I my have lesser pts than 4pts, but I will still use 4pts to be safe.
Delicious and so quick to make!!!
I have a Breville air fryer and put all 4 pieces in. Mine says to not use the basket with things that drip so I used a tray in the basket. My chicken was undercooked. Do you think it’s because of the tray or maybe my chicken was too thick?
Perhaps both? I would add more time for sure.
Comments are annoying and embarrassing. “It was way undercooked any suggestions?” Yeah, cook it longer.
I love you.
Easy and delicious. One of my husband’s favorite meals.
I just made this for dinner and it is GREAT!! The chicken is just right not under-cooked not over-cooked and the breadcrumbs are crispy and everything is just awesome!! Will DEFINITELY make this again!
My basket was small so it took about 30 minutes to make 6 pieces but boy oh boy am I glade I did!!
great!
hi gina, we didnt pre-heat our air fryer…they came out under cooked. is it 100% needed to pre-heat the air fryer?
Delicious!!
I will never, ever, EVER cook chicken parm the way I used to now that I’ve found this recipe. It is seriously so crisp and delicious and I think I used to drown mine in sauce and cheese – and it just doesn’t need it. The flavors are amazing; simple is better. We LOVE this recipe!!!
I just made these this evening! They were amazing! I used my Air Fryer and I pre-heated the unit as instructed. I used chicken tenderloins instead of breasts because that is what I had on hand! They were most and flavorfully. I served with zucchini pasta. Definitely making these again and again! I have loved every recipe I have made from Gina….thank you for creating such tasty and healthy recipes.
Making this for dinner tonight with some garlic bread and asparagus!!!!!! I love my air fryer and I’m so happy your putting out some tried and true recipes for it!!!!!!!! Thank you again!
The basket comes out drew. Also, I use my Misto and fill it olive oil.
Love it! Made crumbs out of pork rinds to cut out carbs. It was soooo good. Thanks
great!
Hi I followed instructions but my chicken was still a little pink. Any suggestions ?
I am not sure if all brands cook the same, or if your breasts were thicker. I would add a few more minutes.
Wow, what a delicious recipe! From smelling my house so deliciously to the fabulous taste, a WINNER!
My husband already requested it for next wee!
Is this recipe updated for the WW Freestyle plan?
Yes.
This recipe was absolutely delicious!! I just got my air fryer for Christmas and this is one of the first things I have tried. Not only was it easy but a recipe I am sure I will go back to many times. I served it to my husband and son and they both loved it. I had no left overs so now I need to find another Skinny taste recipe for dinner tonight.
Hi. Are the new flex points the 4 you show or the 6? Thank you.
My whole family gobbled it up – it was easy and soooo good!
I don’t know what the difference is between smart points and points plus. I just joined the new freestyle program. TIA
Go by the smart points, they have been updated to reflect the freestyle program.
This is the very first thing we made in our new air fryer and it turned out great. I cooked them for one minute longer than noted in the recipe and could have given it two minutes more after putting on the sauce and cheese. We will definitely make this again.
I wish there was a cooking demo video. Not sure how you halve the chicken breast; split to make it thinner or just cut across the middle?
Lengthwise to make it thinner.
I would amend your directions to make that clear. I cut mine the other way and they were still raw after cooking for 9 min
Yummy! Made tonight and we all enjoyed! I didn’t have seasoned bread crumbs so I added Italian seasoning, few shakes of garlic powder and one shake of onion salt. I had Olive Oil Pam and sprayed top of chicken with that. Will definitely be making this again and again!
Thanks Carol!
Loving all the recipes
Loving all the airfryer recipes thanks
I’m guessing you used chicken cutlets, but you didn’t say. Skinless or skin on? Looks great.
What air fryer would u recommended?
You say this is GF, what kind of bread crumbs do you use that are GF
I buy 4C gluten-free crumbs
Thank you! I love chicken parm, but my daughter is allergic to gluten so this is great! Thanks!
Made this tonight with my Airfryer XL. Yum! Thanks for the quick, easy, delicious recipe!
You’re welcome! 🙂
Hi Gina,
I love your site and have made so many of your delicious recipes. When you started talking about a air fryer I just had to get one. It arrived yesterday. We ordered the power air fryer oven, then one on the infomercials. I’m so excited to print your recipes and try them. This one comes with trays and a rotisserie turner. Your excitement for them was so contagious!! Thank you!!!
Great! Hope you enjoy the recipes!
I’m thinking about buying an airfryer. I notice a couple people mention about their nuwave. Does it matter what brand to buy or is nuwave the best option for airfryer?
I can’t wait to try this receipe!
Hi Gina, I made this for the second time tonight and I love the recipe except that my chicken has come out undercooked. I followed the recipe exactly. Do you think the breasts were too thick? Too cold when I put them in? Just curious for your thoughts. Thank you!
yes, did you cut them in half?
Can foil be used.? Also I use a lot of parchment paper for baking. Can this be used?
I go to the dollar tree and I buy Reynolds wrap foil sheets and I put it in the air fryer UNDER the basket it makes clean up so easy!! I think you can find these at other dollar stores and they only cost one dollar!well worth it
Sams’s warehouse sells a honey and garlic rub. Did drumsticks with it. No oil. They came out with a crunchy outer skin and very succulent. I bet your parmasain recipe would come out fantastic with this rub mixed into some gluten free Italian breadcrumbs available at my local grocery. Make up some Texas toast for chicken parm sandwiches.
Is there a reason this is brushed with butter instead of dipped in egg? I would rather use egg, but this is the first time I’ll be using the air fryer so I don’t want to deviate if the butter is used for a specifc reason. Thanks
Hi!
How can I figure out the Points Plus value?
My husband made this tonight and followed the directions to the tee. When I bit into my piece, the chicken was grossly undercooked. I then checked the internal temp with an instant food thermometer and the temp was only 118 degrees. Chicken needs to be 165. Quite a food safety hazard. I would recommend checking the internal temp of the chicken and I would suggest you add that to the written recipe. When fully cooked it was delicious.
That should be a given to always check IT when cooking anything. Shouldn’t be required to be in a recipes directions.
I agree Mike. I don’t have to be told to check my meat…I just check it!
I love this recipe, delicious!! It’s just hard to convert all ingredients to European grams etc, but it’s definately worth the time!
This looks Ah-mazing! This is my favorite dish and this inspired me to buy an air fryer! Thank you!!! Can’t wait to try it!
Can you make a recipe for fish?
What type of air fryer?
It came out perfect…. very simple recipe and it looked and tasted very good!
Can I put foil in the fryer basket? Will chicken still be crispy?
I USE PERFORATED PARCHMENT CIRCULAR LINERS ORIGINALLY MEANT FOR BAMBOO STEAMER BASKETS. THESE CAN BE FOUND READILY ON AMAZON.
AFTER PREHEATING THE AIR FRYER, INSERT LINER AND FOOD. CLEANING OF THE BASKET IS ALSO EASIER WITH THEIR USE.
Wow! This looks great and I like the sound of dinner cooked in less than 20 minutes!
This was beyond Good, I made it with pesto and my kids were saying please make that again. Very good. I love that the air fryer made it crispy and I didn’t have to cook in the oven for 45 minutes. 10 minutes tops
Great!
I make the Costco salmon patties in mine all the time, but would love to see one of your delicious recipes for it. Also, next up will be your cauliflower fritters, lightly sprayed with olive oil! Thanks for trying this stuff out for us!
Which air fryer do you have? Thanks
NuWave 36001 Brio Air Fryer.
Tried the pink chops last night. They were pretty thick so it took a little more cooking time. They were tender snd delicious! Trying the chicken parm tonight.
Glad to hear it!
Would a convection toaster oven work the same as air fryer?
That’s a great question, I guess if you have a mesh or wire rack the answer should be yes! Which brand do you have?
Oster brand. I was planning the oven recipe and then I saw your new post today. Really don’t want another lg appliance. Thanks, Kris
Gina. . Update. Made it for lunch in the convection oven and it was great!! Followed recipe to the letter. Thanks once again.
Looking for a 6 qt. air fryer. Which one do you recommend? Thanks!!
Connie
What brand is your 3 quart?
Nuwave
I’m new to air fryers, is there any difference in the nutritional value vs. baking? Love your baked chicken parm so I might go get an air fryer just for this! 🙂
What is the sat fat in this recipe? To correctly calculate the Smart Points the saturated fat grams are necessary. You do not show 0 g for sat fat (as you do in some other recipes) but there are several types of cheese & oil in the recipe. It looks like it was missed. If there is indeed 0 g sat fat per serving, it would be helpful if you showed 0 g sat fat. As it is now, I need to put the whole recipe through WW Recipe Builder to verify the Smart Points value.
The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website which is how I calculate everything. The SmartPoints® calculator isn’t meant for recipes and will often give you the wrong points (usually higher) because it’s counting the fruits and vegetables. So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, that is why.
Sat fats are good despite years of anti fat propaganda
Just want to say I enjoy all of your recipes. Keep posting Air Fryer recipes.
What brand of Air Fryer do you have? So many on the market no.
Nuwave Air Fryer
I LOVE that you’re posting healthy air fryer recipes!! Keep up the good work!!
Gotta try this one! Also.. under Directions, step one, you have “basked” instead of “basket”. 🙂
Hi Gina! I’m curious about your side salad. It looks like romaine and cucumbers — do you put any dressing on it or toss it with anything else? Can’t wait to try the Chicken Parmesan, thanks for posting!
You can toss with a good quality olive oil and vinegar, or you can use https://www.skinnytaste.com/skinny-cucumber-ranch-dressing/. 🙂
I have the copper 11×13 pan that can be used in the oven! Works great -wondering what I would need to do to make this??
Follow this recipe https://www.skinnytaste.com/baked-chicken-parmesan/
Gina, the makers of these air dryers do not recommend spraying the basket…it surface. Any other suggestions? I have your chicken parm on my planner for the week…and I have an air fryer! Gonna try this!
My basket is less basket and more “surface with holes” and it’s non-stick. But things still stick to it, especially breaded things like this chicken. I have found that spraying the basket surface leads to less sticking and crisper items too. I’m just sure to clean it really well afterward!
I have read that spraying it with pure oil (and Pam now makes one that’s pure olive oil!) is better. Eventually the propellants will permanently stain the basket.
If I dont have an air fryer, would an oven work? If so, what temperature and how long would I bake it for? Thanks 🙂

By the way, I do it in the oven all the time. This is a family favorite at our house. Almost never leftovers even when I double the batch.
What air fryer do you have? We have the air fryer selection on our toater over…..would that work? thank you
I absolutely want an air fryer! This just made me want one even more. This looks delicious!
Oh my this looks delicious, cant wait to try it! I love my air fryer but hate how small it is! I also have the NuWave. Looking forward to more recipes using it! ;))
great!
LOVE my air fryer and had already planned on making chicken parm in it tonight! It works really well, but you’re right, the only downside is the size of the basket. My son’s favorite dish is chicken parm and he doesn’t even notice that it’s not traditionally “fried” the way I used to make it.
Yes! I just upgraded to the 6 quart. Hopefully 4 pieces will fit!
I can usually only squeeze 3 in my 6 quart Nuwave. But it’s still so much bigger than the smaller version.
Which version of the nuwave 6 ct did you get
Just ordered an air fryer this morning. I had vowed no more kitchen appliances but couldn’t I resist. I’m trying your pork chops this week and this will definitely be going on the menu!
